Report: Canadian man saves four kids with Hummer [w/video]
Filed under: Etc., Safety, Hummer, Canada A quick-thinking driver in Canada put his own life on the line last month when he drove his Hummer H3 in front of a distracted driver to save four children. Darrell Krushelnicki, 46, of Taber, Alberta, saw a car about to speed through an intersection. Four kids, whose ages ranged from three to 16 years old, were in the in the crosswalk, so Krushelnicki pulled his truck in front of a silver Pontiac Pursuit (known as the Pontiac G5 in the U.S.) to prevent them from being hit. The identity of the other driver is unknown, but the news report says the 23-year-old male was talking on his cell phone while traveling around 80 kilometers per hour (close to 50 miles per hour) in a 30 kph speed zone (less than 20 mph). Thankfully, nobody was hurt, and while there's no word as to whether the distracted driver was ticketed, police say that they're recommending Krushelnicki for an award. Report: Bentley Mulsanne convertible expected to be greenlit this year
Filed under: Convertible, Bentley, Luxury That was quick - it was only was only three weeks ago that the Bentley Mulsanne Vision concept, a droptop take on the brand's flagship sedan, was sketched out for the Pebble Beach crowd. Now Autocar reports that a production version is expected to be approved later this year, with a launch something like two years away. And even though it hasn't been officially given the go-ahead, it has a price: "at least £275,000" ($436,232 U.S.). That price would make for a £50,000 premium ($79,313 U.S.) - at least - over the current UK price of the Mulsanne sedan. Just as the Continental GTC differs from its coupe sibling, Autocar says the Mulsanne cabrio would be unique from the A-pillars back as compared to the sedan. Shortened by roughly six inches in both length and wheelbase, frameless doors and a lowered windshield will contribute additional rakishness, and note the rear fender treatment meant to evoke the fifties-era Bentley R Type in the upper right corner of the sketch above. Tras muchas fotos espía con algo de camuflaje, finalmente este cinco puertas ha sido pillado sin ningún elemento que esconda sus líneas. El nuevo Audi A3 Sportback fue capturado circulando por carreteras madrileñas completamente al desnudo. Sin cintas adhesivas o lonetas que traten de disimular su aspecto final, parece que en esta segunda entrega del modelo (tercera si contamos al A3 MkI de cinco puertas) las similitudes con el que ya conocemos son mayores. Las ópticas cambian ligeramente sus formas mientras que las barras de techo y las lógicas dos puertas adicionales modifican la vista lateral. La mayor longitud en relación al tres puertas será bienvenida principalmente en las plazas posteriores, con mayor espacio para las piernas. El maletero también debería aumentar su capacidad en unos cuantos litros. Rimac Concept_One looks lovely in London at Salon Privé, but expect changes [w/video]
Filed under: EV/Plug-in, UK The Salon Privé is England's most exclusive automobile show, and with its exotic looks, hypercar performance and posh price tag, the Rimac Automobili Concept_One is fitting in quite nicely. And while the upper class crowd in attendance might be able gaze upon it and imagine the all-electric, all-wheel-drive Croatian super steed in their stable, what they will actually receive if they write out a check will be somewhat different. It will be, in a word, better. In addition to a different name - the moniker Concept_One would, after all, be incongruous on a production vehicle - the exterior styling of the customer version will receive an evolutionary finessing. But that's only the beginning. Starting with a heavily restyled interior, practically everything else will be altered. With an eye to decreasing weight and increasing performance, we can expect the 2014 machine to feature a new, lighter chassis to accommodate an improved drivetrain. Although battery capacity should remain in the 92-kWh neighborhood, it has also been updated. So has the suspension. The end product will be larger in practically every dimension - wider, longer, taller - yet, is expected to exceed the original 305 km/h (190 mile per hour) target and, possibly, its 2.8-second 0 to 60. No doubt, handling will also benefit. As anxious as we are to see the Concept_One's replacement though, the original still has some things yet to show us and we look forward to sharing some surprises in the near future. Motorsports: FPR debuts Falcon Car of the Future for V8 Supercars series
Filed under: Motorsports, Ford, Australia, Racing Usually, shaking down a new race car can be full of agony and heartaches, so it's surprising how positive Ford Performance Racing's (FPR) feedback was after its first tests with the Ford Falcon Car of the Future (COTF). This new racer is being tested in preparation for the 2013 Australian V8 Supercars season. In total, the Falcon COTF ran 20 laps around Winton Motor Raceway, and based on the initial tests, FPR said the car performed better than expected during a short session. The car will perform its first full day of testing on Monday ahead of the Dick Smith Sandown 500. That's not all the news happening for next year's V8 Supercar season. We already knew that Nissan is returning to the series for the first time since 1993, but now we know what'll be under the hood of its Altima racer: a Nissan Motorsport VK56DE V8 engine. Made in Tennessee, this aluminum V8 has been modified for race use by dropping its displacement from 5.6 liters down to 5.0 to comply with V8 Supercars regs. Teased: Honda CR-Z facelift teased on Japanese site
Filed under: Hybrid, Paris Motor Show, Hatchback, Honda On September 27, a date that will see us sifting through the action on the Paris Motor Show floor, it looks like the Honda CR-Z will show off its mid-cycle refresh. Honda's Japanese web site has a short slideshow revealing three new features of the next little hybrid hatchback. The scant bit of text is all in Japanese, naturally, so we don't know how the "Life Design Hybrid" is being pitched. While we couldn't make out any words or characters that suggested the CR-Z will become a widebody twin-turbo V6, some LED DRLs, snazzy new wheels and a button marked "S+" have been given away. The CR-Z already has a Sport setting, so if S+ brings a higher grade of performance, perhaps that could mean a few more hardcore bits and a goosing of its horsepower will come in tow. Se trata de la variante más potente del todocamino y recibe cambios en aspecto y equipamiento. Fue presentada en el pasado Salón de Ginebra y debería haber llegado a los concesionarios durante julio, pero se ha retrasado por motivos que desconocemos. Bajo el capó el motor empleado encontramos el motor 1.6i Turbo con 218 CV que también llevan otros MINI con el apellido JCW. Lo mejor del Countryman es que conserva el sistema de tracción total ALL4, un elemento que siempre ayuda para mejorar el comportamiento (mayor agarre). Filed under: Ford, Garaje, Deportivos, CompactosHaz click para ir a la galería.Desde los gloriosos tiempos de los primeros Escort RS200, XR3 y Fiesta XR2, los Ford deportivos siempre han sido modelos muy rápidos, más asequibles que sus rivales. Es verdad que a finales de los años 90, los "GTI" pasaron un poco de moda. Los Peugeot no eran más que la sombra de lo que habían sido en su día el 205 y el 309 GTI, el Golf IV GTI tenía un motor anémico de 150 CV y el primer Ford Focus ST se conformaba con un 4 cilindros atmosférico de 170 CV. Pero el mercado fue cambiando y las versiones deportivas recobraron fuerza. Para su segunda generación, el Focus ST recibió un 5 cilindros en línea de 2.5 litros turbo de origen Volvo que desarrollaba 225 CV. Un excelente chasis a la altura del motor y un diseño agradable o convirtieron en una buenísima alternativa al eterno Golf GTI, el cual se había reconvertido, también, a la sobrealimentación. Para su tercera generación, el Focus ST vuelve con un 4 cilindros turbo de 2.0 litros de cilindrada. Es un motor más pequeño, ciertamente, pero eroga 250 CV. El objetivo de la marca del óvalo azul es muy claro: robarles ventas a los Volkswagen Golf GTi, SEAT Léon Cupra R y Alfa Romeo Giulietta Quadrifoglio Verde. El Renault Mégane RS es, como lo confiesa la propia Ford, demasiado radical en su concepto. Auctions: Oldest Ford ever is up for sale... yet again

The red, meticulously restored, 1903 Ford Model A is one of Ford Motor Company's first three cars ever produced and over the past 109 years, has had only five owners. You could be the sixth owner at the RM auction in Hershey, Pennsylvania next month, but be warned: the last time this car changed hands in 2007, it sold for $693,000. For a car that originally sold new for $850, and without adjusting for inflation, that's a more than 81,000% appreciation. The car's original owner was Herbert L. McNary, a butter maker from Britt, Iowa. Another Iowan, Harry E. Burd, acquired the Ford from the McNary family for $400 for it in the 1950s. Burd had the car restored and sold it to a Swiss Ford dealer in 1961. It remained there until 2001, when it was bought anonymously and shipped back to the States. John O'Quinn was the well-heeled buyer at the aforementioned 2007 auction. His estate offered it up again in 2010, but it was a no-sale when bidding topped out at $325,000. So, what will bidders in Hershey be going after? Model A Chassis No. 30 is a 72-inch wheelbase four-seater, powered by a horizontally opposed, 100-cu.-in. two cylinder with a whopping 8 hp. That's eight horses, probably less than your lawnmower. Curiosidad: Así fueron las ventas de híbridos y eléctricos en España durante agosto

En este caso son los datos relativos al pasado mes de agosto. Mientras los híbridos van haciéndose un hueco en el mercado, los eléctricos siguen sin resultar una opción clara para particulares, siendo las empresas las únicas que apuestan por estos vehículos. Si tenemos en cuenta al pequeño Twizy, el modelo de Renault ha sido otra vez el modelo más vendido alimentado con un motor totalmente eléctrico. Se vendieron 77 unidades en agosto, lo que ha elevado el acumulado del año hasta las 825 unidades. Este es el único producto de su segmento (eléctricos 100%) que tiene cierta cuota de mercado entre particulares. Since Tesla Motors CEO Elon Musk was asked - and responded positively - to help fund a museum dedicated to Nikola Tesla, here's another way he could boost the history of the man who gave his name for Elon's company. "Electricity: The Story and Life of Nikola Tesla" is a planned television docu-drama about the life of the Serbian-American inventor. Tesla, among many other inventions, patented the alternating current (A/C) power generator. He died in 1943. Here's the hook: "In the late 1890s, Tesla's name was virtually removed from history and buried by the Gilded Age's most wealthy and powerful men. Until now!" That's the line that is being used to gather funds on the microfinancing site Kickstarter. The film is being promoted by engineer and entrepreneur Wilhelm Cashen. So far, Cashen has raised almost $24,000 of the $35,000 he says he needs, and the rest of the money needs to be pledged by September 9. Think it's a worthy goal? Cierto, hay un actor cómico que se llama Richard Simmons (un tipo "curioso"), pero no tiene nada que ver, afortunadamente, con nuestro Symons. Nuestro protagonista de hoy es el creador de una productora de vídeo llamada Spirit Level Film, que se dedica, según reza su credo, a crear documentales y material "que les gusta". Da la casualidad y la suerte de que Symons es un loco de los coches, por lo que muchos de sus trabajos tienen algo que ver con el mundo del motor. Y es aquí cuando llego al punto de encuentro donde vamos a empezar a entendernos, amigo lector. Spirit Level Film es la productora que gestiona los derechos de C'était un rendez-vous, el corto de un Ferrari corriendo una mañana por París, grabada "a salto de mata". Seguro que ahora te suena un poco más. Spirit Level tiene muchas obras en su cartera de producto relacionadas con el mundo del motor, y de hecho está trabajando en muchas otras más, incluyendo la vida de un piloto desde que comienza en los karts hasta que llega a ser profesional, y algún que otro proyecto que Richard no nos ha aclarado. Pero antes de meternos en harina con la entrevista, te hemos dejado dos pequeñas críticas de dos de sus DVD del motor más carismáticos e interesantes, uno dedicado a la figura de Caroll Shelby, y cómo se enfrentó a Ferrari, y otro que no es otra cosa que C'était un rendez-vous.Pincha la carátula de cualquiera de los dos documentales para leer un resumen de ellos Pero más allá de sus dos producciones, está la figura de Richard como amante de los coches, como apasionado del motor, y como afortunado. Porque no todos los días se puede tratar con un hombre que conoce a Claude Lelouch, Carroll Shelby (al que entrevistó para The Snake and The Stallion, y que falleció este mismo año).
