Racer Derek Hill, son of Formula One World Champion Phil Hill, drives the ATS into some of the planet's most taxing conditions, television actor and anthropology buff Ross Thomas rides shotgun, and Jeff Zwart steps out from behind the wheel of his Porsche 911 GT3 Cup to lead the film crew. Know beforehand, though, that this is about more than a Cadillac - this is National Geographic meets a really long-form Super Bowl commercial with a ladle full of Top Gear thrown in. It's sunny; the temperature is hovering somewhere near perfect and a gentle breeze wafts by. You look at the pretty flowers - bend down to reach one... then, BAM! No, we're not talking about Bambi versus Godzilla - though we do offer Marv Newland a healthy round of applause. What's we're talking about is the Lexus GS Hybrid. Or, more specifically, the car's Italian advertising campaign as seen in the video below.Lexus claims its 2013 GS 450h can accelerate from 0 to 60 in just 5.6 seconds, courtesy of its 3.5-liter V6 engine and electric motor hybrid powertrain that puts out a combined 338 horsepower. Combine that level of thrust with rear-wheel drive and a professional driver and you've got yourself some fun at the race track. Lexus decided to put this combination together, mixing in a blend of new-car shoppers to see what effect its hybrid sedan had on the heart. Nissan Leaf price cut by $5,000 at two West Coast dealers

Some West Coast Nissan dealers are cutting prices on the Leaf, offering some for as much as $5,000 less than the manufacturer's suggested retail price (MSRP) of $37,250, Green Car Reports says. Both the North Bay Nissan in the San Francisco Bay Area and Fontana Nissan in Southern California are making these price cuts, which puts the Leaf's bottom-line cost, after factoring in $10,000 in federal and state incentives, at about $23,000. That's Meanwhile, Seattle's Campbell Nelson Nissan has cut the downpayment out of its 39-month lease altogether, pricing it at $369 a month, inclusive of a Level 2 charging station. Last month, Nissan cut the monthly lease payment for a Leaf by $60, to $289 a month, even as it extended the term to 39 months from 36 and hiked the downpayment by $1,000 to $2,900. Back in 2011, Nissan raised the Leaf's price. We have to assume that the California price drops are meant to encourage more sales of the EV, which have lagged this year. Teased: Lexus uses smoke but holds the mirrors for 2013 LS teaser
Filed under: Sedan, Lexus, Luxury Guess what, folks? It's teaser time again! This time, it's the 2013 Lexus LS sedan that's being given the painfully slow reveal treatment on Facebook. We know that the next LS will get its official debut on Monday, July 30, which means there's 11 more days of potential teasing to go. Strap in. Judging from the smoky image above, we can expect a mostly traditional silhouette from the 2013 LS, with perhaps a bit more rake than the outgoing model. We're almost certainly going to see a so-called spindle grille to match the faces of Lexus' other recent models, and we're thinking there may be standard, hybrid and F Sport models on tap. We tried playing with the teaser photo to eke out more details, but sadly there's not much else to see. Video: Mario Kart meets F1 in new Codemasters game
Filed under: Motorsports, Videos, Toys/Games Where better than Comic-Con for Codemasters to announce the deceptively titled F1 Race Stars. A 180-degree hairpin from the other Codemasters F1 game, this is less about the stars and much more about the wild, arcade-style racing with weapons and bonuses on "fantastical" versions of real Formula One tracks. It looks like McLaren's Tooned as a video game, with more drivers and cars. As for those stars, your driver lineup will be Fernando Alonso, Lewis Hamilton, Sebastien Vettel, Nico Rosberg, Romain Grosjean and - eyebrows raised here - Bruno Senna. There'll be lots of arcade options like online racing with up to 12 players, split screens with up to four players, and carerr modes. It's arriving in November for PCs, Playstation and xBox 360. Video: Inventor creatively side-steps pickup problem

While Ford offers a pickup bed step that slides out of the top of the tailgate on its F-150, that particular step can't be used when towing. Now, one man has devised his own step that slides out of the side of the tailgate. Myron Isaacson recently received the patent on his pickup bed ladder, affectionately named "My Dream Steps," according to a local news report. It works in a similar manner as the Ford bed step, allowing a person to climb into a high pickup bed without grinding their knees against the truck's steel. Because this step works from the side of the tailgate, Isaacson's invention allows the truck owner to climb into the bed even if the truck has a trailer attached. The new assembly looks pretty compact and easy to use, and he's already won an award for its design. At this year's Minnesota Inventors Congress, Isaacson netted a gold medal.
