To the Tumbler Golfmobile! Vídeo: Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT, a prueba
Gallery: Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 2012Continue reading Vídeo: Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT, a pruebaVídeo: Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT, a prueba originally appeared on Autoblog Español on Tue, 17 Jul 2012 03:33:00 EST. Video: Official Batmobile documentary cometh
Filed under: Classics, Etc., Videos, Celebrities, Specialty, Design/Style A new documentary is setting out to discern exactly where Batman gets his wonderful toys - more specifically, the Batmobile. The film will feature interviews with notable Batman movie directors including Chris Nolan, Joel Schumacher and Tim Burton, as well as actors like Christian Bale and even Adam West. From the looks of things, the documentary delves into every aspect of the Batmobile's evolution, from the early comics to the animated series and everything in between. With plenty of in-movie footage and words from stunt drivers and creators like George Barris, this looks to be the final word on epic transportation in Gotham City. Visitors to this year's Comic-Con were treated to a special preview of the film, though the rest of us will have to wait until the holiday season to get a hold of either the digital download or a Blu-ray copy. In the meantime, you can check out a pretty nifty trailer for the Batmobile documentary below.Continue reading Official Batmobile documentary comethOfficial Batmobile documentary cometh originally appeared on Autoblog on Mon, 16 Jul 2012 19:58:00 EST. Rally racer Bill Caswell drives EV West's electric BMW M3, loves it!
Filed under: EV/Plug-in, Green Culture, BMW, Racing, Videos EV West is due to race its awesomely awesome converted BMW M3 in the upcoming Pikes Peak International Hill Climb on August 12. With a bit of unexpected time on its hands - the event was delayed due to the recent Colorado wildfires - the outfit tossed the keys to one Bill Caswell to let him discover what 420 or so electric ponies feels like. Now, Caswell is a rally racer who, outside of golf carts, had never driven an electric vehicle before. With a little bit of guidance through the start-up process, however, he was soon making his way down the streets of San Diego. Initially impressed by the smooth power delivery, his grin grew to a broad smile, interrupted by outbursts of "Oh My God!" and "It just surges!" as the adrenaline and electrons flowed freely through their respective systems. While we can't predict whether the car will come out on top in its maiden "race to the clouds", we are pretty certain of one thing: the driver is going to enjoy the ride. Scroll on down to watch one gearhead's entertaining conversion experience.Continue reading Rally racer Bill Caswell drives EV West's electric BMW M3, loves it!Rally racer Bill Caswell drives EV West's electric BMW M3, loves it! originally appeared on AutoblogGreen on Mon, 16 Jul 2012 19:53:00 EST. Motorsports: Travis Pastrana, Dodge Dart get first RallyCross win [w/video]
Filed under: Motorsports, Dodge, RacingTravis Pastrana has had a tough start to 2012, wrecking out of nearly every race he's entered. The Global RallyCross Championship has been particularly frustrating, with the Red Bull Motorsports driver finishing 8th and 15th in the first two events of the season and failing to make its past the first round of the X Games after getting smashed into the wall in the first turn. Pastrana hopes his fortunes have turned around, though, after managing to give the Dodge Dart its first RallyCross win at New Hampshire Motor Speedway this past weekend. He qualified third overall and managed to win his heat, giving him a spot on the front row for the final race. Pastrana took advantage of his position, jumping out to a first lap lead after passing Tanner Foust in a hairpin and eventually finishing just ahead of Samuel Hubinette. Brian Deegan rounded out the podium in third place, with Foust finishing in fourth and Ken Block in fifth. "It's been so long, I almost forgot what it's like to win," said Pastrana after the race. "It is absolutely awesome to get out here and get on top. It has been a rough season." The next and final race of the 2012 Global RallyCross season will be at Las Vegas Motor Speedway over the weekend of September 28-29. Check out the videos below for all the leaps, jumps and bumps.Continue reading Travis Pastrana, Dodge Dart get first RallyCross win [w/video]Travis Pastrana, Dodge Dart get first RallyCross win [w/video] originally appeared on Autoblog on Mon, 16 Jul 2012 19:31:00 EST. ETC: Why are Saudi youths mounting cars on brick plinths?
Filed under: Etc., Middle East, Design/Style We're not going to pretend that everything American kids do with their cars makes sense. Ghost riding, tray sliding and soaping sayings like "Sexy Seniors 2012 XOXOXO!!!" on car windows comes to mind. To be young and a car owner (or car borrower, in the case of most kids) often means doing strange and stupid stuff with your ride, and this rite of passage appears to cross all cultures. These images of Saudi youths mounting their cars on brick plinths appeared online this morning without much context to explain why they're doing it or even how. The wire images only come with a caption that reads... Saudi youths lift their sport utility vehicle (SUV) with stones and bricks in the tourist area of al-Habla 50km south of the city of Abha in the southern part of the kingdom on July 12, 2012. Young Saudi males gather in al-Habla for a summer camp to escape the blazing Gulf summer heat and spend time mounting their cars on display. They're at summer camp, so perhaps a badge for car mounting is at stake, or maybe this is the best way to prevent the sweltering Arabian sun from melting their tires. Toyota models of every vintage and description appear to be the favorites, but there are also Mitsubishi and Mazda models getting the stonework treatment. Regardless of the reason, the sight brings us back to our own youth when driving a car was license enough to do something silly with it. Check out more of this bizarre pastime in our high-res gallery. Why are Saudi youths mounting cars on brick plinths? originally appeared on Autoblog on Mon, 16 Jul 2012 19:00:00 EST. Official: New Seat León brings all-new design, more tech and "Enjoyneering" [w/video]
Filed under: Europe, Videos, Hatchback, SEAT, Design/Style Not long after the Seat Toledo got its public groove on, the Seat León is here to say hello from all angles. This is the third generation of the little Spanish hatchback, and while its overall form copies its predecessor, its details prove it to be a brand-new car. Built on the MQB platform spreading like kudzu throughout the Volkswagen empire, the new Leon is nearly 200 pounds lighter than previously and five centimeters shorter, but the front axle has been moved forward making the wheelbase around 2.3-inches longer. More interior space and luggage room is the benefit compared to the last-generation hatch. The body has been completely redesigned with heaps more sculpting throughout and giveaways like the polygonal headlights - available in full LED - plus wedge taillights, shorter overhangs and redesigned Seat logo front and back giving away the new model. Emphasizing the sportiness of the new model, the driver is made the focus of the floating, two-tone dash inside. Driver aids include Seat Drive Profile to tailor the car's characteristics, three different options in infotainment systems, drowsiness detection, Full Beam Assistant and lane-keeping assistant. As per usual with a VW Group product, the engine options will be plentiful, all of them turbocharged and direct-injected and boosting fuel economy by up to 22 percent. Two will come at launch, a 1.6-liter TDI Ecomotive diesel with 104-horsepower and 184 pound-feet which promises 74.3 Imperial miles per gallon (61.9 U.S. mpg) on average, and a reworked 2.0-liter TDI with 148 hp and 236 lb-ft that gets 70.3 Imperial mpg (58.8 U.S. mpg). Early next year, five more engines will be added to the mix, ranging from an 85-hp 1.2-liter TSI to a 181-hp 2.0-liter TDI. There will be two manual and two DSG dual-clutch transmissions available, but fitment depends on the engine. It will hit showrooms later this year as a five-door hatch, then expand into other variants afterward. Read all about it in the press release below, catch it in red and white in the high-res gallery.Continue reading New Seat León brings all-new design, more tech and "Enjoyneering" [w/video]New Seat León brings all-new design, more tech and "Enjoyneering" [w/video] originally appeared on Autoblog on Mon, 16 Jul 2012 18:29:00 EST.
