Nuevamente se ha dejado fotografiar por nuestros paparazzis a sueldo, portando un montón de camuflaje, faros y logo de Twingo, y un enorme cuadro de relojes central. Recordarte que el nuevo Smart parece ser que tendrá un hermano gemelo salido de la marca francesa del rombo. La tercera generación del Mazda6 supone un salto cualitativo y tencnológico importante, apostando por la deportividad y la elegancia por partes iguales. Si ayer por la tarde te contábamos los primeros detalles, hoy lo que te traemos es el vídeo de presentación. While taking a backseat to the economy and job creation, energy issues have been discussed regularly by presidential candidates Romney and Barack Obama, and their viewpoints diverge widely. In its online magazine, conservative think tank American Enterprise Institute broke out the core issues that separate the candidates:Planned vs. free market energy economies: Obama wants more federal funds going toward clean energy, especially wind and solar power, and to stop giving tax subsidies to oil companies. Romney is advocating more of a free-market model, repeating the conservative attack on federal investment in the Solyndra solar energy company that later went bankrupt as an example of how Obama's policies are failing. He would rather see policies in place that promote more traditional energy sources like oil, gas, coal, and nuclear.Energy affordability: The article makes a statement that Obama's cap and trade policies and strong Environmental Protection Agency mandates on greenhouse gas emissions reduction are possibly being done to gain support from wealthy donors concerned with radical environmentalism. According to AEI, "In contrast to Obama, Romney remains wary of higher energy prices and plans to unleash the free market as a prime means of cost containment by allowing already successful industries like drilling to flourish."Energy Independence: Both Obama and Romney agree that freedom from Middle East oil imports is something to embrace. They differ in opinion in how to bring this about - Obama is pushing strong federal government leadership to gain energy independence, and Romney is advocating a free market approach that includes more support for oil reserve drilling in the U.S. The liberal blog Daily Kos notes that Romney's energy policy plan completely ignores the idea of climate change: "Not once is the word, 'climate,' mentioned. But the plan would, Team Romney claims, create three million new jobs. While renewables would get bupkis, the big five oil giants alone would get another $2.3 billion annually in tax breaks." Nonetheless, Romney's policy was cheered on by the Renewable Fuels Association and the Biotechnology Industry Organization because it supports the Renewable Fuel Standard that sets federal standards for ethanol and advanced biofuels production. It's an outlier in the sanitized, corporate-sponsored world of professional racing, remaining true to its unique and local roots. The race has a long history of encouraging ingenuity and experimentation, so its not surprising that proponents of alternative fuels have long mixed it up amidst the more conventionally deployed big blocks and turbos. But this year something special happened when course record holder and defending champion Nobuhiro "Monster" Tajima showed up with an EV. Now Tajima was certainly not the first to attempt a run up the mountain under electric power, but his embrace of the technology after years of racing machines powered by internal combustion engines has to be regarded as significant. The EV movement couldn't have asked for a better public relations opportunity, which is why our sister site Translogic was there with cameras to document the occasion. Unfortunately, Tajima's day was prematurely ended when his car caught fire. Toto Ltd., a Japanese toilet company, has apparently constructed a highly efficient motorcycle that runs on, well, excrement. The project, which has been ongoing since 2009 called "Toilet Bike Neo," made its debut on Thursday in a Fujisawa showroom. The basis is a three-wheeled, 250cc trike, with a specially built toilet as the seat. It's important to note that the contraption does not run on the rider's (*ahem*) leavings. Rather, the vehicle runs on livestock waste, or waste water. The toilet-derived seat is just a rather blatant advertising device. According to a Metro UK report, the bike "runs on biogas fuel (fertilized, purified and compressed livestock waste and household waste water) provided by the Shika-oi Town in Hokkaido and Kobe city." This puts Toto at the front of the clean vehicle initiative in the Japanese market. Still, the Volkswagen-owned luxury marque intends to bring just such a concept to the Paris show next month, according to Car and Driver. The notion of Bentley building a car that doesn't weigh as much as a Brontosaurus certainly strikes our fancy, as the corporate powertrain department certainly has no shortage of monster motors to motivate a more lithe Bentley beast. Perhaps the marque could even make a return trip to Le Mans with a racing version that's more Bentley and less Audi than the old Speed 8. But we're getting ahead of ourselves here, as details at this point are as scarce as modern Bentley owners who could tell you who Woolf Barnato is. In fact, besides the fact that the Bentley sports car is coming, about all the magazine says it that the concept should be the sportiest thing to wear the Flying B since the 1999 Hunaudières concept car. General Motors has chosen to use a G8 to disguise a test mule for the latest prototype of the forthcoming Chevrolet SS. The G8 was closely related to the Holden Commodore and Vauxhall VXR, the platform upon which the new Chevrolet performance model will be based. It should come as little surprise, then, that GM has opted to use the cladding from the former G8. Thought the front clip of this mule is pure Pontiac, note the vents immediately behind the front wheel. That is a distinctive design hallmark of the Vauxhall VXR. Also note that this vehicle is right-hand drive, as the Holden and its Chevy counterpart will be very closely related. That likely includes potential drivetrains. The spy photos of this mule also reveal very wide rear tires, and rear wheels that do not match the fronts. Production of all three vehicles is set to begin in Australia in late 2013. The funky scooter from the German automaker has become something of a two-wheeled cult classic. The scooter made either 15 or 18 horsepower, depending on which model you got. But the most notable thing about the C1 was its futuristic windshield/roof combination and its emphasis on safety - with its integrated seatbelt, it was said to be so safe as to not require a helmet.BMW got out of the scooter game when it ended production of the C1 in 2003, but it's poised to reemphasize that market in a big way. According to Bloomberg, BMW is looking to revive its scooter offerings, which already includes the C600 Sport and C650 GT. The lineup is set to be bolstered by the electric C Evolution e-Scooter. BMW hinted at the return of the C1 a few years back with the C1-E concept (above, right), but it merely laid the groundwork from the e-Scooter. This renewed focus may have something to do with rival Audi and its recent purchase of Ducati, as some are suggesting that the move has stoked BMW's desire to broaden its product portfolio to better compete with the Italian motorcycle builder. If it's a piece of the city-dweller market that BMW is after, they may also have competition from niche automaker Smart. Daimler's urban specialist will introduce an electric version of its ForTwo city car later this year. Smart also makes a bicycle with electric propulsion that is available in Europe for around $3,500 (it's set to go on sale in the U.S. in 2014). This will be followed by an electric scooter. Will BMW's renewed efforts in the scooter market be enough to fend off growing competition in the city vehicle market? | Posted: 28 Aug 2012 02:12 PM PDT  2014 Smart ForTwo prototype shows itself Filed under: Diesel, EV/Plug-in, SMART, Frankfurt Motor Show From the looks of these spy shots, Daimler is hard at work on the 2014 Smart ForTwo, giving us our first look next generation of this micro car. With the partnership between Renault and Daimler finally coming to fruition, the Smart will likely share a platform with the Renault Twingo, and it will come in gasoline, diesel and electric variants. In terms of styling, the test mule doesn't reveal much, but expect the new ForTwo to utilize some of the design cues introduced on recent concept vehicles like the 2011 ForVision Concept and the 2012 For-Us Concept. One thing we can see with this prototype is that the car appears to have gotten a little bigger with boxier proportions closer to the Scion iQ. Thanks to a bolted-on scoop on the rear part of the car's roof, we can tell that the 2014 ForTwo will continue to have its engine mounted in the rear. Según un comunicado de la agencia Bloomberg, el grupo Volkswagen prevé fabricar motores en Rusia para expandir así su capacidad de producción en el creciente mercado ruso. VW se gastará unos 250 millones de euros en su planta de Kaluga para poder fabricar 600 unidades al día de su motor 1.6 TFSI a partir de 2015, ha explicado hoy Michael Macht en Moscú. La planta de Koluga, a 160 km al suroeste de Moscú, abrió sus puertas en 2007 y el año pasado fabricó 125.000 unidades (incluyendo modelos como el VW Tiguan, el VW Polo o el Skoda Octavia y el Fabia). Por otra parte, VW ya ha firmado un acuerdo con el fabricante local GAZ para la producción de 110.000 VW y Skoda al año en Nizhny Novgorod, a 418 km de Moscú. As you may recall, the site recently reported that CEO Carlos Ghosn had yet to green-light the next-generation supercar despite the fact that the model is quickly approaching its sixth anniversary. Now, IL indicates a new version of the GT-R will show up in 2018. Before that, a significant refresh will bow in 2013 as a 2014 model. With substantially revised front and rear fascias and driveline changes, the model should serve as a suitable stop-gap between now and when the next-generation GT-R touches ground. Originally, Nissan wanted to debut the new model in 2015, but postponed development when chief engineer Kazutoshi Mizuno left the company due to health concerns. Mizuno has now returned, and work has gotten underway once again. What will the new machine bring to the table? Nissan isn't saying a word beyond the fact that the company is keeping a keen eye on the upcoming Acura NSX. That may mean the 2018 GT-R will show up wielding a battery pack. Equipado con el motor 2.0 TFSI de 180 CV, resulta 1.110 € más económico que el 2.0 TDI de 177 CV y nada menos que 7.000 € más barato que el 2.8 FSI de 204 CV. Con el nuevo bloque, el Audi A6 alcanza una velocidad máxima de 232 km/h y acelera de 0 a 100 km/h en 8,1 segundos (224 km/h y 8,4 segundos en el caso del Avant). Se combina con un cambio manual de seis velocidades, si bien en opción puede añadirse el Multitronic de ocho. El consumo medio homologado es de 6,5 L/100, 6,6 L/100 en el caso del Avant. La mayor diferencia estética en relación al diésel más económico es que la nueva versión de entrada de gasolina cuenta con doble salida de escape posterior. Toto Ltd., a Japanese toilet company has apparently constructed a highly efficient motorcycle that runs on, well, excrement. The project, which has been ongoing since 2009 is called 'Toilet Bike Neo,' made its debut on Thursday in a Fujisawa showroom. The basis is a three-wheeled, 250cc trike, with a specially built toilet as the seat. It's important to note that the contraption does not run on the rider's (*ahem*) leavings. Rather, the vehicle runs on livestock waste, or waste water. The toilet-derived seat is just a rather blatant advertising device. According to a Metro UK report, the vehicle "runs on biogas fuel (fertilized, purified and compressed livestock waste and household waste water) provided by the Shika-oi Town in Hokkaido and Kobe city." This puts Toto at the front of the clean vehicle initiative in the Japanese market. With the partnership between Renault and Daimler finally coming to fruition, the Smart will likely share a platform with the Renault Twingo, and it will come in gasoline, diesel and electric variants. In terms of styling, the test mule doesn't reveal much, but expect the new ForTwo to utilize some of the design cues introduced on recent concept vehicles like the 2011 ForVision Concept and the 2012 For-Us Concept. One thing we can see with this prototype is that the car appears to have gotten a little bigger with boxier proportions closer to the Scion iQ. Thanks to a bolted-on scoop on the rear part of the car's roof, we can tell that the 2014 ForTwo will continue to have its engine mounted in the rear. El Mazda6 de tercera generación ya es una realidad y será presentado oficialmente al público mañana con motivo de la apertura del Salón del Automóvil de Moscú. La nueva generación sigue la filosofía de diseño Kodo que la marca está imprimiendo en sus últimos modelos. Rasgos muy marcados, deportividad y un toque elegante se mezclan a la perfección en esta berlina media. Se ofrecerá con carrocerías de cuatro puertas y familiar SW -las fotos deberían aparecer pronto aunque ya lo habíamos visto en vídeo-, al menos por el momento. Habitualmente, las cifras de consumo homologadas y de autonomía ofrecidas por los fabricantes suelen ser bastante más optimistas comparadas con la realidad. Sin embargo no suelen equivocarse mucho cuando hablamos de un 0 a 100 km/h (de hecho, en 12 años que llevo probando coches, sólo en dos ocasiones he obtenido un tiempo peor que el anunciado por la marca). Con los coches eléctricos, la polémica es aún más severa en cuanto a la autonomía real del vehículo. Actualmente, el más polémico es el Tesla Model S. Para Tesla, el Model S tiene una autonomía de 300 millas (480 km) a una velocidad media de 55 mph (88 km/h). Fuera de la compañía nadie había tenido la oportunidad de verificar estas pruebas. El organismo federal que homologa los coches en Estados Unidos le puso una autonomía estimada de 265 millas (424 km) en la versión con batería de 85 kWh.
