Official: Honda drops full details about incredibly adorable N-One
Filed under: Budget, Japan, Hatchback, HondaHonda Japan has dropped all of the savory details about its new Kei car, the cute 'n cuddly N-One. The N-One builds on the JDM-only N line for the automaker, which already produces an N Box and N Box+ for Japanese consumers. The boxy Kei car will offer two powerplants displacing 660cc each, one naturally aspirated and one turbocharged, as well as both front- and all-wheel- drive configurations. All N-One models rely on a continuously variable transmission. Honda isn't giving up the goods in terms of output figures for the N-One engines, save to say that the turbo will have performance "equivalent to a vehicle in the 1.3L class." We are, of course, super jealous of all Kei car experiences, but that's particularly true here, as the N-One's pert, rounded-box looks bring Honda's N360/N600 styling cues up to date, and the city car's funky interior treatment make us positively green with envy. Video: Global RallyCross comes to Vegas with SEMA [UPDATE]

Beginning in 2010 at the X Games, the series races on short tracks made partly of asphalt and partly of dirt, along with a signature variation called the Joker Lap, in which drivers are required to take an alternate, slightly longer route that generally incorporates a 70-foot gap jump. The final event for the 2012 season took place just across the street from the SEMA Show in Las Vegas, and those of us covering the event for Autoblog scored a birds-eye view of the track from our hotel rooms. Fortunately for those who weren't able to attend, X Games decided to upload the entire final to YouTube. For those keeping track, Tanner Foust took the victory, clinching the Global RallyCross Championship for the second year in a row. The race had to be restarted after Ken Block's car started billowing ominous-looking black smoke from underhood. If you're interested, GoPro stitched together a brief video reel of highlights, along with some skate footage from an empty pool, from driver Bucky Lasek. Report: Ireland faces its own frustrations over slow electric vehicle sales
Filed under: Emerging Technologies, EV/Plug-in, Legislation and Policy Ireland is facing a roadblock just like the one in a few of the country's European Union allies: sales of electric vehicles (EVs) are much lower than initially projected. While the goal had been to sell 2,000 units in Ireland by the end of 2011, only 192 have been sold so far. When the campaign was launched in Ireland, the target was to sell enough EVs to make up 10 percent of all new vehicles by the end of 2020. That would be about 7,000 cars a year at the current new vehicle sales rate. Consumers have paid about 23,300 euros ($29,900 US) for every electric car sold so far. The Sustainable Energy Ireland agency has invested 573,600 euros ($735,800) in grants to buyers of EVs, which has helped reduce the cost for consumers. The Renault Fluence ZE is priced at 22,000 euros ($28,000), which doesn't include the batteries that must be leased separately. The Nissan Leaf costs 30,000 euros ($38,400). As for other Irish government investments, so far about 3.9 million euros ($5m) have been spent on charging station installations for public, domestic and business use. The charging infrastructure is behind the initial target - 1,500 charging points and 40 fast chargers were to be in place by the end of 2011. As 2012 comes to a conclusion, 860 public chargers and 30 fast chargers have been installed. To simplify the charging process, consumers now have access to a nationwide charger payment program. Ireland's Electricity Supply Board (ESB), which oversees the power grid, has teamed with IBM to implement a smart charging platform that enables drivers to roam across the country and pay for electricity using one card. Automakers such as Toyota, GM, Volvo, BMW and Ford are introducing plug-in electric vehicles to ease consumer acceptance of the new technology, with the assumption these extended range vehicles will do better than pure EVs. How to bridge the gap with Irish consumers is still troubling for automakers and government officials. To Paddy Comyn of Volkswagen Group Ireland, it's extremely difficult to reach consumers with new technology in its infancy during rough economic times. Official: Dodge announces Blacktop packages for 2013 Avenger, Challenger, Charger [w/video]

The Avenger sedan, Challenger R/T coupe and Charger R/T V8 sedan will all be available with the optional darker appearance package beginning in December of this year. For the Avenger, the Blacktop pack adds a gloss black grille, dark-tinted headlamp bezels, a body-colored rear spoiler and unique 18-inch gloss black aluminum wheels. And if you don't want to go for the full-on murdered out black car approach, Dodge will offer the Blacktop package on Avengers painted in red, white, tungsten and silver, as well. Here on the 2013 Avenger, the Blacktop treatment adds $595 to the car's MSRP, and can even be had with additional options like the 3.6-liter Pentastar V6, premium audio system and navigation - for some extra coin. The Challenger Blacktop starts as an R/T coupe with the 5.7-liter Hemi V8 and adds unique appearance touches like 20-inch gloss black wheels, a blacked-out grille, blacked-out fuel door and a new matte graphite body stripe with red accents. Blacktop models also come standard with the Challenger's Super Track Pak, adding Goodyear Eagle F1 tires, higher-performance brakes, a better steering ratio, monotube shock absorbers and three-mode stability control. Ticking the Blacktop option will add $1,995 to the Challenger R/T's bottom line. Finally, Dodge is expanding its Blacktop package to include the Hemi V8-powered Charger sedan, and the same sort of sinister treatment is found therein. Los nuevos modelos de Cinturx tomarán la base de vehículos ya descatalogados por sus socios. El primero en llegar será un derivado del anterior Mazda3. Por el momento serán vendidos como Changa Cinturx y una vez este nombre sea conocido comenzarán a operar como firma independiente. Bajo el capó de la berlina encontramos el mismo motor de 1,6 litros y 105 CV que lleva el original mientras que la estética apenas difiere en el frontal, estrenando paragolpes y logicamente también el emblema de la firma. La presentación oficial de los Cinturx tendrá lugar durante el próximo Salón del Automóvil de Guangzhou, si bien la comercialización no comenzará hasta los primeros días del 2013. For 295 British pounds (about $472 US dollars), owners can now buy a kit that will make the little EV winter proof. Or, at least, a little bit more protected. The Twizy doesn't have a heater, after all. The optional device - also kind of known as a window - is applied to Twizy's gullwing doors to make the small two-seater adaptable to the environment. The Renault weather protection program comes in two parts - one is a rigid metal frame that gets attached to the door, and the other is a transparent layer that is fastened to the frame. No tools are needed to install the kit, no bodywork modification is required and it can be easily removed by the owner when spring returns. The system has been extensively tested by Renault to ensure its resistance to UV light, corrosion and cold temperatures. It goes on sale through the Renault network starting in late November. The Twizy is one part of the Renault-Nissan alliance's ambitious plan for global electric vehicle domination. Renault and Nissan have so far committed to an overall investment of $5 billion in battery-electric vehicle development. The Galant has 3.9 tires in the automotive grave, and the only hope for mainstream excitement, the Eclipse coupe and Spyder, had hemlock poured down their crankcases last year. Increasing the quotient of bleak, the Lancer isn't due for a refresh until 2014, the coming Outlander PHEV will sell in miniscule numbers when it does arrive, a little sports car has been nixed and the only other Mitsu being considered for our landmass is the Colt, which, for its stellar fuel economy numbers, looks like a car designed by Pikachu. There's also that matter of declining NA market share in a rising overall market, Mitsubishi's piece of the total pie currently hovering around the 0.4-percent mark according to Automotive News. The company has decided to do more about it, reassigning Executive Vice President and Head Officer of the Headquarters Product Projects & Strategy Group Gayu Uesugi to be the new chairman of Mitsubishi Motors North America. It will be the first time in five years that someone has filled the chairman position at MMNA. The hope is that with Uesugi's 35 years with the company, his experience in the company's global product plan and his success in emerging market strategy, he's the man to "[develop] a product plan and growth strategy for the US market" that will put things right. Consumer Reports announces top 10 most reliable American cars

The researchers chewed through their data to come up with the vehicles in each segment that garnered a reliability rating of "average" or better, while also scoring high enough in Consumer Reports testing to earn a "recommended" rating. Chevrolet took home five of the slots, with General Motors products soaking up two more for good measure. That left Ford and Chrysler to scrap over the remaining two spots. Ford walked off with the Sporty Cars category with the V6 Mustang, while Chrysler nabbed the Upscale Cars title with the Chrysler 300. The Chevrolet Sonic, Volt, Traverse, Equinox and Avalanche all earned accolades, as did the Cadillac CTS, Buick Enclave and GMC Terrain. Report: Ford trademarks "Black Label" for Lincoln

Seeking a pass into the true luxury club, could Lincoln soon have a line of Black Label cars to call its own? Parent company Ford trademarked the phrase "Lincoln Black Label" last month, and not only do we not have any clue what it might signify, the company might never apply the name to anything. It's an interesting way to go, though; Black Label is a hugely popular appellation for everything from soap to fashion to something called a "pore penetrator," and it's almost always meant to signify an appreciable notch above the norm. The question is, what kind of Lincoln could wear that badge and not be accused of being a cynical marketing exercise? Even on a Ford forum one poster wrote, "While I think that would be an awesome use of Black label unfortunately Lincoln doesn't have any vehicles nor the platform to back that up." It would also be a departure from how Lincoln has signified its special lines until recently. Designer cars that began in the seventies, like the Cartier Town Car and Emilio Pucci Mark IV, gave way to the generic Designer trim level and then Signature Limited (itself a step above the Signature L) that was last used on the 2011 Lincoln Town Car. The present offerings are only differentiated by engines, lacking an equivalent of Ford's Titanium branding - on the MKS even the options packages are called "Equipment Group 20XA" - and this could be how Black Label finds a home. Soybean farmers, through their checkoff program, are supporting the National Tractor Pullers Association spreading the word about biodiesel among tractor pulling fans. It will be showcased by NTPA allowing the use of 100 percent biodiesel in all diesel pulling competition classes starting next season.NPTA is an association supported by Midwest farmers and government officials to maintain industry standards and excellence through competitive events. As for soybean checkoff, this is a national standard that soybean groups enacted years ago to comply with federal agriculture regulations. The idea behind the NPTA and soybean farmer alliance is to increase biodiesel demand by proving the performance benefits of biodiesel. A recent industry study found that using B100 biodiesel in a pulling tractor can add up to four percent more horsepower and torque over traditional diesel. Biodiesel is also valued by agribusiness for improving mileage, cetane and lubricity, reducing greenhouse-gas emissions, and improving independence from foreign oil. The United Soybean Board has been working with the NTPA for the past six years to help increase biodiesel availability and use among pulling fans. Another part of this biodiesel farmer competition that should go over well with Romney or Obama is that the Environmental Protection Agency recently announced it will require an increase of biodiesel next year - to 1.28 billion gallons of biodiesel under the Renewable Fuel Standard.
