Unless we're talking about some quivering carbon-fiber monocoque Formula One racer or a thrashing top fuel drag machine, slow motion footage is largely wasted on the mechanical. That rule of thumb doesn't apply to motorcycles, however. The crew from See See Motorcycles recently took time to go play in the dirt, and Greg Schmitt was on hand to capture the chaos in glorious slow-mo. While the clip includes a good dose of hilarity with riders bolting through piles of leaves and even full bags of flour, we're more taken with a mighty showdown between two dirt-bike-riding ladies. Emily and Tori George square off in a good old-fashioned, high-stakes tug of war using a pair of vintage Hondas for the duel. As you may recall, parent company Daimler fired Lieb claiming the 57-year-old executive used company funds to upgrade his personal home, though he has denied the claim all along, going so far as to sue his former employer. All told, Daimler said Lieb spent more than $100,000 to upgrade his company home in Mahwah, New Jersey. The money was allegedly used to purchase a home theater, a gym, a washer and dryer and a barbecue. On Thursday, November 8, a court in Stuttgart dismissed the suit, saying the claims against Lieb were "so serious that any further employment [at Daimler] would be unacceptable." The point Cobb makes is that oil molecules can be used for valuable resources by being transformed into substances with true value - clothing, medicines, building materials, carpet and myriad other products. In these applications, oil can be reused or recycled, but burning oil in internal combustion engines is a one-time event. It also has harmful side effects like greenhouse gases and pollutants. There's always electricity for powering vehicles, as there was over 100 years ago during the early days of automobiles. Electric cars were common during that period, but by the 1930s, ICEs made up the majority and gasoline was plentiful and affordable, so electric vehicles went away.Electric vehicles are much cleaner than ICEs, but they face the dilemma of being powered mostly by fossil fuel. Two-thirds of all electricity consumed in the world is generated by power plants using fossil fuel - coal and natural gas - and it's inefficient in its energy use. Only one-third of the heat energy from a power plant gets turned into electricity, Cobb wrote. While electric vehicles making their way to large numbers on our roads would reduce dependence on petroleum, the way that they're powered would not be reducing greenhouse gases. Large-scale solutions are needed to change direction, he wrote. Fueling electricity by renewable energy sources and extending mass transit routes and ridership would make an obvious improvement, but we're still years away from seeing those solutions carry weight. The resources for changing over to renewable-powered electrification would be vast - reducing greenhouse gas emissions and air pollution; ending oil imports to the US and other countries; and economic benefits of dollars that used to be spent on imported oil being spent domestically. Auto sales on the continent have fallen by 7.3 percent in 2012, but for October the drop wasn't as bad, at 4.8 percent according to Automotive News Europe. The UK managed to increase sales by 12.1 percent, but other markets including Greece and Italy continued to show a weakening market for new cars. While many automakers saw double-digit drops (or close to it), Volkswagen saw sales dip by only .5 percent, holding the automaker's spot as Europe's top-selling brand. Ford is Europe's second-best-selling automaker, and it saw a drop of 8.3 percent in sales. Posted: 18 Nov 2012 11:55 AM PST Report: Hamilton, Vettel forced to modify their helmets for the USGP Filed under: Motorsports, Racing After years of waiting, Formula 1 racing is finally back in the United States, and while most drivers were focused on getting ready for the all-new Circuit of the Americas track, two of the sport's most popular drivers were involved in off-track distractions due to their helmet designs. For different reasons, Lewis Hamilton and Sebastian Vettel were both forced to make changes to their helmets before qualifying for the US Grand Prix according to Total F1. USGP polesitter and season points leader Vettel's helmet had the words "gives you wings" written on the top of his helmet, which, as the motto for his Red Bull sponsor, goes against a Bernie Ecclestone rule that forbids advertising on top of racers' helmets. Total F1 says that this rule was made so as not to ruin the on-board camera view from above the driver. Hamilton, on the other hand, was forced to alter his helmet due to the letters "H.A.M." painted on the back. While a casual observer might think this has something to do with his last name, these letters are actually an acronym for "hard as a mother******" which goes against the FIA's no-swearing policy. Both helmets were easily fixed with a little cover-up tape. Filed under: Convertible, Coupe, Audi, Design/Style, Luxury Although the styling of the Audi TT hasn't changed dramatically over its two generations of existence, AutoCar thinks that the next version will be more like the original car rather than a further evolution of the sporty compact. According to the report, the next TT will "recapture some of the distinctiveness and impact" that the car exhibited when it debuted back in 1998. What does this mean exactly? Think small, light and fast. In addition to keeping current design elements like the flared fenders, short overhangs and aerofoil-like roofline, AutoCar expects the new TT to use Audi design cues found on other recent models like the angular headlights and six-sided grille. All-wheel drive will continue to be available, as will the TT RS, and a wider track is rumored for better stability. El nuevo Sail U-Va llega para sustituir al anterior Aveo U-VA basado en la primera generación del popular modelo. At the time, it was deemed a design study, but after a "remarkable" reaction from the concept's unveiling, McLaren has announced the GT3-inspired car will be sold in extremely limited numbers. The MP4-12C Can-Am Edition heads to production next March with a hefty price of £375,000 (just under $596,000 USD). Designed to pay homage to the success of Bruce McLaren and Denny Hulme in the Can-Am Series during the 1960s, McLaren calls its MP4-12C Can-Am Edition the ultimate track car, with upgrades that include an extra 30 horsepower squeezed from the mid-mounted 3.8-liter twin-turbo V8 (now rated at 630 hp). Aerodynamic changes are said to improve downforce by 30 percent, and the car's lightweight forged alloy wheels get wrapped in Pirelli rubber. The overall styling of the Can-Am Edition makes it easily distinguishable from the street-legal MP4-12C, but there are also subtle differences to set it apart from the GT3-class racer, such as the engine-cover vents and side air intakes. Even the interior gets a full competition-style setup including six-point harnesses, racing buckets and an F1-derived steering wheel. Sorprende que no haya recibido cambios estéticos de importancia en relación al modelo europeo, siendo el salto generacional especialmente importante teniendo en cuenta que llegará para sustituir al 207 Compact, es decir, al veterano 206 modificado. Si por fuera mantiene el buen gusto del europeo, en el interior ocurre lo mismo. Se mantiene la pantalla táctil en posición central en las versiones más completas que además también incluirán el climatizador automático dual.
