Si las colaboraciones entre Aston Martin y Zagato ya son altamente deseables de por sí, el clásico de los años 60 pasa por ser una de sus obras más cotizadas, además de un coche con una historia de lo más curiosa. El DB4 GT fue presentado inicialmente en el Salón de Londres de 1960 y Aston Martin fabricó 19 unidades en 1963, pero en 1991 permitió la construcción de otros cuatro ejemplares usando piezas originales, y en el año 2000 dos últimos afortunados tuvieron la oportunidad de comprar un auténtico DB4 GT de primer mano. Todos estos coches registran ahora precios de escándalo en las subastas, rondando fácilmente el millón de euros. The weapons fire a .68 caliber blob using compressed air, and as such, they have all the accuracy of a pool noodle fired from a howitzer. That doesn't make it any less fun to track your friends down through the woods and paint them dayglow pink, though. One filmmaker has decided to show off exactly what the game looks like in the imaginations of 12-year-old boys everywhere by throwing in unsanctioned weaponry like full-on Nitro Circus Baja trucks, airfoils, ATVs, motocross bikes, Jeep Wrangler troop carriers and plenty of dirt jumps. There's even a cameo by an older doorless Grand Cherokee. It's paintball armegeddon. Still, we feel it's our duty to warn anyone who's still reading not try these sorts of shenanigans at home - battle between foot soldier and moving vehicle rarely works out in the former's favor. Filed under: EV/Plug-in, Legislation and Policy, USA What happens when the federal government wants to "pick a winner" but the auto industry decides the time isn't quite right for that winner to emerge? We might be about to find out. Again. A recent article in Automotive News details the diverging roads that the industry and the Obama administration are taking when it comes to electric vehicles. Obama continues to support plug-ins, but most automakers seem to have decided that slow and cautious is the way to move forward. This presents itself in the way OEMs are rolling out small fleets of some plug-in vehicles (see: Toyota RAV4 EV, Ford Focus Electric) and are out there promoting standard but more efficient gasoline-powered vehicles. As Mark James, director of Lotus Engineering, told AN, "Everybody rushed toward EV vehicles and hybrid vehicles. Now, they're going back, and saying, 'Actually, we need to look at engines.'" Plug-in technology does have a certain attraction, though. For example, the Chevrolet Volt pulls in a lot of buyers new to the Chevy brand. The subtext of the AN article, though, is that the OEMs believe customers aren't quite ready to make the big shift to plug in vehicles. | Posted: 29 May 2012 04:50 PM PDT  Video: Jay Leno's Garage releases Bollywood-inspired Tata Nano episode Filed under: Budget, Etc., Celebrities, IndiaJay Leno has finally turned out the Tata Nano episode of Jay Leno's Garage. As it turns out, the television personality actually found a way to purchase the tiny machine for himself, and the show follows the car all the way down the production line and to the Big Dog Garage in Los Angeles. Leno rolled out a whole passel of Bollywood dancers to mark the occasion and even abandoned his traditional denim uniform for an elegant Indian suit. Unfortunately, the Nano isn't legal to operate on U.S. roads, so the comedian had to come up with a place to play with his new toy. The Los Angeles Police Department was more than happy to offer Leno a little time on their test track to stretch the Nano's legs. Despite the small engine, the car seems plenty entertaining to drive, though its suspension is clearly set up to handle the rough streets and byways of the Indian countryside. Several companies have been developing exhaust-note simulation systems, particularly for electric cars - be it for the sake of enjoyment or safety. But EVs aren't the only cars that will benefit from engine notes reproduced through speaker systems: so will some high-end performance machinery. When BMW switched its M5 performance sedan from a V10 to a twin-turbo V8, it lost some of the exhaust note for which the model had become known, so it devised a system to pipe engine sounds into the cabin for the benefit of those inside. Now Maserati may be following a similar path. A new report from What Car? indicates that Maserati is working on ways to simulate exhaust notes on its forthcoming models. Now if you're thinking that Maserati's engines - particularly the V8 developed and built for it by sister-company Ferrari - don't need any help in that department, well, you're right. But soon the Trident marque will be offering diesel engines as well. The oil-burners are being developed for two new models of the current Quattroporte (pictured above) - one bigger than the current model and one smaller - and probably for the production version of the upcoming Kubang SUV (which will arrive wearing a different name). Skoda designers and engineers are hard at work refreshing the company's Yeti, and our spy photographers spotted the updated vehicle out for testing. A new front fascia looks to be part of the package, complete with larger air inlets and a redesigned grille similar to what we've seen on the Skoda Rapid. Designers have also reworked the small crossover's headlights up front, while the rear now wears new taillamp arrays and and fresh valance. None of the changes are Earth-moving by any means, but they should help keep the well-received Yeti competitive until the next-generation comes along. Ya sabemos que próximamente la firma checa lo desdoblará en dos vehículos, uno de ellos con espacio para siete personas, pero antes de eso refrescará la generación actual con un necesario lavado de cara. Las fotos espía, de excelente calidad, revelan que el Yeti se prepara para recibir un nuevo paragolpes con tomas de aire rediseñadas y la nueva parrilla de Skoda, compartida con el Rapid, así como unos nuevos pilotos traseros. Básicamente lo que cualquiera podía esperar. Auto Shows, Alfa Romeo, Design/StyleBMW may be the sponsor of this year's Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este, but it was Alfa Romeo that cleaned up when the awards were handed out over the weekend. Top honors went to a pristine 1933 Alfa Romeo 6C 1750 GS with coachwork by Figoni. The Series XI coupe that could easily be mistaken for a Bugatti of the same era was initially shown at the Paris Auto Salon in 1933 and has gone on to appear at numerous concours around the world. At Villa d'Este, it won not only the Best of Show awards - both those selected by the jury and voted on by the public - but also the prestigious Coppa d'Oro (Gold Cup). The classic 6C wasn't the only Alfa to take top honors on Italy's Lake Como, however, as the 4C concept - first shown at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show and again at the Frankfurt Motor Show that year - won in the concept car category. The public voted it the finest prototype displayed at the concours this year, overshadowing the Aston Martin AM 310 concept and BMW's own Zagato Coupe, both of which were new debuts at the lakeside exposition. Tuesday video series. This week, the company wants to take us, well, inside the factory, specifically to the stamping process, where Kuka-brand robots insert huge aluminum blanks into the press, where a thousand pounds of force then them into panels. The complex machinery is fast enough to make a part every six seconds, Tesla says. We don't know how that math pencils out, but it sure seems like it should be enough to reach the company's production goals. Back in February, Tesla said it expects to sell around 5,000 Model S electric cars this year. Like almost everything Tesla does, the body of the Model S is unusual (see also the company's proprietary chargers or the fact that they reinvigorated the electric car in the first place). Tesla says it "is one of the few companies in the world producing a steel-reinforced aluminum car." Using this material means the car can be lighter, which helps the EV go further. Otherwise inoffensive everyday objects from small stones to birds and cut grass can turn your day from a pleasant ride in the countryside to a quick skid across the pavement. Just ask an unnamed husband and wife who were recently cruising along in Tennessee. The couple were riding down South Church Street in Murfreesboro when a golf ball from a nearby golf course came sailing through the air and busted out the woman's teeth. According to police, the man reported seeing the ball bounce across the road and into his wife's face. Surprisingly enough, she kept her machine upright and was soon transported to a local hospital for treatment. Officers located the wayward golfer, who admits he saw his ball fly toward the road, at which point he heard screams. Now, we've seen some pretty bad Chinese copies of American vehicles (blatant Ford F-150 ripoff, anyone?), but this is just... ew. What you're looking at here is a yet-to-be-named crossover from Chinese company Dongfeng, clearly stealing many of its design cues from the decidedly handsome Cadillac SRX. According to Car News China, this Dongfeng... thing is likely based on the last-generation Kia Sorento, a vehicle that is still manufactured in the People's Republic as part of the Dongfeng-Yueda-Kia joint venture. The crossover will reportedly launch in the first half of 2013, powered by a Nissan-sourced 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine. | Posted: 29 May 2012 02:02 PM PDT  Video: 2013 Toyota Prius C doesn't get much love from Consumer Reports Filed under: Budget, Hybrid, Videos, Hatchback, ToyotaConsumer Reports has panned the 2012 Toyota Prius C in a new video review that urges car shoppers to get a used regular Prius over the new baby model, "it's a much better car overall," said Mike Quincy in the review. The problems Toyota ran into in creating the Prius C appear to be in making it cheaper, according to Consumer Reports. The list of adjectives during the video review included: "lackluster," "hard plastic," "cheap materials," "dead steering" and "slow." Toyota may see those words as misplaced modifiers compared to the glowing recommendations the larger mainstream Prius has received in its decade-long Synergy drive to becoming the eco-poster child for hypermiling greenies out to save the Earth and ride in California HOV lanes with a single person aboard. (HOV access for most gas-electric hybrids has been discontinued in the Golden State.) While the Prius C may start at $18,995, its price climbs quickly and its value does not, Consumer Reports said. A new regular Prius starts at $24,000. However, the bad news from Consumer Reports hasn't hurt Prius C sales, which began in April.
