| Posted: 24 Dec 2012 12:48 AM PST  Sam Talbot's White Chili Sam Talbot's White Chili Serves: 8 Prep time: 10 minutes Total time: 1 hour Ingredients 2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil 1 large white onion, chopped 1 medium fennel bulb, chopped 3 garlic cloves, minced 1 to 2 serrano chiles or jalapeno peppers, seeded and chopped 1 tablespoon kosher salt 2 1/2 teaspoons ground cumin 2 teaspoons fennel seeds 1 1/2 teaspoons dried Mexican oregano 3/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper 2 pounds ground white-meat turkey 4 cups low-sodium chicken broth 2 cans (15.5 ounces each) cannellini beans, drained and rinsed 3 tablespoons corn meal 3/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro 2 tablespoons fresh lime juice, plus lime wedges for serving crumbled cotija cheese, for serving low-fat sour cream, for serving chopped scallion, for serving In a large pot or Dutch oven, heat oil over medium-high. Add onion, fennel, garlic, and chiles and cook until the onions are soft, about 8 minutes. Add salt, cumin, fennel seeds, oregano, and cayenne, and cook until fragrant, about 2 minutes. Add turkey and cook, breaking up meat with a wooden spoon, until cooked through, about 5 minutes. Add broth and 2 cups of water. Bring to a boil, partially cover, and reduce heat to a simmer; cook until chili is thickened slightly, about 25 minutes. Stir in beans and cornmeal and cook 20 minutes more. Toss the cereal and almonds together and set aside. In a large saucepan or pot, heat the oil over medium. Add the onion and cook until softened, about 4 minutes. Stir in potato starch and cook, stirring, 1 minute. Slowly whisk in milk and cook, whisking constantly, until thickened. Filed under: Hybrid, Transportation Alternatives While Autoblog occasionally offers readers a look at the eBay find of the day, we found one that might qualify as someone's find of the year - or an indulgent Christmas present. May we present the Hybrid Electric High Mobility Scout Mongrel Vehicle w/ Active Suspension. As of press time, the highest bid was $2,000 for a vehicle that supposedly has more than $750,000 in it, money that was spent on the engineering, design, parts and construction of this prototype four-wheel drive series hybrid. Visiting a federal government website indicates that the amount spent was actually $747,913 for a 1998 federal grant awarded by the US Department of Defense to Davis Technologies International, Inc., based in Addison, TX. The goal of the project was to develop a significantly improved ground vehicle for military reconnaissance that can move fast over rough terrain, with high mobility being a primary factor. The "Mongrel" has independent swing arm suspension at all four corners of the vehicle, designed for traversing large obstacles with a powerful drive system. Propulsion comes from four 100-kilowatt, liquid-cooled, axial gap permanent magnet motors capable of delivering up to 134 horsepower per motor, for a total of 536 hp. As for an onboard internal combustion engine, the Mongrel uses a 1.9-liter turbo diesel Volkswagen engine as a generator. While the deal is potentially great for such an expensive vehicle, there is work to be done by the new owner. The wheel assemblies are complete, but as a whole, the vehicle is not complete enough to operate as intended. Inverters need to be installed for the motors, as does a controller for the suspension, and a few other details need to be worked out. The seller is recommending that buyers make an appointment to come and view the Mongrel prior to bidding. That would mean traveling to Virginia Beach, VA, to view the vehicle - the auction ends early on December 27 - but the seller is happy to answer any questions to make you confident about your purchase. One more thing, despite what the eBay listing says, this is not a model year 1900 vehicle. The vehicle has never been titled and therefore didn't have a vehicle identification number (VIN) assigned to it. Entering 1900 as a date was done to bypass eBay's requirement to enter a VIN. Dollar for dollar, it could be the deal of the year. Pues bien, ya te dijimos que la berlina GQ3 no estará sola en el stand de Ginebra. La firma ha decidido mostrar el primer teaser del crossover que se unirá a la gama a finales del año 2014 o primeros del 2015. De momento en formato conceptual, será de tamaño compacto, diseño agresivo y muy llamativo. El factor estética cobrará mucha importancia, algo que junto con la seguridad (esperan lograr las cinco estrellas Euro Ncap en todos sus productos) y el precio contenido, tendrían que ser suficientes reclamos para hacerse un hueco en el mercado. Hablar de motores, equipamiento y otros detalles no tiene sentido en un producto que no estará listo hasta dentro de dos años, pero si tenemos claro que Chery está invirtiendo enormes cantidades de dinero para no errar en la conquista europea. At the time, Audi R&D chief Wolfgang Dürheimer was telling Auto Express that it could be a big seller if it were a diesel hybrid, and that not only would it sell well but it would be a match for coming vehicular royalty like the McLaren P1, Ferrari F70 and Porsche 918. Auto Express speculated carbon fiber construction and numbers like 700 horsepower, 737 pound-feet of torque and a top speed beyond 200 miles per hour. About a week ago that was updated by a report that the supercar would be unlike the R8 and, naturally, be state-of-the-art in the technology department. Now Automobile has chimed in with a deep-dive report on the supercar that has the project name of R20. To demonstrate its connection to Audi's Le Mans cars and distance itself from the R8, the report claims it will look like "a street-legal LeMans racer," meaning vertical LED headlights, "ventilated front and rear wings," the one out back being adjustable, and a tailfin running from the cockpit to the rear end. Power would come from a diesel-hybrid setup built around Audi's twin-turbo V6, with 550 hp from the engine and a further two 75-hp electric motors turning the front wheels. If accurate, that should see 123,000 additional cars, trucks and vans produced in North America, swelling the total number of units produced both by domestic and foreign manufacturers to 16.9 million light vehicles from a projected 15.6 million in 2013. Much of the increase can be attributed to the fact that Toyota intends to produce another car at its Blue Springs, MS plant as well as a new Lexus model at its Georgetown, KY facility in a year's time. Likewise, Volkswagen intends to move production of a currently imported model to its plant in Puebla, Mexico. Daimler, Honda, Nissan and Mazda also plan to build additional models on North American soil for the first time. Around two-thirds of the new North American manufacturing will take place in Mexico, helping the country soak up a full 20 percent of the content's automotive production for the first time. Pay special attention to the mini Marty and Doc Brown figures, which include costumes from all three movies, a skateboard, hoverboard and life preserver red vest. The BTTF kit, originally submitted at the Lego Cuusoo user-submitted design site, passed through a lengthy review process by Lego before being approved for production. Ford says that its off-road performance truck has performed just as well on the shelves of stores as it does on real-world trails with the truck being used as the inspiration for everything from kids toys to video games. For proof of this, we have to look no further than the Raptor Power Wheels from Fisher-Price or the Traxxas Raptor remote-controlled truck. The Raptor has even started showing up in video games like Need for Speed: Most Wanted, and Ford says that it is one of the most popular downloads in Forza Motorsport 4. This isn't just an American phenomena either. Hay que destacar que durante noviembre el pequeño Renault Twizy consiguió de nuevo colocarse en el primer lugar, posición que perdió un mes antes pero que mantiene en el acumulado del año. En cuanto a los híbridos, Toyota es la gran destacada gracias a una amplia oferta que abarca desde pequeños utilitarios como el Yaris hasta el interesante Prius+ con siete plazas y formato familiar. Lexus por su parte tiene en el CT200h su modelo de mayor éxito mientras que PSA sigue escalando posiciones con la tecnología Hybrid4.
