Para empezar, en Estados Unidos se comercializan versiones WRX, que en Europa ya no existen, y que pierden el apellido Impreza en el proceso. Para seguir, los WRX STI tampoco tienen Impreza en su nombre, y además sabemos que para la próxima generación ni siquiera estarán emparentados con el citado Impreza. Aunque esto podría implicar la desaparición de versiones deportivas o picantes del Impreza en nuestro viejo continente, los norteamericanos seguirán disfrutando de variantes WRX, por lo que podemos ver. Y es que nuestros fotógrafos espía han capturado en Estados Unidos a uno de los prototipos del nuevo WRX prácticamente terminado, con sus llantas, su enorme boca en el capó para refrigerar el intercooler, y las cuatro colas de escape. Debería ser presentado en alguno de los salones estadounidenses de los próximos meses, y ponerse a la venta hacia finales de 2013 "como modelo de 2014", según la tradición de allí. Here at Autoblog, we've tried using image galleries, stationary camera feeds and even a live stream attached to a Chrysler minivan in an attempt to bring Woodward coverage to the masses. Sadly, none of these efforts has proven particularly successful at conveying the actual happenings. Watch the video down below and you'll understand why. There are miles and miles of roadway with as many as five lanes of traffic clogged with every kind of car imaginable - modern machines and classic creations on two and four wheels from American, European and Japanese manufacturers. Adding to the spectacle are a few hundred thousand spectators lining Woodward Avenue or driving their cars through the traffic. Don't forget that the Detroit Three all have some sort of official presence, too, and did we mention that it starts early in the morning and lasts until well past bedtime? While the newer version may soon steal the spotlight with its upsized set of 148-kW (198.5 horsepower) motors and a slightly larger 57-kWh battery, the original is not going gently into that good night. Indeed, the silver all-electric beauty was, not long ago, spotted at a well-known track near the town of Nürburg, Germany, spending some quality time with one Sabine Schmitz. The "Queen of the Nürburgring," as she is known, wasn't out to steal the Audi R8 e-tron's recent record, though. Rather, it seems like she was just putting the prototype through its paces and getting up to speed, as it were, with the whole electric drivetrain thing. So, what did she think? Well, she certainly seemed impressed with the chassis and mechanicals. But it was the seemingly effortless acceleration and battery-induced low center of gravity that had her saying things like, "it's like floating on a cloud." But don't just take our word for it. From its turbocharged four-cylinder heart to the traction of its all-wheel-drive footprint, Rex has been the benchmark by which others are judged since its debut in the States as a 2002 model. Suffice it to say that the next WRX, due in 2014, has mighty big shoes to fill. Judging by the spy photos you see above, those shoes will be planted under bodywork that's not particularly different from that of the standard Impreza. We'd be lying if we said we weren't hoping for a bit more pizazz from this fourth-gen WRX, but most of its tepid styling - assuming these images are indeed indicative of the 2014 WRX - would be forgiven if the machine boasts more turbocharged performance than ever before. As you can see, Subaru's engineering team brought along a current third-gen WRX hatchback for testing alongside the new model, and a brief comparison shows how much more restrained the styling of the latest Impreza is when compared to its forebear. We also note what appears to be an intercooler sticking further up into the hood scoop than the third-gen model, which could mean a turbocharged version of Subie's new FA engine is underhood. We'll have to wait and see. According to a Fox Business report, BMW has filed a 2.6 million Euro suit ($3.2 million USD) with a Swedish district court against Saab Automobile Parts for deliveries that went unpaid. In 2012, Saab Automobile AB signed an agreement BMW that would see the German automaker deliver four-cylinder gas engines for its 9-3 range. The suit also asserts that Saab ordered a large number of spare parts, and no payments were made to BMW. At the time, Saab was far from liquid, and filed for bankruptcy in December of last year. Though Saab was left with assets that totaled $500 million, the Swedish automaker's debts amounted to $2 billion, a part of which include the unpaid BMW deliveries. According to the report, Lennart Stahl, CEO of Saab Automobile Parts AB has said "Our layers will now go through the lawsuit carefully and see if anything new has been added before we decide hat to do." This only adds to the fallout from the Saab closure. The Zoe, which was being tested in Finland's Lapland region, was subject to testing in the -25 Celsius (-13 Fahrenheit) range and experienced "almost unnoticeable" declines in performance. How unnoticeable? Specifically, Renault said, the car's defogging systems worked well, while the car's power and single-charge range were similar to those in higher temperatures. Renault engineers were "pleasantly surprised" by the performance of the car, which also gripped well on icy surfaces. Renault was looking to address what some say is a major drawback of EVs, whose batteries tend not to perform as well in very hot or very cold temperatures. Or at least they were building cars before violent worker riots forced the factory to close. The plant has been idled for five weeks as a result of worker violence that led to the death of one manager and 95 injuries. The riot was spurred over a labor dispute - specifically, a gulf in salaries between temporary workers and their salaried counterparts who earn triple the contract workers' wages. According to reports, on Tuesday, the factory re-opened with more than 1,200 police officers stationed around the plant. The staff of actual workers at the plant numbers just 75 currently, meaning the police force greatly outnumbers Suzuki employees. The number of employees will eventually grow to 300, and the officers will run in shifts of 100 at a time, but the initial disparity of workers to police is meant as a show of force to the more than 500 permanent and 500 temporary workers who were found to be involved in a July 18 riot. As a result off the shutdown, Suzuki lost more then $250 million in potential output. News of the plant's reopening boosted Maruti Suzuki (the Japanese automaker's Indian branch) stock 1.7 percent. Up to this point, the stock had dropped four percent since the riot. Reports indicate that Maruti Suzuki has fired all workers - permanent and temporary - that it has found to be connected with the riots. The company has also developed its own security force of 100, with another 40 guards specifically hired to protect managers and supervisors. These PSAs were introduced as a part of the "Stop the Texts. Stop the Wrecks." campaign that attempts to raise awareness to the danger of texting and driving. The PSAs show Quinn Fabray, a character on Glee (played by actress Dianna Agron), driving while attempting to read a text before consequently being involved in a severe accident - the footage is taken from an actual episode of the show. According to NHTSA, about 10 percent of all traffic fatalities in 2010 were caused by distracted driving, pointing out that reading a text can distract a driver for around five seconds. These PSAs were released on the same day that NHTSA announced a new federal program that would give grant money to states that have bans against distracted driving and/or texting while driving. As a part of the Moving Ahead for Progress in the 21st Century Act (MAP-21), states that have primary laws against distracted driving can be awarded up to $17.5 million. As recently as a month ago, the blue behemoth was still being talked about as if a final decision hadn't been made, Durheimer didn't appear to show any reticence when discussing what the report cited as "the 2015 production date." The big news is that no "radical redesign" of its exterior is planned before it arrives. That could be wordplay hinging on the term "radical," since reports of a redesign surfaced the same month the EXP 9 F was revealed, and a report in Autocar last month cited Volkswagen Group sources as saying "the front and rear end styling would need to be modified" for production. On the other hand, Dürheimer told Inside Line that Bentley customers rated the looks of the SUV "only a 7 out of 10." We're not sure if he meant the word "only" in humility or sarcasm; Dürheimer has plenty of cheek, as evidenced in his line that Bentley has "solved [the] problem" of there being no SUV on the market above the $170,000 mark. At whatever price that ends up being, the EXP 9 F will be able to go off-road but won't be a devoted off-roader, capable enough, however, to handle Middle Eastern dunes, polo fields and yacht launches. And don't let anyone tell you that Bentley doesn't care about the help, either: the lauded interior, which isn't expected to change much for production, might get optional third-row seating for the owner's au pair. Riding on the success of both the new Honda Civic and the 2012 Honda CR-V, the automaker says its forecast of 2012 sales have increased by more than 25 percent from the original 1.2 million units projected earlier in the year up to 1.3 million units. This all despite having to recover from natural disasters in Asia that crippled its production and inventory. This bullish estimate can directly be attributed to strong sales of the new CR-V and Civic, two models which account for almost half of all Honda's 732,165 units through July. In fact, the CR-V is on pace to "demolish" its 2007 sales record of 219,000 units. Compared to last year, CR-V sales are up 33.9 percent, and with five months left, Honda is well on its way of not only breaking this record but also beating out the CR-Vs closest rival - and last year's top-selling crossover - the Ford Escape. As for the Civic, despite its cold critical reception, it remains Honda's best-selling model as well as the best-selling car in its class. Things should get even better for Honda with the Accord coming out this year and an emergency-refresh Civic due out next year. On the opposite end of the spectrum, the Honda Fit subcompact is down 26.4 percent for the year while the company's CR-Z and Insight hybrids have combined to sell just 7,194 units all year. | Posted: 24 Aug 2012 01:43 PM PDT  Report: These cars are headed to the Great Crusher In The Sky Filed under: Chevrolet, Chrysler, Dodge, Ford, Infiniti, Jeep, Kia, Lexus, Maybach, Mazda, Mercedes-Benz, Mitsubishi, Volvo It happens every year. We bid adieu to some cars and trucks that will be missed, and say good riddance to others wondering how they stayed around so long. Whether they're being killed off for slow sales or due to a new product coming along to replace them, the list of vehicles being discontinued after 2012 is surprisingly long and diverse. CNN Money has compiled a list of departing vehicles, to which we've added a few more of our own. In the slow sales column, cars like the Lexus HS 250h, Mercedes-Benz R-Class and the full Maybach lineup appear, while the Ford Escape Hybrid, Mazda CX-7 and Hyundai Veracruz are all having their gaps filled with more modern and more fuel-efficient alternatives. Obvious exceptions to the rule include models that still sell in decent numbers like the Jeep Liberty and the Chrysler Town & Country (which will eventually be replaced by a crossover-like vehicle). Si hay algo que te da el dinero son posibilidades para poder tener cualquier cosa que quieras. La última moda entre los ricos de Singapúr es aparcar el bonito súper deportivo en el salón de casa y de paso, evitar tener que estar buscando aparcamiento o dejarlo en el garaje sin control alguno. El nuevo edificio de apartamentos Hamilton Scotts incluye dos prácticos ascensores, uno para las personas y otro para los coches. Dependiendo del tipo de vivienda elegido el propietario tendrá en el salón de casa desde dos a cuatro plazas de aparcamiento, estas últimas para los áticos. La zona en la que se quedan los vehículos queda cerrada por una zona totalmente acristalada, de modo que desde el sofá puedes observar tu coche. Lo malo es que este sistema sale caro, mucho. | Posted: 24 Aug 2012 01:42 PM PDT  Video: Fifth Gear headed to Velocity Channel in October Filed under: Marketing/Advertising, Videos, UK For those familiar with Fifth Gear, it's a welcomed alternative if you have burnt yourself out from watching 12 hours straight of Top Gear on torrents and BBC America reruns. The show is hosted by former TG presenters Tiff Needell and Vicki Butler-Henderson, along with two-time BTCC champ Jason Plato and auto journalist Jonny Smith. Now word comes that the British enthusiast program will be joining Discovery's Velocity network and its automotive-based lineup. The placement makes sense, as Fifth Gear airs on the UK's Discovery network. If one were to compare the two shows, Fifth Gear is a more grounded and traditional car review show than the bigger-budget extravaganza that is Top Gear. Needell and Co. still test some of the most powerful automotive machinery in the world, but the format does not tend to include the outlandish competitions and outsized personalities of its better-known rival. | Posted: 24 Aug 2012 01:42 PM PDT  Reva NXR could compete with Leaf in India, then launch globally Filed under: EV/Plug-in, Legislation and Policy, IndiaMahindra Reva, an electric vehicle company based in India, is rolling out an all-new version of its Reva NXR, this one capable of seating four adults comfortably in the small car, compared to the previous version that seated two. Reva, a subsidiary of Mahindra Group, exhibited the Reva NXR concept model at the 2012 Auto Expo held in New Delhi and is slated to potentially launch at the end of this year (after a big delay). The two-door electric hatchback, which will be available with either a lithium-ion or lead-acid battery pack. The lithium-ion battery powered NXR will cover a distance of 160 km on a full battery charge. The Reva NXR is expected to compete with the upcoming Nissan Leaf in India. The Indian government has set up a subsidy for electric cars that are assembled within the country, allowing the automaker to cut the price of the car. The government is still working out the details on how the policy will be enforced, which may explain why Reva has been vague about the exact launch date. The electric NXR is part of Mahindra Reva's strategy of selling about 30,000 electric vehicles in markets around the world within the next three to four years. The vehicles will be built at the company's plant in Bangalore. Whether or not that global strategy includes U.S. sales is yet to be revealed. | Posted: 24 Aug 2012 01:42 PM PDT  Así es el nuevo Fiat Panda 4x4, cazado sin camuflaje Filed under: Fiat, Utilitarios, SUV, crossovers y todoterrenos, HatchbacksLos chicos de Autoblog Italia han conseguido inmortalizar el nuevo Panda 4x4 completamente al desnudo. La unidad en concreto se encuentra expuesta en un concesionario austriaco y parece listo para su venta (14.990 € con el JTD 75 CV). Resulta curioso que Fiat ya haya entregado algunas unidades a los distribuidores cuando ni siquiera ha sido presentado oficialmente al público. El nuevo Panda 4x4 debería mostrarse en el Salón del Automóvil de París y comenzar su comercialización poco después. Exteriormente los cambios que recibe son pequeños, con mayor altura al suelo, paragolpes específicos y protector para los bajos. En cuanto al interior, parece que todo sigue igual que en las versiones con tracción delantera. La oferta de motores del nuevo 4x4 debería incluir el 1.3 Multijet y el 1.2i 8v de 69 CV. Desconocemos si también tendrá cabida el pequeño TwinAir de 85 CV, algo que sabremos cuando la marca informe de todos los detalles.
