Automobile reports the monarch of the Volkswagen stable is out to eclipse its own ludicrous performance threshold by building a new Super Veyron capable of snapping to 60 mph in 1.6 seconds. How? The company plans to shove even more carbon fiber at the ultracar while also turning up the horsepower. Rumor has it the machine will boast either an 8.0- or 9.6-liter W16 engine good for 1,600 horsepower, which should be enough to nudge the vehicle's top end from 259 mph all the way to 288 mph. All told, the Über Veyron will hold a 550-pound advantage over its predecessor for a power to weight ratio of 2.2 lb/hp. How much will one of these things cost you? Expect to pony up $2.5 million for the privilege of ownership. The $155,000 hyper crossover offers buyers a full 414 horsepower and a 5.6-second run to 60 mph. The grunt is also good enough to scoot the hunkered-down CUV to a top speed of 186 mph. As we've heard, Sebastian Vettel lent a hand in setting up the vehicle's suspension, and the Formula One racer's Red Bull team helped pen the carbon fiber body kit. Those bits include a new front splitter, side skirts, rear diffuser and rear wing. If you want one - and happen to have more cash than sense - you better get on the horn with your local Infiniti dealer - provided you keep a residence in one of the car's markets. The manufacturer is only planning to build 150 examples, with 50 examples earmarked for the Middle East, Russia and Western Europe, respectively... if you want one in North America, you're going to have to get a bit creative. That changed recently when a Volt-driving friend came to the White House for a visit and let Obama take it for a spin on the grounds. It became the source of a "secret" the president revealed to Jay Leno last week on The Tonight Show. Secret Service agents didn't like it very much, and made sure the gates were shut tight so that the president couldn't race down the streets of Washington "That was my big joy ride. Three times around the South Lawn driveway," Obama joked with Leno. "It was wild." You can watch the exchange below. Conservative pundits likely have taken jabs at Obama's relationship with the car. Earlier this year, they were joking around that the Volt would replace Joe Biden as Obama's running mate. The Chevy Volt seems to represent all they find repulsive, especially the federal bailout of General Motors under the Obama administration, and the president's support for green technology such as the Volt's plug-in hybrid powertrain. Mitt Romney didn't bring up the Volt during the debates - Tesla and Fisker were the main targets. Four accidents, to be exact, all caused by the same thing: wild hogs crossing the roadway. Though no serious injuries were reported, one of the vehicles was totaled. The area through which State Highway 130 runs is ranch and farm land, on which packs of these feral pigs live and breed. Local news reports say the animals have become such a problem that Caldwell County offers a $2 bounty for hunting them. Local police officers even suspected the pigs might cause problems on the toll road, having recorded packs of them (video below) crossing the road a couple days before the highway opened. The problem might also be poised to get worse as night begins to fall earlier and traffic on this new segment of SH 130 increases. Indeed, traveling on the toll road is temporarily free through November 11. If you're traveling on SH 130, the best advice authorities have if you happen to come upon pigs in the roadway is "grip the wheel and keep going." Trying to avoid an accident can often make matters worse. In spite of all that, many have said this was IndyCar's best season of racing ever. The man who oversaw all of that is Randy Bernard, who has stepped down on Sunday as IndyCar's CEO, ending a three-year run. This development comes as the culmination of a coup by some team owners against the group that controls IndyCar, Hulman & Co. In addition to the race series, the group also owns Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Though Bernard offered bonuses that attracted Indy 500 winner Dan Wheldon back to the series, it was Wheldon who perished in a crash at Las Vegas in 2011. The running of that race, as well as this year's Vegas race and the season finale in California have all been criticized by some drivers for the high speeds reached on these tracks. Some drivers, like Mike Conway, even refused to race at this year's season finale. While the Wheldon crash is considered a leading motivator in Bernard stepping down, team owners have also taken issue with the embattled series CEO's lack of racing experience. Before running IndyCar, he was in charge of the championship bull-riding series. A statement from IndyCar calls Bernhard's departure a "mutual separation," and many believe that given this year's success, the series can weather this transition. Jeff Belskus, president and CEO of Hulman & Co will sit as interim IndyCar boss. As you may recall, the show recently pulled off the same stunt with a four-wheeled buggy in South Africa. This time around, a stunt rider Gary Hoptrough tackled the double loop on a KTM dirt bike. Even more impressive, the show went off without bloodshed or bodily harm. The video below shows just how well the stunt went, though it looks as if Hoptrough required a bit of a course correction after the second loop. With commentary from Ken Block and Jeremy Clarkson, the clip is well worth a look. Green Car Reports found two dealers in Sacramento, California that offered 2013 Ford Focus Electric leases for as low as $199 a month this past weekend. The fine print is important here, since the mileage limit was dropped by 1,500 miles from 12,000 to 10,500 per year. The dealers required at least $2,800 down; one was offering a 24-month lease, one was for a 36-month lease. When you do the math, as GCR did, you find that "in California particularly, the first year of driving comes close to being effectively free." | Posted: 29 Oct 2012 01:56 PM PDT  Report: Promising CA racer loses life after major wreck during weekend race Filed under: Motorsports, Racing Tyler Wolf, 20, of Redding, California, was a budding racecar driver moving up in California's sprint car ranks, but an unfortunate accident in competition took his life on Saturday at Calistoga Speedway. On the third lap of a 30-lap race at the half-mile dirt oval, Wolf's car lost control, veered off the track and collided with the outside retaining wall causing it to flip. According to the report on Chico Enterprise-Record, Wolf was unconscious but alive when paramedics got to the scene of his accident, but he was pronounced dead at the hospital an hour later due to head injuries. The news report also features an interview with his father, Chuck Wolf, who said that his son has been racing since he was six years old and has been racing sprint cars since he was 14, and last year, he was named the track champion at the Silver Dollar Speedway. In addition to racing, Wolf also built and worked on his own racecars. Calistoga Speedway's website had this to say about Wolf: We are deeply saddened by this loss to our racing family and want to express our sincere condolences to Tyler's family and friends. Filed under: BMW, Fotos espía, Deportivos Ya sabemos que llevará un seis en línea sobrealimentado, pero tras ver cómo BMW decidía sintetizar un sonido "aceptable" para el M5, muchos aficionados de la marca bávara temían que el nuevo M3 no "cantara" como los ángeles. El V8 y el seis en línea atmosféricos precedentes eran gloriosos en su tono y timbre. Tras el salto te hemos dejado un vídeo espía donde puedes disfrutar del tono de escape, pedal a fondo, y caja de cambios de doble embrague a todo tren, del nuevo M3 de BMW. A nosotros nos gusta, aunque tal vez ya no sea tan musical y metálico como los tiempos atmosféricos del pasado. | Posted: 29 Oct 2012 01:55 PM PDT  Official: Ford tumbles to second worst in Consumer Reports reliability survey, list dominated by Japanese [w/video] Filed under: Acura, Ford, Honda, Lexus, Mazda, Scion, Subaru, Toyota It's no secret that MyFord Touch has had its share of problems since being introduced, but the most recent reliability survey from Consumer Reports shows just how much this infotainment system has affected Ford. Just two years ago, the automaker was in the top 10 for the institute's reliability rankings, but since then, it has tumbled to the second-lowest rung just above dead-last Jaguar. In addition to MyFord Touch, CR also attributes a handful of new products that have had issues right out of the gate. Compiled from 1.2 million subscriber surveys, this year's auto reliability survey heavily favors Japanese automakers, with eight of the 10 spots hailing from Japan. Toyota brands grabbed the top three spots (Scion, Toyota and Lexus - in that order) with Mazda, Subaru, Honda and Acura filling the next four spots. The only non-Asian automaker cracking the top 10 was Audi at number eight. Audi climbed a total of 18 spots from last year, and Cadillac and GMC round out this year's top gainers breaking into the top 15. Helping Cadillac's upward movement, the CTS Coupe was named the most reliable domestic car. Can you imagine how cool it would be if that scale model were a full-size car? Well, apparently the folks at Chevrolet have teamed up with Hot Wheels to create a new Camaro Hot Wheels Edition for 2013, and it's the stuff of childhood dreams. This scale-inspired Camaro is set about to head into production after its debut at the SEMA show in Las Vegas later this week. As Chevrolet's Vice President of Marketing, Chris Perry, notes: "Millions of us grew up playing with Hot Wheels. Offering a special production model of the Camaro Hot Wheels is an opportunity to bring those memories to life, for kids of all ages." The special edition package will be available limited numbers in both coupe and convertible bodystyles. Available trims include 2LT (V6), and 2SS (V8), and the Hot Wheels Edition combines elements of ZL1 styling with an eye-catching Kinetic Blue paint job. Visual updates include ground effects, front splitter, ZL1 front upper grille and ZL1 rear spoiler (for coupe models only). Upgrades also include black 21-inch wheels with redline accents like Hot Wheels of yore. The hood features a matte hood stripe and the obligatory Hot Wheels logos throughout. One of the first 16 Hot Wheels issued was a 1:64-scale Custom Camaro toy from 1968. It is unsurprisingly now one of the most valuable diecast cars among collectors.General Motors isn't toying when it comes to pricing, however - the Hot Wheels Edition package will be available in early 2013 for $6,995 on top of the price of a standard 2LT or 2SS Camaro. Recordarás, estamos completamente seguros, el genial Ford GT, con el que la marca del óvalo nos conquistó. Su limitadísima producción se vendió, y Ford decidió cerrar el libro, y pasar a pensar en otros proyectos. Pero la compañía de competición Matech creó el GT1, una versión de carreras que también evolucionó a GT3, para competir con ella en el mundial FIA de la especialidad, con muy poco apoyo de los de Detroit. Tras sus campañas europeas, y la triste muerte del fundador del equipo, Matech desmanteló el equipo. Pero apareció por allí RH Motorsport, enamorada del coche de carreras. Tanto, que decidió comprar todos los utillajes para volver a fabricar la versión de carreras del Ford GT en Estados Unidos. El objetivo de RH Motorsport pasa por fabricar 20 unidades de producción matriculables en Estados Unidos de este precioso deportivo V8 de carreras, sin haber aclarado la tarifa de precios por el momento.
