Era una edición extremadamente limitada, y todas las unidades se vendieron en un abrir y cerrar de ojos. Así que los norteamericanos de este preparador han decidido darle una vuelta de tuerca más a su concepto, y presentarnos, de momento en render, el Venom GT2. La idea es sencilla: Si el Venom "molaba" con 1.000 caballos, con 1.500 caballos lo hará más todavía. De esta manera, el aparato pasará a contar con un kilo por caballo. Como puedes ver en las imágenes, estéticamente cambia poco, pero lo justo: una "boca" distinta, y grupos ópticos propios, en lugar de reutilizar los de Lotus. Concretamente, en su caso, se toma un Subaru BRZ como punto de partida. A partir de él se ha instalado el kit de carrocería Rocket Bunny, que ya habíamos visto por estos lares hace unas semanas. Se ha convertido el frontal al del Scion FR-S (gusto nipón de tener lo que en Japón no se comercializa), mientras que las llantas son diseño propio de Bee Racing. La suspensión se ha retocado, con un kit a medida, que deja la carrocería a ras de suelo (una idea que si bien estéticamente puede funcionar, dinámicamente tendrá sus "peros"), mientras que también se ha cambiado el diferencial autoblocante. En cuanto al sistema de escape, se ha modificado el tramo final. Su creador afirma que todavía no está satisfecho con algunos detalles (frenada, par en baja), pero está trabajando para seguir con el programa de mejoras... And riding hard and fast, on and around the the legendary Mulholland Highway can be riskier still. Especially, as is evident from this exceptionally creepy video, if one happens to be hot-dogging it for on-lookers and cameras. Of course, motorcycle crash videos are a dime a dozen in this era of YouTube. That's why one enterprising filmmaker has taken a collection of some spectacular lay-downs, and played the tape backwards. You'll be paying $100 to $200 to pick one up at a retail parts store. But what about hybrid electric vehicles? The Toyota Prius and Honda Insight have been on American roads for about a decade now, with some having more than 150,000 miles on their odometers. Battery replacements for these and other hybrids are going to cost much more than they will for internal combustion engine vehicles - about $1,500 to $2,500 to buy the battery pack and have it installed in a hybrid. For those consumers attached to keeping their car, the hybrid does have its advantages. Consumer Reports has been impressed with the reliability of hybrid batteries and performance of the cars overall. For one thing, in the most popular hybrid design from Toyota, there are virtually no wearable parts in the transmission. "So if you have to spend $1,800 on a battery after 150,000 miles, you're still ahead of where you would have been in many less-reliable cars that are on their second or third transmission by then," said Eric Evarts, senior associate autos editor at Consumer Reports. Hybrid owners need to look at their warranty coverage to see their options, which could cover as much as 150,000 miles. That was the case for a New York resident who owns a 2005 Prius and was quoted $4,000 for a new battery pack. He found out his car was covered by the longer 150,000-mile warranty that applies to owners in states like New York that follow California's stricter emission laws. Toyota owners are also finding out that credits can be applied for the old battery. Toyota is charging $3,649 for a first- or second-generation Prius battery pack, but a $1,350 "core credit" can be applied to the old battery, bringing the actual cost to the consumer down to $2,299 for the replacement. Owners of 2006 to 2009 model year Honda Civic hybrids are paying about $2,000 for a replacement pack. Hybrid electric vehicle owners almost always needed to be willing to pay more for their cars than for a comparable ICE vehicle. Those cars rose to prominence in the 1970s and '80s to become performance legends of their day. The new models will reportedly make use of the rear-wheel drive platform that currently underpins the Cadillac ATS and all would arrive as sedans - according to an unnamed source familiar with the initiative. Odds are the T-Type and the Grand National would share a driveline, with honest money being on a new twin-turbocharged 3.6-liter V6 as the engine of choice. Word has it the mill will be good for anywhere from 350 to 400 horsepower. That leaves only the GNX. Inside Line seems to think that machine could get down the road with some help from the all-new GM LT1 small-block V8. The engineers behind the ATS platform have already told us the engine bay is large enough for to accommodate the big eight pot, and since GM is most certainly working on an ATS-V, a slightly less powerful, less luxurious Buick iteration makes some kind of sense. It looks like the same worse-for-wear mule's that's been popular with photographers for a few months now, its camo-clad exterior and a bit of its interior no longer secrets. What we can confirm is the surfeit of rumors about what it will have under the hood. As it uses the skeleton of the Audi Q5, no one will be surprised if it uses a modified version of the Q5's heart, the supercharged, 272-horsepower 3.0-liter V6. Supposition beyond that goes to a hybrid Macan with an electrically-assisted, 2.0-liter four-cylinder, also from the Q5, and then to a possible 370-hp, twin-turbo V6. Somewhere in all of that, along with bumf that a three-door Macan could factor as a rival to the Range Rover Evoque, is a model matrix that is expected to sell 75,000 units in its first year. According to Automobile magazine, "most significant game-changer from Coventry" will be arriving on the same PLA platform that supports the Jaguar XJ and 2013 Range Rover. Kacher says the small sedan has already got the green light as codename X760, and will bow first as a four-door sedan, then as a crossover a year later. This puts a date to a recent Autocar report that a small sedan and crossover were in the works. We've been getting reports of and concepts for a successor to the X-Type ever since Tata bought Jaguar - like the Bertone B99 concept last year, and this enthusiast concept more recently - since everyone knows it's what has to happen for "a new Jaguar" to succeed. But to help buyers counter this to the best of their abilities, ALG has released its 14th annual list of best bets for retained value. Toyota stands out from the crowd with nine total awards on the list, including its Scion and Lexus brands. But Honda took the top spot among mainstream brands with Hyundai second and Scion third. Subaru is fourth and Mazda fifth. In the premium brand rankings, Acura is ranked Number One, while Infiniti and Audi bring up second and third. In fourth place is Lexus and in fifth, Mercedes-Benz. Chevrolet is listed as number fifteen - last place on the mainstream list, while Lincoln is at the bottom of premium brands in tenth position. "Hyundai's ascent as a brand is nothing short of impressive," said Larry Dominique, president of ALG in a press release. "Since 2007, when the brand ranked in the bottom quartile for residual value, Hyundai has delivered well-executed product, and has kept incentives and fleet - two elements that can quickly damage residual value - in check. And, as demonstrated by the redesigned Santa Fe Sport, they continue to deliver." ALG also looked at residual values within specific segments. Among sub compact cars, the Honda Fit retains the most residual value on average. Honda Accord (pictured) was tops in midsize cars and the Odyssey among minivans. Compact car goes to Hyundai's Elantra and fullsize car to that company's Azera. The Koreans also excelled with the Santa Fe Sport in the midsize utility vehicle category. Toyota products show up nine times in the segments with the Prius C taking alt-fuel vehicle, Scion FR-S in sports car, the FJ Cruiser among compact utility vehicles and Sequoia best among full size utilities. Toyotas beat out the domestics in pickup trucks, too, with the Tacoma taking midsize category and Tundra the full size division. The Land Cruiser kept the most residual value when compared to other premium full size utility vehicles and premium cars from Lexus took the full size (GS 350) and executive (LS 460) categories. Posted: 26 Nov 2012 01:45 PM PST Report: Acura, Honda, Toyota dominate ALG Residual Value awards Filed under: Car Buying, Acura, Chevrolet, Honda, Hyundai, Lexus, Lincoln, Mercedes-Benz, Nissan, Scion, Subaru, Toyota Drive a new car off the lot and, boom, it's used and not worth nearly what you own on it. But to help buyers counter this to the best of their abilities, ALG has released its 14th annual list of best bets for retained value. Toyota stands out from the crowd with nine total awards on the list, including its Scion and Lexus brands. But Honda took the top spot among mainstream brands with Hyundai second and Scion third. Subaru is fourth and Mazda fifth. In the premium brand rankings, Acura is ranked Number One, while Infiniti and Audi bring up second and third. In fourth place is Lexus and in fifth, Mercedes-Benz. Chevrolet is listed as number fifteen - last place on the mainstream list, while Lincoln is at the bottom of premium brands in tenth position. "Hyundai's ascent as a brand is nothing short of impressive," said Larry Dominique, president of ALG in a press release. "Since 2007, when the brand ranked in the bottom quartile for residual value, Hyundai has delivered well-executed product, and has kept incentives and fleet - two elements that can quickly damage residual value - in check. And, as demonstrated by the redesigned Santa Fe Sport, they continue to deliver." ALG also looked at residual values within specific segments. Among sub compact cars, the Honda Fit retains the most residual value on average. Honda Accord (pictured) was tops in midsize cars and the Odyssey among minivans. Compact car goes to Hyundai's Elantra and fullsize car to that company's Azera. The Koreans also excelled with the Santa Fe Sport in the midsize utility vehicle category. Toyota products show up nine times in the segments with the Prius C taking alt-fuel vehicle, Scion FR-S in sports car, the FJ Cruiser among compact utility vehicles and Sequoia best among full size utilities. Toyotas beat out the domestics in pickup trucks, too, with the Tacoma taking midsize category and Tundra the full size division. The Land Cruiser kept the most residual value when compared to other premium full size utility vehicles and premium cars from Lexus took the full size (GS 350) and executive (LS 460) categories. Hasta ahora se habían publicado todos los detalles relativos a los motores y equipamiento, pero faltaba una galería de imágenes en un escenario más real que permitiera ver cómo le sienta su nueva carrocería... y aquí te la traemos. No sé si serán las imágenes de excelente calidad o las tomas realizadas con muy buen ojo, el caso es que en estas nuevas tomas tiene una estampa más agresiva y atractiva, muy personal e inconfundible. El frontal se lleva el protagonismo general, siendo tanto la vista lateral como la zaga las zonas más sencillas y menos innovadoras. En el caso de las versiones híbridas, se mantienen los pequeños detalles específicos que lo diferencian de los convencionales. It's pictured above because it's been years since we've taken a good look at it. And now that hints are coming from General Motors about the look of the next-gen Volt, we thought it'd be fun to remember how far we've come. "Ed Welburn is not going to let us do anything weird, I can tell you that." Speaking at an event in San Francisco recently, John Cafaro, Director of Exterior Design for Chevrolet, briefly mentioned the work his team is doing on the next-gen Volt, saying that the Chevy design guys like what Opel did to make the European-market Ampera look a bit more aggressive. As for a future Volt, he said, "We're going to do some things with the Volt down the road, make it a little more monochromatic, a little more road-hugging." The Voltec plug-in hybrid powertrain will find a home in other vehicles - as we know with Cadillac concepts like the ULC and the ELR - and Cafaro said that with four brands to experiment with, this is where we could see some style diversity. GM is watching the plug-in competition, the Ford C-Max Energi and Toyota Prius Plug-In, as it works on future product. "We've got one bullet in the chamber with the Volt," he said. "We're getting some feedback. We've already built a body of research. There are a lot of different camps. From a design perspective, people want an exciting vehicle. Now, what does exciting mean? A lot of zoom-y lines? Deep cut forms? A lot of muscular shapes? We are looking at all the different kinds of design DNA for how we proceed with this technology. Nothing is left off the table. No idea is a bad idea." Well, maybe some. Cafaro said GM will not be aping any out-there vehicle design, like the Aptera. "Ed Welburn is not going to let us do anything weird, I can tell you that," he said.
