Equipado con lo que parece ser un kit de carrocería deportivo, compuesto por un paragolpes delantero con un labio extra, taloneras entre los pasos de rueda, y una trasera con dos colas de escape custodiando una pieza plástica que simula un difusor aerodinámico. Aunque los chicos de Autoblog Italia se tiran a la piscina a hablar de un Clio RS, lo que a nosotros nos parece más probable es que se trate de un kit de carrocería deportivo, como el ofrecido desde el momento del lanzamiento en el Megane, con idéntica solución para la trasera. Y decimos esto entre otras cosas por la ausencia de unas pinzas monobloque fijas en el tren delantero. El RS debería ser (y será) más gordo. Recuerda que el nuevo Clio será presentado en el próximo Salón de París, al que acudiremos, como siempre, a finales del mes de septiembre. Pero Carlos Ghosn quiere apuntar más alto, mucho más alto. El nuevo objetivo de ventas para el viejo continente se ha situado en 100.000 unidades nada menos de cara a 2016. Este objetivo basará gran parte de su posible éxito en las ventas del nuevo compacto de la marca, el Etherea, que llegará en 2014, y debería convertirse en la mitad de esas ventas. Estas cifras de las que hablamos para Europa son una pieza fundamental si la marca quiere llegar al medio millón de unidades vendidas en todo el globo, cifra que pretende Ghosn en ese mismo 2016. And while it isn't necessarily the type of vehicle you'd think a group of car enthusiasts would get excited about, those of us who have spent time with the Verano have all become quite smitten with it. Our only wishes: more power and a manual transmission. Enter the 2013 Verano Turbo, packing 250 horsepower, 260 pound-feet of torque and yes, an available six-speed manual transmission. This is perhaps the most excited we've been about a Buick in... um... decades? Powering the Verano Turbo is - you guessed it - General Motors' 2.0-liter Ecotec inline-four. Buick states that the turbocharged Verano can sprint to 60 miles per hour in just 6.2 seconds and that more than 90 percent of the engine's torque is available as low as 1,700 RPM. The Turbo model is packed with standard equipment, including all of the optional goodies found in the Leather and Convenience packages of the standard Verano. That means things like heated leather surfaces on the seats and steering wheel, a premium nine-speaker Bose audio system, sport pedals, dual exhaust and a rear spoiler are all standard, as well as Buick's IntelliLink infotainment system. Pricing will be announced closer to the Verano Turbo's on-sale date later this year. Considering how well-received the standard car is, and how good we anticipate the new Turbo model to be, we have to ask: Why buy a Regal these days? The crew from Bridge to Gantry decided to celebrate the liquid-cooled V-Twin's birthday by taking it out for a little fun around the Nürburgring. If it seems odd to pair the V-Rod with one of the world's most challenging road courses, it is. Technically, Porsche lent a hand in developing the 60 degree, 130-horsepower engine at the heart of the modern cruiser, but punishing the carousel probably wasn't high on HD's list of development goals. We imagine it ranked in the same neighborhood as taking the gold in the Paris-Dakar. Even so, the bike has plenty of power on hand just waiting to throw machine and rider down the course's longer straights, but as Bridge to Gantry points out, it just isn't at home kissing apexes. That's not to say the 2012 V-Rod isn't an improvement over its predecessors. With new Michelin tires, Bridge to Gantry says the bike can now take better advantage of its suspension for some relatively reasonable handling. So, now that we know that a V-Rod isn't the most desirable weapon with which to tackle the 'Ring, what is? The company, whose research institute has an annual budget of about $100 million, has helped develop a system that can already fully recharge a small lithium-ion cell (with enough power to run a laptop) in one minute. Hydro-Quebec, which has studied batteries for more than 30 years, is working with the U.S. Department of Energy on this project. The institute is looking to bring down the typical EV recharging time from the 30 minutes required through a fast-charger system to about the same amount of time it takes to fill up a gas tank. Bringing down recharging time is viewed as a key to boosting sales of battery-electric vehicles that so far have a single-charge range of around a third or a quarter of the range of a typical gas-powered car. Leading the Hydro-Quebec effort is Karim Zaghib, head of the battery-research group at the utility and who has been conducting battery research since 1986. Pero el paso más importante en esta relación que amenaza con tornarse simbiótica aún está por llegar. Apple ha anunciado hoy en su conferencia para desarrolladores que ha reclutado a los principales fabricantes de coches del mundo para integrar en sus vehículos soporte para Siri, el asistente virtual controlado por voz estrenado por el iPhone 4S y que dentro de poco será compatible con órdenes en español. La comunicación con el teléfono se realizará desde un botón del propio coche (en el caso de BMW, el del sistema manos libres), evitando de esta forma tener que navegar por el menú del teléfono o tablet; de hecho, el nombre del sistema no es otro que Eyes Free, literalmente, Ojos Libres. Siri, en caso de que te hayas caído de un guindo o simplemente no estés muy puesto en telefonía móvil, es básicamente un mayordomo virtual con un sorprendente nivel de inteligencia. Por ejemplo, puedes preguntarle la hora o qué tiempo hace en Alcañiz, y automáticamente te informará. También es capaz de encontrarlos restaurantes más próximos con solo decirle que busque algún sitio para comer (Apple, por cierto, prescindirá próximamente de Google Maps para usar su propia cartografía en 3D), informarte del tráfico en la carretera en la que te encuentras (o cualquier otra, solo tienes que decirle la vía) o llevarte a la gasolinera más próxima. The cars aren't particularly fast nor the drivers necessarily the world's most skilled, but what the machinery and manpower lack in finesse, they more than make up for in heart. With real wheel-to-wheel action combined with local egos larger than the tracks themselves, something is terribly wrong if the night doesn't end in hand-to-hand combat. It's the hockey of motorsports. Typically, the fisticuffs are confined to the pits and paddock, safe from prying eyes of the vast majority of the crowd. But spectators in Jeffersonville, Indiana recently got a show when one racer tore off across the infield of the Sportsdome Speedway to blindside another competitor at race speed. Fortunately, "race speed" in this instance is somewhere in the neighborhood of 45 mph and it doesn't appear anyone was hurt from the actual crash. But that's not where the blood-boiling ended: both machines came to a stop, both drivers jumped from their cockpits and began beating the life out of each other before other racers and officials came to intervene. Good thing, too, since the Accent's base price has now been raised to $14,545 - an increase of $2,000 versus last year. The base GLS 6MT model now includes air conditioning, a six-speaker stereo with MP3 capability and iPod/USB auxiliary input jacks, body-colored power side mirrors, body-colored door handles and - wait for it - a holder for your sunglasses. What's more, keyless entry is now standard across the board, as are heated side mirrors. Other new upgrades for the 2013 model year include side mirrors with turn signal indicators, standard on the SE trim. A power sunroof is also new for this year, but is only optional on the top-shelf SE. All Accent models are powered by a direct-injected 1.6-liter inline-four, good for 138 horsepower and 123 pound-feet of torque. The all-wheel-drive C300 4Matic is slated to get a new 3.5-liter direct-injected engine, according to Car and Driver. Currently, the C300 4Matic is powered by a sluggish 3.0-liter V6, only putting out 228 horsepower and 221 pound-feet of torque. That, combined with a 3,737-pound curb weight, is why the current model takes 7.1 seconds to get to 60 miles per hour and only returns fuel economy ratings of 18 miles per gallon in the city and 25 mpg highway. (For reference, a 2012 Audi A4 2.0T Quattro with Tiptronic returns 21/29 mpg.) This new engine, a detuned version of the 3.5-liter V6 found in the C350 sedan, produces 248 hp and 251 lb-ft - gains of 20 and 30, respectively. The 52,000-square-foot expansion will bump capacity out to 180,000 units from 156K, and the $75M commitment will lead to around 100 new jobs. But that may just be the tip of the iceberg for Subaru's plans here in North America. According to a new report from Japan's Kyodo News, Subaru parent Fuji Heavy Industries is investigating building a whole new plant in the States. The publication says that the plant could be online for the fiscal year beginning April 2015. About one in five attempts by Green Car Reports to use the delayed-charging settings to recharge its 2011 Chevrolet Volt extended-range plug-in has resulted in a lack of charging from the Coulomb 240-volt charging station. Coulomb isn't denying the issuing, saying the problem is "high-frequency ground currents induced by the Volt on-board charger." Green Car Reports said that its Nissan Leaf battery-electric vehicle didn't have similar problems with the delayed-charging mode, which plug-in drivers use to schedule recharging times late at night in order to get the cheapest electricity and put the least strain on the grid. Green Car Reports has had its Volt since January 2011.
