All five were previewed at the Los Angeles Auto Show last week and show five different "everyday" situations where the 500 acts as a catalyst to boost adrenaline levels. The first shows an attractive female driver suiting up for a spin around a track in the new electric-powered 500e. The drive goes well until the second turn when, obviously, something goes wrong. The 500e is all over the road and eventually careens off course in a cloud of dust. The support crew races to the car where the picturesque brunette is French-kissing a shirtless man behind the wheel. The spot ends with the tagline "Environmentally Sexy" above a rocking 500e. The second ad has two tuxedoed men in the front seat of a 500L trying to catch a glimpse of two young ladies changing into bridesmaid dresses in the back seat. It's mildly entertaining but gets better at the end when the surprise punchline carries home the message "More room. More possibilities." The third and fourth ads are also for the 500L and make clever twists on the "Very family friendly" tagline. Dear old Dad gets some sisterly jollies in one and in the other Junior gets a hearty welcome into his girlfriend's family. But Fiat saved the best for last. Remember that hot ad for the Fiat 500 Abarth that debuted in the 2012 Super Bowl? Called "Seduction," it starred supermodel Catrinel Menghia. Ms. Menghia returns with a scorpion co-star slowly inching its way up her bikini-covered back. As the new 500 Abarth Cabrio streaks by, the stinger-equipped arachnid makes a strategic clip with a claw and we get the tag, "Small, wicked... and now topless." So says Kevin See, a senior analyst of electric vehicles at Lux Research in Boston, told CNN. It's not a surprising thing to say, but it again shows commitments by automakers to develop hydrogen fuel-cell vehicles have been increasing lately. Toyota, Hyundai, Daimler and Honda all see them as vital alternative energy options, perhaps even more important than battery-electric vehicles.Hyundai has been planning to offer a fuel-cell version of its ix35 sport utility vehicle (known as the Tucson in the US) for lease by the end of this year. As for production, Hyundai will be building 1,000 fuel-cell cars by 2015, and beyond that, up to 10,000 fuel-cell cars a year. The company is committed to both fuel cell and battery-powered vehicles - fuel cells for heavier and mid-size cars and battery-powered for smaller ones, Byung Ki Ahn, general manager of fuel-cell research at Hyundai, told CNN.Toyota and Honda have both said they will release a fuel-cell car in 2015. Honda already has the FCX Clarity (pictured) available for lease in California, and Mercedes-Benz leases its F-Cell car in that same market. Just like with plug-in vehicles, infrastructure is key to H2 vehicles. That's why Honda, Toyota, Nissan and Hyundai have joined forces to expand the hydrogen fueling network throughout the Nordic region. They've agreed to a Memorandum of Understanding with government representatives from Denmark, Norway, Sweden and Iceland and are committed to supporting fuel-cell vehicle refueling infrastructure development from 2014 to 2017. Why are these automakers committed to rolling out fuel-cell vehicles? Stop us if you've heard this before, but the answer from the OEMs revolves around the fact that they can travel much farther than electric vehicles after a refueling, said refueling can be done in about five minutes and fuel cells are more adaptable to large vehicles like trucks and SUVs than battery-powered vehicles. They're considered by some to be the cleanest energy source for emissions, only releasing water vapor from the tailpipe, and come from the most abundant element in the universe. Still, the barriers to mass adoption of fuel-cell vehicles are steep. The price point is pretty high. For the two hydrogen-powered cars currently available in the US, the payments are much more than most consumers can stomach. The FCX Clarity is available for $600 a month on a three-year lease, while the F-Cell three-year lease goes for $849 a month, plus tax. The other problem is fueling stations. This time, shooters nabbed a five-door S1 Sportback prototype out for testing. Boasting the hallmark quad exhaust outlets of the Audi S models, this car is the best indication we've had so far that the automaker is considering an S1 in both three-door and five-door guises in the EU. Word has it the sporterized A1 would bow with a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with between 220 and 240 horsepower. That's a tick under the wicked A1 Quattro with its 252 horsepower mill. As you may recall, that machine was a limited production creation with a wild body kit and prominent rear spoiler. Something tells us the S1 Sportback prototype you see here is likely aimed at a wider audience. Photographers spotted it frolicking about in the snow with an S3. The concept is to create a vehicle that embodies all the Ford GT could have been had Ford not axed the supercar back in 2006. Called the GTR-1, the car will boast more than 1,000 horsepower as well as the buyer's choice of a body hewn from either aluminum or carbon fiber. That skin will get stretched over a standard Mustang GT. Each example will feature an interior built to the customer's specifications, though drivetrain and suspension details remain murky. From what we can tell, Galpin will release more details as we get closer to the GTR-1 launch early next year. Galpin has a long history of selling performance Ford products. It was the first dealer in history to sell Shelby Cobra models in the '60s, and hasn't hesitated to stand behind all manner of go-faster Mustang models over the past 50-plus years. This year's winner was the Subaru Highway Automated Response Concept, or SHARC. It envisioned automated, zero-emission highway patrolling. The 2012 edition of the challenge was to envision the future of highway patrol in the year 2025. The goal was to conceptualize a vehicle that would account for the needs of "dynamic urban environments." In addition to Subaru's participation in the contest BMW, General Motors, Honda and Mercedes-Benz, all took part in the challenge. The SHARC is essentially a law enforcement land-drone. It is entirely automated and runs on renewable energy. Subaru envisioned a future where the Hawaiian Islands are connected to each other by a large highway system. Such an expansive area would require considerable manpower to patrol. The concept of an autonomous patrol vehicle would eliminate the need for a good number of full-time personnel. Given the proliferation of UAVs and the ongoing development of autonomous cars, this notion of an automated patrol vehicle could be a reality in years to come. For this vision of the future, Subaru was awarded as the 2012 LA Design Challenger winner. Mitsubishi will provide USC with 12 all-electric i vehicles to be used on campus and around the LA basin. Part of the two-year Smart Grid Living Laboratory Project, the i vehicles will "work to further develop and improve virtually all phases of electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure to accommodate widespread EV usage in the future." They will do this by helping to simulate a city of around 55,000 people using both plug-in vehicles and other smart grid components. Mitsubishi will also provide "several" Level 2 chargers. A BMW product and pricing manager told Australian site Car Advice that a decision on putting a 12-cylinder in the next-generation car, due in 2016, hasn't been made yet. It appears that this decision isn't due exclusively to emissions (that V12 is quite a guzzler, after all), since the current 760Li sells in such low numbers - at $140,200 in the US, it's the most expensive offering we have from The Roundel, beating the Alpina B7 by nearly $13,000. It sounds like the emissions issue, along with other issues like design and technology, are dominating considerations for the line in general. Emphasis is being put on making sure the 7 Series is more differentiated from every other car in BMW's lineup, and while anything is possible, you can count us surprised if the next 7 Series shows up without a V12. A go-to source of urban decay porn, the plant has become a haven for graffiti artists of every caliber, arsonists, the homeless and scrappers looking to gut the structure of its steel for cash. Detroit's firefighters won't even enter the structure to put out blazes for fear of injury. The Detroit Free Press took it upon itself to investigate why the structure continues to be an issue for the city. As it turns out, the plant was slated for demolition around 1999, but the city failed to get its paperwork in order at the time and missed its chance. Now demolition is expected to cost more than $20 million, exceeding the value of the 35-acre site. While the Packard plant once boasted more than 3.5 million square feet under roof, it's now not even worth the effort of tearing it down. Since the greater Detroit area already has a preponderance of available land shovel-ready, the Packard site is at a disadvantage. But Detroit is currently making its way toward foreclosure, with the city already serving the current owner papers notifying him of $750,000 owed in back taxes. Even so, it may be years before the buildings come down. Along with destroying infrastructure and throwing into turmoil the lives of countless people who never thought their home would go toe-to-toe with a hurricane, Sandy also suppressed auto sales that month. But what Sandy taketh away, pent-up demand for the freedom of personal transport giveth back, as evidenced by the strong month of automobile sales in the US during the month of November. While low-volume brands like Fiat, Porsche and Smart lead our list, they're followed closely by a number or brands with a bit bigger audience that performed remarkably well. Subaru reported sales up nearly 60 percent to 28,206 units, while BMW saw a 45-percent to 21,213 units. No brand, however, can match the jump in raw number of vehicles sold that Honda reported, the Japanese automaker seeing sales rise 41 percent 104,224 units, a lift of 30,208 units compared to November 2011. Dodge (+32 percent) and Volkswagen (+29 percent) also reported healthy gains, while Toyota added 20,474 sales for an increase of 17 percent. As for the domestics, Chrysler Group reported a respectable 14 percent rise in sales thanks to the performance of Dodge, which more than offset a 3-percent decline at Jeep. Ford Motor Company posted a 6.5-percent increase, while General Motors reported a 3.4-percent increase thanks to strong numbers from Buick (+22 percent) and Cadillac (+30 percent). Lastly, we noticed one stand-out performer in this month's sales numbers, and that's the 2012 Honda Civic. Sales of the Civic were up 75.5 percent to 30,075 units, a number that beat the very-difficult-to-dethrone best-selling Camry's 28,765 units. We point this out because reception of the redesigned 2012 Civic was initially less-than-stellar, which led Honda to hastily revise the 2013 model with mechanical and styling tweaks that recent sales suggest, perhaps, weren't necessary, at least this soon.*Brands and companies are displayed in descending order according to their percentage change in volume sales. There were 25 selling days in November 2012 and 25 selling days in November 2011, so there is no difference between the change in monthly sales volume and the change in average daily sales rate (DSR) for each brand/company. Bill Fay, Toyota's vice president of marketing, is expecting sales of 200,000 units in 2013 - a jump over the projected 170,000 RAV4 models expected to be delivered in 2012. Since 2008, the RAV4 has never sold anything close to 200,000 units; the model's best year in recent times was 2010 when 170,877 models were moved. Actualmente los únicos Audi vendidos con motor diésel son los A3 Sportback (sólo en algunos estados) y el Q7 3.0 TDI Clean Diesel. A lo largo del 2013 completarán la oferta con los A6, A7 Sportback y A8 en la gama de turismos, y con el Q5 entre los todocamino. Chrysler. Nissan was able to get 225 Leafs to make a rather quiet ride along the Silverstone Formula Racetrack in the UK. The cars collectively made a trek of about two miles, with drivers coming from as far away as Belfast. And, no, none of the cars needed recharging. Nissan is looking to drum up good news for a model whose sales this year have lagged behind 2011 numbers. Last month, Nissan chief Carlos Ghosn admitted that his goal for the automaker to sell 20,000 Leafs in the US this year won't be met. The year-to-date tally through October was about 6,800, down 16 percent from 2011. That said, Ghosn still expects Nissan's EVs to account for 10 percent of its US sales and 8 percent of its worldwide sales by 2017. | Posted: 03 Dec 2012 01:02 PM PST  Followup: Ferrari's Montezemolo slams Ecclestone over Vettel overtake investigation Filed under: MotorsportsSebastion Vettel recently celebrated his third Formula One title by driving his Red Bull Racing car through the streets of Graz, Austria, but Ferrari is still caught up in the controversy it stirred up by asserting that Vettel made an illegal pass under yellow at the Brazilian Grand Prix. After Ferrari asked for clarification on the pass, Bernie Ecclestone called the whole issue a "complete joke," and now Luca di Montezemolo, president of Ferrari (shown above), has responded to Ecclestone's comments with some scathing words of his own. According to ESPN F1, Montezemolo sarcastically said "you have to show respect for your elders, especially when they get to that stage in which they are no longer in control of what they say" in regards to Ecclestone. Seemingly putting the whole controversy to rest, though, Montezemolo went on to congratulate Vettel and Red Bull for the win in what he refers to as a difficult season. The pass in question came on the fourth lap of the rainy race when Vettel seemed to have passed Toro Rosso driver Jean-Eric Vergne under a local yellow. In the final standings, the resulting 20-second penalty would have knocked Vettel from sixth to eighth position, which would have been enough for Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso to win the Driver's Championship by a single point. Buyers can now get their hands on both of Millen's 2011 Hyundai Veloster Global RallyCross racers. Both cars competed in the 2011 and 2012 Global RallyCross championships as well as the X-Games. Expect to find a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with a 45mm restrictor, and both cars come with a spate of spares to get you racing and keep you there. Both of those machines will be for sale staring January 1, 2013. No pricing has been released for either as of yet, but we've reached out to see about how much the machines will cost you. Want something a little more... different? RMR has also put up a 2001 Hyundai Accent WRC EVO 3.5. The team bought the car to supply parts for its other racing efforts, and while most of the components were stripped for the Global RallyCross cars, the chassis itself was never used. Right now, the machine can be set up as either a left-hand or right-hand driver, and comes with plenty of spares as well. If you want it, shine up your $135,000 and contact RMR by heading over to the team's site.
