Porsche dealer puts your house in direct marketing material Filed under: Coupe, Performance, Marketing/Advertising, Porsche, Canada, Luxury Pfaff Auto in Toronto, Canada has taken credit for creating the world's first piece of instant direct mail - a variation on the regular direct mail that goes from the doorstep straight to the waste basket. The dealership took a white Porsche 911 Carrera S to well-monied Toronto neighborhoods and photographed it in front of various homes. A print production crew in a cargo van nearby then took those photos and, right on the spot, created individual postcards using each photo that invited homeowners to a test drive. It then delivered the postcards to mailboxes, saving potential buyers from having to merely imagine a Porsche in their driveways. This isn't the kind of marketing play you'd be likely to pull off in America, what with the guns, gates and armed guards, but it worked a treat in Toronto. Traditional direct-mail response is usually in the low single digits, but Pfaff's response rate to the "It's Closer Than You Think" campaign was 32 percent. Hasta aquí todo es normal y lógico dado que el veterano monovolumen va necesitando un relevo. Lo interesante es que el modelo que aparece en las imágenes no es otro que un derivado algo más largo del nuevo Note que acaba de presentarse en Japón. Según la información que publican diferentes medios chinos, el nuevo Livina llegará al mercado durante el primer trimestre del año que viene. Habrá versiones con capacidad para cinco y siete pasajeros y como curiosidad estrenará un nuevo motor 1.6i Turbo de potencia media (unos 140 CV). Lo que parece que no habrá es una variante Grand Livina, pues el modelo convencional ya tendrá sitio para las tres filas de asientos. Ahora falta saber si este modelo será global o específico para China. The majority of his testimony was centered around tablets and smartphones, and what defines intellectual property, but at one point he revealed a big nugget. Schiller told the court that Apple had been considering other projects well before smartphones, including a camera, and designing a car. Schiller also claimed that Samsung copied, stole, and ripped-off Apple's designs in creating their own smartphones. While Google is the tech giant most heavily involved in the automobile business with its autonomous car, it is unclear what direction Apple would have taken. Perhaps a new system of touch screen gestures to control the car. Since Olympic organizers have shut down London's only hydrogen refueling station, three of London's hydrogen-powered cabs are being shipped - via diesel-powered car transporters - 65 miles away for refueling. Why did they do that, you ask? Because of security concerns, reports UK's Swindon Advertiser. The cabs, which are owned by HyTEC, are being used in London during the Games, but then have to be shipped to Swindon, the nearest hydrogen filling station, for a three-minute refill. The drive takes quite a bit longer. Given the absurdity, there remains a chance that a hydrogen refueling station at Heathrow Airport might be opened before the end of the Games. Enge also failed a recent drug test, earning an 18-month ban from racing for what would be his second such infraction. Back in 2002, Enge finished the Formula 3000 season atop the standings, but had his title stripped after testing positive for marijuana use. According to the report, Enge denies that he's back on the drug, saying that he has chronic health problems and has asked the FIA for an exemption from its drug testing rules for medications related to his cardiovascular problems. Enge intends to fight the suspension in the Court of Arbitration for Sport in Switzerland. Most recently, Enge has been racing in the GT1 sports car series, though he drove in Formula One in 2001 and raced in IndyCar during the 2005 season. Según las primeras informaciones, el nuevo modelo tendrá una denominación distinta y el frontal, aunque muy parecido, contará con ópticas más estrechas para acentuar el carácter deportivo. Lo que ya se ha asegurado es que el concepto Vision D mostrado tiempo atrás no tendrá nada que ver, confirmando que el portón será más vertical. Esto nos adelantaba una nueva denominación para la versión cabrio. Ya hay varias unidades realizando los últimos test y han sido fotografiadas, si bien seguimos con la duda de su posible nombre comercial. ¿Cabrio o Calibra? Estos dos nombres son los que más peso tienen, aunque Opel podría sorprender con alguna otra denominación del pasado como Manta. El caso es que el nuevo modelo será presentado en el Salón del Automóvil de Ginebra en marzo del año que viene y podrá equipar motores de hasta 280 CV. El frontal se parecerá mucho al visto en los GTC mientras que la zaga recuerda mucho en su estilo al resto de la familia Astra. Quizás quede fuera por denominación, pero compartirá muchos elementos e incluso casi estamos seguros de que el salpicadero será prácticamente idéntico. Sorprende el empleo de una lona en lugar de un techo duro, pero imaginamos es para conseguir una línea más esbelta y dinámica. Esta estrategia ya la vimos hace unos años con el lanzamiento del VW Eos, separado de la familia Golf para aumentar su caché. Destacar la buena marcha de los híbridos, que subieron un 61,5% hasta alcanzar las 31.610 unidades. En cuanto a los eléctricos, pese a los grandes incrementos se mantienen todavía en cifras pequeñas sobre todo para un mercado tan grande como el estadounidense. El aumento fue del 229% pero el total se quedó en 3.016 unidades. According to an Associated Press report, Ford claims that Dana frames were the cause of a 2011 recall of close to a half a million Windstar minivans. Apparently, the salt used on roads in cold weather states caused the frames to corrode and actually break. Dana denies Ford's charges, but that isn't stopping the Blue Oval from attempting to seek reimbursement. The 2011 recall focused on more than 425,000 Windstar minivans from the 1998 to 2003 model years. The Windstar has also been beset by other rust-related issues, including a 2010 rear axle recall of some 492,000 units over corrosion fears. Autoblog has reached out to Ford to inquire if the troublesome axles were also provided by Dana, but as of publish time, have received no response. According to the report, Ford continues to source parts from Dana Corp. despite the legal battle. Where Woody Allen tells the classic joke about two women grumbling about their dinner? The one complains that the food is terrible, while the other, agreeing, says the portions are too small. That's the automotive infotainment business in a nutshell.JD Power spells this out in a new analysis of its 2012 APEAL survey. To put it simply, having some infotainment system is better than none, even if the technology occasionally makes you want to push your car into a deep lake. Power says infotainment, which it calls "audio/entertainment/navigation (AEN) systems" and includes hands-free technology, had the highest average problem count in its 2012 Initial Quality Study. But those owners who had systems of this sort that included hands-free communication were some 12-percent more likely to recommend their vehicles to others. The Australian publication Car Advice reports that buyers of cars like the $25,000 Laguna Grand Tour Wagon get a 6,990-euro ($8,560) Twizy EV for, uh, free, Car Advice reports. Models such as the Latitude and Espace are also part of the promotion. The promotion reflects how Spain hasn't been too friendly to Renault this year. Through June, Renault sales in Spain were at their lowest in almost two decades. The 17-horsepower Twizy, which is about a foot shorter than the Smart ForTwo, has a full-battery range of about 60 miles and a top speed of about 50 miles per hour. Bueno, recapitulemos para el del fondo que estuvo perdido en la selva durante décadas. Se trata sencillamente de la berlina premium más vendida del mundo. Desde 1975, cuando salió la primera generación (E21), hasta hoy se han vendido más de 12,5 millones de unidades en todo el mundo. Este éxito planetario lo convierte en un modelo esencial para BMW. Y es que uno de cada tres BMW que se venden en el mundo es un Serie 3. Si se equivocan con el Serie 5 GT, duele, pero no pasa nada. Con el Serie 3, sin embargo, BMW no tiene margen de error. Y es un éxito merecido. Durante décadas el Serie 3 supo combinar motores eficientes con un cierto toque deportivo en su andar. La política comercial agresiva por parte de BMW hizo el resto. En 2011 se presentó la sexta generación (F30) con un diseño que toma el testigo del E90, pero añadiendo efectos de estilo más llamativos, tanto al exterior, como en el habitáculo. Eso es en la parte visible, porque en los apartados que no se ven pero se sienten, los cambios son numerosos y de importancia en un Serie 3, como la dirección electromecánica -en un coche con veleidades deportivas tiene su importancia- y el nuevo motor 2.0 litros turbo de este 328i. Y lo que es más preocupante y curioso: ¿Acaso desconocía GM la extrema situación de gravedad de PSA? No nos lo creemos... De ahí que no entendamos que ahora los de Detroit amenacen con desinvertir en PSA "si el valor accionarial de PSA no se recupera". Recordemos que General Motors adquirió un 7% de PSA dentro de un acuerdo de colaboración por el que ambas compañías habrían de colaborar en el desarrollo y producción de nuevos modelos para el mercado europeo. Parece poco probable que GM esté dispuesta a vender las acciones adquiridas ahora que valen mucho menos que el día que las compró, y tirar al traste un acuerdo de cientos de millones de euros. Pero con GM... nunca se sabe. Pronto comienzan las turbulencias en esta aventura.
