Hennessey VR1200, porque ¿quién no necesita 1.200 caballos? originally appeared on Autoblog Español on Fri, 07 Sep 2012 03:00:00 EST.
Gallery: MINI Paceman Concept Share TweetFiltrado: El nuevo MINI Paceman corretera por la red originally appeared on Autoblog Español on Thu, 06 Sep 2012 20:26:00 EST. Video: Brazilian crosswalk guardians pick up, carry car out of intersection
Filed under: Etc., Safety, Videos, South America To promote National Traffic Week in Brazil, a group has posted a video of how it is taking pedestrian safety into its own hands. The Hermann Blumenau Rotary Club is being called the "Brazilian Crosswalk Guardians," and this video shows exactly why. When what looks to be a Fiat Panda rolls into the striped crosswalk area, the eight men sprint into action lifting the car up and moving it out of the way of pedestrians. This is apparently just a demonstration put on a marketing agency, but we'd be interested to see how things would play out if this were an actual crosswalk intervention. The whole point of this group, and the video, is to point out how bad pedestrian safety has gotten in Brazil, especially in the city of Blumenau. According to the article in the Huffington Post, 13 people are killed each year in this city alone which is double the average rate for the rest of Brazil. Check out the Brazilian crosswalk guardians in the video below.Continue reading Brazilian crosswalk guardians pick up, carry car out of intersectionBrazilian crosswalk guardians pick up, carry car out of intersection originally appeared on Autoblog on Thu, 06 Sep 2012 19:58:00 EST. 2013 Hennessey VR1200 makes the CTS-V seem slow [w/video]
Filed under: Aftermarket, Coupe, Performance, Cadillac, Luxury There are a handful of vehicles on this blue Earth that can warp one's perception of speed. The Cadillac CTS-V holds a seat at that table of chieftains thanks to its brawny supercharged V8 engine. Now it looks as if the cats at Hennessey have decided to wring even more power from black sheep of the Crest's stable. The 2013 VR1200 Twin Turbo Coupe ditches the stock block and blower for a 7.0-liter lump and a pair of turbos. With innards like forged pistons, connecting rods and a forged crankshaft, the engine is good for 1,226 horsepower and 1,109 pound-feet of torque at the flywheel. The company says the finished product is basically a de-tuned version of the same beating heart that powers the Venom GT. Hennessey also swapped the stock brakes for 15.1-inch carbon ceramic rotors front and rear pressed by eight-piston clamps at the bow and six-piston calipers on the stern. A slew of carbon fiber widebody pieces outside and a magnetic ride suspension tuned by none other than John Heinricy himself are just a few of the other upgrades. What's the point of such a machine? Hennessey wants the VR1200 to be able to do 200 miles per hour in the standing mile. With a top speed of 242 mph, the two-door easily eclipses the stock CTS-V's 180 mph v-max. Check out the car's dyno run in the video below, and head over to Hennessey for more information. If you like what you see, you better get on the phone. The company only plans to build 12 examples.Continue reading 2013 Hennessey VR1200 makes the CTS-V seem slow [w/video]2013 Hennessey VR1200 makes the CTS-V seem slow [w/video] originally appeared on Autoblog on Thu, 06 Sep 2012 19:26:00 EST. Elon Musk: At Tesla, "you're choosing to be the equivalent of Special Forces"
Filed under: EV/Plug-in, Tesla Motors, AutoblogGreen Exclusive Lots of people are looking for jobs these days, and if you're interested in seeing just how many work hours you can pack into a week, then perhaps you should apply at Tesla Motors. The electric vehicle automaker is hiring like mad - CEO Elon Musk told us recently that "we're at almost 3,000 people" - but they're only looking for people who dislike having time off. Musk told us that he works seven days a week, and his employees, well, they have to work hard, too. Other companies might ask you just work 40 hours a week, he said, but at Tesla, "the minimum is really a 50-hour week and there are times when it'll be 60- to 80-hour weeks." He said he recognizes that working seven days a week is not sustainable, but he does think that 50 hours makes "a good work week." Musk, like all good salespeople, tries to make that extra work sound like a good thing. To wit: "The general understanding is that if you're at Tesla, you're choosing to be at the equivalent of Special Forces. ... That has pluses and minuses. It's cool to be Special Forces, but it also means you're working your ass off. It's not for everyone." Tomorrow, we'll publish the full transcript of our one-on-one interview with Musk. We've teased a few things he said, but we've saved some good stuff, too. Stay tuned.Elon Musk: At Tesla, "you're choosing to be the equivalent of Special Forces" originally appeared on AutoblogGreen on Thu, 06 Sep 2012 19:50:00 EST. GM Europe teases new Vauxhall Cascada convertible, could become Buick droptop
Filed under: Convertible, Paris Motor Show, Buick, GM, Vauxhall It seems like every couple of years or so, some rumor emerges speculating that Buick will be getting a convertible, and the Tri-Shield brand has even helped out the rumormill with various topless concepts. We wonder if Buick might finally be able to get its first convertible since 1985 following the introduction of the Vauxhall Cascada later this month. Debuting at the 2012 Paris Motor Show, Vauxhall gave us a sneak peek at its all-new Cascada convertible by showing a couple partial images of the car with its top up and down. The press release says that the Cascada is a midsize convertible that can seat four passengers and is sized slightly above the Audi A5. With those kind of descriptors, we can't help but imagine how well Buick could possibly do against the Chrysler 200 Convertible. Regardless of whether this car would carry the Verano, Regal or some other name, we say bring it over. Most of the styling cues of the Cascada are cropped out of these pictures, but what we do see is a stylish, Mercedes-like profile with the roof up, sharp body lines and a sporty rear end with the short decklid and integrated spoiler. The Cascada will be on display in Paris, and it will go on sale early next year. If - and that is a hopeful yet purely speculative "if" - Buick does manage to add this car into its lineup, it would be the first for the brand since the 1985 Buick Riviera.Scroll down for Vauxhall's press release on the new Cascada.Continue reading GM Europe teases new Vauxhall Cascada convertible, could become Buick droptopGM Europe teases new Vauxhall Cascada convertible, could become Buick droptop originally appeared on Autoblog on Thu, 06 Sep 2012 18:30:00 EST. Official: Peugeot reveals 2013 208 GTi and 208 XY ahead of Paris debut
Filed under: Performance, Paris Motor Show, Hatchback, Peugeot Finally, what might be some good news for the beleaguered Peugeot. The Gallic brand has let loose details on the 208 GTi, a hot hatch that hopes to do a better job of channeling the much beloved 205 GTi than the intervening 206 and 207 models. Our drive of the standard 208 revealed a hatch that stoked some of those old fires, and on paper the 208 GTi has two of our favorite things going for it: less weight and more power. It has dropped 165 kilograms (363 pounds) compared to the 207 GTi, and its 1.6-liter turbo is rated at 197-horsepower and 203 pound-feet - a 22-hp jump over the 207 GTi, and power numbers in line with the GTi's competition like the Renault Clio RS but a fair corral short of the 280 hp in the Vauxhall Astra VXR. Utilized via a close-ratio six-speed manual and with more stiffness, firmer steering, revised suspension, damping, spring rates and anti-roll bar, Peugeot says the new package is good for a sub-seven-second run from 0 to 62 mph. What's more, hooning should still be prominent on the menu since the ESP can be turned completely off. At launch, Peugeot will offer a special run of 50 GTis in Satin Pearlescent White on 17-inch Onyx Black alloys, with further identifying trim such as the colors of the French flag on the grille, standard sat-nav and a numbered plaque. All GTis will get items like chrome exterior trim, a chequered flag motif on the grille, gloss black rear skirt and trapezoidal exhaust tips beneath the rear hatch-mounted spoiler. Inside will be found Club Nappa leather offset with Caro Weave cloth and contrasting red stitching, an aluminum shift knob, flat-bottomed steering wheel and red LED lighting for the dash cluster and white needles. The 208 GTi will go on sale in the Spring of next year, but we'll get a close look at it later this month at the Paris Motor Show. It will be joined by the production version of the 208 XY, the glammed-up version of the 208 aimed at the urban chic man and woman about Europe. Have a look just below for the press release with more details.Continue reading Peugeot reveals 2013 208 GTi and 208 XY ahead of Paris debutPeugeot reveals 2013 208 GTi and 208 XY ahead of Paris debut originally appeared on Autoblog on Thu, 06 Sep 2012 18:57:00 EST. Nuevo Range Rover 2013.
Gallery: Range Rover 2013Continue reading Nuevo Range Rover 2013. Cadillac ELR caught testing in production form
Filed under: EV/Plug-in, Hybrid, Cadillac, Spy Shots After announcing its intent to go forward with a production version of the fetching Converj concept more than a year ago, all has been pretty quiet on the Cadillac ELR front - until now. We burn for this kind of drama. The long lenses have reported in from the field with the first-ever spy shots of the ELR in prototype form. That's right, under a wrapper of black and white triangles and mystery, is the real-deal Voltified version of a new Cadillac coupe. To recap what we know: the ELR will make use of the same basic Voltec powertrain as the Chevrolet Volt, with a four-cylinder gas engine used as an onboard generator to power the electric motor. In concept form, this Caddy boasted a solar panel bedecked glass room, though the tester here has had its roof obscured, frustrating any further intel about the production worthiness of that solar setup. From a styling and design standpoint, fans of the Converj should feel encouraged by this prototype. The same basic fastback silhouette has made the jump from concept to reality, and the proportions seem mostly intact, too (slightly smaller wheels and longer front overhang are in evidence, but subtle). The prototype seems to have held on to the very striking beltline of the concept car, running in a sharp crease along the side bodywork from the tip of the taillight to the top of front wheel well. Of course, the exotically small side view mirrors from Converj have been axed in favor of a set that are actually, you know, functional, but that won't ruin our day. With this prototype being so fully formed we'd expect to see the ELR hit the market in the fall of 2013 or so as a 2014 model.Cadillac ELR caught testing in production form originally appeared on AutoblogGreen on Thu, 06 Sep 2012 18:14:00 EST. Official: Bentley moves U.S. headquarters to Virginia
Filed under: Plants/Manufacturing, BentleyBentley has announced that it will be moving its U.S. corporate headquarters from Boston, Massachusetts to Herndon, Virginia. The uber-luxury brand will be moving to the offices of the Volkswagen Group of America, in what it calls a "strategic realignment of its regional operations." According to Bentley president and COO, Christophe Georges, "the relocation will allow Bentley to focus out resources on our brand and take further advantage of synergies with the Volkswagen Group here in the U.S." Volkswagen Group of America has been around since 1955, staring in their Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey facility. In 2007, VWoA moved to the VA location. That same year, Bentley moved from Michigan to Boston in a similar realignment. A statement by Bentley at that time had a very similar message, "The move, coupled with a realignment of the company's North American structure, will provide Bentley with an even sharper focus on its key market." Funny how while the places chance, the message stays the same.Continue reading Bentley moves U.S. headquarters to VirginiaBentley moves U.S. headquarters to Virginia originally appeared on Autoblog on Thu, 06 Sep 2012 18:01:00 EST.
Gallery: Mitsubishi ASX 2012 Share TweetPrimera imagen del Mitsubishi ASX 2013 para Europa originally appeared on Autoblog Español on Thu, 06 Sep 2012 17:38:00 EST. Filed under: Toys/Games, SRTForza Motorsport added the 2013 SRT Viper to its extensive collection of cars as part of a free DLC back in June, but with the launch of the Viper GTS-R in ALMS this summer we knew it was only a matter of time before the racing snake would be included in the game. That time has come, as both the #91 #93 Viper GTS-R race cars headline Forza's September Car Pack. In addition to the Viper GTS-R duo the September Car Pack includes some pretty desirable classic vehicles as well. The 1968 Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale, 1960 Aston Martin DB4 GT Zagato and 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR are all on the list, as well some oddities like the 1983 GMC Vandura G-1500 aka the A-Team van. OnStar expands service to Mexico
Filed under: Technology, Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, GM, GMC, Infotainment "Bienvenidos a OnStar." General Motors Co. announced this afternoon that it's taking its OnStar services south of the border and will begin offering them in Chevrolet, Buick, GMC and Cadillac vehicles sold in Mexico in 2013. Services included: automatic crash response, 24/7 emergency services, stolen vehicle assistance, vehicle diagnostics, turn-by-turn navigation, remote door unlock and the RemoteLink mobile app. While OnStar does come with a monthly subscription fee, GM believes the having a human being on the other end of the line makes its service special. The company may have a point. Extensive testing has shown there are some advantages to the service and humans generally have much better voice recognition abilities than Siri, Sync or even HAL. But individual customers must decide if it's worth the price. The expansion of services means all of North America will now be covered by OnStar. GM also offers OnStar in China. Currently there are 6 million subscribers to OnStar. Scroll down to see the press release.Continue reading OnStar expands service to MexicoOnStar expands service to Mexico originally appeared on Autoblog on Thu, 06 Sep 2012 16:28:00 EST. With this prototype being so fully formed we'd expect to see the ELR hit the market in the fall of 2013 or so as a 2014 model.Cadillac ELR caught testing in production form originally appeared on Autoblog on Thu, 06 Sep 2012 17:00:00 EST. Deep Dive: 2013 Range Rover bows in London, diesel hybrid confirmed
Filed under: Diesel, Hybrid, Land Rover This all-new 2013 model might just be the SUV archetype of the future. It's been said that if you want to see what an ordinary sedan will be like in 10 or 20 years' time, you should look at an S-Class from Mercedes-Benz. The thought is that as a leader in innovation, safety, and comfort, the executive sedan's features will eventually trickle down to more mundane iron like your average family four door. The same hasn't always been true of its closest off-road equivalent, the Land Rover Range Rover, but this all-new 2013 model might just be the SUV archetype of the future with its major leaps forward in weight, efficiency, capability and luxury. For starters, as has been previously publicized, the 2013 Range Rover has gone on a massive diet. Thanks largely to its all-aluminum chassis, some 700 pounds has been snipped from the Daddy Rover (some trims save as much as 926 pounds!). Perspective? The vehicle's bodyshell is over 60 pounds lighter than a BMW 3 Series. That's about as sizable a diet as we can remember hearing of a production car from one generation to the next, and this ambitious lightweighting regime shows the way that other SUVs and crossovers will almost certainly have to go in order to meet increasingly stringent fuel economy and emissions targets the world over. Despite being much lighter, the bonded and riveted chassis and bodyframe are significantly stiffer than the third generation Landie, which wasn't exactly a creaking hollow. Even the chassis assembly process uses a lot less energy, and with no need for welding stations, the factory is said to be oddly quiet, too.Continue reading Deep Dive: 2013 Range Rover bows in London, diesel hybrid confirmedDeep Dive: 2013 Range Rover bows in London, diesel hybrid confirmed originally appeared on AutoblogGreen on Thu, 06 Sep 2012 16:45:00 EST. Official: OnStar expands service to Mexico
Mitsubishi drops details on plug-in hybrid Outlander
Filed under: EV/Plug-in, Hybrid, Mitsubishi Another entrant in the Paris Motor Show has been revealed, as Mitsubishi has announced that it will unveil a plug-in hybrid version of its updated Outlander SUV. According to Mitsubishi, this is the first ever plug-in hybrid SUV and will join a freshened version of the ASX crossover (Outlander Sport over here), and the i-MiEV Evolution electric racecar which competed in the 2012 Pikes Peak Hill Climb. Mitsubishi is apparently into that whole multi-dimensional theory, because it describes the Outlander PHEV as "The best of three worlds: The environmental performance of an electric vehicle (EV), the cursing range of a conventional internal combustion engine (ICE) and the on- and off-road performance of an SUV." Though few will venture the Outlander off the smooth tarmac, it would be very interesting to experience the driving characteristics of the Outlander PHEV in electric mode off the beaten path. According to Mitsubishi, the powertrain can run in full EV mode, series hybrid mode or parallel hybrid mode. There is no mention of pricing, and although it is set to hit the Japanese market in early 2013, there is no word as to whether this plug-in hybrid version of the Outlander will reach our shores. To read more on this PHEV CUV, click though to the press release.Continue reading Mitsubishi drops details on plug-in hybrid OutlanderMitsubishi drops details on plug-in hybrid Outlander originally appeared on AutoblogGreen on Thu, 06 Sep 2012 15:36:00 EST.
