Now, with the car about to hit dealers, we're getting our first look at the company's advertising direction for its high-volume compact car. Done as a comic-book-style action cartoon, this video is for the sportier Civic Si models and is obviously geared toward younger, more enthusiast-oriented buyers. In the video, our two hero drivers pilot a Civic Si coupe and sedan against a bunch of Mad Max-like vehicles with Tron-like consequences. Like any good commercial, this ad crams many of the car's key features into the two-minute video showing off new features like Bluetooth and a text message reader. | Posted: 15 Dec 2012 03:13 PM PST  Ugur Sahin returns with Rolls Royce Jonckheere Aerodynamic Coupe II design Filed under: Classics, Coupe, Rolls-Royce, Design/Style, LuxuryThe "Round Door" Rolls-Royce Phantom I Aerodynamic Coupe (inset) is a magnificent black beast of a car (and you can see it at the Petersen Automotive Museum for a limited time) as well as a mystery: designed by the Jonckheere Works in Belgium in 1935, all records for the one-of-a-kind coupe were destroyed in World War II, so no one knows who designed it or who commissioned it. What remains of the original coachbuilding company now makes bodies for cars and buses, and has asked designer Ugur Sahin to reinterpret the most fabulous car from its history. We've written about Sahin often before, recently about his Corvette-based Anandi being shown at Top Marques Monaco and going into production. For a man who favors long hoods and short bodies, this particular Rolls-Royce couldn't be better. Sahin says the word "Respect" guided his lines for the 77-year-old car, the most apparent changes being the front fender treatment, the headlights dropping into the fenders, and the serious downsizing of the fin at the rear. Sahin says that there are talks with potential investors about building a one-off. De momento no hay confirmación alguna para el español, pero Volkswagen ya había comunicado hace unas semanas que el Up! comenzaría su manufactura local en 2013. Con esta información podríamos pensar qué, como casi siempre, sólo el Volkswagen llegaría a producción pero da la casualidad que en estos días en la oficina de patentes china ha aparecido el SEAT Mii entre otros tantos productos de nueva factura. Hill had his Ford F-350 Super Duty covered in 856 Christmas lights to help raise awareness to his charity, One Spark Can Start a Fire, when a Wichita police officer pulled him over and ticketed him for being a distraction on the road and illegally displaying red and blue lights on a vehicle (although it's hard to believe that anyone could confuse this truck for any sort of emergency vehicle). The lights were attached to the truck using magnets and powered by an 8,000-Watt generator mounted in the bed of the truck. The lights are a great way to draw local attention to his charity, but Hill sees the ticket as a way he can draw even more attention to One Spark, which is a non-profit organization intent on performing random acts of kindness such as collecting clothes and providing food for the homeless, according to the organization's Facebook page. No less an authority than our old friend Damon Lavrinc over at Wired has blessed the upgrade. Lavrinc calls Tesla's upgrades a "solid, feature-rich update" that overcomes what had been "egregious oversights" for an automaker steeped in technological advancements. Some of the improvements of note include better, simpler voice-command features for navigation and radio control, which is handled through a on-board 3G modem. The driver can call saved contacts through Bluetooth, while the software allows for more user customization on steering-wheel knobs to include temperature control. The graphics showing the car's battery range are also improved. As we already heard, the new Model S software includes a so-called "sleep mode," in which the vehicle takes slightly longer to fully power up but also allows it to get another eight miles of range for every day that the car is not used and not plugged in, compared to a Model S that just sits in normal off mode while unplugged. The software can be downloaded via the on-board modem while the vehicle is in operation, and can take anywhere from 20 minutes to two hours. Two years ago we went to the Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles to meet one of the original Black Beauty Chrysler Imperials from The Green Hornet television show. When the work was done, we were asked if we wanted a tour of the underground vault, to which we of course consented. We were instructed, however, "You can't mention this to anyone." And we didn't. Now it's a secret that won't need to be kept if you're in LA from December 15 to January 6. The Petersen is opening its vault to the public for the holidays, offering guided tours of the roughly 250 cars in the stash to groups of 10 or fewer. You'll need an additional $25 ticket on top of the $12 museum ticket, but the metal in the photo above will immediately prove its worth. If you haven't seen the "Round Door" Rolls-Royce Phantom I Aerodynamic Coupe, that is worth the price of entry by itself. Each tour will last for more than an hour, so you won't worry about being rushed. You won't be able to take photos, however, and those under 12 will not be allowed. Bush was known as much for the many liberties he took with the English language as he was for being a Texan, and, in the latter regard, it is not all that surprising that the 43rd President's truck of choice was a Ford F-150... the key word here, of course, being was. The truck used by the former president around his Crawford, TX ranch, a 2009 Ford F-150 King Ranch 4x4 SuperCrew, will be auctioned off at Barrett-Jackson next month with the proceeds of the sale going to the Fisher House Foundation. President Bush bought the truck new in 2009, and used it to drive around his ranch with families and dignitaries. As a part of the auction, President Bush autographed the instrument panel, and there will also be an accompanying video of him signing and driving the truck. It isn't clear how many miles are on the F-150, but it sounds like not too many, if any, were from driving on public roads. "I haven't driven on a street in many, many years, but I have been able to drive this truck on my ranch," said President Bush. "I want to thank all those who are supporting the Fisher House. In supporting the Fisher House, you're supporting our veterans. And in supporting our veterans, you're helping America." And every single year, tons of people try to win them. So even though scale-model cars are as detailed as the real thing, R/C cars can go faster than and do things that real cars can't, and real cars have previously unthinkable amounts of power and tricks that toy cars still haven't even imagined, folks continue to queue up for an artfully carved chunk of wood. That kind of timeless appeal is what got Italian designer Matteo Ragni to start TobeUs. Tired of seeing his children quickly bored with toys, he wanted to create a toy that his kids would love, that had "a recognizable smell, an unquestioned resistance to impact and texting" and the ability to be recycled or reused at the end of its life. The result is little and terrifically simple wooden cars carved from a single block of cedar. The effort, 100% TobeUs, now features 100 wooden cars from 100 designers, and there's an exhibit - called 100% TobeUs: 100 Designers for 100 New Toy Cars - at the Natural Museum of Science and Technology in Milan, Italy, to go with it. A few of the cars can be bought as toys, but all of them can be viewed on the TobeUs site. They all come with the names of their designers, but most of the captions are in Italian. Si bien es cierto que fue BMW quien abrió la veda con las dos generaciones de Serie 3 Compact, lo hizo de manera tímida y sus ventas nunca fueron destacadas. En 2004, lanza el Serie 1 3 puertas (E81), pronto le sigue el de 5 puertas (E87), el Coupé (E82) y el Cabrio (E88); estos dos últimos siguen en producción. Esta primera versión se reveló todo un éxito comercial. Es un coche que nos gustó mucho, por sus prestaciones y su refinamiento mecánico. De hecho, desde 2004 se han vendido ya más de 2 millones de Serie 1. Por otra parte, es cierto que, a excepción del genial 1M Coupé, tenía apartados en los que debía mejorar. El hecho de querer seguir fiel a una arquitectura de tracción trasera y motor longitudinal -como todo buen BMW que se precie- en el segmento C obligó a ciertas concesiones. El espacio que ocupan el motor y la transmisión en una caja compacta hicieron que la habitabilidad trasera del Serie 1 fuese, digamos, bastante comprometida. El otro punto que nos decepcionó mucho fue el del comportamiento dinámico. A pesar de su tradicional arquitectura, no se movía como un BMW "normal"; su conducción no era gratificante y su comportamiento para nada noble. Para colmo, los acabados tampoco estaban a la altura del resto de la gama. El nuevo Serie 1 (F20) llegó con la difícil tarea de mejorar ahí donde defraudó el E81/E82. Ford's Fusion and C-Max Hybrids came up about 20 percent short of the official EPA 47-mile-per-gallon figured the US automaker has advertised. Ford has introduced a half-dozen new hybrids to the US public this year. Ford has allowed that hybrid fuel economy can be swayed far more by driving styles than the fuel economy of conventionally powered vehicles. As you might now, Hyundai admitted to a problem earlier this year and is compensating customers. So far this year, Ford has boosted its hybrid sales with the C-Max Hybrid, which has bettered the competing Toyota Prius V wagon in sales in each of last two months. Great-grandson Bill Ford Jr. did his part by purchasing the oldest known Ford vehicle, a 1903 Model A, and returning it to its birthplace. While the Model A was purchased at auction back in October, the red Rear Entry Tonneau just recently received an official unveil at an employee event. Ford partnered with the MotorCities National Heritage Area and the Henry Ford Heritage Association to create a year-long calendar of events celebrating Henry Ford and his company. This particular Model A is car number 3, chassis number 30. Prior to rejoining the Ford family, it had enjoyed just five owners in its 109-year history. Originally sold to a butter maker from Iowa for the princely sum of $850, the Model A was sold to a Swiss Ford dealer in 1961. The dealer displayed his purchase in the Ford European Center in Cologne, Germany until 2001, when it was finally sold to John O'Quinn in 2007 before Ford Jr. took possession this year. El motor gira entonces a 22.500 rpm. Puede que el Traxxas X0-1 sea un coche a escala 1/7, pero sus prestaciones en términos absolutos son superiores a la de numerosos coches a escala 1. Presentado hace un año, equipa una tracción integral y acelera de 0 a 160 km/h en menos de 5 segundos.
