The design concept is meant to show off what Nissan thinks its "youthful customers in Northern Europe" are pining for in a sustainable runabout. We had no idea those buyers were yearning for a chubbier Juke. Inside, sculpted wood and acrylic blend to form a cabin suitable for a design exercise, though we're particularly taken with the notion of an instrument panel that can be taken away and used as a tablet computer. While Nissan has made it clear that the Terra is not meant to showcase any future technologies, the concept does boast a clever drivetrain. The front wheels get their thrust from the same electric motor and battery system currently found in the Nissan Leaf, while the rear wheels each get their own electric motor for added thrust. A small hydrogen-powered engine generates power for the vehicle's batteries. The 2013 Chrysler 300C John Varvatos Limited Edition and Luxury Edition will both bring a new level of exclusivity to this stylish, full-size sedan. Varvatos' self-named menswear fashion brand, John Varvatos, has a raw industrial look, but the designer is also heavily infused with the rock 'n' roll scene from his early interest in fashion to his involvement with the VH1 Save the Music Foundation where he is a board member. This mix of industry and rock 'n' roll can easily be seen in the new 300C models. Each car will get a slightly different look and feel with the 300C John Varvatos Limited Edition coming in an exclusive Phantom Black tri-coat paint job as the basis of the car's dark and sinister appearance. All of the 300's regular bright chrome trim has been replaced by dark titanium accents (on the grille surround, daylight opening trim and the dual exhaust outlets) or black chrome on the front grille. Looking like it came right off a John Varvatos runway, the Limited Edition gets features like the pewter metallic leather seats with exclusive Diesel Gray and black stitching to match one of Varvatos' leather jackets. Also, the instrument panel clock and gauge cluster has been redesigned to match the brand's watch design including what should be a stunning pearlescent white face with black bezels. The Luxury Edition's cabin steps things up even more with two color options for the Nappa leather seats and hand-sanded, matte-finished Natural Pore Mocha real wood accents. | Posted: 11 Sep 2012 05:28 PM PDT  Video: Impatient driver hooked by in-tow crane Filed under: Etc., Videos While we're not completely sure on the specifics of this video, two things we know for sure are that (1) this dashcam owner REALLY needs to learn how to edit a video and (2) the driver of this car will likely stay in his or her lane during future turns. After spending a minute and a half of starting at what has to be one of the worst-designed intersections in the world, the driver of this dashcam-equipped car starts to make a left-hand turn and attempts to go around a Toyota Sienna that is slowing down for a large truck. In doing so, the car ends up behind a crane being hauled on a lowboy trailer, and at some point the crane hooks to the car. What we can't see is how the car gets hooked to the crane, but it's enough to pick the car up, turn it 90 degrees and drag it down the street at a 45-degree angle with horns blaring and tires screeching. | Posted: 11 Sep 2012 05:28 PM PDT  Video: Motor Trend addresses reader feedback from Best Driver's Car roundup Filed under: Performance, Videos, Comparisons We've already watched Motor Trend's 2012 Best Driver's Car competition numerous times, and like us, apparently many M/T viewers had questions about the week-long, nine-car comparison. Not wanting to disappoint its audience, the crew got together to enjoy a few pints while reflecting on the experience and respond to viewer questions during an episode of The Downshift. It sounds like one of the most frequent questions asked was why some cars made the list and others were left out in the cold. First and foremost, the editors wanted to assemble a group of the newest (or significantly updated) most fun-to-drive cars available, but had to do so within the constraints of the automakers' vehicle fleets. This explains why, for instance, the Subaru BRZ made it in to the final group of nine, while no Ferrari did.M/T also addressed the age-old question of how and why a non-manual transmission car could be considered a top driver's car. Editors were quick to point out that, with the great automated manual gearboxes used on the Porsche 911, Nissan GT-R and Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG Black Series Coupe, all that the cars were really missing was a clutch pedal. Some of the more interesting bits of the conversation included a breakdown of tire and brake replacements required during this massive comparison. We were amazed to find out that only four sets of tires were shredded, but the "surprising amount of brakes" that required replacement definitely made sense for a competition like this at a track like Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. Another thing that caught our attention was the amount of negative feedback in regards to the Lamborghini Aventador (which finished dead last) - from the failed brakes to Autoblog-alumnus Jonny Lieberman stating that "it had no business on a racetrack." From Jonny's praise of the PDK transmission to Angus Mackenzie's vibrant description of the 911's handling, it's easy to see why the Porsche was named M/T's Best Driver's Car for 2012. The former General Motors executive used his Forbes column to take issue with the Reuters article that blew up yesterday, estimating that the automaker was losing $49,000 for each Chevrolet Volt sold. Lutz called the estimate "preposterous." Lutz, who led the development of the extended-range plug-in, said the Volt's variable costs were "very roughly" about equal to the dealer price of $37,000, and that, amortized over the lifetime of the model, fixed costs wouldn't put the Volt too far "under water." Lutz, who called the Volt a "first-generation technology masterpiece," added that some of the fixed costs can be factored into models like the Cadillac ELR, which uses the same sort of drivetrain technology. Lutz concluded - as anyone with common sense could see - that the Reuters figure stemmed from the reporters incorrectly calculating per-vehicle fixed costs by factoring in only the vehicles sold so far, not what the Volt expects to sell during the model's lifetime. Last month, the Volt moved a monthly-record 2,831 units, beating the prior record of 2,289 units in March. Through the first eight months of the year, the Volt's sales of 13,497 vehicles were more than quadruple year-earlier figures. In March, Lutz sharply criticized what he termed "the right-wing talk show guys" for what he said was a deliberate attempt to ruin the Volt's reputation in the wake of a vehicle fire last year that occurred weeks after a National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) crash test. NHTSA later concluded that neither the Volt nor other electric vehicles are a greater fire risk than conventional vehicles. Sloss was the winning bidder in an charity auction of an ultra-rare Ferrari 599XX Evo hypercar. The proceeds of this auction went to benefit the victims of an earthquake that struck the Emiglia Romaga region of Italy in May of this year. The region is home to Modena, Maranello and Fiorano - all towns and cities that are significant to the Italian automaker. The winning bid of €1.4 million ($1.78 million) will go to victims in these cities, among others, in the region. Sloss, who accepted the car in an event at the Italian Grand Prix at Monza, had the car painted bright yellow. The high-performance machine was presented by Ferrari boss Luca di Montezemolo, accompanied by Scuderia Ferrari drivers Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa. The 599XX Evo won by the Google exec is a special machine, powered by a 740-horsepower V12, and equipped with active aerodynamics. It lapped the Nürburgring in a mere 6:58.16. Sloss was quoted as saying that he was extremely happy to have contributed to the cause. The 599XX Evo was part of a series of auctions to raise money for victims. Other items included front bodywork and a V8 engine from a retired Formula One racecar. Also auctioned was a racing suit worn by former F1 driver Giancarlo Fisichella. | Posted: 11 Sep 2012 03:50 PM PDT  Official: 2013 Volvo C30 Polestar Limited Edition heads to U.S., only 250 available Filed under: Performance, Hatchback, VolvoVolvo is adding a bit of exclusivity to its C30 hatchback for the 2013 model year by offering a special Polestar Limited Edition model in the United States. And we do mean limited - only 250 of the Rebel Blue hatches will be offered, boasting upgraded performance (sort of) and a whole host of standard kit. We say "sort of" because, well, the Polestar power kit for this special C30 isn't any different than what you can spec on the standard car. Still, it offers an additional 23 horsepower and 27 pound-feet of torque, bringing the turbocharged inline-five's output numbers up to 250 and 273, respectively, paired to either a six-speed manual or automatic transmission. Aside from its new blue hue (that we really like, by the way), the Polestar Limited Edition is set apart from other C30 models with the addition of unique 17-inch Styx matte black alloy wheels, as well as a color-coordinated R-Design body kit. Inside, standard equipment matches that of the C30 Premium Plus model, meaning all of the Limited Edition cars are fitted with a sunroof, power seats, an auto-dimming rear-view mirror, LED daytime running lights and Xenon headlamps. Of course, if you're feeling spendy, you can option up for the Platinum model, which adds navigation and a premium sound system to the mix. All of this limited-run goodness comes at a price, though - the front-wheel-drive Polestar Edition retails for $32,445, including $895 for destination. Ticking the Platinum option will no doubt increase that cost by a few grand, and while it'll certainly be a hoot to drive, it's far more expensive than loaded competitors like the Mazdaspeed3 and runs into all-wheel-drive Volkswagen Golf R territory. The Oregon-based maker of three-wheeled battery-electric vehicles, is planning to build a pilot fleet of 15 vehicles, the company said in its newsletter last month. The company said it benefitted from exhibiting the EV at the EVS26 conference in Los Angeles in May, and made "lots of good contacts at the show for vehicle parts, solidifying some of our component decisions as we head into pilot build." All that doesn't add up to an official launch date, though. Last December, Oregon-based Arcimoto said it was testing the Generation 6 version of the EV, which it said was smaller and had both a lower profile and shorter wheelbase than prior versions, cutting both weight and drag. The fifth-generation Arcimoto was said to have a 40-mile single-charge range from its lead-acid battery and a 65-mile-per-hour top speed. Y es que si un cliente viene y te encarga un modelo especial y está dispuesto a pagar lo que sea, no le vas a decir que no. El último ejemplar que marcaría el final de la vida comercial del Zonda sería el "764 Passione". La noticia fue desvelada por un usuario del foro TeamSpeed. Este último modelo, sobre la base del Zonda 760 RS y RH, tendrá algunos elementos pintados en rosa, como las pinzas de frenos o el cubreculata, pero su carrocería sería principalmente de fibra de carbono. El propulsor de esta tercera unidad del 760 será el V12 AMG de 7.3 litros y 760 CV asociado a un cambio manual. Fields, 51, currently serves as Ford's President of the Americas, and this promotion would clearly put him in line to eventually take over as Chief Executive Officer of Ford once Mulally retires. Candidates to replace Fields in his role as President of the Americas include Jim Farley, Ford's Global Marketing Chief, and Joe Hinrichs, the automaker's chief of Asian operations. Both Farley and Hinrichs are reportedly also candidates to replace Mulally as CEO. Before now, Mulally has never had a COO. Bloomberg reports that Fields has long been the front-runner in the CEO race, and that according to a source within Ford, Hinrichs - who is six years younger than Fields - may have an opportunity to be the company's president further down the line. The official announcement is expected to come as part of Ford's monthly board meetings, scheduled to kick off Wednesday. Marty Gilles had his dealership robbed over the weekend. Marty Gilles has a good sense of humor... and a plan to get even. Over the weekend, however, we had some non-family members come steal some rims and tires." By that line at the 0:05 mark, we are already off to a rather humorous start. En este caso hablamos del renovado RCZ MY2013, un coupé que será desvelado oficialmente en el Salón del Automóvil de París. Al primer vistazo, el renovado RCZ se reconoce por un frontal más personal y deportivo. Por fin se han empleado elementos diferenciadores con relación al 308, de modo que ahora sí puede presumir de un estilo propio o, al menos, no idéntico. Conserva las ópticas delanteras del compacto, pero el paragolpes es completamente nuevo. Automotive News reports that Ford CEO Alan Mulally says his company is looking at adding a small, value-priced B-segment car slotting in below the Ford Fiesta, and we can't help but think of how well Ford's 2010 concept would fill this spot. This unnamed sub-Fiesta model would likely take the place of the Ford Ka minicar, and it would ride on the same platform as the Fiesta instead of being built by Fiat on the Fiat 500 platform like the current Ka. The goal of such a car would obviously be to offer a lower-priced car than the Fiesta to help Ford expand in emerging global markets. The article says the this new model would be a global car, but there is no indication as to whether it would ever be offered in North America. There does seem to be a growing market for small cars in this market as evident by the Fiat 500, Scion iQ and Chevrolet Spark, but the jury remains out on their long-term sales prospects. Mulally confirmed to Automotive News that if such a car came to fruition, it would definitely wear Ford's iconic Blue Oval rather than branding it with a lower-dollar nameplate like Renault currently does with Dacia and Nissan is planning to do with its revived Datsun brand. Like the Start Concept, Ford's new value model would almost certainly feature the new 1.0-liter three-cylinder EcoBoost in its powertrain lineup. La marca experimentó una subida del 19,7% en sus entregas en el mes de agosto cuando entregó 466.300 vehículos (389.600 en agosto de 2011). "Nuestro crecimiento es fuerte, especialmente fuera de Europa", afirmó Christian Kingler, miembro del consejo de dirección para ventas y marketing. "Sin embargo, las dificultades de Europa occidental siguen reclamando nuestra atención". That's why Tesla Motors is rolling out what it calls a "transformed service experience." "Moving beyond automobile service of the past 100 years means bringing service to you in a new way," wrote Joost de Vries, vice president of global service, on the company's official blog. Tesla will be nearly tripling the number of Tesla Service Centers so more customers have them close by. Since customers have reserved the Model S in advance, Tesla says it knows where the first 12,200 cars will be delivered. Based on the expansion map, over 90 percent of current Model S reservation holders in North America will be within 100 miles of a center, and more than 80 percent will be within 50 miles, de Vries writes. These service centers probably more like labs than what most car owners are used to seeing - the "floors are spotless and the air is free of exhaust." If Model S owners can't make it to the service center, they can call the Tesla Rangers. The Rangers will visit an owners home or office and can provide any service offering that doesn't require a service lift. During a scheduled annual inspection (or after 12,500 miles), a service technician will spend several hours conducting a full assessment of vehicle components including brakes, tires, suspension, steering, lighting, and safety components. Tesla's service department will regularly receive updates on how the car is performing. If the diagnostics find a potential issue, it can alert Tesla's service team and a message may pop up on the instrument panel to alert the driver. The Model S has software designed to control this functionality, and many of its service interactions will be in the form of a software update using the car's Internet connection or a wifi network. This connectivity means that service enhancements can be installed remotely. Tesla is working on updates that will include a speed warning that chimes, additional stereo system settings, and memory seat functionality. Some of these enhancements are coming through customer feedback. One example of drivers telling Tesla what they want of their car: the Model S will soon get an update that will allow forward 'creep' when you remove your foot from the brake. Tesla heard this feedback during the recent Get Amped tour. So, what will all of this service cost the Model S owner? In North America, a one-year (or 12,500-mile) service plan costs $600 and covers annual inspection and all wear and tear parts, excluding tires. A pre-paid four-year service plan is available for $1,900 and includes four annual inspections up to 50,000 miles. Ranger visits cost a $100 flat fee per visit, and there is a combined plan that includes "Tesla Service and unlimited Ranger Service for four years or 50,000 miles for $2,400." Dubbed "Carbon GTI," the model is said to make use of a range of new manufacturing techniques to incorporate a heap of carbon fiber and aluminum wherever possible. Pieces like the bulkhead, windshield frame and floor panels are all expected to be hammered from lightweight alloy while the hood and roof will be stitched from the composite. All told, the changes should shave around 440 pounds from the chassis, resulting in a curb weight in the neighborhood of 2,480 pounds. Word has it VW will leave the drivetrain untouched from the upcoming Mark VII GTI, which means buyers can expect to find the same turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine under the hood good for around 222 horsepower (the 2012 model makes do with an even 200 horses). Even so, the Weight Watchers treatment should help the Carbon GTI slim its 0-60 dash to below six seconds. The model may be a test platform for manufacturing techniques that Volkswagen plans to employ on the next-generation Audi MLB platform. Ya había sido cazado con anterioridad, pero camuflado. Está vez ha sido pillado sin camuflaje. No hay grandes cambios que señalar a nivel estético con las versiones normales. El parachoques delantero cuenta con dos nuevas grandes tomas de aire, mientras que la zaga recibe un difusor enmarcado por los escapes trapezoidales a cada lado de la zaga. Un discreto alerón de techo completa la zaga. Si bien el frontal es agresivo (el Clio ya lo es por naturaleza en su diseño), los flancos se conforman con unos discretos faldones laterales. La comercialización del Clio RS debería hacerse efectiva en 2013 con un motor que superaría ligeramente los 200 CV.
