Curiosamente, nuestros vínculos y conocimientos llegan de un grupo de personas relacionadas todas con el viejo Elise, que, por circunstancias de la vida han acabado repartiéndose entre ambas compañías en un baile de puestos de trabajo cuando menos curioso. Como bien sabes, porque nos hemos encargado de contártelo a lo largo de los años, Tony Fernandes quiso en su día comprar Lotus a Proton, pero los malasios prefirieron apostar por Dany Bahar. El resultado final de esta aventura ya lo conocemos todos. American Suzuki Motor Corporation - the sole distributor of Suzuki automobiles in the United States - will realign its business to focus on motorcycles, ATVs and the marine market. What does this mean in simple terms? In short, new Suzuki cars and trucks will no longer be sold by Suzuki in the United States once current supplies run out. Period. Suzuki cites "low sales volumes, a limited number of models in its lineup, unfavorable foreign exchange rates, the high costs associated with growing and maintaining an automotive distribution system in the continental US and the disproportionally high and increasing costs associated with stringent state and federal regulatory requirements unique to the US market." Motorcycles, ATVs and watercraft will not be affected. Current owners of Suzuki cars, trucks and sport utility vehicles will have their warranties honored, and parts will reportedly be made available. Suzuki will continue to sell automobiles in other countries, naturally, including its home market of Japan. There had already been a lawsuit seeking class-action status filed in California well before the admission of inflated fuel economy claims was made. This latest suit was filed in Ohio on behalf of Molly Simons, a 2012 Kia Rio owner, and Rebecca Sanders and Jeffrey Millar, owners of a 2013 Hyundai Elantra. Both of these models were included in the 900,000 or so vehicles cited by the automakers as having incorrect mileage estimates. According to Automotive News, this lawsuit seeks, in addition to covering legal fees and unspecified damages, to allow owners of affected Hyundai and Kia models in Ohio to back out of their purchase or lease agreements. El lanzamiento comercial del compacto tendrá lugar entre los meses de diciembre y enero en los principales países del viejo continente. La oferta inicial del nuevo Auris estará formada por una única carrocería de cinco puertas, si bien a mediados de año se sumará el Touring Sports, más versátil y capaz. Toyota ha invertido 185 millones de libras en adecuar las instalaciones al nuevo modelo, además de contratar a 800 nuevos empleados. Toyota tiene grandes esperanzas en el nuevo Auris, si bien no han comunicado una cifra estimada de ventas ante la inestabilidad económica por la que esta pasando la Unión Europea. Team owner and driver Todd Kelly took the machine around Calder Park despite the fact that he's currently recovering from shoulder reconstruction surgery. Kelly said the car feels good, but there's still plenty of work to do between now and next March when the sedan will see its official race debut. Though this is the first of the Altima racers to put tire to tarmac, Kelly racing is working on an additional three cars for competition. Those should be completed by the end of the year if everything goes as planned. As you may recall, the V8 Supercars Altima benefits from a reworked Nissan VK56DE 5.6-liter V8 engine. All told, Nissan has sunk around $1.56 million into the new V8 Supercars program to become the first brand other than Ford or Holden to compete in the series in nearly 20 years. Actually, no. Last week, Hyundai and Kia announced that they had each made errors in the way they tested the fuel economy of their new vehicles. "Honest mistakes" and "human error" were made during their in-house process for determining fuel economy figures that overestimated the rate at which vehicles like the Veloster and Elantra burn fuel. While most models were off by one or two MPGs, highway numbers for the Kia Soul were revised down by six MPGs in one instance. At this point, you might be saying, wait, automakers get to test their own vehicles? Doesn't the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) do that? Actually, no. Most new cars and trucks in the US never see the inside of the EPA's National Vehicles and Fuel Emissions Laboratory in Ann Arbor, MI. Instead, they are tested by the manufacturers themselves, which often use pre-production prototypes in "a standardized test procedure specified by federal law," and then report those numbers to the EPA. Only 10-to-15 percent of all new models, or about 150 to 200 vehicles per year, are re-tested by the EPA to verify the automakers' numbers. | Posted: 05 Nov 2012 02:28 PM PST  Spy Shots: BMW 5 Series Gran Turismo refresh spotted Filed under: Spy Photos, Hatchback, BMW, Luxury Although there have been plenty of rumors about the BMW 5 Series Gran Turismo being canceled, it looks like BMW might be planning some visual tweaks to the odd hatchback as a possible last-ditch effort to improve sales. Judging by these spy shots, BMW is updating the front and rear fascias of the 5 Series GT, but the camouflage does a good job of preventing us from seeing what changes are in store. This could also be some sort of performance version of the car after checking out the stylish wheels wrapped in Pirelli Sottozero 245/50R18 winter performance rubber. On the other hand, this wouldn't be the first time a company has updated an odd-looking, poor-selling model only to kill it off... we're looking at you 2013 Acura ZDX. Se dice que BMW presentará un nuevo concept car de coche eléctrico en el salón de Los Angeles. Según un artículo del mensual francés L'Automobile Magazine, el fabricante de Munich presentará una versión más deportiva del i3. Al parecer sería un cupé que llevaría el nombre de i4, siguiendo la nueva nomenclatura de BMW para sus carrocerías, los cupés y los cabrios reciben números pares, y las berlinas y breaks, números impares. Este i4 perdería las puertas traseras y unso cm en altura con respecto al i3. Más que un cupé propiamente dicho, sería un hacthback de 3 puertas, cuando el i3 tiene unos aires de MPV un tanto alejado de un turismo. La comercialización del i3 (visto hasta ahora como concept car) está prevista para finales de 2013, mientras que el i4 aún no ha recibido la aprobación de los directivos de la marca de cara a una futura producción en serie. Ambos modelos compartirián el mismo chasis de plástico reforzado de fibra de carbono, pero no el mismo motor eléctrico que desarrolla 170 CV en el i3. En el i4 sería más potente, incluso se rumorea que podría ser un eléctrico de rango extendido, a lo Fisker Karma o Chevy Volt. A medida que se acerque el salón se irán desvelando más detalles. On Halloween we guessed saltwater had somehow led to a short circuit that overheated the cars' batteries and fire, which may be exactly what happened. "We can't be certain exactly what happened at the port," Russell Datz, a Fisker spokesman, tells the New York Times Wheels blog. "But we think being submerged in 13 feet of saltwater had something to do with it."Toyota spokeswoman Cindy Knight tells Wheels that the Prius likely went pyro because "saltwater got into the electrical system." Saltwater, as you probably know, is highly conductive and when it comes into contact with something like an electric car's battery, could cause a short circuit and a fire. Daniel Abraham, chemical scientist at Argonne National Laboratory, gave the blog a more technical explanation. Salts in the water break into positive and negative ions that act as conductors and could have connected the batteries' positive and negative terminals. Next came a short circuit and then, possibly, a fire. No one so far thinks the Karma batteries' lithium cores were to blame. Even though lithium will burn on contact with water, the metal used in hybrid batteries is pretty well protected and isn't likely the source of the fires. Saltwater, as you probably know, is highly conductive and when it comes into contact with something like an electric car's battery, could cause a short circuit and a fire. Daniel Abraham, chemical scientist at Argonne National Laboratory, gave the blog a more technical explanation. Salts in the water break into positive and negative ions that act as conductors and could have connected the batteries' positive and negative terminals. Next came a short circuit and then, possibly, a fire. No one so far thinks the Karma batteries' lithium cores were to blame. Even though lithium will burn on contact with water, the metal used in hybrid batteries is pretty well protected and isn't likely the source of the fires. El Scion FR-S fue nombrado coche más popular del pasado SEMA Show. Curiosamente, Toyota Racing Development (TRD) estaría trabajando para convertir el cupé en una máquina algo más deportiva. Según Car and Driver, TRD estaría desarrollando un compresor para el 2.0 litros del GT86. Actualmente, tiene que conformarse con 200 CV, ya sea con el logotipo Scion, Toyota o Subaru. Lo que no se menciona es sobre la potencia añadida que se podría extraer del bóxer Subaru.Subaru, justamente, está trabajando sobre una versión sobrealimentada por turbo de ese mismo motor para el BRZ, pudiendo incluso dar lugar a una variante STi. Además del sistema de sobrealimentación diferente elegido por las dos marcas, en el caso de Subaru sería un modelo más que expandería la gama BRZ, mientras que en el caso de Toyota-TRD, se trataría de un kit que se compraría a posteriori, tal y como lo vienen haciendo para los Toyota Tundra y Tacoma. The latest Beetle special edition from Volkswagen, the just-for-Spain Beetle Edition 53, on the other hand, is all sizzle and no steak. The Edition 53 package carries stripes, "53" numbers, and is expressly not available with the turbocharged engine; you know, the engine that would actually lend an air of raciness to the Beetle's performance. There is some actual substance to the Edition 53 apart from its spiffy appearance. Standard wheels are 17-inchers, and gears can be swapped by a six-speed DSG. Tire pressure monitoring and Park Pilot parking assistance system are also part of the package. Prices range from 22,090 euros for the Beetle Edition 53 with 1.2 liter TSI four cylinder, and steps through 23,770 euros for a 1.6 liter TDI, 26,150 for a 2.0 liter TDI and the 2.0 TDI with 6-speed DSG will set you back 27,980 euros.
