Allan McNish se quedó con el crono más rápido, girando en 3:25,927, un crono unos seis segundos por debajo de lo que la organización busca como "tiempo objetivo" para garantizar la seguridad. De esta manera los R18 e-tron híbridos demostraron que son capaces de rodar más rápido que sus equivalentes convencionales, que se quedaron con la tercera plaza de la crono con el coche #3 de Gené y compañía. Pero lo más sorprendente de la jornada fue sin duda alguna el rendimiento de Toyota. El coche nipón, conducido por Alex Wurz para lograr el mejor crono, se quedó a sólo siete décimas del tiempo del R18, demostrando que podría toserle a los coches de Ingolstadt. Pero tenemos serias dudas sobre el ritmo real de los coches. Es típico que en estas jornadas no se vaya "con todo", y se guarden décimas, o incluso segundos. Y para Le Mans, además, cuenta tanto la velocidad a una vuelta como la capacidad de ahorrar combustible y neumáticos. ¿Será al final una carrera más abierta de lo esperado? ¿Se meterá Toyota en la lucha por la victoria de los R18? Now we know what the DBS replacement will be called when the production version arrives, thanks to the snoops at CAR magazine: Vanquish. The resurrected moniker, last used on the V12 GT flagship that Aston retired in 2007, is plainly visible on the decklid of the car shown above, whose rear-end styling exactly matches that of the AM310 Concept. Whether the transporter carrying the new Vanquish was left open by genuine mistake or "accidentally" by design, CAR's video of the discovery, posted below, leaves no doubt as to the next Aston Martin's identity. And we have some tidbits of our own to add to the developing story. We've heard some rumblings that more concrete information will become available later this month, and that if you want to see the Vanquish in person, you should keep Pebble Beach weekend open. As indicated by the AM310, the Vanquish looks to the ultra-exotic One-77 for some styling cues, but that's not all. Expect the Vanquish to outperform the DBS, with more power from the latest version of Aston's familiar 6.0-liter V12 and less weight thanks to carbon fiber bodywork. Lighter, quicker and faster? Our attention is piqued. En un país donde los vehículos tan pequeños no consiguen grandes cifras, quizás la predicción de 50.000 unidades anuales era excesiva. Sin embargo con la introducción de los Abarth la cosa parece estar cambiando. En poco más de un mes a la venta, el Abarth 500 ha recibido tantos pedidos como unidades previstas había para todo el año, estando totalmente agotada la producción para este 2012. Suponemos que en Fiat se pondrán manos a la obra para aumentar la tirada en las instalaciones mexicanas y así evitar las horribles listas de espera. For years, the sportiest 7 Series in the U.S. has been the Alpina B7, which has been heavily breathed-upon by the namesake tuner and offered through official BMW dealers. Most recently, Car and Driver reopened the discussion just last month. While the company still isn't officially committing to an M7, TheDetroitBureau.com quotes Ludwig Willisch, CEO of BMW North America, as bullish on the model's prospects. According to the the report, while BMW has long maintained that it wouldn't build a 7 Series M, "sentiment appears to be changing, especially with Willisch's counterpart in China also lending his support." Of course, if BMW builds such a model, that doesn't mean we'll see it in the States, but Willisch seems optimistic about our chances. The Swedish automaker aims to build a model slotted above the current C70. Dubbed the C90, the model will compete directly against hardware like the Mercedes-Benz E-Class Coupe, which means a convertible version will likely follow as well. The news comes via unnamed insiders. The C90 will be built on the same Scalable Platform Architecture as the upcoming C80. As such, we can probably expect the new two-door to share the C80's gasoline and diesel drivetrain options. Given Volvo's affinity for plug-in hybrids, we wouldn't be surprised to see a battery pack show up eventually as well. Unfortunately, none of this is written in stone. The C90 still hasn't made it into the Volvo model cycle plan, meaning the luxe two-door won't see the light of day until 2015 at the earliest. The two-minute video shows the test-drivers - based in Golden, CO - testing the car along mountain roads and talking about their reasons for signing up for the project. And let's just say the driving pace is all rather leisurely. Still, Audi is making good on its latest test project. The German automaker said in February that it would launch a test fleet of electric A3s in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Denver and Washington, D.C., later this year, though didn't say how many would be deployed. The A3 e-tron has a single-charge range of about 90 miles as well as an electric motor that provides about 130 horsepower. According to Motor Trend, the actuaries just want to look at your mileage, and if you can keep it in the triple digits each month, you'll be eligible for further savings. If you're one of the four million Ford customers who have Sync'ed your ride and you're thinking this sounds like a great deal, please stop to ask yourself, "What would George Orwell do?" Sure, this program and others like it are nothing new, in fact, State Farm has been offering a similar deal for OnStar customers for some time, according to the report. But we have to wonder just how slippery this slope will get before your insurance company starts using telematics data in ways that are much more intrusive.
