Con sólo dos fundas cubriendo morro y trasera, esta es la vista más clara que tenemos hasta la fecha del nuevo derivado de dos puertas de la Serie 3. Y lo que vemos es un perfil bastante trabajado respecto a la ya conocida Serie 3, con una branquia lateral, una línea de estilo muy marcada que recorre horizontalmente el vehículo, un pilar C grueso y muy tendido, y unas proporciones que, por norma general, le dan un aire más "dinámico y ligero" que la generación anterior. And now, The General has confirmed that the little EV will debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show later this month.Chevrolet isn't spilling any details on the Spark EV just yet, only stating that the vehicle "will offer consumers the same package that has made the gasoline-powered model so popular while delivering the technology and performance of pure electric power." Not much to talk about there, and the only bits of information divulged previously are that the Spark EV will be sold in "limited quantities in select US and global markets" and that the nanophosphate lithium-ion battery packs will be supplied by A123 Systems. In other LA Auto Show news, GM will be showing off an updated version of the Chevrolet MyLink system that will debut in the 2014 Impala. The refreshed system offers higher levels of personalization and improved smartphone integration. | Posted: 13 Nov 2012 05:13 PM PST  Video: A man and his Porsche 356, never the two shall part Filed under: Classics, Convertible, Performance, Videos, Porsche Our friends from Petrolicious recently stopped by Savannah, Georgia for a closer look at Ken Sirlin's 1962 Porsche 356 Cabriolet. Sirlin bought the car while he was living in Brussels in 1985 from a man who carefully scoured the Earth for the perfect donor shell. Once he located it, the car underwent an extensive restoration in order to put it back factory perfection. Unlike so many restoration queens before it, though, Sirlin's 356 went on to enjoy a little excitement after its rebirth. He used the machine in a few vintage rallies all around Europe, including the Liege Rome Liege event. That was all before he packed up the 356 Cab and moved to Georgia. Now, the little red convertible serves as a daily driver, plodding around the shaded streets of the historic South and enjoying a life of quiet retirement. As usual, Petrolicious has done an excellent job of capturing both the Porsche and Sirlin's attachment to his car. Filed under: Videos, Toys/Games There's way too much ground to cover at the Las Vegas Convention Center each year at the SEMA Show, so inevitably, some cool stuff always slips through the cracks. Apparently, in our rush to cover 1940 Ford body shells and the ICON Dodge D200, we missed this gem. Top Speed found a video of the Traxxas stand at this year's event showing the company's latest radio-controlled car hitting triple-digit speeds on a dyno. In the video, the Traxxas X0-1 tops out at 104 miles per hour with its motors hitting 22,500 rpm. The X0-1 might be a 1/7 scale car, but its performance puts it in competition with just about anything on four wheels. Introduced almost a year ago, the four-wheel-drive X0-1 is an RC supercar that can accelerate from 0-100 mph in under five seconds. Using the Traxxas Link app, you can even use your iPhone as the RC car's controller and telemetry screen. Plug-in vehicle owners are, on average, driving more than gas-powered vehicle owners are driving their cars, and are getting more comfortable charging those vehicles outside of their homes, Plug In Vehicles reports, citing a US Energy Department study concocted with charging station maker Ecotality.Chevrolet Volt drivers are, on average, logging over 41 miles per day on their cars, while Nissan Leaf owners are tallying 30 miles a day. Compare this to 28.9 miles a day for the average vehicle powered by an internal combustion engine. Meanwhile, plug-in vehicle drivers charged their cars away from home about 33 percent of the time during the third quarter of 2012, compared to 22 percent earlier in the year, according to the study. Driving and recharging habits are becoming more topical as more people take the plunge and buy electric-drive vehicles. Last month, plug-in vehicle sales totaled 6,784 units, including a monthly-record 2,961 Volts and 1,579 Leafs, the second-highest on record. Jeff Gordon suffered the brunt of that wrath with a $100,000 fine and the loss of 25 points in the Sprint Cup Championship for his involvement in a crash that doused Clint Bowyer's chances of taking a points lead. Gordon was also put on probation through the end of the year. Following the crash, Bowyer's pit crew ran to Gordon's area of the garage where the driver was climbing from his car. One of the crew members grabbed Gordon from behind, and a brawl ensued as Gordon's pit team jumped in to defend their driver. Gordon was then escorted to his trailer. Not wanting to be left out, Bowyer ran to the Dupont truck only to be held back by NASCAR officials. Bowyer's crew chief, Brian Pattie, was penalized $25,000, while points leader Brad Keselowski saw himself fined for $25,000 and put on probation through December 31 for having a cell phone in the vehicle with him. TV cameras spotted the phone while Keselowski sat waiting for a red flag to lift. Filed under: Europe, Plants/Manufacturing, Specialty, Design/StyleMuseums, Not Motor Shows, Take Center Stage In 2012 Two museum exhibitions, one opening and the other just closed, that recognize a pair of leading design houses, Pininfarina and Bertone, are celebrating iconic car designs that have come from their studios. At the same time, these events underscore the uncertain future faced by the independent Italian design community at large. Pininfarina is being commemorated in an exhibition at Museo Ferrari in Maranello, which runs through next January, while Bertone, celebrating its 100th anniversary, was the subject of a display that closed last month at the Italian National Car Museum in Turin. These two firms, along with many others including Italdesign Giugiaro, Ghia, Zagato and Touring, were the go-to guys when manufacturers the world over needed design and engineering services to create everything from concept cars to limited production runs. But changes in the industry, including massive consolidation of brands and tough economic times, raise the question of whether these carrozzeria are relevant or not. It wasn't always so as both the Pininfarina and Bertone museum displays testify. Chalking up another appearance in video, the camo'd coupe does a screen saver cameo during demo mode in Gran Turismo 5. Out back it's hung with a "CORVETTE" vanity plate that looks Michigan standard but is actually from the state of Polyphony... A camouflaged Nissan GT-R was introduced to Gran Turismo in the same way a number of years ago. According to a YouTube commenter, the Corvette dealership in the game has 17 cars for sale but only 16 of them show up. Our guess is that you can take advantage of the 450 horsepower lurking inside this one after 1/13/13. It laid down a 173.388 mile-per-hour marker for electric motorcycles in 2010 on the Bonneville Salt Flats, and then upped the ante significantly in 2011 with a 215.960 mph performance on that same crystalline stage. For 2012, however, it's switched venues and brought its superbike to the 1.3-mile course that runs downs the El Mirage dry lake bed. Now, that's a lot less real estate than the five-mile stretch available at Bonneville, but the team still managed to achieve something special. In an effort sponsored by solar technology company SMA, and with LSR veteran Jim Hoogerhyde gripping the handlebars (tightly, we imagine), Lightning flashed down the dusty trail at 189.086 mph. That speed gives the company the Southern California Timing Association (SCTA) record for production motorcycles - electric or gas-powered - for that venue. There two significant things about this achievement. First, the energy for the three runs was supplied courtesy of the sun. Its rays fed a 48-kWh battery pack attached to a mobile solar array, which in turn, fueled the bike's on-board batteries. This is no coal-powered motorcycle. Second, though wearing a streamlined fairing, the bike is essentially the same machine that the first handful of customers will begin receiving within the next 60 days or so. Yes, Lightning Motorcycles is turning that hard corner from race team and technology developer to actual manufacturer. Esta es la principal razón por la que la conocida alianza con General Motors se ha tomado un respiro hasta saber qué ocurre con las ayudas estatales francesas aceptadas por Peugeot y en qué pueden complicar el marco de negociación. Por ahora lo único que tenemos claro es que hasta al menos 2014 no habrá una alianza entre ambos grupos. La caída en la demanda de automóviles nuevos en el viejo continente es otra de las razones por las que una pausa en las conversaciones es necesaria. A few creative gents managed to shove a turbocharged gasoline Volvo B21ET four cylinder from an overseas 240 in the nose of a tractor. They call it the "Terror Tractor," which, by some odd twist of the universe, is also the name of a passable metal band from Manhattan, Kansas. In stock form, the engine made around 157 horsepower, which is simply ludicrous by the mightily-geared standards of the tractor world. The creation picks up its peasant skirt and hustles with a hurry, slinging sod and leaving the driver to hold on for dear life. It also does incredible burnouts, sending those pricey bar tires smoking with the drop of a clutch. Yes friends, this is our type of awesome. Las cifras indican unos beneficios de 384 millones de dólares, lo que representa un aumento del 11,0% en comparación con el mismo periodo del año anterior. En cuanto a Jaguar-Land Rover, las ganancias crecieron en un 77% hasta los 488 millones de dólares. Curiosamente la adquisición de las dos firmas británicas es la que le está permitiendo a TATA obtener beneficios importantes y ya suponen el 90% del total. El problema que tiene la firma madre está en el mercado local donde las ventas de los Indica Vista, Aria y Safari no alcanzan las cifras previstas. | Posted: 13 Nov 2012 02:07 PM PST  Spy Shots: BMW 4 Series Coupe spotted sans swirlies Filed under: Spy Photos, Coupe, Performance, BMW, Luxury The spy shots you see above are not of a BMW 3 Series Coupe. Of course, that's just because the German automaker has apparently decided that coupes and convertibles deserve their own numerical distinction, one step higher than their sedan siblings. While we've seen the upcoming BMW 4 Series in both convertible and coupe shapes before, this is the first time the car has been spotted by our European spy shooters without BMW's trademark swirly camouflage - all the better to spot details like the sloping fastback roofline and fender vents. Sadly, the fascia is masked, but we'd expect to see some stylized kidney grilles and stretched headlamps beneath. We're told that this is not an M model but rather a 435i or 440i fitted with BMW's Sport Line body kit along with 19-inch M Sport wheels. A higher-performance M4 version is also in the offing. Take in all the details in the image gallery above, paying special attention to the horrible Sport badges that we pray don't make it into production.
