YouTube user Matzell 89, whose slow motion compilations we've seen before, has only gotten better at putting these videos together. The latest effort is called Racing in Slow Motion IV and is almost sixteen minutes of racing that spans disciplines, countries and eras. A Steve McQueen voiceover from the movie Le Mans kicks it off, and the late Moto GP rider Marco Simoncelli closes. In between, it's all awesome. Scroll down to watch security camera footage of a young man in England who might be the luckiest individual on earth. Los Angeles' KTLA5 reports that a man and his girlfriend were having a loud argument while she was driving when the car they were in hit a wall and rolled violently. The whole thing was caught on a security camera. Judging by the grainy footage, as the car slowed its roll, the man shot through the sunroof. Instead of laying on the cement writhing in pain, though, he appears to simply stand up, dust off his clothes and check on his girlfriend. Both individuals were reportedly taken to the hospital with minor injuries and released. We're thinking it was a good thing that the sunroof was either open or shattered, but it would have been an even better thing if the man were wearing his seatbelt. And once again, we expect continued debates on the subject. Rick Cavallaro and his merry band of enthusiasts recently improved the upwind and downwind speeds of their Blackbird, their DDWFTTW (directly downwind, faster than the wind) vehicle, according to Wired. Using New Jerusalem Airport in Tracy, CA as the testing ground, the vehicle hit an upwind velocity of 2.01 times wind speed, which is counterintuitive until you consider the vehicle's design of having two large turbine blades catching that wind and propelling the wheels. Better yet, Wired reported that the Blackbird reached downwind speeds of 2.86 times wind velocity. Going downwind, the process is reversed, in that the rolling wheels spin the propeller, which further drive the vehicle. Cavallaro and his cohorts have been at this for at least a couple of years, claiming as far back as June 2010 that the Blackbird's downwind speed could hit three times wind velocity. They're getting close to that mark. Remember, this isn't a direct sail thing, and no perpetual motion is being claimed. Still, there are plenty who doubt the veracity of the DDWFTTW claims. The report suggests the pack may even do away with paint in an effort to trim the hybrid supercar's curb weight by as much as 66 pounds, and that up to 20 percent of buyers may opt for the purist version. Of course, in typical Porsche style, the automaker plans to attach a healthy price premium to the track package, proving once again that if your brand is strong enough, you can con customers into actually paying more for less product.
