Zo verberg je je kentekenplaat in China
Met tandpasta? Hells no, met bacon! Video: Artist Liu Bolin helps Ford Fusion stand out by making rivals blend in
Filed under: Sedan, Marketing/Advertising, Ford, Design/Style Liu Bolin, the world-renowned Chinese artist famous for painting himself to camouflage into the background of an image, has teamed up with Ford for its latest advertisement for the 2013 Ford Fusion. The print ads aim to highlight how the styling of the new Fusion makes other midsize sedan "disappear." (The obvious joke here would be, "Does it really take this much work to make the Toyota Camry look invisible?"). The easy way out for the Blue Oval would've been to turn to computer programmers to work their magic, but instead, Ford opted to turn to the master illusionist. Bolin worked with Ford to take Fusion rivals like the Volkswagen Passat, Camry and Honda Accord (and, for some reason, an Audi A4) and paint them to blend into various backgrounds right down to the landscaping, buildings and sidewalks. Ford has thoughtfully provided us with a time lapse video from a few different angles, but there's no telling how long each shot actually took to create in real time. You'll probably start seeing these print ads showing up in magazines pretty soon, but you can see a making-of video below and then check out one of the campaign's first print ads below.Continue reading Artist Liu Bolin helps Ford Fusion stand out by making rivals blend inArtist Liu Bolin helps Ford Fusion stand out by making rivals blend in originally appeared on Autoblog on Thu, 25 Oct 2012 20:00:00 EST. Lingenfelter Retrokits ape 1969 Camaro, with or without RS hideaway lights
Filed under: Aftermarket, Coupe, Performance, Chevrolet, Design/Style If by some miracle you find the fifth-generation Chevrolet Camaro too modern for your tastes, Lingenfelter has a solution. Behold the company's new Retrokits packages; full aesthetic workovers designed to give the Chevrolet a few tweaks from the '69 RS playbook. Those include an entirely new front fascia, complete with a chin spoiler and the buyer's choice of either exposed headlamps or hidden RS-style units. Lingenfelter swapped the original wheels for pieces designed to invoke the rally pieces found on the original '69. From where we sit, we're not sure the look is an improvement, and the stick-on chrome dress-up for the rear quarter gills certainly don't do the machine any favors. Camaro owners may buy the Retrokits package for installation by a local body shop or have Lingenfelter do the work in house. Prices start at $6,850, not including the man-hours to bolt the bits in place. Ask Lingenfelter to paint and install, and you'll be looking at a sticker of around $8,550. Zing. Check out the full press blast below.Continue reading Lingenfelter Retrokits ape 1969 Camaro, with or without RS hideaway lightsLingenfelter Retrokits ape 1969 Camaro, with or without RS hideaway lights originally appeared on Autoblog on Thu, 25 Oct 2012 19:01:00 EST. Report: Mitsubishi boss labels French minister a "retard" for "ruining the lives of motorists"
Filed under: Etc., Europe, Mitsubishi Arnaud Montebourg (pictured), French Minister of Industrial Recovery, was recently the target of a rather despicable slur at the hands of Mitsubishi France's leader, Jean-Claude Debard. Frustrated by Montebourg's attempts to encourage the purchase of lower emitting vehicles and discourage use of high-emission vehicles - by way of tax breaks and tax hikes, respectively - Debard reportedly used the occasion of a new product launch to call the minister "stupid," a "mental case" and a "retard" before members of the media. Here's the full quote, as reported by the French newspaper La Provence by way of The Telegraph: "This mental case, this retard, increases ecological taxes, reduces the speed motorists can go on Paris' ring road and ruins the life of motorists from all social origins all suffer as a result of him. He is stupid and understands nothing, you can quote me on that." And quote him they did, it seems. Mitsubishi's Debard may have legitimate points to make about the French tax structure's effect on the automotive sector in that country, but finding a more level-headed way to get his thoughts across to the media would probably be a more effective strategy if he wants people to take him seriously. His use of the word "retard" reminds of a recent similar statement by American political pundit Ann Coulter that triggered a firestorm of criticism. The response to that tweet, quite eloquently answered by John Franklin Stephens of the Special Olympics, might serve as recommended reading for Debard, as well. No word on what, if any, reaction the Japanese automaker has to Debard's statements.Mitsubishi boss labels French minister a "retard" for "ruining the lives of motorists" originally appeared on Autoblog on Thu, 25 Oct 2012 19:30:00 EST. Report: All-electric Fiat 500E confirmed for LA Auto Show
Filed under: EV/Plug-in, Fiat, LA Auto Show It looks like the all-electric version of the Fiat 500 will make its official debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show next month. No word on whether Fiat CEO Sergio Marchionne will bring the house down with his "we don't really want to build this car" routine. The LA Auto Show has confirmed that the 500E will be one of the models revealed at the convention, but organizers didn't disclose further details about price, performance or potential on-sale date (best to leave that to Fiat anyhow, right?). Green Car Reports estimates that the car will be available only in limited numbers and that it will have an electric motor delivering about 100 horsepower. Marchionne said in February that it would start making an all-electric 500 by the end of 2012, and the Italian automaker has been talking about the car since Chrysler unveiled a 500 BEV concept at the 2010 Detroit Auto Show, but has been pretty mum on the subject ever since.All-electric Fiat 500E confirmed for LA Auto Show originally appeared on Autoblog Green on Thu, 25 Oct 2012 18:31:00 EST. Filed under: EV/Plug-in, Green Culture, Hybrid, MPG, Dodge, Ford, Mazda, Toyota Ladies and Gentlemen, your finalists for the 2013 Green Car of the Year: the Dodge Dart Aero, Ford C-Max and Fusion, Mazda CX-5 and Toyota Prius C. The list runs the gamut of fuel-efficient powertrains, from hybrids and plug-ins to high-mileage gas burners. The Fords, for example, make the list in part because they come in both hybrids and plug-in hybrid flavors. The GCOTY is sponsored by Green Car Journal every year, and the publication looks for vehicles a lot of people will want to buy. Specifically, GCJ's press release says, "All are affordable mass-market products that provide drivers full functionality and mainstream appeal, paving the way for making a difference in fuel use and overall emissions in daily driving." These five vehicles are also the cars that Green Car Journal is calling the "Top 5 Green Cars for 2013." From here, GCJ's jury of "top environmental leaders" along with celeb car buff Jay Leno and the GCJ staff will pick a winner. Past Green Car of the Year winners have been the Honda Civic Natural Gas (2012), the Chevrolet Volt (2011), the Audi A3 TDI (2010), the Volkswagen Jetta TDI (2009) and the Chevrolet Tahoe Hybrid (2008).

Gallery: Fisker Karma SEMA Show 2012 (previo) Share TweetIncluso el Fisker Karma estará presente en el SEMA Show 2012 originally appeared on Autoblog Español on Thu, 25 Oct 2012 17:00:00 EST. Report: Feds ironing out rules for autonomous cars
Filed under: Government/Legal, Safety, Technology With the increasing development of autonomous vehicles, and even some states issuing licenses for self-driving cars, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration decided it was high time to lay out a set of rules for these advanced vehicles. According to a Detroit News report, NHTSA is embarking on a research project that could take two to three years, at the conclusion of which, the administration will write rules to govern driverless cars. According to the report NHSTA administrator David Sctrickland says the technology could possibly save "thousands of lives." It was also reported that NHTSA has been in talks with a number of companies, including Google, regarding the implementation and development of this technology. Google has been testing its own fleet of driverless cars, logging over 300,000 miles on American roads. The tech company says autonomous vehicles could be made available to the public in the next ten years. The technology has profound implications on the automotive industry and car culture. Strickland calls it a "game changer" and could make it possible for blind drivers or senior citizens who would otherwise have their licenses revoked, the ability to get around town. The savings from cutting down on congestion could result in as much as $100 billion in fuel savings. But before that, NHTSA says it needs to determine the effectiveness and reliability of these driverless cars. In addition, new crash test standards may need to be developed for these autonomous vehicles. According to Strickland, "We don't want this technology to be commercially available and then there be a vacuum of no federal motor vehicle safer standards." To that end, NHTSA says there is a huge amount of work to be done before autonomous vehicles hit the roads.Feds ironing out rules for autonomous cars originally appeared on Autoblog on Thu, 25 Oct 2012 16:33:00 EST. Report: Audi R8 E-Tron program on hold, facing cancellation?
Filed under: Concept Cars, Coupe, Performance, Audi, Electric Throughout its brief history - from concept car at the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show, to production-bound prototype - the Audi R8 E-Tron has promised supercar levels of entertainment in a sexy German wrapper. A prospective range of 150 miles with acceleration on the order of 0-60 in under five seconds suggested a more luxurious rival for the Tesla Roadster, and a challenger for the upcoming Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Electric Drive at the E-Tron's expected launch in early 2013. Now it seems like Audi may have slammed on the regenerative brakes, as it were.Car and Driver reports that the R8 E-Tron plan is on hold, pending a project review ordered by new research and development head, Wolfgang Dürheimer. Concerns about the project include a lack of sufficiently advanced and reasonably inexpensive batteries with which to power the car, as well as a buyer pool sufficiently rich and reasonably motivated to drop big sums on the R8 EV. The Car and Driver report indicates that the expected launch in the first part of next year is now off the table, and that the entire project faces existential jeopardy.Audi R8 E-Tron program on hold, facing cancellation? originally appeared on Autoblog on Thu, 25 Oct 2012 15:45:00 EST.
Continue reading Locura del día: Porsche 911 monoplaza centralLocura del día: Porsche 911 monoplaza central originally appeared on Autoblog Español on Thu, 25 Oct 2012 15:00:00 EST. Video: Toyota GT86 fails moose test in spectacular fashion
Filed under: Coupe, Performance, Europe, Safety, Videos, Toyota, Humor Much has been made about the Moose Test as of late. The evasive maneuver test popularized by Swedish safety experts is meant to simulate a driver unexpectedly encountering and attempting to avoid one of these majestic furry beasts. The test is performed by executing a split-second emergency lane change to determine if the vehicle can maintain control. The Jeep Grand Cherokee supposedly failed the test recently in Sweden. Then it was alleged that the circumstances may have been rigged. Then it passed the German version of the test. It was all a bit confusing. The makers of this video have apparently had enough of the Moose Test, which is why before you is a screen grab of a mock moose is in the middle of the road. That vehicle looming behind it? It's a Toyota GT86, overseas twin to America's Scion FR-S and Subaru BRZ. The fate of said moose? You're just going to have to scroll down to see the how the famously well-handling rear-drive coupe performs...Continue reading Toyota GT86 fails moose test in spectacular fashionToyota GT86 fails moose test in spectacular fashion originally appeared on Autoblog on Thu, 25 Oct 2012 14:58:00 EST. Watch Hennessey-tuned Cadillac CTS-V run over 220 mph on a Texas road
Filed under: Motorsports, Coupe, Performance, Videos, Cadillac, LuxuryTexas holds the excellent honor of playing host to the road with the highest speed limit in the US. It seems no coincidence, then, that the speed-hungry minds at Hennessey Performance call the Lone Star State home as well. Hennessey recently turned its attention to the freshly opened toll road SH130 for a quick sprint, and with the help of the Texas Departments of Transportation and Public Safety, driver Brian Smith ran the VR1200 all the way to 220.5 mph before running out of road. That's right, the wicked, much-modified Cadillac CTS-V Coupe actually had more left in its top end. As you may recall, the VR1200 gets its grunt from a twin-turbocharged 7.0-liter V8 engine good for 1,226 horsepower and 1,109 pound-feet of torque. Hennessey paired that maniacal mill with a carbon fiber widebody kit and a set of carbon ceramic brakes among other goodies, and the team says the VR1200 is good for a top speed of 242 mph. Check it out in action below.Continue reading Watch Hennessey-tuned Cadillac CTS-V run over 220 mph on a Texas roadWatch Hennessey-tuned Cadillac CTS-V run over 220 mph on a Texas road originally appeared on Autoblog on Thu, 25 Oct 2012 12:45:00 EST. Report: Texas' 85-MPH toll road opens weeks ahead of schedule
Filed under: Government/Legal While it takes some municipalities months just to fix a pot hole, apparently all you need is a little revenue stream to get road construction done at a rabbit's pace. After years of work, the final portion of the Texas State Highway 130 toll road has been today weeks ahead of schedule. The newest segments have gotten this new toll road national attention over the last several months for having a posted speed limit of 85 miles per hour along its 41-mile length from just south of Austin to I-10 near Seguin, Texas. The road was constructed with no cost to the taxpayers by the SH 130 Concession Company, but almost as an added gift to local residents for finishing early, the tolls for the new portion of Texas SH 130 are being waived until November 11. After that, passenger cars and trucks will be charged $0.15 per mile, which adds up to a little over six dollars to drive the length of the new 41-mile, 85-mph stretch. The entire SH 130 toll road now spans 91 miles and acts as a bypass of Austin. Even better, the toll road uses a cashless system that can read either the TxTag decal or the car's license plate, which eliminates pesky toll booths and makes speedy transit even more convenient for motorists.Texas' 85-MPH toll road opens weeks ahead of schedule originally appeared on Autoblog on Thu, 25 Oct 2012 14:15:00 EST.
