En cuanto al acumulado del año, entre enero y septiembre se han vendido 207.063 unidades, lo que implica un aumento del 2,2% en relación al mismo periodo registrado un año antes cuando se matricularon 202.544 unidades. In the good old days before every car sported cameras, however, it wasn't like that. Graham Hill, double World Championship winner and father of Damon Hill, was asked to describe a lap of Monaco in 1968. He won the race five times in his tragically shortened career, and the so-called King of Monaco explained a lap the good old-fashioned way: he told a story and took time to focus on the good bits. Europa: El sensor de presión de los neumáticos, obligatorio desde noviembre
Filed under: Industria A partir del próximo mes de noviembre todos los coches de nueva presentación en Europa deberán incluir de serie el sensor de presión de los neumáticos. Esta normativa se suma a las anteriores presentadas por la Unión Europea y que obliga a la instalación del control de estabilidad y, desde hace ya muchos años, también el ABS y el airbag para el conductor. Con la entrada en vigor de esta nueva ley se pretende evitar que los conductores se olviden del estado de las ruedas, ahorrando en combustible y mejorando lógicamente la seguridad vial. Los sensores homologados deberán contar con un receptor inalámbrico en cada neumático y un indicador visual o sonoro que avise al conductor de qué la presión no es la correcta. Este sistema tiene que notificar cada vez que se enciende el vehículo de ello, antes de iniciar la marcha. Todos los vehículos que sean presentados a partir del 1 de noviembre para el mercado europeo deberán llevarlo, si bien para aquellos que ya están a la venta el plazo se alarga hasta el 1 de noviembre de 2014. Official: Smart highways can charge EVs, give weather warnings

Designer Daan Roosegaarde is teaming up with Heijmans Infrastructure to dream up smart highway lanes that not only give drivers weather information by "glowing" but will eventually be able to help recharge electric vehicles. Presented at Dutch Design Week this week, the "glowing" concept involves using a special paint on highways that will glow at night for as long as 10 hours and will allow drivers better safety by, for instance, illuminating ice crystals on the road. That advancement may be on Netherlands highways as soon as next year. Additionally, the designer is proposing the installation of induction coils in some Dutch highways. Those would be able to wirelessly charge electric-drive vehicles while they are in motion. Which, while not the only time we've heard of something like this, would be really cool. Official: BMW announces 2013 M3 Frozen Edition in Red, White and Blue
Filed under: Coupe, Performance, BMW If you weren't fortunate enough to grab one of the 19 sinister-looking Frozen Black Edition M3 Coupes back in 2011, BMW has a new ultra-limited M3 for you to dream about. The 2013 BMW M3 Coupe Frozen Limited Edition goes on sale in January with a starting price of $76,395 including destination, and unlike previous Frozen Edition models, this latest one will be offered in three different matte colors: Frozen Red, Frozen White and Frozen Blue. The price for the Frozen Limited Edition is a premium of more than $16,000 compared to a base M3 Coupe, but in addition to the car's exclusivity, BMW made sure to include plenty of added content. In the styling department, the M3 Coupe Frozen Limited Edition rides on matte black, 19-inch wheels, adds glossy black accents on the grille, fender vents and exhaust outlets, and has the carbon fiber roof panel. The cabin features black and carbon leather throughout, with contrast stitching that matches the car's exterior color. A handful of options are also offered on the Frozen Limited Edition, like the M-DCT gearbox, BMW Individual audio system, and heated front seats. Video: IIHS says booster seats are getting better, releases 2012 report
Filed under: Safety The Insurance Institute of Highway Safety has released its latest booster seat test results which show seat makers are more than ever designing better products. The agency looked at 17 booster seats newly introduced for 2012. All but two of those have been added to the list of Best Bet booster seats which now totals 47. "Booster manufacturers have risen to the Institute's challenge to improve seat design, giving parents more choices than ever when shopping for a booster that will provide a good, safe fit for their children," says Anne McCartt, Institute senior vice president for research, in a press release. The Institute does not crash test booster seats, but instead checks to make sure a car's seat belts properly fit the seat and the child. A correct fit means the lap belt lies flat across the child's thighs and the shoulder belt crosses snugly over the middle of the shoulder. The two low-ranked boosters for 2012 are the Safety 1st All-inOne and Safety 1st Alpha Omega Elite. Both are older 3-in-1 designs made my Dorel Juvenile Group Inc. The two seats can convert between a rear-facing infant seat, front facing child seat, and booster for larger children. Troller R-X Concept is a Brazilian Ford Bronco for the new age

The T4, still in production, looks like a Jeep Wrangler hooked up with an old Ssangyong Korando and a snorkel. With Ford blood coursing through its design offices, the TR-X concept shown off at the São Paulo Auto Show looks like a Wrangler hooked up with an old Bronco and Toyota FJ Cruiser behind one of the booths at SEMA. The TR-X is said to symbolize the essence of Toller, and while it hasn't been approved for production, we have a feeling that an appropriate response from the Brazilian public could give it a chance of seeing daylight. Muchas de esas unidades tenían como destino principal el mercado británico, pero además de la llegada de la cuarta generación, la firma francesa ha tenido un mal año en ese país, acumulando un stock casi imposible de mantener. Para dar salida a esas unidades complicadas de vender, la firma francesa los ha rebautizado con la denominación que tienen en Japón, Lutecia, y los promociona con precios más accesibles (aunque siempre altos debido a los aranceles). El Lutecia Initiale París se combina con el motor 1.6i 16v de 110 CV y la caja automática de cuatro relaciones. Official: GM pumping $450M into Argentine plant for new model
Filed under: Plants/Manufacturing, GM, South AmericaGeneral Motors has announced that it will invest $450 million in its Rosario Automotive Complex in Argentina between 2013 and 2015. The cash will go toward tooling up for an all-new Chevrolet product to be exported globally. Details concerning what that new vehicle could be or where exactly it will be sold are nil, though GM said it will be based on a current global platform and that it will serve both regional and domestic markets. All told, the Rosario plant built 135,000 vehicles last year, and the influx of cash will help expand that operation considerably. Report: Mercedes-Benz exec promises C-Class convertible

The new C-Class is expected out next year as a 2014 model, and it will be the first time the C-Class has ever directly offered a drop-top model, likely to be called the C-Class Cabriolet. Previously, the CLK-Class acted as a convertible based on the smaller C-Class, but it was sized and generally thought of as an E-Class model. There are no concrete details about this new car, but it's almost certain to be the most affordable convertible in the Mercedes lineup, slotting in under the $42,900 SLK-Class roadster well below the $59,070 E-Class Cabriolet. Cars such as the C-Class Cabriolet and the all-new CLA-Class are an attempt to draw younger buyers into the Mercedes family, according to Steve Cannon, CEO of Mercedes-Benz USA. De ahí el auge de los motores turbo de pequeña cilindrada en los compactos. En el caso de los utilitarios, algunas marcan van hasta proponer motores de menos de 4 cilindros, como el genial Fiat 500 TwinAir y su 2 cilindros de 105 CV. Sin embargo, nadie hasta ahora se había atrevido a equipar un familiar compacto con un motor con menos de 4 cilindros y de una cilindrada muy pequeña. Ford se ha atrevido. El Focus 1.0 Ecoboost equipa un 3 cilindros de 999 cc para mover un coche de 4,50 m de largo, como en el caso del Sportbreak, y algo más de 1.300 kg. En teoría parece una tarea un poco ardua y una apuesta arriesgada. ¿Cómo convencer a un cliente acostumbrado a un 4 cilindros de 1.6 litros, de media, que este diminuto propulsor que ocupa el espacio de un folio A4 es más que suficiente para mover su coche? Los responsables de Ford tuvieron la respuesta más lógica y aplastante posible, "que prueben el coche". Report: BMW i4 coming to LA?

The blog, citing France-based L'Automobile, says BMW will unveil its all-electric i4 concept car at the Los Angeles Auto Show next month. The i4 will likely be a sportier version of the i3 city EV. The car will have two doors, instead of the i3's four doors, and will likely retail for north of $50,000 whenever it becomes available to the public. Reports started surfacing last August that BMW would introduce i4 and i5 models to complement its i3 and i8 vehicles for the German automaker's i sub-brand of electric-drive vehicles.
