Video: Learn how to ride a motorcycle on water
Filed under: Motorsports, Videos, Motorcycle Yes, you read that title correctly. Ivan Cervantes knows a thing or two about pushing the envelope on an enduro bike. The guy has claimed the world Enduro championship title a total of five times, but decided to take on something a little more unorthodox during a recent practice session. Cervantes came upon a small pond five feet deep and 141 feet across and decided he was going to attempt to ride his bike across the surface of the water. Needless to say, there was a pretty steep learning curve attached to the feat. His first three attempts ended with the bike on the bottom and a face full of water, even while hitting the surface at around 56 miles per hour. As it turns out, speed wasn't so much the issue as the water surface itself. Cervantes waited for the waves to settle and hit the throttle one last time. The bike powered across the entire surface of the pond and touched ground safely on the other side. Report: Nissan Leaf: 42,700 sales and counting

That's what Plug In Cars reports, citing Nissan Chief Operating Officer Toshiyuki Shiga, who also said that Japan accounts for 19,000 of all those Leafs. The Japanese automaker is looking to boost Leaf sales and, late last month, unveiled its first global ad campaign. Nissan pitched features such as being able to use the car as a back-up power supply for homes in addition to the no-pollution, no-gas angle. US Leaf sales, lagging for much of this year, perked up recently. The first three are in their infancy, the Contour recently upgraded to next-gen status and the big-daddy Hero3 about to ship as a third generation, specs-busting model. Also just refreshed is the $400 Drift HD Ghost, bettering the previous version by the addition of a new seven-element lens covered by Gorilla Glass 2 and built-in Wi-Fi that, with a coming DriftMobile app, lets you control the camera with your phone. Its two-way remote - that works from 30 feet away - has an LED that lets you know when the camera is recording, the illumination color-coded to indicate the mode: video, photo, time-lapse or photo burst. There's also a feature called Flashback, which captures footage to memory in five-minute chunks; if you hadn't hit record but want something the camera caught in the last five minutes, you can save the footage. It also has a built-in two-inch LCD screen and is waterproof to nine feet. The Ghost will do 1080p, 960p, 720p and WVGA, the 1080p frame rates in either 25 or 30 fps, 720p going up to 60 fps. But specs without footage don't mean much, so you'll find some video samples below. Video: Ken Block won't let a little in-cabin fire slow him down

Well if you are the master of Gymkhana, Ken Block, it's never that simple. The drift-happy racer was competing at a Global RallyCross event at SEMA when things got a little hazy in the cockpit of the heavily modified Ford Fiesta rally car. Block was in the lead, and as one might do when leading a race, he ignored the smoke billowing from beneath the shifter. Three laps into the race, and the smoke persisted, but hey there was driving to be done! Finally, flames erupted, but Block was still not phased. This from the Hoonigan YouTube page:"After qualifying first, winning each of his heats and leading the first 5 laps at Global Rally Cross SEMA, Ken Block was forced to DNF due to a FIRE in his cockpit. But before retiring Block drove the piss out of his Ford Fiesta HFHV despite the smoke, and flames. Why you ask... Cause, like any good Hoonigan, dude AIN'T CARE!!!" Our takeaway from this mishap is that Block remains unsettlingly cool, and only after stuff starts melting and falling over does it appear that Block becomes alarmed at all. They say racers need ice water pumping through their veins, but that doesn't make you fireproof, so we're glad Block is alright. Report: Land Rover to offer 16 models by 2020

According to a report from Autocar, the brand associated with both opulent motoring and rugged off-road capability is embarking on a massive lineup expansion, with the goal of producing 600,000 vehicles annually and 22 million vehicles by 2020. In order to accomplish this, a flurry of new modes are planned, including the expansion of the Freelander (LR2) lineup and the unveiling of a new Defender family. The former will include five-seat and seven seat models, while the Defender will also roll out five-seat and seven-seat editions, but also a crew-cab pickup model. Consider our interest piqued. The Evoque family will also grow, including an Evoque XL, Evoque convertible, and a "baby Range Rover" that would slot underneath the Range Rover Sport. This amonts to a goal of expanding the Land Rover lineup to 16 new vehicles.Jaguar/Land Rover CEO Ralf Speth has claimed "40 new JLR product launches in the next five years," according to the report. To accomplish this, JLR is throwing 2 billion pounds a year behind this expansion. Roughly 1.8 billion pounds will go to a new Chinese production facility capable of producing 130,000 vehicles per year. The strategic location of the plant can feed the Chinese and Russian markets, which have voiced a demand for more specialized, limited edition models. This all may seem ambitious, and perhaps even present an overlapping of models. Study: New UK study suggests women better drivers than men

A new study released recently by Carrentals UK, suggest that women are superior drivers after interviewing more than 700 people. "While men would like to believe they are better than women behind the steering wheel, it is clear to see that male drivers performed worse in terms of speeding fines and penalty points," said Gareth Robinson, Managing Director of Carrentals UK. Indeed. Survey results included: 57 percent of men had been involved in one or more accidents compared to 44 percent of women 45 percent of 36- to 45-year-old and men over 65 years old had been caught speeding 60 percent of men over 65 had been involved in an accident, compared to 30 percent of women in the same age group. However, the survey also notes that while men may be statistically worse off than their female counterparts, they often think they're better drivers. Está claro que los contables de Nissan preferirían que el equipo se limitase a un restyling del coche cada tres o cuatro años, pero no. La filosofía de Kazutoshi Mizuno está más la labor de buscar constantemente las mejores prestaciones para el GT-R, y no sólo en términos de cronómetros, en absolutamente todos los aspectos (confort, seguridad, etc). El padre del GT-R viene dos veces al año con su equipo a Alemania para probar el coche y las soluciones que tienen pensado para él en el Nürburgring, en las carreteras segundarias y, por supuesto, en la Autobahn. Report: Suzuki has to take out $45M loan just to shutter US dealers

Suzuki Motor Corporation will loan American Suzuki the funds at three percent below the London Interbank offered rate in order to offer dealer owners a cash payment in exchange for voluntarily abandoning franchise agreements. The company's 216 dealers have 10 days to make a decision on the matter. Under the plan, Suzuki would give dealer owners half of what they're owed in one lump sum, and the dealers would then be able to pursue the remaining debt through the company's bankruptcy procedure. U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Scott C. Clarkson granted American Suzuki interim authority to borrow the funds, but Bloomberg reports the company will likely return to court in a few weeks to seek up to $100 million. Filed under: Sedan, Performance, Recalls, Safety, Jaguar, Luxury The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has announced a recall of 4,195 Jaguar XF models from the 2010 to 2012 model years due to potential fuel leak woes. In its statement, NHTSA says that the affected vehicles are those "equipped with a 5.0-liter gasoline engine" - all US-spec XF models have this V8 underhood - but a spokesperson from Jaguar North America confirmed to Autoblog that this recall does, in fact, apply to both naturally aspirated and supercharged models. According to NHTSA, "The affected vehicles may have a fuel tank fuel outlet flange that may crack." This means that fuel has the potential to leak onto the ground, and in the presence of an ignition source, catch fire. The official recall campaign will begin in early December, at which point Jaguar will notify its owners and dealers will replace the faulty fuel outlet flanges free of charge. Se vende un McLaren F1 por 4,38 millones de Euros

El McLaren F1 es uno de coches que está a dos dedos de convertirse en una especia de mito, al igual que el Ferrari 250 GTO. Es una máquina extremadamente rara (menos de ejemplares fabricados) y por tanto muy exclusiva. ¿Cómo de exclusiva? Tom Hartley Jr. entró hace poco en el libro Guiness de los récords al vender su McLaren F1 por 3,5 millones de Libras Esterlinas (aproximadamente unos 4.388.500 Euros) convirtiéndose así en el superdeportivo más caro de la Historia hasta la fecha. Se trata de un modelo de 1998 con modificaciones estéticas que los asemejan a un GTR. No es un GTR ni uno de carreras con palmarés a sus espaldas. Éstos suelen costar muchísimo más, si es que hay alguno en venta... Hartley es dueño de un compraventa especializado en coches de lujo. Asegura que lleva comprando y vendiendo coches desde que era adolescente, pues el negocio era de su padre, y de pequeño ya andaba preparándose para el relevo. Al parecer, Hartley compró el coche y lo vendió tan sólo dos semanas después por un sustancial beneficio. Report: A123, Wanxiang deal under scrutiny by Republican Senators

China's Wanxiang Group Corp. wants to acquire bankrupt A123, and has been locked in a battle with US-based Johnson Controls Inc. to buy A123. Wanxiang was granted permission to offer a loan to A123 by a federal bankruptcy judge. US Sens. John Thune of South Dakota (R) and Chuck Grassley of Iowa (R) think that if Wanxiang is allowed to buy A123, the Chinese company would have access to the company's military contracts and grid storage technologies. Along with lithium-ion battery systems for electric cars, A123 had two contracts worth more than $4 million to develop batteries for the Air Force, one of which is still in process. To acquire A123, Wanxiang needs approval from the Chinese government and from CFIUS, a US inter-agency panel that analyzes foreign investment deals for security concerns. A123, which was awarded a $249-million grant from the Obama administration, continues to be something of a political football. A123 has been granted permission from US Bankruptcy Judge Kevin Carey to borrow $50 million from Wanxiang. After the initial bankruptcy filing, JCI made a bid to buy A123 assets for $125 million, and Wanxiang stepped forward last week saying it wants to be the lead bidder at auction for the assets. Carey has been hearing testimony from objectors, including Fisker Automotive, which want to extend the bid deadline, auction date, and deadlines in the bidding procedures request, at least 30 days. Alemania: Volkswagen lanza el Eco-Up!

Bajo la denominación Eco-Up!, Volkswagen comienza la comercialización en los principales mercados europeos de la variante capaz de usar gasolina sin plomo y gas natural CNG indistintamente. Lo que desconocemos es su posible fecha de llegada a España. El VW Eco-Up! recurre a la motorización de un litro de 75 CV para la adaptación. Usando el gas la potencia se reduce hasta los 68 CV y desarrolla un par máximo de 90 Nm. La velocidad máxima, de 164 km/h, también es algo inferior a la del modelo convencional. El consumo medio es de 2,9 kg/100 de gas (79 g/km de CO2), una cifra muy contenida que permite realizar esos 100 km por algo menos de 3 € (al menos en Alemania). Para almacenar el nuevo combustible, hay dos tanques con una capacidad total de 72 litros. El de gasolina se reduce hasta quedarse en sólo 10 litros de capacidad. Official: Mugen tunes new Honda N-One kei car

Honda has pulled back the covers on the new Mugen body kit for the N-One. The bits include a revised front fascia with a unique grille and LED fog lamps as well as side sills and a restyled rear valance with dual, center-mounted exhaust outlets. The company's engineers have also cooked up three new wheel styles for the kei car and a sportier suspension, though the drivetrain remains untouched. Step indoors, and the N-One Mugen features color-matched door panels, a red start button and a boost gauge. The driver also gets treated to a set of brushed aluminum pedals.
