Y sabes, además, que no solemos prestarle demasiada atención a los fabricantes que se dedican a hacer ediciones especiales limitadas a un simple cambio de pintura. Pero Bugatti es... Bugatti. Y claro, cámara en mano, en medio de Pebble Beach 2012, no podíamos evitar perder unos minutos de nuestro tiempo retratando este precioso Veyron blanco con toques azules. El deportivo targa alsaciano en este color es un tributo al Type 37A de 1928 (una unidad de este modelo la tiene Jay Leno, nada menos). Tras unas cuantas filtraciones antes de tiempo, Toyota ha difundido las primeras fotos y detalles del nuevo Auris, protagonizando la primera sesión de instantáneas la variante híbrida. Más ligero, hasta 40 kilos de ahorro según versión, más grande, pero a la vez el más bajo de la categoría (4.275 mm de largo, 1.760 mm de ancho y 1.460 mm de alto), con un maletero de 360 litros (seis litros más que antes), y conservando la batalla de 2,6 metros. Así es el nuevo rival del Golf pensado para triunfar en Europa con el logo del fabricante de coches más grande del planeta. Con el nombre de Mulsanne Vision Concept, el prototipo de la "be" alada, que de momento sólo vemos en bocetos (muy realistas, por cierto), plantea una versión de dos puertas y techo de lona retráctil del tome de gama de la casa, el Mulsanne, que se presentó ahora hace tres años en Pebble Beach 2009. Desde que apareciera el Mulsanne en nuestras vidas, Bentley redujo su oferta de descapotables al Continental GTC, despidiéndose del Bentley Azure, que dejaría de fabricarse en la primavera de 2010. Owned by Paul & Judy Andrews of White Settlement, Texas, the low-windshield 680S spent 30 years in storage before receiving a total restoration. This particular car bowed under the lights of the New York Auto Show in 1928 and was subsequently sold to Frederick Henry Bedford. A supercharged 6.8-liter engine good for somewhere between 200 and 300 horsepower sits snugged between those arching fenders. Speaking of fenders, this year's winner boasts bodywork by famed French coach builder Jacques Saoutchik. This year's Concours d'Elegance featured an entire class of Saoutchik creations, including a beautiful Hispano-Suiza H6C Dubonnet Xenia Streamliner. The 680S Saoutchik Torpedo marks the seventh Mercedes-Benz to take home the Best of Show price. The last Silver Arrow to do the deed did so in 2001. Auto Shows, Luxury The arrival of the all-new flagship Bentley Mulsanne sedan in 2010 (for the 2011 model year) marked the departure of the range-topping Azure convertible, leaving the Continental GTC range as the automaker's only open-roof models. Bentley's big convertible program took a huge leap forward this past weekend at Pebble Beach when the automaker allowed a select few to view its Mulsanne Vision Concept, a possible successor to the discontinued Azure. Unfortunately, Bentley refused to allow photography and will not be releasing pictures - only the sketch above, and those in our gallery, are offered for your consumption. On the positive side, Autoblog did see the four-place convertible in the flesh and we found it every bit as spectacular as the sketches. The Mulsanne-based concept features a steeply raked windshield, a chopped wheelbase (about six inches shorter) and two lengthened doors to bring all the proportions in properly (the inside panels of the doors have two latches on each interior panel, so rear seat passengers may open them from the inside as well). In addition to the sharp hydroformed aluminum panels, there are LED accent lights on the top of the rear decklid. The interior seats four passengers comfortably, with a sea of soft leather, polished stainless steel and signature wood. Even though Bentley says its designers are "providing a glimpse into the potential future of the marque's flagship family," we say the Vision concept is much closer to production than they would lead us to believe. Its power-operated roof mechanism (seemingly lifted from the Azure) worked flawlessly, as did all switchgear (including the unique interior door handles) and lights. This year saw models from Bugatti, Lamborghini, Aston Martin, McLaren and Bentley as well as SRT, Hennessey, Infiniti and Lexus among others. The ultimate sampler platter of exotic and concept vehicles saw the Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport Vitesse mingle with the Lamborghini Urus Concept and the mighty Hennessey Venom GT, though we found ourselves particularly smitten with the BMW Zagato Roadster and the Aston Martin Vanquish. This year, they honored the Shelby Cobra both as a nod to the machine's 50th anniversary and as a tribute to the recently passed Carroll Shelby. With examples ranging from the first Cobra ever assembled to the first competition model and the legendary Dragonsnake, we can honestly say there's never been anything quite like this group parked on the green in Monterey. Levin Filed under: EV/Plug-in, Legislation and Policy, USA Ironically enough, even as Washington approved funding electric vehicle charging stations around the country, it dragged its feet on having them installed in the nation's capital. That's going to change, and it has taken surprisingly hard work in Congress to get the stations approved. Last Thursday, the president signed two measures - one that deals with constructing, operating, and maintaining stations in parking areas for use by privately owned vehicles at no net cost to the government; and separate legislation that allows charging stations on the U.S. Senate site. Users of the parking area charging stations will pay maintenance and building fees, so the cost to taxpayers is zero. U.S. Senator Carl Levin, D-MI, has been fighting since October 2010 to have charging stations installed in Washington, and it's been a frustrating experience for him. Driving his Chevrolet Volt to work and not having a charging station at his Capitol Hill home, convinced him to push it through. Last fall, Levin requested approval from the Architect of the Capitol, which oversees the grounds and buildings, to have public charging stations approved. He was told that would require legislation, which he then led through Congress. "The federal government is wisely encouraging Americans and auto manufacturers to embrace the next generation of auto technology. I think we should lead by example," Levin told the Detroit News. The charging stations should see bipartisan use. Sen. We spotted the BMW Zagato Roadster sulking on the lawn at the 2012 Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance among the various other concept cars on display in front of the lodge. Built in just six weeks, BMW executed the roadster as an encore to the delectable Zagato Coupe, and the two share plenty of hand-hammered aluminum body panels. There are a few notable differences, however. The roadster boasts a completely unique hindquarters befitting a soft top. We aren't entirely smitten with the blacked-out tail lamp treatment, though the angular exhaust, flowing haunches and sculpted rear deck are straight winners in our book. A quick stroll around the convertible revealed a number of clever details, including the Z-mesh grille, beautiful two-tone interior and leather-clad roll hoops. Do love. Pues bien, hoy ya es oficial y podemos darte más detalles. El Cobalt europeo estará a la venta durante los primeros meses del 2013 y sólo en algunos mercados de Europa del Este y Rusia. Whereas the Concorso Italiano, Quail Motorsports Gathering and McCall Motorworks Revival are packed with gorgeous machinery lounging on well-kept lawns, the Motorsports Reunion gives some of our favorite vintage race cars a chance to stretch their legs on the world-famous apexes of Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. Organizers say nearly every decade of motorsports history makes an appearance at some point, and the cars on hand are chosen based on their authenticity and racing past. As the featured marque, a total of 45 original Shelby Cobra racers hit the track for the most anticipated race. With 289 and 427 models going tire to tire, including the last Daytona Coupe ever built, onlookers got a chance to take in a rare sight. Even with some competitors' cars pushing past 50 years old, the leaders tore down the front straight at 125 mph. A few cars wound up calling it quits before the checkered flag fell due to mechanical failures, and the Daytona Coupe wound up with some wrinkled sheet metal after an off in turn 3. | Posted: 19 Aug 2012 11:56 AM PDT  Official: Fisker: cooling fan responsible for Karma fire; voluntary recall has started Filed under: Hybrid, Sedan, Recalls, Fisker, Electric, Luxury After two short "we're looking into it" official statements (1, 2), Fisker Automotive has announced that it has completed a "detailed investigation" into the strange, spontaneous combustion of a Karma plug-in hybrid that happened in Woodside, CA last weekend. The result? A voluntary recall to fix the low-temperature cooling fan located in the left front of the Karma, in front of the wheel, that apparently has "an internal fault that caused it to fail, overheat and start a slow burning fire." Fisker says the supplier is responsible and will work together with the unnamed company to fix the problem. Retailers will contact customers and "this recall campaign is not expected to have a material financial impact on Fisker." The fix entails a new cooling fan "that meets the required specifications" and a new, extra fuse "for added protection." Around 2,400 Karmas are affected by this recall. As the latest statement makes clear, and as we expected, the parking-lot fire was not caused by the lithium-ion battery. Company co-founder Henrik Fisker said, "This incident resulted from a single, faulty component, not our unique EVer powertrain or the engineering of the Karma. As this situation demonstrates, Fisker Automotive is dedicated to doing whatever is necessary to address safety and quality concerns." You can read the entire statement below. Fisker is also saying that there is no discernible connection between the Woodside fire and another fire involving a Karma that happened in Texas in May. Fisker spokesman Roger Ormisher told Bloomberg that, "The report for the Texas fire is not in the public domain and we do not have access to it. ... the real root cause [of the Texas fire] is unlikely to be determined." The Karma has been recalled before, at the tail end of 2011, for problems with the battery pack, specifically the battery hose clamp. The aggressive front splitter and serious rear wing help generate 30 percent more downforce than the hardware found on the race-going MP4-12C, and engineers wrung an additional 14 horsepower from the mid-mounted V8. Power now sits at 630 ponies. So, what does McLaren have planned for this monster? The company isn't saying, though it's unlikely we'll see the beast compete on track any time soon. The wild aero work alone is enough to exclude the 12C Can-Am Edition from GT3 competition. Instead, think of the winged 12C as a tribute to the no-holds-barred Can-Am races of days gone by. That would be a new record, as despite this year's total sales number being some four million units shy of 2007 levels, there are far fewer car dealers in operation today. The previous record was set in 2005, when the figure was 784 vehicles sold per dealer, according to the report. Both Chrysler and General Motors shed hundreds of franchises during their bankruptcies, but dealership ranks shrunk independent of that fact.
