Filed under: Alfa Romeo, Ferrari, Volkswagen, Industria El grupo Volkswagen ha vendido bonos convertibles por valor de 2.500 millones de euros con el fin de aumentar su disponibilidad de liquidez tras comprar Porsche y Ducati. Se trata de bonos a 3 años con una rentabilidad del 5,5% anual. El precio mínimo de conversión ha sido fijado en 154,50 euros por bono y el máximo en 185,40 euros, anunciaba ayer Volkswagen. La ofensiva financiera para hacerse con el control de Porsche hizo que las reservas de Volkswagen pasasen de 21.000 millones de euros a 9.100 millones. La compra del 50,1% restante de Porsche en agosto supuso un desembolso adicional de 7.000 millones de euros en fondos y deuda privada, mientras que Ducati costó 700 millones de euros. Algunos analistas afirman que esta liquidez servirá para finalizar la compra del fabricante de camiones MAN, ya controlado por Volkswagen. Otros analistas, como Max Warburton, de Bernstein Resarch, van más allá y predicen una ofensiva para la compra de Alfa Romeo (otra vez...) e incluso de Ferrari. Si bien lo de Alfa Romeo podría tener cierto sentido, aunque Marchionne insiste en que no está en venta, vemos casi imposible que Fiat venda su gallina de los huevos de oro. We dug up nine commercials - sort of like a Time Life infomercial for an entire brand - and among the starring actors are the X-90 improving the 90s with the help of a Pez dispenser, the Peter Pan-ish Sidekick, Optimus Prime getting his pipes all smoked up over the 1987 Samurai and an XL7 that would have sold in the millions if its commercial were even half true. Speaking during the company's third quarter financial results conference call, CEO Elon Musk dropped a bit of news that has raised our curiosity to levels of unmitigated distraction. Said Mr. Musk whilst speaking of R&D efforts currently underway: There are a few other variants of the Model S that we'll come out with next year that I think are going to be pretty exciting, in addition to, of course, really getting into the Model X and starting the initial design work of the 3rd generation mass market vehicle. Sounds interesting, right? While we can only speculate as to whether these variations on the Model S theme might include changes as drastic as a drop top, we wouldn't be hugely surprised by the addition of all-wheel drive and, perhaps, a more energy-dense battery (100-kWh packs, anyone?). What is clear is that these future alterations will go beyond just the addition of more options, since those are also in the works. While speaking about the uptake of options in the current offering, Musk revealed that in response to customer demand, the automaker will make available additional features that could be ordered with the car, as well as others that could be installed retroactively. | Posted: 07 Nov 2012 05:00 PM PST  Official: Pics Aplenty: 2013 Range Rover in Morocco (with 1971 Range Rover) Filed under: SUV, Land Rover, Luxury, Off-Road The redesigned 2013 Land Rover Range Rover made its debut back at the Paris Motor Show, and while there were plenty of great shots showing the iconic SUV in action, Land Rover has released some additional images of the new model playing nicely in Morocco with the original Range Rover. Seeing the two models side by side shows just how far the Range Rover has come, but at the same time how closely related the designs still are. As a recap, the new Range Rover features extensive use of aluminum, helping to drop around 700 pounds of curb weight compared to the previous model. Upon introduction, it will be powered by a 5.0-liter V8 pumping out 375 horsepower paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission, but we expect a sportier supercharged model to show up eventually, too. We will never doubt the off-road capabilities of this SUV, but the new photos show just how much the new Range Rover can take including some impressive water fording depths. The 2013 Range Rover will have a starting MSRP of $83,500 (*including destination) when it goes on sale in the US by the end of the year. Using a homemade electrically-powered device to steal gas from other people's cars is a very bad idea. Mesa, Arizona police say Herbert C. Ridge was doing just that when his spark of innovation actually sparked and ignited the fuel being siphoned. According to reports, Ridge's shirt caught fire and he rolled in the street in an effort to extinguish the flames. Having no luck, Ridge, still on fire, raced back to his truck for a getaway attempt. Getting into a vehicle while on fire is not, by the way, a recommended method of extinguishing flames. Ridge discovered this the hard way and, as documented by surveillance camera video, leaped from his now-flaming truck and attempted to flee on foot. The truck also continued its escape attempt. A neighbor chased after and caught the badly-burned Ridge. The truck, after trying to hide in a nearby house's garage, exploded, damaging the structure and ultimately revealing its poorly-chosen hiding spot.AZFamily.com reports that Ridge is recovering from the burns at a local hospital and could face charges of theft, DUI, felony criminal damage and, not surprisingly, possession of dangerous drugs. What could Lexus have in mind for the nameplate? The car may be the production interpretation of the LF-CC concept we saw at the Paris Motor Show. Given the numerals in the name, there's a good chance the two-door coupe will feature the company's 3.5-liter V6 engine currently found under the hoods of models like the IS 350 and GS 350. Beyond that, details are as scarce as hen's teeth. As you may recall, Lexus also recently laid claim to "NX 200t" and "NX 300h." Those names are likely to be applied to a new family of crossovers powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine. We've reached out to Lexus for comment on the RC 350 trademark, but have yet to hear back. And according to a report in Auto Express, the next-generation RS should be one hot little number when it launches in 2014. Rather than simply turning the ST's 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four up to 11, Ford's European performance division - Team RS - will likely use a larger-displacement mill for development of the hotter-than-hot Focus. The most likely candidate is a new 2.3-liter EcoBoost engine - rumored to be shared with the 2015 Mustang - that will produce around 350 horsepower.Ford will likely offer the Focus RS with a six-speed manual transmission, but engineers have not ruled out the possibility of using a version of the company's PowerShift dual-clutch 'box. The main concern from Team RS is that using a DCT will add weight, though the engineers understand that the trend in this segment is to use dual-clutch gearboxes.Auto Express reports that the new Focus RS will retain its front-wheel-drive architecture, but Ford is already working on new technologies to reduce the sort of squirreliness that comes with sending that much power to a car's front wheels. An active limited-slip differential - an E-diff - would "really optimise traction in all situations," according to Team RS powertrain engineering manager Len Urwin. It's unclear whether or not the Focus RS will come to the US, despite the company's One Ford global product strategy. Officials in Arlington, VA, unanimously voted against green-lighting Electric Vehicle Taxicab founder Malik Khattak's efforts to go all-Nissan Leaf with his fleet because the officials are concerned over the EVs making the trip to Dulles Airport, Plug In Cars reports. With Dulles located 26 miles from central DC, officials worried about the prospect of Leafs not being able to make the trip without a recharge. Khattak, who'd planned for 50 Leafs and 56 charging stations in the area, said that the installation of a charging station at Dulles would solve that issue. EV advocates have pointed to taxi fleets as a great way to cut emissions because of their high mileage and fuel efficiency, though some have said that rapid recharges may decrease the life of a typical electric-vehicle battery. Actually, Desert Bus is an intentionally awful mini-game that was part of a never-released Sega CD game called Penn & Teller's Smoke and Mirrors. (We won't go into detail about Smoke and Mirrors here, but suffice it to say that it is one of the most interesting concepts for a video game that we've ever heard of, and is well worth the time it takes to read the full Wikipedia entry, here.) The goal of Desert Bus is decidedly simple and completely horrible: the player drives a bus from Tucson, Arizona to Las Vegas, Nevada, on road that is completely straight, in real time and at a maximum speed of 45 miles per hour. That endeavor takes eight hours of continuous play to accomplish since the game cannot be paused. And, though the road is perfectly straight, the bus is programed to pull ever so slightly to the right, meaning that the player must pay constant attention or crash the bus. Oh, and if you should crash the bus, you'll find yourself being towed back home, also in real time. Great game, right? Back in 2007, Canadian comedy troupe LoadingReadyRun thought that the duller-than-dirt game would make a perfect vehicle (heh) for raising money for the charity Child's Play. (Child's Play donates toys and games for use by sick kids in hospitals around the world.) The premise was simple: the more money that was donated for the kids, the longer the funny men would be forced to drive the bus. In that first year, Desert Bus for Hope raised some $22,805 for Child's Play, while last year the amount had skyrocketed to more than $376k. This year, the bus is going back on the road, with hopes for yet another record-breaking charity haul. A modified Triumph Speed Triple, the Bulldog features a number of aesthetic tweaks to set it apart from its more staid siblings. A new single headlamp now rides in place of the factory bug-eyed dual-lamp unit, and designers swapped out the stock wheels for a pair of flashy OZ Racing pieces. The stock pipes were also ditched in favor of the blacked-out examples you see above. With custom leather work both on the saddle and along the bike's body work, there's no mistaking this machine for a standard Speed Triple. While Vilner typically focuses its attention on four-wheeled transportation, the company has recently turned its eye toward bikes as well. As you may recall, the design house cranked out a wild version of the BMW F800R a few months ago, and, though it's not our cup of tea, the similarly sinister Bulldog fits right in line with the family aesthetic. Las ventas acumuladas en el mes de octubre ascienden a 347.532 coches. Las ventas globales en el mes de octubre de 2012 con respecto a octubre de 2011 han caído un 1,8% (con 34.843 unidades vendidas). En Estados Unidos, el mercado más importante para Volvo, las ventas cayeron un 2,7% con respecto a los 10 primeros meses de 2011 con 55.789 unidades vendidas. En China, el segundo mercado de Volvo, las ventas cayeron un 7,3% en el acumulado con 36.793 coches vendidos. Pero la peor parte se la lleva Europa con una bajada del 10,6% en el acumulado, con 188.389 coches vendidos. El mes de octubre por si sólo da esperanzas a Volvo, pues en Europa sus ventas crecieron un 3,8% con respecto a octubre de 2011 con 21.326 coches gracias a la introducción del nuevo V40 (6.228 unidades). According to Automotive News, Toyota, Chrysler, Nissan and Honda are set to scrap around 15,000 new vehicles ruined by the storm. Nissan alone accounts for about 40 percent of those, with 6,000 Nissan and Infiniti models deeded "un-saleable" due to damage. The company saw 56 dealerships shuttered due to the storm, but 51 of those have since reopened. Toyota, meanwhile, had some 4,000 vehicles at its Newark port facility, and of those, 3,000 may be scrapped. An additional 825 were dealer inventory when they were ruined. Honda and Acura dealers are reportedly sending 3,440 vehicles to the salvage yard. By comparison, Chrysler weathered the storm fairly well with 825 units destroyed, while Hyundai suffered only 400 lost units and Kia scrapped around 200. As you may recall, Fisker also suffered some losses, and Automotive News reports the manufacturer saw 320 Karma models damaged beyond repair. Ford and General Motors have yet to come up with estimates, and no automaker has commented on the full cost of replacing the vehicles. | Posted: 07 Nov 2012 01:07 PM PST  Report: 2014 Ford Mustang details leaked, bye-bye Boss 302 Filed under: Coupe, Performance, Ford It seems that Ford has let slip the official order guides for its 2014 Mustang lineup. The changes for the upcoming model year are fairly minimal, as the car was just recently refreshed for 2013, and is expected to get an entirely new model in 2015. Sadly, for us and anyone else that has had the pleasure of driving it, the biggest news here is that the Mustang Boss 302 will not be carried over for next year. This news runs according to Ford's stated plan of offering the track-terror for just two seasons, but it pains our enthusiast hearts, nevertheless. As for the rest of it: there are a couple of new colors (Oxford White and Ruby Red Metallic with Tinted Clearcoat) and three colors that will go away (the Boss 302's School Bus Yellow, High Performance White and Red Candy Metallic). A couple of new exterior appearance packages have been added to the options sheet, as well. French automaker Renault can celebrate a victory of sorts on UK soil after its Zoe all-electric car won the Royal Automobile Club's (RAC) Future Car Challenge, which also included hybrids, hydrogen-powered cars, diesel cars and other "green"-ish vehicles. Renault joined automakers such as Mercedes-Benz, General Motor's Vauxhall unit, BMW and Jaguar Land Rover on the 63-mile trip from Brighton to London and won the competition for using the least amount of energy among production cars. Other victors in various categories included the Vauxhall Ampera (the sister car of the Chevrolet Volt), the Mercedes-Benz E300 Hybrid and the Jaguar XJ_e. Renault debuted the production version of the Zoe at the Geneva Motor Show in March, saying at the time that the car would retail in the low $20,000 range after government incentives, but that's not including the electric batteries. Those lease for about $100 a month. The car has a single-charge range of about 130 miles. | Posted: 07 Nov 2012 01:07 PM PST  Toyota recalling 11,200 Scion iQ models over faulty passenger sensors Filed under: Budget, Recalls, Safety, Hatchback, ScionToyota has announced a voluntary recall of 11,200 Scion iQ models from the 2012 and 2013 model years. According to the manufacturer, the problem with these pint-sized hatchbacks concerns the front passenger Occupant Classification System (OCS) weight sensor cables. The OCS sensors in the front passenger seat control the operation of things like the airbags and seatbelt pre-tensioner. In these affected models, the cables for these sensors located in the seat track can become damaged as the passenger seat slides forward and backward. And if the cables are damaged, the airbags and seatbelt pre-tensioner may not function properly. No injuries or crashes have been reported in conjunction with this issue. Toyota says that owners will be notified by mail beginning in early December, at which point the vehicles will be repaired - free of charge - at dealerships. Daniel was not happy. The melting frost had turned the dirt/mold mixture on the Mustang's rear quarter panel into a sort of frog-sweat slime, and his right hand was now covered in the goo. He stopped pushing, looked at the contagion and glared. I'd decided my new life goal was to pass a 911 on the track with this car looking exactly as it does right now. "You need to wash this thing, Bowman." Asking a friend to ride four hours north in a standard-cab Ford F-250 to pick up a crappy car was one thing. Asking him to risk his life against a thin coat of psychomagnotheric goo was something else entirely. I had already made it clear I planned to preserve the, um, patina on the Mustang, mold and all. After all, you can't recreate the kind of personality this car has going on. With its surface rust, grime and general air of dereliction, the machine looks like it would be happier rotting in a field somewhere than tearing up a road course. Which is why I love it. By the time I talked Daniel into rolling the car onto the U-Haul trailer, I'd already decided my new life goal is to pass a 911 on the track with this car looking exactly as it does right now. Si hay una marca que no sabe lo que es que sus ventas caigan esa es Ferrari. Hasta el 30 de septiembre, Ferrari ha ganado 1.764 millones de euros, es decir 10% más que en el mismo de 2011. Las ventas de coches han subido 6%, con 5.267 unidades entregadas en los 9 primeros meses de 2012. Los Estados Unidos siguen siendo el primer mercado para la firma de Maranello con 1.354 coches vendidos, lo que representa el 26% de las ventas totales de Ferrari. En Europa, lideran las ventas Alemania, con 534 coches (+9%)y el Reino Unido, con 504 coches (+37%). China no se queda atrás (566 coches) ni Japón, con 214 coches. Oriente Medio, por supuesto, sigue siendo una zona importantísima para Ferrari con 274 coches entregados en la zona. Sin embargo, en Italia las ventas han bajado 49% con 238 coches vendidos. Y es una excepción debido, según Luca di Montezemolo, "no solo a la situación económica sino al clima hostil hacia los productos de lujo, los cuales han sido y siguen siendo una parte importante de los recursos del país". Al mismo tiempo, Luca di Montezemolo presentó el nuevo miembro del consejo de dirección de la marca, Eddy Cue. Procedente de Apple, fue uno de los principales artífices del iTunes Music Store, iBook Store y del App Store, así como del iCloud, entre otros. Está claro que Ferrari sigue apostando por la ventas de productos derivados y licencias (hasta preparan una serie de dibujos animados para Mondo TV, "The Drakers") en los que su tienda online ha experimentado un crecimiento del 32%. No cabe duda de que Eddy Cue se encargará de que esas ventas suban aún más...
