Cómo no, el récord lo batió el Kaiser, Michael Schumacher. Y no hablamos de su pésimo resultado (décimo sexto y doblado), y menos aún del rancho de 500 hectáreas en Tejas que se compró esa semana. En la vuelta nº 10, el múltiple campeón mundial y actual piloto de Mercedes se convirtió en el el piloto con más kilómetros en competición a su activo. Esa décima vuelta al COTA marcaba en su contador personal la fríolera de 80.000 km en competición al volante de un Fórmula 1 en 19 temporadas. Cuando finalice el Gran Premio de Brasil, el próximo 25 de noviembre, el Kaiser habrá recorrido dos veces la circunferencia de la Tierra pilotando un F1. Marvel at that image while you can, because the car doesn't maintain that posture for long. Once the front tires re-enter the Earth's atmosphere, the situation goes muddy quickly. There's a bounce or two, some sideways action and a few brief concrete kisses before the party comes to a complete stop. Anyone who says drag racing is boring clearly hasn't watched someone ping-pong their purpose-built factory drag car down the quarter mile. Word has it the driver of this particular pony-shaped pinball walked away from the incident without injury, though we imagine it was a minute or two before his car crawled up to the Christmas tree once again. When new, that torquey 2.4-liter four-cylinder would snap the truck sideways in second and send the skinny rubber at the live rear axle chirping through fourth. I spent every family vacation for years crammed in the back under a camper shell, plowing roads through blankets with my Hot Wheels while we buzzed our way north from Knoxville to Mackinac State Park or south to Orlando. It suffered my long and laborious stick-shift learning curve and the even more painful slog to passable vehicle control. Saturday mornings were spent riding around gnawing on a pack of poptarts with Dad at the wheel of our little red truck and Dire Straits on the two-speaker cassette deck. The faithful pickup piled on miles over the years until eventually, I grew old enough to take the wheel myself. By then, the paint had faded more orange than red, the chassis bore scars from a number of bumps and bruises at the hands of everyone in the family and the engine sounded like someone had dumped a bag of hammers under the valve cover every time I hit the starter. It suffered my long and laborious stick-shift learning curve and the even more painful slog to passable vehicle control. I bounced it off of guard rails, rock outcroppings and other cars, but the machine never once came close to laying down. At some point, only the cab and doors remained of the original sheetmetal. It carried me through high school and into college before I turned my attention elsewhere, and Dad continued to drive the old Hardbody to work and back until just last year, when he finally gave in and drove what was left of his first new vehicle to the scrap yard with over 300,000 miles on the original drivetrain. That little truck was ingrained in the heartwood of my family tree, and this 14,000-mile example in Salem, Oregon is an identical clone in nearly every way. From the gray cloth bench seat to the awkward steering wheel and homely looks, this little machine is the unlikeliest of time capsules, and if I had the $7,500 asking price, I'd pay the sentimentality tax in a heartbeat to have it in my garage. Indeed, a Massachusetts judge has denied a request among auto dealers to restrict the electric-vehicle maker from operating its own retail stores, according to Automotive Week reports. The ruling appears to be a departure of sorts from the "church and state" set-up of vehicle makers and dealers, in which the auto companies are required to grant franchises instead of selling the vehicles themselves. In this case, Tesla, so far, is cleared to open a retail store outside of Boston. The Massachusetts State Automobile Dealers Association, which sued Tesla last month, may appeal the decision, while the National Automobile Dealers Association (NADA) declined to comment. The company says that the milestone model rolled off the line at the manufacturer's Fiat Auto Poland facility. The one millionth 500 is a Lounge model with optional three-layer Bianco Perla exterior paint. While the quirky little European runabout touched down on US shores for the 2011 model year, the hatchback has been on sale in the EU since 2007. In fact, Fiat sells the compact in more than 100 countries. While the North American model features a few aesthetic differences, including a revised front fascia, the car retains much of its European flair. North American buyers have responded by dragging home a full 70,000 units since the model debut on our side of the globe. Each of those vehicles were manufactured at the Fiat plant in Toluca, Mexico. Debería quedar situado como el sedán más accesible y económico de la firma, por debajo de los exitosos City y Civic. Estéticamente hay que reconocer que el producto final les ha quedado bastante aceptable. Los chicos de Honda han sabido integrar el tercer volumen a un urbanita que precisamente no presumía de una zaga muy convencional. Se estrenará tanto en la India como en Tailandia durante los primeros meses del año que viene y será el primer Honda en estrenar el nuevo 1.5 i-DTEC diésel, derivado del también nuevo 1.6 i-DTEC que sobre el Civic desarrolla 120 CV. En gasolina seguirá estando a la venta el 1.2 i-VTEC de 96 CV ya visto en otros productos. Por ahora desconocemos más detalles del Amaze, pero lo que es seguro es que no lo veremos por Europa Occidental. Sí podría tener un hueco en la oferta brasileña, aunque está por confirmar. Para la gama 2013, FAW-VW ha realizado un restyling profundo que afecta principalmente al frontal. As it turns out, the most popular hybrid on US roads has a very low theft rate, and when it does get stolen, law enforcement are quick to return the machine to its rightful owners. All told, 2008-2012 Prius models saw a theft rate of one in 606 vehicles compared to one in 78 for all models on the road from the same model year period. Just 2,439 Prius hybrids were stolen in the US between September 4, 2000 and June 30, 2012. Not surprisingly, California holds the dubious honor of taking the lion's share of those thefts, with 1,062. Florida took second place with 127, followed by New York, Washington and Texas. Toyota has sold 1.2 million Prius models in the US, which means the vehicle constitutes more than half of all hybrid vehicles on the road today. And, no, it wasn't his finishing in 16th place and lapped by the leaders that got the attention. Nor was it his recent purchase of a 500-acre horse ranch in Texas. While watching the broadcast television coverage, the chief commentator announced that, upon the completion of Lap 10 of the 3.4-mile Circuit of the Americas, Schumacher became the most traveled Formula One pilot in history. That lap saw him clock 80,000 kilometers - or 49,710 miles - in competition in an F1 car over 19 seasons. By the time he finishes the 2012 F1 season finale on November 25th in Brazil, that'll be over two-times the 24,901-mile circumference of planet Earth driven in a Formula One car. This feat outdistanced the record set by his former Ferrari teammate Rubens Barrichello, though it is not known if Barrichello came to the Mercedes trailer after the race to congratulate the seven-time F1 champ. Hoy completamos la galería de imágenes con nuevas tomas que nos permiten observar con más detalle las modificaciones introducidas. | Posted: 21 Nov 2012 12:45 PM PST  The List: The List #0073: Drive the Nürburgring Filed under: Videos, BMW, The List Any trip to the automotive mecca of Germany would not be complete without a visit to the famed Nürburgring, nor would a list called 1,001 Automotive Things To Do Before You Die. Thus, we've reached the whole point of Jessi and Patrick's trip to Germany: Drive the Nürburgring. Many prior episodes of The List have prepared J and P for what's required of them to lap the Nürburgring Nordschleife successfully without shunting the BMW M3 they picked up earlier, but we felt they needed a little more schooling. After having them read up on The Green Hell and memorize its corners in simulators, the final instruction came from the Queen of the 'Ring herself, Sabine Schmitz, who was gracious enough to give our hosts a tour of the track. Unfortunately, the M3 couldn't hold up to a single lap's worth of Sabine's driving skills, but don't fault the car: The Nürburgring has 73 turns, is 12.8-miles long and changes nearly 1,000 feet in elevation. The company has yet to release details on how much more the critically acclaimed electric vehicle will cost moving forward, but has released a few details about how the shift will affect buyers with existing reservations. Tesla says the increase will not apply to anyone who has a reservation so long as they configure and finalize their order "within a fair and predefined timeframe." Likewise, those buyers who deferred their reservations will be able to keep the original pricing by finalizing their order within the same timeframe. Tesla says the price shift will also include changes to the Model S option package structure, and that some features currently considered standard equipment will become added cost options in the future. As with the overall price increase, these changes will not impact those with current orders, reservations or deferred reservations.
