Los Angeles: 2014 Kia Forte is what's cookin', good lookin'
Filed under: LA Auto Show, Budget, Sedan, Kia We've said it a billion times now, but man, Kias are sure looking good these days. And under the lights of the 2012 Los Angeles Auto Show, we're getting our first look at the next chapter in the Korean brand's quest for beauty, the 2014 Forte sedan. We've given it a good once-over in the flesh, and honestly, it might just be the best-looking car in the C-segment class. There's a whole lot in store for the new Forte, including a choice of two four-cylinder gasoline engines: a 1.8-liter unit making 148 horsepower and 131 pound-feet of torque, and a larger, direct-injected 2.0-liter mill that cranks out 173 hp and 153 lb-ft. Six-speed transmissions are standard across the board, and a proper manual 'box is available on the base LX trim with the 1.8-liter mill. As you can imagine, the Forte is available with lots of premium features that are no strangers to the compact class, including leather seating, navigation/infotainment, LED running lamps at the front and back, and even high-intensity discharge headlamps. A choice of 15-, 16- and 17-inch wheels are available (depending on trim - only the base LX manual gets the 15s), and all in, the Forte is now a seriously more attractive (literally) proposition than it was in its last generation. Official pricing will be announced closer to the car's on-sale date in the first quarter of 2013. For now, scroll down to get the full skinny and see the pretty little Kia for yourself in the attached high-res image galleries.Continue reading 2014 Kia Forte is what's cookin', good lookin'2014 Kia Forte is what's cookin', good lookin' originally appeared on Autoblog on Wed, 28 Nov 2012 21:40:00 EST. Report: MyFord Touch getting second update, extended warranty
Filed under: Technology, Ford, Lincoln, Infotainment There is no doubt that Ford has had its hands full fielding complaints with its MyFord Touch and MyLincoln Touch systems these days, but looking to keep its customers happy, Ford is once again upgrading its infotainment systems and extending the warranties. Despite having just sent out updates for its systems back in March, Automotive News says that customers are still complaining about the speed and ease of use. Vehicles with MyFord Touch will now get a five-year, unlimited-mile warranty, while the MyLincoln Touch will have a six-year, unlimited-mile warranty. Previously, the systems were covered under basic warranties (three-year, 36,000-mile for Ford and four-year, 60,000-miles for Lincoln). What is being referred to as "version 3.5" for the MyFord Touch and MyLincoln Touch systems will be mailed out (or downloaded) next month for owners of cars without navigation and in January for cars with nav. Owners of hybrids, plug-ins and electric vehicles will get the update sometime in the first quarter of next year. The update is said to improve voice recognition and navigation functions.MyFord Touch getting second update, extended warranty originally appeared on Autoblog on Wed, 28 Nov 2012 21:21:00 EST. Los Angeles: New-look 2014 Kia Sorento takes the stage in Los Angeles
Filed under: LA Auto Show, Crossover, Kia The 2014 Kia Sorento may have a new face, but the Korean company assures us that the revisions to the model are far more than skin deep. Inside and out, from the oily bits to the touch points, this Sorento has been fussed over to be a better crossover than ever before. Leading off the changes is the installation of an optional 3.3-liter V6 under the hood. The new mill makes a robust 290 horsepower and 252 pound-feet of torque. Meanwhile, the 2.4-liter direct-injection four-cylinder becomes the default engine for the Sorento, and is still rated at 191 hp and 181 lb-ft. All Sorento models, in front- and all-wheel-drive flavors, make use of a six-speed automatic transmission, as well. Also standard across the range for 2014 is electric power steering with three selectable modes (comfort, normal and sport). Visually, you'll see that Kia has tweaked both the front and rear fascia, added LEDs and available fog lamps to the nose of the CUV and widened the opening on the lower front valence. 17-, 18- and 19-inch wheels are available, depending on just how much shoe-bling you can handle. Get up close and personal with our live gallery of 2014 Kia Sorento images, and be sure to peruse the press release for a few more details on the new crossover.Continue reading New-look 2014 Kia Sorento takes the stage in Los AngelesNew-look 2014 Kia Sorento takes the stage in Los Angeles originally appeared on Autoblog on Wed, 28 Nov 2012 21:00:00 EST. 2013 Fiat 500e looks loud, runs quietly
Filed under: LA Auto Show, Hatchback, Electric, Fiat Somebody wanted it, so we all got it - the Fiat 500e, the electric city car packed with enough Earth-saving tech that CEO Sergio Marchionne quipped (admittedly, early last year) that each one built will cost Fiat $10,000. The good news is that it not only comes with tons of EV-only gadgets and features, it does a good job, to our eye, of flaunting its electric looks and it offers the kinds of personalization one would expect of a hatch in the 500 family. The multi-contrast exterior is grouped into three color packages, including an e-Sport Package that pairs mean with green. The Interior can be had in either Nero or Steam, both coming with Electric Orange accents, and a seven-inch TFT screen with all kinds of electric-car-status details. Juice comes courtesy of a 111-horsepower electric-drive motor with 147 pound-feet of torque, using a battery rated at 24 kWh. Range is estimated at "more than 80 miles" on the 15-inch Firehawk GT low-rolling resistance tires, but Fiat says stories of "greater than 100 miles" aren't uncommon. With our high-res gallery above, you don't have to go that far to check it out from every angle.2013 Fiat 500e looks loud, runs quietly originally appeared on Autoblog on Wed, 28 Nov 2012 20:40:00 EST. Los Angeles: Volkswagen confirms three-row utility for Detroit, no Routan replacement in sight
Filed under: Minivan/Van, SUV, Crossover, Volkswagen, Design/Style At a small media roundtable session with journalists at the Los Angeles Auto Show today, Klaus Bischoff, Volkswagen's head of global design, confirmed that VW's much-rumored three-row utility vehicle will be "most hopefully" revealed at the 2013 Detroit Auto Show. The vehicle is expected to be at once larger and less expensive than the Touareg range, something more akin to a longer Tiguan (shown above) than an off-road juggernaut. That said, Bischoff was quite clear that VW considers the unnamed model to be an SUV, not a crossover. If you're envisioning a body-on-frame vehicle with a low-range, think again. When Bischoff was questioned about what constitutes an SUV versus a CUV, he pointed to design elements like the positioning of the A-pillar, not the hardware underneath. According to Bischoff, the three-row's off-road capability will be "not as strong as the Touareg, but more than good enough to compete... It's an SUV in the European way - in the Volkswagen way." As far as an MPV for North America goes, Bischoff says that a replacement for the aging Routan minivan is "not on the to-do list," noting that VW will end its relationship with Chrysler, which manufacturers the Routan. Word of no future MPV would also appear to corroborate reports that the retro-minded Bulli concept van of 2011 also has no production future.Volkswagen confirms three-row utility for Detroit, no Routan replacement in sight originally appeared on Autoblog on Wed, 28 Nov 2012 20:21:00 EST. Los Angeles: 2014 Fiat 500L Trekking takes the hatchback into the big leagues
Filed under: LA Auto Show, Crossover, Hatchback, Fiat Didn't think it was possible to pull and pry at the diminutive Fiat 500 with enough gumption to make the Italian hatchback qualify as a large car (according to the EPA, at least)? Witness the Fiat 500L Trekking, seen above. It's a full 26-inches longer than the regular 500, and it's grown six-inches taller and wider. All that stretching means there is 42 percent more interior room in the 500L than the standard car, which means it's a good thing the only engine available is Fiat's 1.4-liter MultiAir turbo four-cylinder engine, as seen in the Abarth, with 160-horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque. A manual gearbox is standard, and a dual-clutch automatic is optional, each with six gears. The Trekking model features unique front and rear fascias and 17-inch alloy wheels to set it apart from the base 500L, and the black wheel arch and body-side sill moldings make it look more aggressive. Want to know more? Check out the high-res gallery above and scroll down below for the press release.Continue reading 2014 Fiat 500L Trekking takes the hatchback into the big leagues2014 Fiat 500L Trekking takes the hatchback into the big leagues originally appeared on Autoblog on Wed, 28 Nov 2012 20:10:00 EST. Los Angeles: 2014 Fiat 500L adds size, refinement and toys to 500 lineup
Filed under: LA Auto Show, Crossover, Hatchback, FiatFiat is taking the lead from Mini and expanding its lineup of mini-me runabouts. The Italian automaker has done the 500 every which way, including convertible and performance models and now even electrified versions. Following this expansion comes the first actual growth in size; the 2014 Fiat 500L. First shown at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show in March, the 500L features 42 percent more interior space through lengthening the 500 platform by 26 inches. With that added size comes added power, specifically the 1.4-liter MutliAir inline four cylinder engine. Also found in the Fiat 500 Abarth and Dodge Dart, the turbocharged four-pot makes 160 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque. Power is sent to the front wheels through either a six-speed-manual transmission or a dual-clutch gearbox. From what we can see, the 500L has a more refined and advanced interior than its smaller Italian stablemates. Most notable is the availability of the Uconnect 5.0 (and available 6.5) system, featuring audio and navigation controls, among other functions. The four-door Fiat 500L is set to arrive at dealer showrooms mid-2013, and will be produced in Fiat's Kragujevac, Siberia plant... so you know the heat will work! To learn more about the 500L and its utilitarian predecessors such as the Fiat Panda and Multipla, check out the press release below.Continue reading 2014 Fiat 500L adds size, refinement and toys to 500 lineup2014 Fiat 500L adds size, refinement and toys to 500 lineup originally appeared on Autoblog on Wed, 28 Nov 2012 20:00:00 EST. Los Angeles: Audi torques the floor in LA with four new TDI oil burners
Filed under: LA Auto Show, Sedan, Crossover, Hatchback, Audi, Diesel, Luxury The diesels are coming. Well, one diesel engine sitting pretty under the shapely hoods of five Audi models: the A6, A7 and A8 sedans along with the Q5 crossover are joining the already available Q7, each powered by a 3.0-liter TDI engine offering up 240 horsepower and 406 pound-feet of torque. Suffice it to say, we're pleased. Audi promises improvements up to 30 percent in both fuel economy and carbon dioxide emissions when compared to its gasoline engines. Not all figures are available quite yet, but the A8, which is coming first in the spring of 2013, will score an estimated 24 miles per gallon in the city and 36 mpg on the highway. The run to 60 miles per hour is expected to take just 6.4 seconds in the big sedan. Not to play favorites or anything, but we're definitely looking forward to sampling the Audi A7 TDI when it comes to market in the fall of 2013, along with the A6 and Q5. Pricing is not yet available, though the Q7 has carried a $52,000 base price since it went on sale last September. See the four new Audi TDI models in our high-res image galleries live from the LA Auto Show above and below, and there's a press release below if you're in the mood for some more reading material. Los Angeles: 2013 Volkswagen CC R-Line looks to recapture some flash
Filed under: LA Auto Show, Sedan, Volkswagen, Design/Style Some critics have suggested that the Volkswagen CC may have lost some of its visual verve following its 2012 facelift, the original CC's organic "four-door coupe" form having been made a bit more ordinary with version 2.0. This Volkswagen still has plenty of charm, of course, and those looking for a more aggressive appearance now have the option of the German automaker's newly revealed R-Line model. Primarily an appearance package, the $32,195 R-Line (plus $795 destination) features a unique grille and body kit, with model-specific side skirts and front fascia. Additional standard features include 18-inch "Mallory" alloys, projector headlamps, paddle shifters for the 2.0-liter turbocharged TSI four-cylinder engine and standard navigation. This kitted-up front-drive CC was first seen at Germany's Auto Mobil International show, but Los Angeles marks its Stateside introduction. It is scheduled to hit dealers before year's end. For more information, check out the official press release by scrolling below.Continue reading 2013 Volkswagen CC R-Line looks to recapture some flash2013 Volkswagen CC R-Line looks to recapture some flash originally appeared on Autoblog on Wed, 28 Nov 2012 19:21:00 EST. Los Angeles: 2013 Fiat 500c Abarth takes its top off with a quickness
Filed under: LA Auto Show, Convertible, Performance, Jaguar, Fiat What a pleasant little piece of plug-and-play. Putting the Fiat 500c's retractable roof on the hot 500 Abarth was pretty much a no-brainer, and hey, we certainly aren't complaining. Folding the soft top back on the little hatchback will only allow us to better hear that awesome exhaust note while we're burying the throttle. And come on, who doesn't like a little wind-in-your-hair action? Again, the 500c Abarth package is pretty much a copy/paste job, so dynamically, the car isn't all that different. Under the hood is the same 1.4-liter MultiAir turbocharged inline-four, good for 160 horsepower and up to 170 pound-feet of torque (assuming you pressed the Sport button on the dash - something you really, really ought to do). A five-speed manual transmission is the only 'box available. And don't you dare complain about that. New enhancements for the 2013 500c Abarth include an available Beats Audio system, and buyers will be able to attend a no-cost Abarth Driving Experience, where professional racers will show customers how to make the best use of their cars under full-throttle track applications. Pricing hasn't been announced just yet, but we expect to have that closer to the car's on sale date early next year. Hit the jump for the full deets, and check out the scorpion-stung cabriolet in our attached galleries.Continue reading 2013 Fiat 500c Abarth takes its top off with a quickness2013 Fiat 500c Abarth takes its top off with a quickness originally appeared on Autoblog on Wed, 28 Nov 2012 19:01:00 EST. Los Angeles: BMW i3 Coupe Concept is the newest in LifeDrive "stream flow" design
Filed under: Concept Cars, LA Auto Show, Coupe, BMW, Electric This is the BMW i3 Coupe Concept, a sharpened take on all of the acronymous innovations wrought by four-door BMW i3 Concept: "stream flow" design wrapping its LifeDrive architecture and Life Module cabin. Presenting an evolved future beyond the already-futuristic four-door i3 Concept, the i3 Coupe Concept is a case of meticulous design and technological detail, hitting notes like anthracite-coloured kenaf fiber for the door support panels, three modes of sustainable driving and more advanced ways to calculate its route and range. Its range is 100 miles, and for the BMW purists, the i3 Coupe Concept pushes its 170 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque to the rear wheels. It awaits your scrutiny in the high-res gallery above.Continue reading BMW i3 Coupe Concept is the newest in LifeDrive "stream flow" designBMW i3 Coupe Concept is the newest in LifeDrive "stream flow" design originally appeared on Autoblog on Wed, 28 Nov 2012 18:40:00 EST. Los Angeles: 2013 Chrysler Town and Country S adds a dash of cool to your schoolhouse run
Filed under: LA Auto Show, Minivan/Van, Chrysler Bringing the Chrysler "S" treatment to the Town and Country minivan does not - let us be clear - make the thing any more formidable to drive. But, kicking in the cool factor for its bread-and-butter grocery-getter might just convince a few more moms and dads to pull the trigger on buying a new family ride. The Town and Country S trim basically adds a suite of black and black chrome accents to the vehicle, as well as a not-quite-murdered-out-treatment for the interior. The model also comes standard with Chrysler's new Blu-Ray player for the rear seat entertainment system, which is sure to make the kids feel like little ballers, too. Pictures aplenty to feed your van fetish, live from Los Angeles, above, along with the press release below.Continue reading 2013 Chrysler Town and Country S adds a dash of cool to your schoolhouse run2013 Chrysler Town and Country S adds a dash of cool to your schoolhouse run originally appeared on Autoblog on Wed, 28 Nov 2012 18:21:00 EST. Report: Koenigsegg One:1 boasts one horsepower per kilogram, is headed to China
Filed under: Coupe, Performance, China, Luxury, MISCKoenigsegg the car company appears to be on a streak in China right now, and its namesake founder is riding the lightning with the car you see above, the Koenigsegg One:1. Scanned from a brochure for the coupe, the name is a reference to its power output of one horsepower per kilogram. It's weight isn't known, but Cars UK says it's lighter than the Agera R and so probably in the area of 1,250 to 1,350 kilograms, and hence, hp. Koenigsegg the owner is apparently making the rounds of Asia and the Middle East to secure orders for the five One:1 models that will be produced. Cost is in the $2-million ballpark, which puts the One:1 in the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport ballpark, yet with acceleration that just might beat it. We'll probably never see it outside of scans and customs catastrophes, but it's good to see the Swedish speed merchant continually raising his game.Koenigsegg One:1 boasts one horsepower per kilogram, is headed to China originally appeared on Autoblog on Wed, 28 Nov 2012 17:59:00 EST.
