| Posted: 29 Sep 2012 05:09 PM PDT  Video: Red Bull releases re-edit of F1 car in Lincoln Tunnel with only engine sounds Filed under: Motorsports, Videos, Racing Just like any vacation, Red Bull Racing had plenty of fun last month when it did a little sightseeing in New York City and New Jersey. First, the team stopped and got a photo op with the New York skyline while playing The Star-Spangled Banner and then it took to the streets of New Jersey driving along the proposed route of the 2014 Grand Prix of America (you know, if it actually happens). Every good trip must come to an end though, so the team heads to the Lincoln Tunnel for the final video of Red Bull's trip, which is just as fun to watch as it is to listen to. Red Bull Racing teased us with this video last month, but now we finally get to see its RB7 Formula One racer tearing through the tunnel connecting New Jersey and Manhattan. The 1.5-mile long tubes usually see daily traffic of well over 100,000 vehicles, and we're sure there's never been such a powerful car (or so little traffic) commuting underneath the Hudson River. The best part is that the car's engine provides the only soundtrack. To answer the latter query, Vanity Fair's Brett Berk polled 13 scribes to see what they'd pick for under $100,000. An interesting mix of vehicles ensues. Some of the choices stretched the imaginary budget to its max while others went all bang-for-the-buck on us, but what's most surprising about the list is that more than half the cars on it are not available with a manual transmission. Of course cars like the Porsche 911, Ford Mustang and a couple of Mercedes-Benz AMG cars make the cut, but there were also a handful of choices that caught us off guard. Jonny Lieberman of Motor Trend chose the Subaru BRZ, Autoblog weekend editor Alex Nunez would love commuting in a brown Tesla Model S Performance, and Jake Fisher of Consumer Reports picked the Hyundai Veloster... non-turbo! | Posted: 29 Sep 2012 03:57 PM PDT  Report: Hennessey releases renderings, details of new Viper-based Venom 700R, 1000 Twin Turbo Filed under: Coupe, Performance, SRT Hennessey Performance is known for taking fast cars and making them even faster. Just imagining what the Texas-based tuner can do with the 2013 SRT Viper is pretty exciting, and it seems like we won't have to wait much longer as Hennessey has released renderings and specs for the new Venom 700R and the Venom 1000 Twin Turbo. After purchasing a 2013 Viper or a Viper GTS (for $97,395 and $120,395, respectively), those looking to add a little venom to their snake can have the car shipped to Texas for the upgrades; Hennessey has not released pricing for either of its new Venom Viper models. Stepping up from the base 640 horsepower and 600 pound-feet of torque that the SRT Viper delivers, the Venom 700R gets freer-flowing intake and exhaust, helping to increase the 8.4-liter V10's output up to 725 horses and 695 lb.-ft. of twist. This is done with reworked cylinder heads and exhaust system as well as a retuned engine computer; all with a three-year/36,000-mile warranty. On the 700R, Hennessey claims a 0-60 time of 3.1 second, a quarter-mile time of 10.7 seconds at 134 miles per hour, and a top speed of 216 mph. If that isn't enough power and speed for you, Hennessey can dig even deeper into the engine and toss on a couple of turbochargers to create the Venom 1000 Twin Turbo. Hennessey says this engine will be rated at 1,120 hp and 1,092 lb.-ft. of torque which can get this car to 60 mph in just 2.7 seconds and through the quarter mile in 9.7 seconds at 152 mph. To accommodate such massive output, almost everything about the Viper's engine has to be upgraded except for the block and crankshaft. It isn't clear if these stated performance and engine specs are preliminary numbers or actual tested numbers, but they're impressive nonetheless. Options for both cars range from aero upgrades to must-have racing equipment like a rollbar and five-point harnesses. More than 22,000 middle school and high school students have been included in past programs, where more than $3.5 million has been awarded to students, teachers and schools. Last year, for example, Lexington, KY's "One-Towel Wonders" team was a grand prize winner by showing how big an impact using just one towel per person per week could have on the environment. Part of the program is based on providing teachers with standards-based supplementary educational materials to teach students about the environment. The second part, which we suspect students can get more excited about, is a competition that rewards action through environmental team challenges. Each of the challenges will have 16 winning teams - eight middle school and eight high school teams. The winning teams will each receive $10,000 in scholarships and grants to be shared among the students, teacher and school. For each of the challenges, teams define an environmental issue that is important to them, develop an action plan to address the issue, implement the plan, and report the results. Submission deadlines for Challenge #1 (land/water) is October 29, 2012 and, for Challenge #2 (air/climate), December 17, 2012. What do Lexus and parent company Toyota get out of it? The Lexus Eco Challenge is part of The Lexus Pursuit of Potential, a philanthropic initiative that generates up to $3 million in donations each year for organizations that help build, shape and improve children's lives, the company says. Stephanie Hawkins was stopped at a light with her teenage daughter when she felt her vehicle shake violently. Thinking she'd been in an accident, she stepped outside only to find a sign had fallen over onto her vehicle. After taking photos of the incident and receiving a repair estimate of $2,791.25, Hawkins filed a claim with the Texas Department of Transportation. TxDOT quickly responded by saying the state government was not responsible for the damage and therefore would not pay to fix her vehicle. How is that possible? According to Texas, government agencies are not liable for damages caused while performing government safety functions. That includes maintaining signs. The ruling is part of the Texas Tort Claims Act and the Doctrine of Government Immunity. In a separate statement, TxDOT said it investigated the claim and found no negligence on its part. While the Volkswagen GTI may define 'hot-hatch' stateside, the 2013 Audi S3 ups the ante, and it looks even tastier and forbidden up close. The centerpiece of the A3 is the new 2.0-liter TFSI inline-4. The turbocharged mill generates a whopping 300 horsepower and 280 pound feet of torque. Power is sent through either a six-speed manual transmission or optional S-Tronic gearbox to quattro full-time all-wheel drive. With a curb weight that is 132 pounds lower than its predecessor, the S3 is able to get from zero to 62 mph in 5.1 seconds. Fuel economy is listed at 6.9-liters per 100 kilometers, which converts to just over 34 miles per gallon, though the EPA testing cycle differs. A lot of the luxury and safety tech found in the S3 comes from its larger stablemates. Adaptive cruise control, MMI user interface, navigation, and a Bang & Olufsen audio system all put the 'premium' in 'premium performance compact.' If you're one of the lucky European hooligans with €38,900 ($50,699) to plunk down, the S3 could be yours. Aunque sólo lo vimos como maqueta en la muestra gala, la realidad es que ya hemos capturado en varias ocasiones su versión de producción en fotos espía durante su desarrollo mientras recorría partes de la geografía española. Este sustituto "a medias" del SX4 (va a ser claramente más grande) cuenta con una plataforma propia, tras la rotura del acuerdo vigente con Fiat para la fabricación en paralelo del Sedici. Pero los costes de desarrollo y producción son muy elevados, y la marca nipona está abierta a buscar un compañero de aventuras. Entre lo más interesante cabe destacar la buena relación precio-producto de la que ahora sí pueden presumir más que antes, ya que la mejora en calidad percibida y posibilidades de equipamiento es notable. Por primera vez el Stepway podrá adquirirse en dos niveles de acabado, siendo el más completo un verdadero alto de gama en el que no faltarán el sistema de navegación, bluetooth o los sensores de aparcamiento posteriores. In Europe, on the other hand, vehicles like the Citroen C3 Picasso are optimal for families in towns where the streets were once farm paths. This funky people-mover was first unveiled in 2007 and has gone on to move more than 320,000 units in sales. Citroën brought very little to the table in the way of specs, but from what we can tell, the visual updates are on the subtle side, bringing it more in line with the rest of the French automaker's product offerings. The free-floating double-chevron logo of Citroen is now anchored by faux vents that run from headlight to headlight. Upper and lower grilles now have a honeycomb pattern, and LED running lights have been added below the fog lights. Pricing and availability have not yet been released, but that information will become available as the C3 Picasso nears its arrival in dealerships in January of 2013. Peugeot, in a sign of welcome restraint, hasn't done a lot to alter the overall exterior appearance of the RCZ, a car that looks as ahead-of-its-time today as it did when it came to market three years ago. Some mild updates to the car's front fascia - a satin-chrome grille, reshaped lower intake and LED running lights - can be pretty easily picked out. The double-bubble carbon fiber roof can now be ordered in a matte or a satin finish, and the sweeping roof rails can be had in black, aluminum and "sand." Four total engines will be offered for the RCZ coupe, with a 200-horsepower, 202-pound-feet 1.6-liter as the top gasoline-powered mill, and a 163-hp, 250-lb-ft 2.0-liter diesel as the top derv-burner. Las versiones que analizamos aquí son las que se comercializaron entre 2002 y 2011, es decir, justo las anteriores a las del actual Aveo/Sonic que Chevrolet vende en buena parte del globo. El Kalos original fue el último modelo desarrollado por Daewoo Motors antes de que la mala situación económica de la empresa les llevara a la bancarrota y fuese General Motors la que absorbiera tanto la marca como muchas de las instalaciones -no todas- y proyectos en cartera.
