| Posted: 16 Jun 2012 07:45 PM PDT  Video: Watch Toyota racer Anthony Davidson's terrifying airborne crash at Le Mans Filed under: Motorsports, Coupe, Safety, Videos, Toyota, Racing The LMP1 racer standing on its nose is the No. 8 Toyota TS030 driven by Anthony Davidson, having just recently begun his driving stint and only five hours into the 24 Hours of Le Mans, while the red car next to it is the No. 81 AF Corse Ferrari 458 Italia driven by Piergiuseppe Perrazini. Davidson took the inside line down the Mulsanne Straight, and based on the vantage point in the video, it looks like Davidson had got a decent chunk of the Toyota ahead of the Ferrari when Perrazini turned into him. The result were hard runs into the tire wall and the end of the race for both drivers. Davidson got out on his own but was sent to the hospital for observation until Monday morning, but thankfully Toyota has released a statement saying Davidson shows "no signs of any injuries." However, reports indicate Davidson has fractured two vertebra, and he soon tweeted from the hospital "Well that was a big one! Lying in a French hospital with a broken back wasn't what I had in mind at this stage in the race..." The safety car came out while the accident was cleared, but the Toyota team's woes were compounded when the No. 7 TS030 driven by Kazuki Nakajima drove into the Nissan DeltaWing of Satoshi Motoyama on the restart. The contact sent the DeltaWing into the wall (and despite efforts to revive it, out of the race) and the No. 7 Toyota headed back to the pits for repairs and a steep drop down the order. The WTCC pits race-prepped sedan and hatchback touring cars against each other on tracks across Europe and around the world. Considering that the factory-backed Chevrolet Cruze has emerged over the past couple of seasons as the car to beat in WTCC competition, perhaps its only fitting that another Chevy act as safety car. The Safety Ca(r)maro, as it's been dubbed, appears pretty much bone stock, though we'd assume it has had the necessary safety gear fitted, like a roll cage, five-point harness and fire supression system. But as it stands, its 430-horsepower V8 is about 40% more powerful than the restricted engines in the touring cars it's keeping at bay. En Fiat quieren seguir amortizando los Siena EL, Palio Weekend y Strada al menos una temporada más. Exteriormente reciben ligeras pinceladas que consiguen actualizar su imagen, si bien no se puede decir que sean cambios profundos (paragolpes, parrilla y poco más). En el interior hay que destacar la inclusión de una nueva instrumentación, tapizados y guarnecidos con mejores materiales y pequeños detalles como hueco porta-gafas y el ordenador de viaje de serie en todos. That's why you have guys like New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg hacking away at the tip of the iceberg by trying to ban extra large sodas from the world. Which, of course, is why 7-11 has recently, secretly downsized its 64-ounce Double Gulp to a mere 50 ounces. What's that? That's not true? The Daily is reporting that 7-11 did it because the cups don't fit in cupholders? Conspiracy! Coverup! Check the alleyways behind 7-11's and you're likely to find big, fetid puddles of soda, forming an environmental hazard. Either that, or they've started using it for fracking. Not true either? Well, at the very least we can still accuse 7-11 of deceptive marketing. With 133 feet of elevation change, though, the 3.4 mile Circuit of the Americas and its 20 turns should be closer to the former. The track will feature in Codemasters' "F1 2012" video game, and Motorworld Hype was given a virtual tour by Codemasters designer Paul Jeal at E3. Aside from the overexposure, the track and the game both look worthy of further investigation. The company has turned out a new video for its Twizy pod car featuring a gaggle of youth prowling Parisian streets in the early hours of the morning. The fleet of bizarre-looking Twizy EVs descend on the Eiffel Tower for a quick plug-in just in time for the famous landmark to erupt into its hourly twinkling. The whole episode is set to some '80s wonderful tunes. It doesn't get much more French than that. The Renault Twizy is a fully electric covered scooter available in two configurations. Buyers can opt for a nine-horsepower version with a top speed of 28 mph or a 20 hp version with a more respectable 47 mph top end. The company says charging the Twizy for three-and-a-half-hours will net users a range of around 60 miles. Not bad. Pricing for the EV starts at around $9,923 in the UK at current conversion rates. Polestar, la escudería sueca convertida oficiosamente en el departamento de altas prestaciones de Volvo viene dispuesta a callar bocas con su increíble S60 Performance Concept, un one-off realizado a petición de un misterioso cliente pero que próximamente podría plasmarse de forma comercial en forma de serie limitada. El fabricante alemán, que se encuentra en estos momentos dando los últimos retoques a sus modelos a baterías, ha aprovechado la apertura en Londres de su primera tienda de vehículos eléctricos para presentar una bicicleta eléctrica plegable de tamaño compacto; tanto que caben dos sin problemas en el maletero del BMW i3 (en la foto). Su propósito es muy fácil de imaginar: poder dejar aparcado el coche en el primer hueco que encuentre y completar el resto del recorrido en bici. La i Pedelec está equipada con un motor eléctrico trasero (250 W/20 Nm) y una batería con una autonomía de 25 a 40 km (dependiendo del nivel de asistencia requerido), capaces de intervenir hasta que el usuario alcanza una velocidad máxima de 25 km/h. El peso total del vehículo es de menos de 20 kg gracias al uso de aluminio y fibra de carbono como componentes estructurales, y poseería un reparto de masa 50:50.
