Heck, some of us still do. Well, Nissan has taken that notion and applied it to a live-action racing game. Dubbed the Voice Driver Cup, the game uses voice commands to control a toy car around a racetrack. The idea apparently took over a year to bring to fruition. According to the YouTube description, "No complicated driving operations are needed as the volume of voice voice is translated directly into the car's propulsion." It appears from the videos that a great amount of work on the back end went in to making a racing game that was this easy to play, and the result is that all ages can take part in the fun. A competition was held on November 17 in the gallery at Nissan HQ, and a winner was crowned. Following that event, Nissan set up a system by which competitors could vocalize their way to victory from the web, using microphones and mini-cams on each car. It is unlikely Buick will completely redesign or replace its current logo, but the article seems to indicate that it might return to color; although all chrome now, the logo used to feature red, white and blue shields. Duan Jianjun, de BMW Brilliance China Automotive (la joint-venture que fabrica algunos BMW en China), comentó a los medios chinos en el salón de Guangzhou que la marca se estaba esforzando para vender un millón de coches entre 2012 y 2014; es decir, de manera cumulada, no anualmente. "Es realista, a no ser que el mercado se deteriore. Si las condiciones se mantienen como hasta ahora, entonces sí, es una estimación realista", explicó una portavoz en Alemania del grupo bávaro. El mercado chino del lujo se ha ralentizado después de años de crecimiento a todo gas, aunque la demanda de coches de gama alta se mantiene. Las ventas de vehículos premium representan actualmente entre el 9 y el 10% del mercado chino. Mientras tanto, las ventas del grupo BMW en China han subido un 52% en el mes de octubre gracias a la introducción del X1 fabricado en China por Brilliance y del BMW Serie 3 de batalla larga. Daniel Kirchert, senior vice presidente de BMW China, explicó a Sohu.com que BMW Brilliance Automotive estaba preparando el lanzamiento de un modelo específico para el mercado chino, sin dar más detalles. The Middle Eastern investment firm took a 9.1-percent stake in Daimler in 2009, had dropped that to 3.1 percent earlier this year, then got rid of the remainder in October. Part of that original deal in 2009 was a 40-percent share in the Mercedes Formula One team, and Reuters has reported that Daimler just bought that back as well. Pending approval from the regulatory authorities, the German company will fully control its F1 team (team principal Ross Brawn had owned 24.9-percent of the team but sold it to Mercedes in early 2011). The amount paid for the stake hasn't been disclosed. Daimler can now focus on getting the team where it wishes to be, which is not down in fifth place fighting with Sauber and with less than half the points of fourth-placed Lotus. The team rebranded itself Mercedes-AMG this year, has committed to Formula One's Concorde Agreement until 2020 and signed Lewis Hamilton for three years. Our neighbors to the north say they've come up with a cheaper, more efficient wireless charging system for electric vehicles. Specifically, engineers at the University of British Columbia (UBC) have developed a way to wirelessly charge a vehicle that cuts frequency by 99 percent, an advancement said to have health benefits. In a nutshell, the system uses one magnet in the charging system and one in the vehicle to eliminate the need for radio waves in the charging process. UBC, which has four wireless charging stations on its Vancouver campus, says its chargers have 90 percent of the efficiency of a wired charging system. The device has an unexpected pedigree, as the magnetically-driven charging system was originally designed for a pacemaker. Tras conquistar el corazón de los consumidores generalistas con apuestas seguras y muy atractivas, ahora ponen el ojo en los segmentos de nicho para seguir generando nuevos clientes y aumentar la imagen de marca. Kia está ultimando los detalles del nuevo pro_cee'd GT, una versión muy dinámica que por primera será ofertada en el compacto (si no contamos el Turbo vendido en Sudáfrica en serie limitada). Si estéticamente promete ser todo un caramelito a la vista de la espectacular estampa que ya luces las variantes convencionales, bajo el capó asegurarán un nivel de prestaciones más que digno gracias al bloque 1.6 GDI-T. Rondará los 200 CV de potencia y podrá combinarse con el cambio secuencial de doble embrague DCT. | Posted: 23 Nov 2012 10:01 AM PST Quick Spin: 2013 Audi S5 Coupe Filed under: Coupe, Performance, Audi, Luxury, Quick Spins It's hard to believe, but 2013 marks the sixth model year for the Audi S5 (it launched as a 2008 model). I've loved this coupe since the day it debuted, but if I'm honest, the thing that really made the S5 special at launch was its awesome 4.2-liter naturally aspirated V8. You know, the one from the old RS4. And the R8.Audi started building S5 Cabriolet models with a 3.0-liter supercharged V6 starting in 2010, and for 2013, that super-six is the only engine available for both models. Don't get me wrong, I like the 3.0T engine. (Oh hey, Audi, please stop calling it a 3.0T. There isn't anything 'T' about it.) And I've said plenty of nice things about this engine in my reviews of the A6 and A8. But do those same sentiments carry over to the S5?Driving Notes In terms of power, there's nothing to complain about here. The 3.0T Quattro engine makes 333 horsepower and 325 pound-feet of torque - the same numbers as all other 3.0T-equipped cars. Compared to the old 4.2-liter, that's down 21 horsepower (the torque number remains unchanged), but fuel economy is improved by three miles per gallon in the city and four mpg highway. Despite the reduction of 21 horses, Audi still claims a 4.9-second 0-60 time for the 2013 model - same as a 2012 S5 with the 4.2-liter. That said, getting to 60 miles per hour isn't nearly as dramatic in the new car. Perhaps the best part about the S5 4.2 package was the fact that you could rev the naturally aspirated engine all the way up to 7,000 rpm, and the noise it made was awesome. There wasn't a ton of low-end power, but that engine was seriously fun to play around with, especially above 3,500 rpm. I do like that with Audi Drive Select (part of the $3,250 Driver Assist package), one of the things you can adjust in the 2013 S5 is the exhaust note. In Dynamic mode there's definitely an audible grumble, and it sounds really good if you're hard on the throttle. It doesn't quite have the same roar as that old V8, but it's a lot better than what originally came on the 3.0T Cabriolet. There's a whole lot more low-end torque with this new engine, though it doesn't rev quite as high. The S5 isn't quite as tantalizing with its more flaccid mill, but it's hardly impotent on the road. The Quattro all-wheel-drive formula is still top-notch, and the optional 19-inch wheels and summer tires of this test car ($800) improve grip while cornering. With the car's other adjustable functions in Dynamic mode - powertrain, steering, etc. - the S5 is fantastic to drive. The steering has great weight and crisp turn-in (though it does feel a bit dead on-center), and the suspension damping isn't at all harsh but offers lots of feedback. The brakes are great, and though there's a good deal of travel to the clutch pedal, the six-speed manual transmission is still all sorts of sweet to use. Inside, there's more to love. Quality and materials are top notch, and the seats are both comfortable and supportive, while looking great too. Audi hasn't yet updated the A5/S5 with its new MMI Touch interface, but the navigation system in our Prestige model did have the cool Google Earth mapping display. We've played with this before, but it still has that gee-whiz coolness about it, simply because no other automaker is offering something like it. Other updates for 2013 include the revised front fascia with new headlamp clusters. Audi pioneered the LED daytime running light hotness, and the new shape to the front graphic is pretty great. LED lights are fitted out back, as well. Also of note is the new Estoril Blue paint color seen in these photos. It's damn pretty, and photos don't do it justice. The 2013 S5 is still a truly sweet package, but at $66,570 fully loaded, people seeking a true enthusiast machine would do better with a lighter, quicker, more powerful BMW M3. But with the beauty of Quattro on hand, handsome good looks and a high-quality interior, the S5 has a lot going for it. Con la introducción del primer motor diésel en el MG6, la firma chino-británica ya tiene mejores cartas para lograr el éxito. En cualquier caso no será un súper ventas, pero al menos debería animar la tímida demanda registrada hasta ahora. Competir en los segmentos C y D sin un propulsor diésel es todo un riesgo (copan el 90% de las ventas, muchos de flota), y si encima la firma tiene el respaldo de un grupo chino la cosa no mejora. Pero lo cierto es que MG quiere conseguir hacerse un hueco en suelo británico y ahora tienen el arma definitiva: el nuevo motor 1.85 TurboD de 150 CV. Los chicos de la revista Autocar ya han podido ponerse a sus mandos y, para sorpresa de muchos, han salido bastante satisfechos con el resultado obtenido. Two European banks downgraded the company's stock, with UBS AG dropping the company's stock from a "buy" rating to "neutral." Likewise, Deutsche Bank cut the company's shares from "hold" to "sell" amid concerns that the company will need a new cash infusion to fund CEO Sergio Marchionne's plans for the automaker. Marchionne has made it clear he plans to purchase the remainder of Chrysler, which will require Fiat to raise somewhere between 1.6 billion and 2.9 billion euros. That's due in part to the fact that the company may have to start paying fair-market value for Chrysler stock as the company's initial public offer grows near.Bloomberg reports Marchionne is keen to increase the Fiat stake in Chrysler in order to access the profitable North American manufacturer's cash flow. Fiat could then use those funds to jump start its ailing European operations, though Marchionne has been quoted as saying Fiat doesn't need Chrysler's cash to bring its EU business in line.
