Literalmente. Aunque todos los años los fabricantes invierten una cantidad de dinero nada despreciable en crear coches de exhibición para eventos como el SEMA, en no pocas ocasiones estos vehículos no son homologados o directamente carecen de número de chasis, así que para evitar problemas y ahorrar espacio, una vez cierra sus puertas el salón de turno son destruidos. Esto es lo que sucedió con el IS F biturbo y el IS C tuneado que Lexus encargó a la gente de Lexus encargó a Fox Marketing. El preparador estadounidense ha querido compartir con nosotros el destino de estos coches en los que tantas horas de trabajo metieron, y cuya belleza resulta mucho más efímera de lo que cabía esperar. After all, the company shows up to the tuning show in Las Vegas every year with an interesting creation or two. But now, we're going to watch two of those modded vehicles meet their demise. In the video, Brian Fox talks about the two vehicles being sent to the crusher - a twin-turbocharged Lexus IS F and special IS C - saying that all manufacturers crush their media fleet vehicles. That's not entirely true, though. Yes, many press vehicles are crushed, but they're commonly of the pre-production sort or are simply cars that were never issued VINs. Filed under: Fotos espía, SUV, crossovers y todoterrenos Los chinos son capaces de sorprendernos con cada lanzamiento y no precisamente por sus excelentes productos de desarrollo propio sino por ser los únicos que consiguen mezclar el estilo de diversos modelos ya existentes sin contemplaciones. El último en sorprendernos es el SUV que Dongfeng está preparando. Partiendo de la base del Sorento de anterior generación, los chicos de Dongfeng han diseñado un frontal con clara inspiración Cadillac que poco "pega" con el resto del conjunto. Para la zaga no se han esforzado demasiado y proponen ópticas a lo Yaris, pero de mayor tamaño para que no queden pequeñas. En el interior sí se ha mantenido el diseño original del Sorento aunque con pequeños matices para diferenciarlos. A la espera de conocer su denominación comercial definitiva, este SUV llevará un motor de dos litros y 144 CV fabricado por Nissan. Volvo prueba con éxito en España su tren de carretera autónomo
Filed under: Volvo, TecnologíaHaz clic en la foto para saltar a la galería Allá por el mes de enero te contamos que el proyecto SARTRE (Safe Road Trains for the Environment) estaba acercándose a su última etapa, y hoy Volvo ha comunicado que sus pruebas para crear vehículos autónomos inteligentes se encuentran a punto de concluir tras realizar 200 km en carretera con un mínimo absoluto de intervención humana. En total, Volvo ha recorrido 10.000 km desde que dio comienzo el proyecto. El proyecto, pensado para crear auténticos trenes de carretera, con una locomotora virtual y múltiples vagones, utiliza comunicaciones inalámbricas car 2 car (C2C) para poner en fila india a múltiples vehículos que regulan de forma independiente su velocidad, distancia de seguridad y giro, "enganchándose" a un camión mediante una conexión de datos. Durante las pruebas, realizadas por Ricardo UK Ltd, Applus+ Idiada, Tecnalia Research & Innovation, Institut für Kraftfahrzeuge Aachen, SP Technical Research Institute, Volvo Technology y Volvo Car Corporation en una autopista próxima a Barcelona y compartida con otros conductores (no tenemos más detalles sobre la situación concreta), este convoy formado por un Volvo S60, un V60 y un XC60 a modo de vagones, recorrió 200 km a una velocidad de 85 km/h manteniendo una distancia de entre 5 y 15 metros entre sí (6 metros de normal), usando cámaras y sensores de radar y láser para seguir al camión-guía de forma segura y muy eficiente. De esta forma, sería posible dejar tu coche "conectado" a un camión en ruta y dejar que él condujera por ti hasta que uno de los dos llegara a su punto de destino o separación. Precisamente las mediciones de los consumos serán ahora objeto de los investigadores, dado que además de crear vehículos más seguros, Volvo espera con este proyecto financiado en parte por la Comisión Europea reducir el gasto de combustible en cerca del 20%. Dado que los coches solo frenan y aceleran cuando es necesario, el consumo se optimiza como difícilmente podría hacer un humano, y además el camión al frente del convoy tiene un impacto positivo en la aerodinámica de los automóviles que van a rebufo. Report: Lotus-Renault won't let Kimi Raikkonen contest Rally Finland

The Polish driver, as you may recall, was severely injured when he crashed his Skoda Fabia S2000 in a rally in Italy two years ago. And now the driver who's keeping his seat warm wants to go rallying, too, but it doesn't look like it's going to happen. That driver, of course, is Kimi Raikkonen, the former Formula One World Champion from Finland. The thing is that while Kubica, it could be argued, was merely moonlighting as a rally driver, Raikkonen has a proven track (or off-track) record in rallying. He did, after all, spend the last couple of seasons driving in the top-flight World Rally Championship for front-running team Citroën. For his part, Raikkonen wasn't looking to contest the entire WRC season while also racing in F1 again, but he wanted to drive in his home stage of Rally Finland this August, a race he's contested every year for the last three. BYD e6 taxi catches fire in China after crash caused by drunk Nissan GT-R driver

Still, electric vehicles come under a magnified lens, which is why reports of a BYD E6 taxi catching fire in Shenzhen, China caught our eye.BYD has been running all-electric E6s as taxis in Shenzhen since early 2010, which means there have been over two years of fire-less operations (as far as we know). Apparently, though, on 26 May three people riding in an E6 cab, including the driver, were killed in an accident. China Auto Web calls it "China's first fatal crash involving a high-speed pure-electric car" and notes that Shenzhen traffic police say that a drunk driver crashed a Nissan GT-R traveling at 112 miles per hour into the e6, which quickly caught fire then smashed into a third car, a gas-powered cab. The drunk driver ran from the scene, but later turned himself in. A person in the third car was lightly injured. This version of the story shows that the drunk GT-R driver is at fault, and we await news on if the E6's battery played a role in the fire. Report: Fiat to assemble Mazda models in Fiat and Chrysler plants?

When the deal was announced for Alfa Romeo to codevelop a roadster with Mazda to be based on the next-generation MX-5 Miata platform, further cooperation in Europe was mentioned as an aside. It could go beyond that, though, with Reuters reporting that that Fiat is open to building Mazdas in Fiat and Chrysler plants worldwide. Such an agreement would allow Fiat to address unutilized factory capacity and the platform-sharing necessary to the arrangement would lower development costs - a hot-button priority for both Fiat and Mazda. Lo que es cierto es que la próxima generación del Mustang tiene muchísimas papeletas para venderse en el Viejo Continente, y buena prueba de ello es que Ford está "examinando cuidadosamente" (cita textual) las reacciones en Europa a su campaña "Go Further". Aunque el Mustang solo puede conseguirse "de estraperlo" en la mayor parte de la Unión Europea, es uno de los protagonistas destacados de una serie de anuncios dedicados a mostrar el catálogo global de Ford, habituando así a los consumidores al futuro One Ford, con modelos diseñados a ambos lados del charco para ahorrar costes y simplificar el trabajo de su departamento de marketing. Report: UK man erects Jeremy Clarkson scarecrow to slow traffic

Shelia Hodgkinson and her son, Christopher, put up a scarecrow dressed as a police officer. The dummy wears a high-visibility vest, toy officer hat and wields a hair dryer for a radar gun. Amusingly, it also sports a printout of Jeremy Clarkson's face for a head. The ruse has been surprisingly effective at slowing drivers as they pass through the village of West Mickley. Neighbors say the scarecrow looks realistic enough, and so do some drivers, who admit it resulted in them cooling their jets as they pass through the village, which has a 30 mph speed limit. (Some also slow down just to gawk at the creation.)
