Actualmente son ocho, si contamos el Paceman. A saber: Hatchback, cabrio, clubman, van, countryman, coupe, roadster y el citado Paceman. Pero pronto serán diez. Así lo ha confirmado Harald Krueger, miembro de la junta directiva de BMW, que confirmó la idea de localizar la fabricación de los modelos de la filial británica en las plantas ya existentes de Reino Unido, y la de NedCar en los Países Bajos, sobre la que parece ya haber un acuerdo total. Krueger, en todo caso, comentó que el acuerdo con Magna Steyr para fabricar el Countryman sigue en pié, y el SUV se seguirá montando en Austria, al menos por el momento. La gran cuestión que ahora podría ocuparnos es conocer cuáles serán los dos modelos "extra" que MINI espera sacar en los próximos años para mantener su ritmo de crecimiento (en el primer semestre sus ventas globales crecieron un 7%). Parece claro que la versión MVP llegará más pronto que tarde con el supuesto nombre de Traveller, y de hecho hemos visto alguna que otra posible mula de pruebas fotografiada en las últimas semanas. La otra opción para completar la gama es el Rocketman, que se desestimó en su momento por la falta de una plataforma sobre la que montarlo y hacerlo rentable. Pero ahora que el acuerdo con Toyota es un hecho, las cosas podrían cambiar de tónica, y junto con la próxima generación del iQ o del Aygo, dar vida a este pequeño MINI, que como muchas veces hemos dicho, es el que más ganas tenemos de ver. | Posted: 09 Jul 2012 06:06 PM PDT  2014 Cadillac CTS caught testing without cladding Filed under: Spy Photos, Sedan, Cadillac, GM, Luxury The brand new ATS and XTS may be stealing most of the headlines for Cadillac these days, but we mustn't forget about the more popular CTS - a vehicle that will be entering its third generation when the 2014 model year hits. We've seen spy shots of the new CTS before, but now the heavy cladding has been removed, and despite the eye-jumbling zebra paper, we get a clear look at the CTS' new design. Perhaps 'new' is too bold of a term. Cadillac certainly isn't walking away from its Art & Science design theme anytime soon (it's worked wonders, after all), and because of that, expect the new, larger CTS to be more of an evolution than a revolution. The prominent Cadillac grille is still large and in charge, though the headlamps appear to be smaller and swept back over the front fenders - sort of like what we see on the ATS. Dimensionally, the CTS is expected to grow in size, allowing for more of a gap between it and the entry-level ATS. Rumors continue to circulate about what exactly will be found underhood, but the latest reports suggest a pair of new twin-turbocharged engines, likely measuring in at 3.0 and 3.6 liters, placed above the naturally aspirated 3.6-liter V6 currently found in the CTS. Of course, eight-cylinder power will be reserved for the high-performance V variant - a vehicle set to take on the likes of Germany's finest. Inside, expect a new cabin design to be in the cards, all centered around Cadillac's brand new Cue infotainment system. Judging by the fact that we're just now seeing the CTS without heavy cladding, don't expect to see the production car make its debut anytime soon. If the current XKR-S coupe and convertible models are anything to go on, the four-door XFR-S should be powered by a more potent version of Jaguar's 5.0-liter supercharged V8, producing around 550 horsepower. Expect some suspension enhancements to be on board, as well, along with some exhaust tuning to make the big cat growl louder than ever before. When it launches, the XFR-S will battle head-to-head with the likes of the 560-hp BMW M5 and 518-hp Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG (or 550 with the optional AMG performance pack). For reference, the standard XFR produces 510 hp from its detuned version of the supercharged V8. We expect more details to arrive closer to the car's alleged November debut. First in line will reportedly be the M235i coupe, set to debut at the 2014 Detroit Auto Show, according to Autoweek. As BMW is renaming the coupe and convertible models the 2 Series (the hatchback will retain its 1 Series nomenclature), the M235i coupe will be the official successor to the 1 Series M Coupe (shown above) which quickly sold out in our market last year after just 600 examples were offered for sale (worldwide, the production run was 6,000 units).Autoweek is reporting that the M235i coupe will be fitted with BMW's N55 engine, a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six rated at 316 horsepower, mated to a six-speed manual or a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox. Rear-wheel drive will be standard, but all-wheel drive may be offered in some markets. We don't imagine many of those reading this are owners of the recalled machine since the first ActiveE was just delivered to a paying customer in January of this year and the cars are only available in Los Angeles, San Diego, Sacramento, New York, Boston and Hartford, CT, but we thought we'd keep you up to date anyway. Iit seems the cars may unexpectedly lose electric steering assistance, which may increase the risk of a crash. The defect will be fixed free of charge, as you would expect, and owners will be receiving notification shortly. The cash will be divvied up amongst its Oxford manufacturing facility, Swindon steel body pressing plant and its Birmingham engine facility, all in order to help Mini keep pace with a new global growth strategy. BMW says the investment will allow Mini to maintain larger production volumes while simultaneously rolling out up to 10 new models in the near future. While that figure likely includes models like the Mini Paceman, BMW is keeping details on any other future models to itself for the time being. The investments are planned to be completed by the end of 2015. All told, BMW has invested more than $2.7 billion in the company's UK manufacturing network since 2000, though Mini will likely still need even more production capacity to keep up with the brand's planned growth. While the manufacturer wants to contract that volume out to a satellite builder, no final decision on who that partner will be has been made just yet. Despite Scotland recording its lowest traffic fatalities since they began keeping track of the statistic, Transport Minister Keith Brown says, "... one death on our roads is one too many as far as I am concerned." According to The Scotsman, officers have asked the Scottish Parliament to push manufacturers to make cruise control standard equipment. "For people like salesmen, if all cars had cruise control, it would be easier to drive within limits," says Chief Superintendent David O'Connor. O'Connor isn't just talking about freeway speed limits, either - he envisions motorists using speed limiters in school zones and such, too. O'Connor goes even further, and says he would ideally like to see all cars fitted with black boxes to record driver behavior. The device, he argues, would be most beneficial among drivers under 25. The Scottish government is already experimenting with the black box idea on business cars of drivers under 25. Resulta curioso que estas variantes queden reservadas exclusivamente a ese mercado y, al menos por ahora, no llegará a Europa. El motor elegido para mover a esta versión Sport es el 2.0i 16v Turbo con 180 CV que también llevan otros modelos de la marca. Según los datos homologados alcanza los 213 km/h y acelera de 0 a 100 km/h en 8,6 segundos. En cuanto al consumo medio, se ha cifrado en 8,1 L/100. La caja de cambios es manual de seis velocidades y será la única posible pues no hay planes de una automática. | Posted: 09 Jul 2012 02:10 PM PDT  Report: NY Volvo owner closing in on 3 million miles in P1800S [w/video] Filed under: Classics, Coupe, Etc., Volvo If you've been following these pages for a while, you may remember Irv Gordon and his 1966 Volvo P1800. The duo have found their way onto these pages twice before: first back in 2007 when the machine cruised past 2.6 million miles and then again in 2011 when the machine picked up an additional 300,000. Now Gordon has just 34,000 miles to go before rolling past the three million mile mark. He bought the coupe brand-new in 1966, and while the engine has been rebuilt twice in the intervening 46 years, the lump is still factory original. Gordon attributes the vehicle's longevity to good design and proper maintenance, though keeping the coupe to himself has gone a long way too. The retired teacher doesn't let anyone else drive his beloved P1800. On average, he clocks around 100,000 miles per year traveling to car shows and visiting various states just for the fun of it. We can't wait to see this pair roll past the next milestone. No matter how hard an automaker tries to keep its future products under wraps - both literally, in the form of heavy cladding and swirly paint jobs, and figuratively - all that effort can be undone with one faulty click of the mouse. Such is the case with the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette. The final design of the so-called C7, due to hit the market as a 2014 model, has mostly been kept under lock and key. Automotive supplier Omega Tool Corp., though, has inadvertently revealed what appear to be digital renderings of the car's front fascia and the metal tooling used to mold it. Granted, the pointy-nosed face of the Corvette was all but a forgone conclusion, considering that every 'Vette has been blessed with such a beak since the late 1960s. Still, any sneak peek at the C7 Corvette is worth taking a good long look at. Not surprisingly, the video was removed from the web shortly after it went up... but not before a full spate of screen shots were captured.
