Among the three concepts chosen from the submissions - the Music Car, a Beetle wrapped in LEDs that change colors to match the driver's choice of music; the Smart Key that can track the status of your car; and a a zero-emissions, two-seat Hover Car - it was the latter that earned a four-minute video showcasing its imagined technology. The video posted below is the same one that was released three months ago, but it's now been subtitled so that we can actually follow what's happening. Turns out it doesn't feature the woman who designed the Hover Car, Wang Jia, but her parents, who take their daughter's creation for a spin around Chengdu. We're disappointed that they didn't stop for kung-fu tea. Most of us are used to seeing doctors driving around in BMWs and Land Rovers, but Dr. Catherine Baucom, a surgeon in Louisiana, showed up to work on a pink kid's bicycle. After getting stuck in a traffic jam when a car accident shut down a stretch of Interstate 10 in Baton Rouge, Dr. Baucom showed how dedicated she is to her work. Instead of waiting in the traffic and postponing a scheduled surgery, she left the interstate and headed to a friend's house nearby to seek alternative transportation. As you can see from the image above, all the fellow doctor had to offer Dr. Baucom was his 7-year-old daughter's bicycle and, for safety, a matching princess helmet. While it's not clear exactly how far she had to ride the bike, it was undoubtedly a challenge since Dr. Baucom is almost six feet tall and the bike is kiddie-sized. After being questioned by police along the way and explaining her situation, law enforcement gave Dr. Baucom an escort to the hospital. Lo único que sabemos es que el Lada Strawa Hatchback que ves en la imagen es de una autoescuela y se enloquece por unos momentos. Mil y una dudas nos asaltan después de ver el vídeo que encontrarás tras el salto. Quizás el conductor se estaba examinando del carné y al comprobar que no había aprobado se quiso marcar un trompo... o bien se le enganchó el pie en el acelerador y no fue capaz de solucionar el problema hasta que tiró del freno de mano. Sea cual sea el motivo, el caso es que las personas que estaban pasando por el paso de cebra deberían dar gracias por no haber sufrido daños. Tesla's stock price may rise another 50 percent or so, but the electric-vehicle maker's steep ramp up, potential competition and dependence on a single model for its success (for now) pose risks to the automaker's future, Forbes writes. The company, which has more than 12,000 reservations for its Model S sedan so far, is planning on ramping up to build as many as 20,000 units next year. Earlier this year, it was making around 10 units a week (this past Thursday, Tesla confirmed that it made its 100th production Model S), and to ramp up that quickly creates the potential for quality control and supplier performance issues, said Forbes. Nonetheless, Forbes has a $41 price target on the stock; Tesla was trading at about $29 a share on Friday. Tesla started deliveries of the Model S in June and said last month that its second-quarter loss widened by 84 percent to $106.5 million because expenses jumped and revenue fell as the company prepared for the car's debut. Big-city parking can be a challenge, but a high-rise in Singapore offers an innovative solution to the problem. The Hamilton Scotts apartment building features unique "En Suite Sky Garages" that use an elevator to deliver cars right into homeowners' premium living spaces. Instead of the car living in an underground garage as is common in most high-rises, these apartments make owners' cars a focal point, parking them behind a glass wall off the living room, as seen above. To park, residents pull into a designated spot and then use a biometric thumb scan to send the car to the appropriate apartment. The buildding's website says that it offers 54 three-bedroom, 3.5-bath apartments and two "uber luxurious penthouses." While the the site doesn't show pricing for the units, CarScoop says that the apartments list for $7.5 million while the four-car penthouse suites command $24 million. El primero de ellos recurre a un bloque de 3,4 litros con inyección directa y desarrolla una potencia de 340 CV. El segundo sube la cilindrada hasta los 3,8 litros y alcanza una potencia de 400 CV. Junto a él se dispuso el CEO de la compañía, Wolfgang Dürheimer, que dispuso de unos minutos para charlar con los chicos de Inside Line sobre el futuro del SUV y su proceso de conversión a modelo de producción. Dürheimer confirmó que, a pesar de que se esperan cambios de diseño, estos serán menores y de detalle, ya que los clientes de la marca le han dado al prototipo un 7 sobre 10 en cuanto a estética (lejos del suspenso generalizado que le hemos dado los medios especializados). We don't typically dig on celebrity crushes, but we've made a special exception for the lovely Katee Sackhoff. As one of the stars of "Battlestar Gallactica," the actress quickly established herself as our favorite toaster-fragging Viper pilot, and her charm outside that tomboy role only made her more endearing. Now she's gone and given us another reason to be smitten. Sackhoff recently contracted the custom motorcycle gurus at Classified Moto to build her a machine. Unlike most builds, the crew had almost completely free reign to do as they pleased. The only stipulation Sackhoff gave the builders was that she didn't want the pegs positioned behind her. The Richmond, Virginia-based shop whipped up what it' calling the KT600. The bike started life as a Honda XL600R Enduro before getting a full work over. The factory front forks were ditched in favor of a set from a Kawisaki ZX6-R, and the craftsmen at Classified used Sackhoff's bike as an excuse to play around with the rear suspension geometry as well. After much sweating, the old Honda was rolling on a single-sided swing arm from a Triumph Sprint. Blisteringly cool. Throw in some tuning by Progressive Suspension and a coiled stainless steel exhaust system by Chase Metal and the KT600 looks as if it would be at home on the streets of Caprica. (Hey, we warned you about the geekiness.) A film crew from Cafe Racer TV followed Classified Moto throughout the build, which means we'll get a glimpse at the full construction when the episode airs early next year. Este nuevo deportivo, creado para situarse entre los TT y R8, fue anticipado a finales de 2010 por el Quattro Concept, coincidiendo con el treinta aniversario de la tecnología de tracción total permanente de la marca de Ingolstadt. Entonces ya se nos comentó que era muy probable que, si había suficiente demanda, aquel prototipo acabara convirtiéndose en un vehículo de producción más pronto que tarde. No podemos decir que cinco años sean pocos, pero estamos ante un proyecto de esos en los que a cualquier ingeniero le gustaría trabajar. Dado que su cometido es más "de imagen de marca" que de "volumen de ventas y beneficios", es lógico que en Audi se de prioridad a la renovación de los A3 y el lanzamiento de algún nuevo proyecto más, lo que en parte ha retrasado este Q35, pero parece que al final hay luz verde para el desarrollo. Si nuestros datos son correctos, el coche contará con una base recortada derivada del actual RS5, con mayor ancho de vías, y con el motor V8 sobrealimentado dejando su lugar para que lo ocupe el cinco cilindros en línea ya visto en el TT RS y en el RS3, potenciado hasta los 400 caballos aproximadamente. Pero antes de meternos en cómo será este nuevo aparato deportivo, vamos a echar la vista atrás un momento. En diciembre de 2010 nuestro compañero de Autoblog, Michael Harley, tuvo la oportunidad de sentarse tras el volante del Quattro Concept por unas preciosas carreteras californianas. No tuvo oportunidad de "darle duro" al aparato, pero sí de conocer un poco más del prototipo y hacerse a la idea de cómo podría ser la variante de producción. | Posted: 25 Aug 2012 09:53 AM PDT  Spy Shots: Next-gen 2014 Toyota Corolla caught testing in U.S. Filed under: Spy Photos, Sedan, Toyota Given the level of competition in the compact segment, these recent spy photos show that Toyota is getting serious with its next-generation Corolla. As the second-best-selling nameplate in the world, the last few Toyota Corolla redesigns have been rather minor, but based on these pictures, the new car will get much more competitive styling. The boxy lines of the current Corolla seem to be replaced with a sportier look that includes a sloped hood and a shorter decklid borrowing design cues from new cars like the 2013 Toyota Avalon and 2012 Toyota Camry. From what we can see of the front end, the headlights have a rounded, scalloped shape similar to the new Avalon while the taillights match the L-shaped design of the Camry. The car pictured here appears to be a higher trim level, with what appear to be HID headlights, fog lights and possibly even LED taillights. Like the outside, the interior of this test mule is heavily cloaked with camouflage, but we can make out the new three-gauge instrument cluster that replaces the current car's two-gauge layout, and this upscale model includes chrome trim around the edges. In terms of powertrain changes, an updated version of the 1.8-liter four will likely bring more power and better fuel economy, and big changes should come to the transmission. A six-speed automatic should replace the aging four-speed used in the current Corolla, and there's speculation a continuously variable transmission could be offered. Since a 40-mpg EPA highway rating has become the de facto standard in the compact sedan segment, we expect vastly improved fuel economy numbers from whatever new powertrain Toyota drops in this car. Production of the 2014 Toyota Corolla is expected to begin during the second quarter of 2013, so we wouldn't be surprised to see this car on display at the L.A. Desde el BMW X6, se puede decir que la marca bávara ha ido experimentando con los SUVs y demás crossovers. No lo ha hecho a nivel técnico, sino en términos de mercado, para ver hasta donde pueden llegar creando nuevas variantes. Con el X6 lo intentó hacia arriba y, si bien fue un éxito los primeros años por el efecto novedad, ya no tiene tanto éxito actualmente. De hecho, se dice que no será sustituido cuando se retire del mercado. BMW también experimentó hacia abajo con el X1. La idea es ver hasta donde se puede llegar creando un SUV pequeño y que se siga percibiendo como premium. En ese sentido, el X1 fue claramente innovador. Técnicamente hablando, la cosa cambia. BMW lo asocia al Serie 1, pero en realidad el coche está basado en una plataforma de Serie 3, además de compartir numerosos componentes (dirección, caja de cambios, etc) y, por supuesto, motores. Pero que esa fuerte vínculo de parentesco no nos engañe, el X1 es algo más que un Serie 3 Touring sobreelevado. El coche benefició de un desarrollo propio, con componentes específicos y una puesta a punto diferente. Con el X1, BMW ha logrado innovar con éxito en el mercado. Desde su lanzamiento, en 2009, el segmento de los pequeños SUV no ha dejado de crecer, tanto en volumen de ventas como en competidores (Volkswagen Tiguan, Audi Q3, etc). Fue también uno de los primeros en osar proponer un SUV premium sin tracción integral, algo que ya es habitual en casi todas las gamas de SUVs compactos, premium o no. Compartirá con los Virage y Vanquish los grupos ópticos delanteros, tal y como era de suponer tras ver todas las fotos espía que teníamos ya desde hace meses. Pero es que ahora los británicos de Autocar lo han pillado sin un solo panel de camuflaje. En las fotos, que puedes ver pinchando el recorte de la derecha, se descubre al nuevo GT inglés rodando en Nürburgring, donde está ultimando su puesta a punto para seguir ofreciendo el mejor compromiso posible entre elegancia, deportividad y comportamiento, sin llegar a extremismos como lo que se espera del Vanquish (que viene a ocupar el lugar del DBS). After appearing in Grand Theft Auto III and the two Vice City and Liberty City stories, the vaguely Ferrari Testarossa-esque sports car with the incomparable handling and braking - but a distinct dislike for curbs - disappeared from GTA IV. GTA V will see its return, the Cheetah prowling the streets of a fictionalized SoCal locale called Los Santos. Befitting the location, the Cheetah's also had some plastic surgery in the interim, shedding its Prancing Horse-face for something akin to a French concept car that did the nasty with a Mitsubishi Eclipse. At least, that's what we think from the single shot we have of it. No complaints, though. As for transport, Rockstar Games released a trio of shots that show the Cheetah will be joined by a fighter jet with a bag of missiles and a bicycle with no visible brakes. | Posted: 25 Aug 2012 06:37 AM PDT  Las ventas de SEAT cayeron un 12,2% entre enero y julio Filed under: SEAT, Industria La firma española SEAT ha presentado los datos de resultados relativos a los siete primeros meses de este 2012 y parece que las matriculaciones siguen a la baja, con un descenso del 12,2% en relación al mismo periodo del año anterior. El mayor problema se registra en España, su princopal mercado. Según el comunicado oficial, SEAT ha vendido entre enero y julio 189.200 unidades frente a las 212.000 del año anterior. Destacan que del total algo más de 160.000 unidades se han quedado en Europa, lo que representa una caída de 17,2%. Sin embargo en otros mercados exteriores como México las entregan aumentaron notablemente (+21,8%). Will trucks be doing the same thing? Maybe. A mineral made from the oxide family has been found to cut diesel-engine pollution by as much as 45 percent and may be able to replace the use of platinum as a pollution-reducing agent, the website Environmental Protection reported, citing the periodical Science. A man-made version of mullite - the oxide - is not only more effective at cutting diesel pollution but will likely be cheaper to produce than platinum, which is considered a precious metal. The discovery was made by a company led by Dr. Kyeongjae Cho, a professor at the University of Texas, Dallas, and may lead to commercialization of the product. The issue of diesel pollution, especially from trucks, has gained importance as more people become aware of climate change and greenhouse-gas emissions. Hoy te traemos a un pequeño pero interesante desconocido que tuvo el honor de ser el primer "Focus deportivo" jamás fabricado. Es el Focus ST de 2002, que precedió al mucho más espectacular (también interesante y caro) Focus RS. El ST se vendió a partir de 2002, equipado con un motor de dos litros de gasolina, con distribución y admisión variable, capaz de girar hasta 7.350 revoluciones por minuto. Atmosférico y tal vez algo carente de "chicha" en la parte baja del cuenta vueltas, si algo tenía el ST era un buen chasis y un buen tacto de dirección. Hoy no es tan fácil encontrarlos como otros protagonistas de esta sección que ya han aparecido por aquí, o que están por salir las próximas semanas, pero las pocas unidades que salen a la venta de segunda mano pueden rondar los 5.000 euros con un estado aceptable de conservación para un vehículo de 10 años.
