En estos momentos los grandes fabricantes alemanes se encuentran inmersos en un proceso de ampliación de gama que les ha llevado a inventarse segmentos hasta ahora desconocidos, así que por fuerza Volvo tiene que crecer, aunque solo sea para poner un pie en aquellos escalones que hasta ahora se le escapaban. Y ahí es donde entraría el nuevo C90. Sin dar muchas explicaciones sobre sus fuentes (ninguna, de hecho), Inside Line publica que Volvo está analizando el lanzamiento de un nuevo coupé de tintes deportivos superior en precio y dimensiones al actual C70, para así competir con coches como el Clase E Coupé. Luxury cars have offered parallel parking assist systems for a while now, but these days you can get automatic parking tech on cars as mainstream as the Ford Focus.Mini has set out to show that human beings can still do some things better than machines. It recently held a promotional event in China for the debut of a new version of its hatchback called "The Chinese Job," where the car in question was used to set the Guinness World Record for the tightest parallel parking job. Two drivers with apparent stunt skills were used, and suffice it to say, breaking the record was no sweat for them. Using a handbrake maneuver to deftly slide the car into place, the first man to make an attempt set the new record at a combined distance of just 21 centimeters left between his Mini hatchback and two Clubman models. The second gentleman proceeded to one-up his counterpart by breaking the record again at 20 cm. Proving how important pride is to the Chinese people, this one-upmanship continued in single centimeter intervals until the new record was set, and left, at just 15 cm as certified by an official representative from Guinness World Records. A parked Volt in Geneseo, which is about 35 miles south of Rochester, was totaled (utterly demolished, actually, as you can see in the picture above) when a driver ran a stop sign, lost control of her Toyota Camry and rammed into the vehicle, according to the Livingston County News. The Volt, flipping its nose as claims that its battery makes it a greater fire risk than conventional vehicles, was pushed about 25 feet into a garage but didn't catch fire. The Camry driver sustained non-life-threatening injuries, according to the publication. Contrary to popular perception, there is an enforced speed limit in the Mediterranean principality. Enforcing it, however, is another issue, because Monaco has a higher concentration of supercars than 99-percent of the countries on the globe. So while they may get away with patrolling in puny Citroën diesels just across the border in France, the gendarmerie in Monaco needs something a little faster. Solution: the KTM X-Bow. And not just any X-Bow - the X-Bow R, which tuner MTM has fortified to the tune of 400 horsepower. Considering the vehicle's 1,700-pound curb weight, that's enough juice to give this patrol vehicle a power-to-weight ratio capable of embarrassing most supercars. Of course, the KTM wouldn't be of much use in the rain, but considering the Austrian plates on this car, we get the distinct feeling that the officials haven't actually acquired any of these just yet - as much as KTM and MTM might like to sell them a few. Like whether the next Focus RS will, in fact, be a Fiesta.Autocar says Ford still hasn't decided what form the next generation of its ultrahatch will take, and that it is weighing the pros and cons of using both models for the next RS. On the one hand, the Fiesta is already being campaigned in the World Rally Championship with RS badging. The pint-sized hatchback is also available as a three-door (although not in the U.S.), a bodystyle that is reportedly viewed as more befitting an RS model. No, for that you'll need a convertible version, too, to steal away customers who'd otherwise be putting their names down on the wait list for the 458 Spider.Lamborghini knows that, as it has demonstrated with successive versions of the Gallardo. Audi knows it too, as it has shown with the R8 Spyder. Aston Martin makes a DBS Volante and Porsche offers a 911 Turbo convertible. So if McLaren is going to play in this league, it's going to need a convertible version of its MP4-12C. And if it's going to outshine these soft-topped contenders and pick up market share from the 458 Spider with its innovative folding hard-top, it's going to need a similarly impressive parlor trick, too. Fortunately that's just what's coming down the pipeline. According to the latest intel from British weekly Autocar, McLaren has been collaborating with Webasto on a new type of roof mechanism for the upcoming 12C Spyder. Now if the name Webasto sounds familiar, that's probably because it's the same German outfit that developed the apertures for the Mini, Volkswagen Eos, Volvo C70 and, most crucially, the Ferrari California and 458 Spider. For McLaren, Webasto is said to have made a three-piece folding roof that stacks in between the seats and the engine, allowing the twin-turbo V8 to be viewed through its clear compartment cover - something the 458 cannot boast. The panels themselves will likely be crafted from carbon fiber like much of the rest of the MP4-12C, but as for the nomenclature we'll have to wait and see. The only other roadgoing convertible McLaren ever produced was the SLR Roadster, whose name was likely determine by Mercedes-Benz, not by McLaren. Selna has warned jurors in a wrongful death suit about suspicions surrounding Toyota. According to Inside Line, the warning comes tied to the automaker's conduct during an investigation of a 2008 Camry involved in a fatal crash allegedly caused by unintended acceleration. The single-car accident in Utah claimed the lives of the driver, Pual van Alfen, as well as one other passenger. Two passengers were also injured in the event on November 5, 2010. According to the report, two weeks later, Toyota inspected the sedan without the owner's presence or consent, including the onboard black box. Judge Selena cautioned jurors that they should treat the testimony of Toyota personnel who participated in the investigation with "greater caution than that of other witnesses." Plaintiffs argued that without their own lawyers present during the inspection, data from the Event Data Recorder could have been changed or deleted entirely. The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) and EV-charging-station maker AeroVironment have opened the first 10 electric-vehicle charging stations along Interstate 5 and U.S. Route 2 that will allow EV drivers steady access to charging stations for the 110-mile drive between Seattle and the Canadian border. AeroVironment and the WSDOT, which will install two more stations in the area during the next few weeks, will give EV drivers free charging privileges "for a limited time." Eight of the stations are so-called fast-chargers. The U.S. Department of Energy provided $1.5 million in funding for the project, which is part of a broader effort to provide EV charging capabilities along the West Coast from Mexico to Canada. Of course, much of that effort depends on California, where the state and charging-station makers are squabbling. NRG Energy in March won a settlement from the state which resulted in $102 million being earmarked for the build-out of at least 200 so-called Freedom Station EV chargers throughout the state. Smaller competitor Ecotality subsequently sued the state, saying that the agreement would hinder competition and would cost California taxpayers more than the deal was worth. NRG this week said the project will bring $185 million in economic activity and add 1,500 jobs. Mazda has registered losses for the past four years due in part to slow sales and a stronger yen. As a result, the company is looking to tighten its belt around the world. Mazda will slim its workforce to under 200 workers at a subsidiary in Germany, while the manufacturer's sales staff in California and Michigan will fall to around 550 employees. The news comes on the heels of a buyout last month that saw 107 U.S. employees leave voluntarily. Currently, Mazda has no plans to cut its Japanese workforce, though some reorganization may take place on the home front in the coming months.
