That's one reason why we've been so interested in the rivalry between the Ford Mustang and Chevrolet Camaro over the last several decades. The two cars have been swapping performance and sales-floor bragging rights since Chevy slapped its Bowtie on its Pony-fighter in 1967, and the faster model hasn't always been the better seller. That said, when it comes to the stoplight-to-stoplight drag race of the internet, nothing but good hard facts are going to earn you any respect. This being the case, the latest Ford Shelby GT500 has been King of the Road ever since it was unveiled as a 2013 model. With 82 more horsepower (rated) and a couple hundred pounds less weight to move, the 'Stang out to outrun the range-topping 2012 Camaro ZL1 in straight-line performance testing. Of course, the world doesn't always operate in straight lines, meaning there's a whole lot more to this story left to unfold. The boys from Inside Line decided to round up the latest GT500 and Camaro ZL1 models to see which would come out on top in a series of head-to-head contests. Next-gen Chevy Volt to ditch 1.4-liter engine in favor of 2.0 turbo?
Filed under: EV/Plug-in, Hybrid No one at General Motors is talking publicly about a rumor post over at InsideEVs that claims that the 83-horsepower, 1.4-liter gas engine currently used in the Chevrolet Volt will "definitely not" be the engine that is used in the 2014 model year Volt. And, by no one talking publicly, we mean that our emails have gone unanswered. InsideEVs just got a "Unfortunately, we do not comment on future product details, so I cannot provide any information related to your inquiry," from GM spokesperson Kevin Kelly. So, that means it's speculation time. InsideEVs claims to have spoken to an unnamed source who says that the replacement engine will be the new 2.0-liter turbo. This source says this engine has been tested on the Volt's Delta II compact vehicle platform, which is also used in the Buick Verano and many others. A larger engine does not necessarily imply worse fuel economy - see, for example, the jump from the 1.5-liter engine in the second-generation Toyota Prius that got 46 combined miles per gallon to the 1.8-liter in the third-gen that gets 50 - so we're not discounting the rumor outright. InsideEVs goes on to suggest that the 2.0-l turbo will also find its way into the Cadillac ELR (the production version of the Converj concept from 2009) that uses Volt technology, whenever that car arrives. To feed the speculators, here are some other stories about Volt engine possibilities from the archives. Our former colleague Sam Abuelsamid is skeptical of the 2.0 turbo story, though, writing that whatever engine replaces the 1.4, it will "almost certainly will not be a 2.0-liter turbocharged four as used in numerous GM vehicles including the Buick Regal GS and Verano T." He continues: A 200+ hp turbo 2.0-liter makes absolutely no sense when you only have 161 hp of electrical power. The 2.0-liter is larger, heavier and thirstier than the 1.4 and makes way more power than can be used by the electric drive system. The 2.0T would only make sense as part of a parallel plug-in hybrid drivetrain in some other vehicle. My guess (and I have no inside information on this, pure educated speculation) would be that they would opt for the new small engine family being co-developed with SAIC which starts at 1.0-liter. Those engines could be in production by next year and would be a much better fit. Spy Shots: Ferrari Enzo successor's homely visage spotted again

Though these latest spy photos show the latest version of Ferrari's next top-of-the-line machine out in the Italian public wearing embarrassingly ugly bodywork, we're still taking a wait-and-see attitude and holding out hope that the upcoming Prancing Horse hypercar is a stunner. If it ends up looking more like the F40 or F50 than the Enzo... well, that would be just fine by us, too. Compared to the last set of Enzo-successor spy photos we saw, this latest iteration looks much more complete and somewhat more integrated as a while. The extra-wide gaping maw is still there, as are radical fender peaks, doors that open well into the roof and dual coolers atop the rear wheel arches. Note, too, the impossibly wide tires at the rearmost corners. As much as we'd love to share hard details with you, we're all just going to have to wait until the 2013 Geneva Motor Show for that. Speculation, though, is always welcome, and the rumormill points to a hybrid V12 powerplant with enough ponies for a 2.5-second sprint to 60 and a 250-mile-per-hour top speed.
