Pues bien, ahora hay una nueva compañía que quiere darle un giro más de tuerca a este mítico modelo, bajo un eslogan que yo describiría como ligeramente incorrecto. Bajo el nombre de Puritalia, en la web se preguntan si nos imaginamos la mezcla del músculo americano con el diseño italiano. Personalmente, si me piden que me imagine eso, pienso en un DeTomaso Pantera, por citar un rápido ejemplo que a todos os suene. El diseño del Cobra era completamente británico, y eso lo han obviado un poco estos amigos, pero bueno, habrá tiempo de juzgar su obra dentro de 31 días, que es lo que falta para que revelen lo que esconde la lona de la imagen superior. La duda que nos queda es si estaremos ante otro render o un proyecto más serio, donde podamos tocar "chapa de verdad". | Posted: 31 May 2012 05:27 PM PDT Video: Good Samaritans dragged away in flood trying to save motorist Filed under: Sedan, Etc., Safety, Videos, South America It takes less than two feet of moving flood water to carry off a vehicle, and while that's a disturbingly small amount, the number drops to just six inches when it comes to sweeping an adult off of their feet. A handful of residents in Barranquilla, Columbia recently discovered this fact the hard way when flood waters made local streets impassible. As one woman tried to navigate her car away from the swift water, the engine stalled. When it became apparent she was unwilling to abandon her property, a group came out to help. That's when things went downhill. After a good fight, the group was forced to let go of the car, which slid to a side street. Three of the good Samaritans lost their footing and wound up floating father down the street. While two of the men were eventually pulled from the water, it's unclear what happened to the third. What's the lesson here? Don't risk deep water, and if you are foolish enough to do so, be smart about when to let the car succumb to mother nature. For example, if we were to say the phrase "Porshce owner," odds are you'd have a very specific type of individual in mind... and that individual would likely look nothing like Magnus Walker. Walker is a thoroughbred car guy with an incomparable passion for the Porsche 911. As a clothing entrepreneur, he's about as far from the typical 911 owner as it gets. When he isn't racing or designing, he's piecing old Porsche models back together for another shot at life. His stated goal is to collect one of every 911 between built between 1964 and 1973, and so far, he's only missing the youngest of that group. Walker says he's owned over 40 of the cars in his time as a collector, and it's clear he has the kind of passion that keeps this industry spinning. But while matte black is the common choice among the anti-gloss set, to our eyes, it can often look like someone simply forgot to apply the primer. That's why many of us around the virtual Autoblog watercooler like matte color wraps - such as those displayed by Alfa Romeo with the red 4C Concept and Ferrari with the green 599 HY-KERS prototype. Once the strict purview of aftermarket mod-jobs, matte finishes are growing more maintstream as select manufacturers have begun offering them direct from the factory. Notable examples include Mercedes-Benz (which we checked out in Detroit this year), Hyundai (which is launching the Veloster Turbo in matte gray) and Maserati (which launched the GranTurismo S Limited Edition in flat blue). But few have embraced the anti-glare approach like BMW has with its recent succession of special edition M3s. The Bavarian automaker dubs them "Frozen," and is now coming back with an array of special editions of both the M3 coupe and its newer, bigger brother, the M5 sedan. BMW is launching the M Performance Editions of both the M3 and M5 in Frozen Red, Frozen White and Frozen Blue. Black leather interiors with accent stitching color-keyed to match the exterior - along with Alcantara-wrapped steering wheels and piano black trim - come as part of the package, as do matte black alloys. Both models also come packaged with buckets full of additional equipment to make the specials even more so. Only 30 such M3s and another 30 M5s will be made, and made available, unfortunately, exclusively in the UK. But if past Frozen editions are anything to go by, BMW is likely to find more than enough demand to make the matte red, white and blue editions available in the USA soon enough. When disaster struck in Abruzzo, Ferrari launched a special-edition F430 to raise funds for its relief, and has been contributing to rebuilding the stricken region ever since. When the tsunami hit in Japan, Ferrari contributed millions to its aid. Now another earthquake has hit Italy - in the same part of the country that hosts Ferrari's headquarters in Maranello. The company immediately halted operations to let its employees be with their families, and is now preparing for an online auction to raise funds for relief efforts in the region. The auction will be hosted at FerrariStore.com, and will of course include all manner of Ferrari-branded merchandise - including racing helmets and suits worn in grands prix by Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa. But there are some bigger items as well, including a V8 engine from one of the Scuderia's F1 cars, and, at the top of the list, a 599XX Evoluzione. The most advanced of the company's developmental track cars, the 599XX Evo is worth over $1.6 million, but will likely raise far more than that - and help the disaster relief efforts that have forced the new Italian federal government to raise fuel taxes - when the bidding starts next week. The agreement, in which $102.5 million will be paid to NRG to build the charging stations and $20 million will be provided to state residents in the form of ratepayer refunds, will spur more than $185 million in economic activity and will create more than 1,500 jobs throughout the most populous U.S. state, NRG said, citing a study it commissioned to be written by Solution Mountain. The company, in a filing to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), also said that "any industry participant remains free to compete for every potential EV charging site in California, and nothing in the Settlement Agreement restrains that competition." Hearst Corporation has announced that Road & Track will be moving from Newport Beach, California, to Ann Arbor over the summer, joining its other automotive title, Car and Driver. Automobile also calls Ann Arbor home, as does R&T's new editor-in-chief, Larry Webster. He will take over for current boss Matt DeLorenzo on June 4. Webster had been automotive editor at Popular Mechanics since January 2010, and worked for Car and Driver for years before that. He has a mechanical engineering degree from Lehigh University and counts racing and vintage car restoration among his hobbies. The raucous tribute was organized by the Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles, which followed up the synchronized salute of RPMs with an evening of remembrance hosted by Jay Leno and attended by a litany of the auto world's most revered members, including Parnelli Jones, Phil Remington, Don Prudhomme, Linda Vaughn, Ed Pink, Edsel Ford II and Dan Gurney, among others both famous and just friends of Shelby. The evening was called "Carroll Shelby A Life Remembered," and drew 1,200 to the Petersen Museum in LA. Autoweek was there and shares some nice anecdotes from a few of the evening's speakers here. Outside of LA, though, many other gatherings were hosted around the world where teams of idling Shelby automobiles - Mustangs, Cobras, GT500s and more - waited for the clock to strike 6:55. According to IOL Motoring, Smith had been involved in a six-car accident in November of 2010 on his way home from work. Después de darse de bruces contra la pared con el Crosstour y cosechar unas críticas poco halagüeñas en EEUU para su Civic (justo ahora que la competencia está poniendo toda la carne en el asador...), el fabricante japonés necesita clavar su berlina intermedia, que ya está rodando en fase de prototipo. Aunque el camuflaje es abundante e incómodo, como corresponde en todo coche de pruebas recién sacado a pasear, la versión estadounidense del Accord deja ver una toma de aire cerrada con una rejilla al estilo Accord Coupé Concept, así como una calandra con las barras del refrescado Crosstour. El resto queda bien protegido por su incómodo abrigo veraniego, así que solo podemos especular. The corollary is a growing market for ZEV credits. That is, a way for companies who aren't selling enough ZEVs (which, in this case, include pure electric vehicles, fuel cell vehicles and ultra-low emission plug-in hybrids) can buy credits from companies who have sold too many. Wait, that sounds funny. Who have sold more ZEVs than CARB requires them to. Unsurprisingly, Nissan and Tesla are the two companies with the most credits to offer, while Chrysler and Honda might be in the position to need to buy some. Andy Palmer, a Nissan executive vice president, told Bloomberg recently that Nissan is "in a fortunate position of having positive credit," but hasn't yet publicly announced exactly what it plans to do with the credits. Tesla has already sold some credits to Honda and an unnamed automaker. The rules don't requite public disclosure of price or number sold. If an automaker doesn't earn or buy enough credits, it has to pay a fine. According to Bloomberg, the number of credits a company earns per vehicle depends on its range and recharge time. A Leaf is worth three, a Model S equals seven. The ostensible point of the ZEV rules is to increase the number of ZEVs on the road. Since California's rules are in effect in 12 states total, the expectation is that the largest six automakers will sell 60,000 ZEVs there through 2014 and then a total of 1.4 million by 2025.
