Official: Shelby announces 2013 GT500 Super Snake with up to 850 horsepower
Filed under: Aftermarket, Coupe, Performance, Ford When Shelby first launched the GT500 Super Snake in 2007 (or relaunched, if you consider the one-off 1967 prototype), the 5.4-liter supercharged V8 was boosted all the way up to... wait for it... 600 horsepower. Fast-forward just five years and the muscle car landscape looks quite different. The 2013 Shelby GT500 now comes with 662 tire-shredding horsepower from the factory. To their credit, Shelby American has kept pace the past few years, introducing an 800-horsepower Super Snake and the almighty Shelby 1000. The latest Super Snake model takes things another step further, offering up an incredible 850 horsepower. If that's too much to handle, customers can opt out of the supercharger upgrade and stick with the factory 662 ponies. Of course, there's more to the Super Snake than just raw horsepower. The post-title package includes items like upgraded front and rear brakes, Borla exhaust, sport suspension, Shelby-designed 20-inch wheels and a beefier cooling package. There's also the signature stripes, fiberglass hood and an optional widebody kit that allows for wider wheels and tires. In total the Super Snake package will lighten your wallet by $28,995, not including the base GT500, or $39,995 if you opt for the 850 horsepower version. Official: Toyota Tacoma soldiers on for 2013 with new Limited Package
Filed under: Truck, Toyota, Design/Style The current Tacoma has had few styling changes since it went on sale in 2005, but Toyota continues to entice buyers to its midsize pickup truck with various trim packages. Earlier this year, the Tacoma added the go-anywhere TRD T/X Baja Series truck for the off-road enthusiast, and now it's adding the Limited model (pictured above) to appeal to buyers looking for a more luxurious-ish version of the popular truck. Toyota's press release does not list the pricing for the 2013 Tacoma's Limited Package, but it is listed on the configurator as a $7,345 option. For this price, the Tacoma is upgraded with leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift lever, SofTex heated front seats and Display Audio with navigation, Entune infotainment and JBL speakers. Visually, the Tacoma Limited gets its bling on with plenty of shiny stuff including 18-inch alloy wheels, chrome on the grille, fog light surrounds, door mirrors and handles, as well as a big chunk of chrome on the rear bumper. Interestingly, Toyota's website only shows the Limited Package available on the Tacoma Double Cab V6 4x4 long bed that starts at $28,085, meaning that going all in with the Tacoma Limited would run $35,430. Official: Volkswagen reveals off-road ready Amarok Canyon special edition
Filed under: Truck, Volkswagen, Specialty, Diesel, Off-Road The Volkswagen Amarok Concept revealed at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show was a paean to freestyle kayaking, its Baladi Orange hue and 18-inch High Gloss Adamantium Dark wheels on knobbies with raised white letters showing off a wilder side of VW's pickup. True, it was no Rhinemetall Defense conversion or a Colt Seavers tribute, but it was about as far out as the Amarok was going to get from the factory. The response to it was positive enough for VW to put a production version into the pipeline, available next year. The exclusive exterior hue has been changed to Copper Orange (other colors will be available in early 2013), the wheels are smaller and the tires have been swapped for more road-friendly rubber, but otherwise it looks to be all there: the light bar, dark roll hoop, smoked taillamps, black-lipped wheel arches, body-colored skid plates and cargo cover have made the transition. Buyers can choose between two diesel engines and either on-demand or full-time four-wheel drive. It isn't clear if the gauge cluster includes the three indicators for tilt and climbing angles, but special-edition modifications like the matte chrome covering on the panel, two-tone seats with "Moon Rock" bases and Anthracite accents will let passengers know you're ready for the grizzly yonder. Official: Mercedes-Benz adds B-Class Electric Drive to Paris debuts

As a matter of fact, all future electric models from Mercedes-Benz, Smart and AMG will carry the Electric Drive name. A thinly disguised version of the car will be on display next week at the 2012 Paris Motor Show as the Mercedes-Benz Concept B-Class Electric Drive, but what we're looking at here is likely the real deal of what will hit the grid in 2014. According to previous reports, the electric powertrain in the B-Class Electric Drive will be based on a system devolved by Tesla. Mercedes says its Concept B-Class Electric Drive uses a 134-horsepower electric motor that can pump out around 229 pound-feet of torque and deliver a range of 124 miles from its lithium-ion battery. In addition to the Concept B-Class, Mercedes will also use the Paris stage for the world debut of the SLS AMG Electric Drive and Smart ForTwo Brabus Electric Drive. Video: Musk: Tesla Model S production up to 'around 80 cars' per week

Assembly line production has been climbing every week; the interview was conducted on September 13, and Musk said when asked how many cars they'd build, "I think it's probably going to be around 80 cars this week." If they hit that number it would represent double the production of the week before. Tesla's Model S production goal this year is 5,000 units, and the outside estimate is that 400 have been built so far. To make the target in the roughly 14 weeks left in the year, Tesla would need to - as of this week - quadruple last week's production to a little more than 320 units. That's a steep climb, but the numbers so far point to it being still being possible. Musk said that orders continue to come in and the company is working through its backlog, and he expects an annual profit to come in 2013. Official: Toyota Sequoia dumps 4.6L V8 for 2013, claims industry-first Blu-Ray player
Filed under: SUV, Japan, Technology, Toyota Buyers stepping into a 2013 Toyota Sequoia can expect to do so without the choice of a 4.6-liter V8. The big, body-on-frame SUV will roll into showrooms with big 5.7-liter V8 as standard equipment, as the smaller engine has been discontinued. With 381 horsepower and 401 pound-feet of torque, the iForce 5.7 liter gives the Sequoia a tow rating of up to 7,400 pounds. The six-speed automatic transmission of last year stays on to shuttle power to either a two-wheel drive or four-wheel drive system that boasts a lockable Torsen limited-slip center differential. Those who feel like spending a little extra cash can step up to Platinum trim for a rash of interior niceties. More importantly, the higher trim serves up an Adaptive Variable Suspension, which offers the driver a total of three damping settings. For the first time, the 2013 Sequoia offers back passengers the luxury of a Blu-Ray player, and Toyota claims the SUV is the first production vehicle in the world to offer high-definition rear-seat entertainment. El CEO de Ford no tiene intención de retirarse a corto plazo

Por eso, hace unos días se comenzó a especular sobre su sucesor. Pero con la que está cayendo ahora mismo, sobre todo en Europa, parece que el que fuera directivo de Boeing no quiere abandonar la casa del óvalo azul. Los buenos directores de operaciones se mantienen al frente en las situaciones difíciles, y se jubilan cuando se superan. Es una máxima que parece que Mulally quiere aplicarse a sí mismo, y es que confirmó en una entrevista con la CBS americana que no tiene intención alguna de abandonar su cargo a corto plazo. Claro que habría que ver a qué llama Mulally corto plazo... Nosotros suponemos que, por lógica, hasta que Ford no recupere el pulso en Europa, será difícil que Mulally se vaya. Hoy la marca nipona se ha decidido a desvelar todos los detalles estéticos y técnicos de su remozado monovolumen compacto, que a pesar de no cambiar tecnológicamente de manera completa, recibe una actualización estética para acercarlo a la imagen del nuevo Auris. La oferta mecánica se actualiza, además. El motor 2.0 diésel reduce sus emisiones hasta 130 gramos de CO2 por kilómetro con una potencia de 122 caballos, mientras que el 2,2 diésel se va hasta los 177 caballos de potencia. La gama gasolina se mantiene sin variaciones. Toyota habla de mejoras en la dinámica de conducción, pero tendremos que esperar a ponerle la mano encima para comprobarlo. También cambia el habitáculo, que recibe, según Toyota, materiales de más calidad. Cuando nos sentemos en él en París te lo contaremos en persona.
