Filed under: Fiat, SUV, crossovers y todoterrenosLo probamos para ti hace un par de semanas en Turín, si recuerdas, pero por entonces volvimos sin tarifa de precios o equipamientos para el mercado español. Pero ayer Fiat resolvió todas nuestras dudas de la gama del 500L para España durante una presentación en Madrid. Lo primero que recalcaron los chicos de la marca italiana es el posicionamiento "cruzado" entre varios segmentos del nuevo 500L, que ofrece, para que te hagas una idea, espacio en el maletero superior al de modelos como el Countryman o el Golf, al tiempo que también cuenta con unas espaciosas plazas traseras "aptas para tres adultos", que yo dejaría en cómodas para dos de cara a trayectos largos. Lo cierto es que el coche es un buen punto intermedio entre un segmento B y un C, donde el espacio exterior que ocupa es contenido, pero no sacrifica espacio interior por ello. En ese sentido es "muy Panda", en tanto en cuanto es un coche versátil, capaz, útil, introducido en una carcasa de tamaño compacto. Nürburgring Automotive Gmbh, ahora sí, se declara en bancarrota

Era de esperar, pero como te adelantamos ayer, todavía no era oficial: Nürburgring Automotive Gmbh (NAG, en adelante), la operadora de las instalaciones del circuito de Nürburgring, el palacio de congresos anexo, el hotel, la galería, la montaña rusa y el Nordschleife, se ha declarado en bancarrota. Esta declaración sucedía ayer a las 10:30 de la mañana, y venía de boca del gobierno local del estado donde se asientan las instalaciones (Renania Platinado), que se había hecho cargo de NAG tras expulsar a los propietarios particulares por su mala gestión y las dudas sobre la malversación de fondos. La declaración en bancarrota viene a consecuencia de la negativa de la UE a que Alemania inyectara más dinero público en las instalaciones cuando todavía no se ha aclarado que ocurrió con el anteriormente dispuesto. De momento algunas unidades han sido cazadas mientras realizaban diversos test, siendo en esta ocasión la variante más esperada y prestacional la que se ha llevado el protagonismo: el M4. No hace falta ser excesivamente bueno en esto de las imágenes espía para comprobar cómo esta unidad no es "una cualquiera". Tanto el ancho de vías como las cuatro salidas de escape o las enormes llantas de aleación (que dejan ver unos discos de freno de dimensiones considerables) nos adelantan que al M4 ya le va faltando menos. Antes de que sea presentado en configuración normal, BMW debería tener listo el nuevo M3 sobre la carrocería sedán F30 con un motor de seis cilindros sobrealimentado. That said, Renault has released the second of its so-called "Challenge Us If You Can" videos, this time filmed at the iconic Nürburgring Nordschleife, featuring two beautiful women (one of whom is talented racer and French television presenter Margot Laffite, the other of whom is known only as Jenny, The Glam Passenger), one Red Bull Racing RB7 Renault Twingo R.S. and one rather hapless goldfish named Red Bubulle in a big glass fishbowl. Nissan dealing with charges of Leaf battery problems in Arizona [w/video]
Filed under: EV/Plug-in, Nissan Some hot Arizona weather is cooling some Nissan Leaf owners' enthusiasm for their electric vehicles. Nissan is addressing complaints from five Arizona owners of Leafs who say the electric vehicles are losing battery capacity at a faster rate than advertised, reported KPHO, CBS's Phoenix affiliate. Mark Perry, Nissan's director of product planning, told KPHO that the automaker is investigating complaints from drivers who say the region's heat is draining the EVs' battery capacity. One Arizona driver said his single-charge driving range is down to 44 miles from about 90 miles a year ago, while another says that three of the car's 12 battery-capacity indicator lights are already out, according to KPHO. The forums at MyNissanLeaf.com indicate similar complaints have been recorded in other parts of Arizona, Texas and California. A table of battery capacity losses is being kept online here. Nissan North America Director of Product Planning Mark Perry said in a recent video, "Heat is definitely not a friend of batteries. But I'm talking about severe 130-, 140-degree Fahrenheit kind of heat... Don't park your Nissan Leaf - or any electric vehicle - where it's going to be more than 120 or 130 degrees." We contacted Nissan regarding the issue of reduced capacity in hot climes and received this response from spokesman John Schilling: "We are aware of the handful of customers that are concerned; we are studying their individual situations and experiences." Last month, Nissan reiterated that the Leaf battery should have about 80 percent of its original capacity after five years of use, and stating that any capacity-deterioration incidents were "isolated." It's interesting to note that the issue of the Leaf battery's lack of an active thermal management solution was brought up way back in January of 2010. At the time, Nissan's Perry said, "We don't need thermal management in the U.S. ... We've gone on record saying that the pack has a 70 to 80 percent capacity after 10 years." Regardless, such complaints spell bad news for the Leaf, whose sales have lagged this year as the Japanese automaker prepares to move domestic production to its Tennessee plant. Through June, Nissan sold 3,148 Leafs in the U.S. in 2012, down 19 percent from year-to-date numbers for 2011. As you'll see in the video below, however, Nissan's warranty only covers the output of the Leaf's battery pack, not its capacity. Where that leaves heat-drenched Leaf owners remains to be seen. The CBS affiliate in Phoenix reports that a growing number of the area's Leaf owners have lost large chunks of battery capacity, and the forums at MyNissanLeaf.com indicate that similar complaints have been recorded in other parts of Arizona, Texas and California. A table of battery capacity losses is being kept online here. We contacted Nissan regarding the issue of reduced capacity in hot climes and received this response from spokesman John Schilling: "We are aware of the handful of customers that are concerned; we are studying their individual situations and experiences." Kandi EV gets 20,000 orders in Hangzhou, China

In this case, Kandi Technologies has received a huge EV distribution agreement with the city of Hangzhou that will see 20,000 vehicles leased throughout the city in an effort to test vehicle-to-grid technology. As part of the agreement, China Aviation Lithium Battery Co. will provide the EV's batteries, while the electricity will be supplied for free by local utilities. Leasing will start next month and will conclude by the end of 2013. Hangzhou is located about 110 miles southwest of Shanghai. The city is the capital of Zhejiang Province. Kandi's EVs have a top speed of about 25 miles per hour and weigh about 1,600 pounds. Forbes estimated that Kandi Technologies will make about $6,800 per vehicle during the duration of the leasing period. The Chinese government wants to have a half-millon EVs on China's roads by 2015 and 5 million by the end of the decade. With the Saab brand now dormant and little hope for a true renaissance, save for one that comes in name only, Saab's future must lie in the celebration of great cars of its past. And what better way to celebrate the wonderful Saab 900 than to chop it in half and turn it into a freaking limousine? Claimed to have been built by a Denver area Saab specialist, this five-speed manual 900 Turbo is listed with a Buy It Now of $8,500. It's actually surprisingly well turned-out, too, with a pretty decent interior that sticks to real Saab seats, avoiding the crushed-velvet or button-festooned lounge chair look. While this seems rather spendy for a well-used limousine, good luck finding another one like it. And besides, that's a lot less than the $12,500 asking price from back in 2010. Official: Honda reveals new cloud-based infotainment system [w/video]

The new midsize sedan doesn't launch until the fall, but the Japanese automaker is clearly eager to start building momentum for its long-awaited new model by addressing one of the company's long-running deficiencies: connectivity. HondaLink will feature Aha Radio, a cloud-based digital content service that uses the driver's smart phone data connection for streaming through the vehicle's audio system. The interface uses a radio station model, with users creating content presets. Besides music, news, podcasts and other traditional audio content, Aha will allow drivers to listen to Facebook and Twitter feeds. While the video Honda released today plays more like a commercial than a tutorial, we're looking forward to getting our hands on the system. The couple, Jeremy and Jamie Brown, pleaded not guilty to human trafficking charges Friday after they allegedly traded a 1999 Dodge Dakota to Heather Kaminsky for her newborn in January. Jamie Brown and Kaminsky were childhood friends. Police told the media that Kaminsky had her two previous children taken away from her home by Social Services in Florida, and they believe that's why she moved to Kentucky to have this child. But after having the child, Kaminsky decided to trade the baby boy for the pickup. She then sold the pickup for $800 and some meth, according to police. "I honestly believe they had the best intentions," said Lt. Rodney Van Zant of the Laurel County Sheriff's Department. "But the way they went about it was the wrong way." The child was reported in good health. Kaminsky remains at large. Seat testing three electric cars in Barcelona (yes, just three)

The Barcelona City Hall will use its all-electric vehicle in its municipal car fleet for the next six months, and Seat will get information about how the cars are working and "assess performance prior to mass production of electric vehicles." A note to our long-time readers: we apologize if this sounds like a rehash from the 2008 AutoblogGreen archives. Still, something electric is better than nothing, and Seat is at least pushing its home auto industry forward (we hear Spain has a somewhat big financial problem going on these days, too). Ramon Paredes, Seat's executive vice president for governmental and institutional relations, said in a statement that, "we are the only brand with the capacity to think through, develop and produce an electric vehicle in Spain." Aside from city hall, Endesa and the Catalan Energy Institute (ICAEN) will each get an e-Altea (as well as a Leon TwinDrive Ecomotive) for testing. The e-Altea can go up to 84 miles an hour and has a range of 84 miles. There are solar panels on the roof to help cool the cabin, but not to help power the vehicle. Spy Shots: Here's your first look at the BMW 3 Series coupe, in M4 guise
Filed under: Spy Photos, Coupe, Performance, BMW As we all look forward to the F30 2012 BMW 3 Series spawning its forthcoming coupe bodystyle as well as a new M3, today's treat is a bit of both. Our spy shooters caught this car testing in Europe, which is clearly an M version of the 3 Series coupe. The wheels and quad exhaust are a dead giveaway that this is no ordinary 3, and of course, the scuttlebutt is that BMW is going to call the 3 Series coupe the 4 Series, making the M3 replacement actually the M4. BMW has reportedly confirmed that the current M3's V8 is going to be replaced with a turbo'ed inline six in the F30 M cars. The expectation is that the M3 will launch before the M4, given that BMW has yet to even bring the 4 Series to market. Básicamente es el K9 que todos conocemos, pero adaptado a los gustos de los nuevos consumidores. Esta berlina de 5,09 metros de longitud ya nos han confirmado desde Kia España no se venderá en Europa, aunque sí podrá adquirirse en Australia, Estados Unidos o Rusia. Official: Ex-BMW styling boss Chris Bangle gets Lifetime Achievement from Eyes On Design [w/video]
Filed under: Videos, BMW, Design/Style Even to casual car enthusiasts, Chris Bangle needs no introduction. One of the most controversial designers of all time, the "Bangle Butt" redesign of the BMW 7 Series is still hotly debated even today. Introduced in 2002 during Bangle's tenure as chief designer at BMW, the E65 7 Series only began to develop Bangle's new design language for BMW, later dubbed "flame surfacing." Whether you love or hate his work - and there seems to be no middle ground - the man's influence is undeniable. Many manufacturers have since borrowed aspects of his designs for their own vehicles. It's only fitting, then, that the 25th anniversary Eyes On Design car show should award Bangle its prestigious Lifetime Design Achievement Award. Held each summer at the Edsel and Eleanor Ford House just outside Detroit in Grosse Pointe Shores, Eyes On Design is a real insiders club, in that only those designers who have won the Lifetime Design Achievement Award are eligible to vote. While we knew Bangle would be receiving this award from his peers since November 2011, the actual ceremony was held this past weekend at the Detroit Yacht Club. Retired Ford designer Jack Telnack, General Motors design chief Ed Welburn, and Ford director of exterior design Joel Piaskowski were among those who spoke. Bangle joins a pretty famous crew of past award winners, including Italian design legends Giorgetto Giugiaro and the recently deceased Sergio Pininfarina, William "Willy" G.
