Posted: 26 May 2012 06:33 PM PDT Official: Eric Clapton's Ferrari SP12 EC officially unveiled Filed under: Coupe, Performance, Ferrari, Specialty A few months ago a mystery Ferrari was photographed in a London dealership with various sources all but confirming it was a one-off creation built for musician Eric Clapton. Now Ferrari has made it official, formally unveiling the car named SP12 EC. Built in cooperation with Ferrari's Special Projects program and Pininfarina, the SP12 EC is essentially a 458 Italia clad with all new body panels inspired by the 512 BB of the late 1970s and early 1980s, of which Clapton has owned three. The musician reportedly wanted one of Ferrari's 6.0-liter V12s squeezed into the engine bay, but all signs indicate that the 458 Italia's 4.5-liter is still in place. The only thing missing is a set of vintage series wheels from HRE. Ferrari isn't revealing the price tag of Clapton's one-off SP12 EC, but estimates put the tally right around the £3 million mark, which seems to be the going rate for a bespoke supercar from the Italian manufacturer. GrabCAD recently decided to turn the tables by giving engineers the chance to pen a body for a ready-made chassis by 500 Group. The site was flooded with 200 unique designs completed in just 40 days. The top quarter of those went on for final judging in two categories: street and track. 500 Group will then actually produce one or more of the designs through a General Motors Special Projects agreement. The chassis makes use of a number of GM Performance parts, and is set up to make use of the E-Rod LS3, LS7 or supercharged LS9 V8 engines. One skinless chassis has already been completed for testing. The SEMA Mustang Build Powered by Women was created by Ford Motor Co. and the Specialty Equipment Market Association to create a pony car designed by and built by women. But before a group of volunteers pull out their wrenches and pop a few beers in the garage, they need the general public to pick the car they'll create. Whichever Mustang gets the most votes will be built by an all-female crew and shown off at the SEMA show in Las Vegas later this year. The three finalists include: High Gear: A luxury Mustang concept inspired by couture clothing, jewelry and buildings. It's supposed to fuse muscle and power. Chormatic: Uses neon colors and anthracite chrome to create a futuristic version that was inspired by street art. But in the homeland of big EV builder Renault, not so much. EV sales in France have accounted for less than 0.2 percent of new car sales this year, Bloomberg News reports, citing Les Echos. Automakers like alliance partners Renault and Nissan sold 1,594 EVs through April, according to the wire service. Automakers are hoping that EVs account for as much as 10 percent of vehicle sales in France. Still, 0.2 percent isn't exactly a horror story. Last year, models like the Nissan Leaf battery electric vehicle and Chevrolet Volt extended-range plug-in moved about 17,000 units, or about 0.13 percent of the nearly 13 million light-duty vehicles sold in the U.S. in 2011. That's about one in 750 new cars. That said, automakers were hoping the French would take after the fine citizens of Norway. There, the Nissan Leaf moved 1,000 units during its first six months on sale there, and accounted for about two percent of the car market in February. At the top of the list is the classic 1955 Maserati A6G/54 Frua Berlinetta currently owned by Jamiroquai frontman Jay Kay. This Maserati, the show car from the 1955 Paris Auto Salon, features Frau coachwork, won Best in Show at the Salon Privé, and is expected to fetch between $1.5 and 2 million. Memorial Day weekend is always a good opportunity to hit the road, and despite the sour state of the economy, AAA feels this weekend will see more travelers in their cars than last year. Based on responses gleaned from a member survey, AAA estimates that 34.8 million Americans will travel 50 miles or more this Memorial Day weekend, an increase of 500,000 travelers over 2011. The survey also predicts that 88 percent of this weekend's travelers will skip planes and trains in favor of cars. 53 percent of those surveyed say that elevated fuel prices won't affect their travel plans. While the number of travelers will likely go up this weekend, the AAA survey finds that distances traveled should decrease significantly. Respondents say they will travel an average of 642 miles over the holiday weekend, or 150 fewer miles than last year. This is where fuel prices manifest themselves; while high gas prices may not keep people from driving this weekend, they will keep them from driving as far as they might have if costs were lower. Afortunadamente el público de este exclusivo evento celebrado a orillas del Lago de Como está teniendo la deferencia de cubrirnos con fotos en directo y hasta un vídeo como el que ahora te dejamos a continuación. Nuestra impresión inicial no ha cambiado tras echarle un vistazo; la imagen clásica de Aston Martin que todos tenemos en nuestra memoria es la de coches con carrocerías sencillas y sinuosas que parecen fluir, pero el AM 310, aunque bonito, es un coche más complejo y afilado en sus formas, casi cortante. Sus llantas bicolor desconciertan casi tanto como el spoiler delantero, y nos hacen pensar qué tal le sentaría una combinación cromática más tradicional y menos "tunera". Despite this, Mini has made a decent living selling its iconic three-door here in the States. The BMW subsidiary has also tried a plethora of permutations to get us Yanks more interested, including two convertibles, a coupe and the van-like Clubman. But it wasn't until Mini launched the larger Countryman, equipped with four full-size doors, that it seemed to crack the code of the American consumer. In a very short time, the Countryman has become Mini's second-best seller in the U.S. behind the standard three-door despite its significantly higher, and more profitable, price. What does that tell Mini? According to Motoringfile.com, that Americans like having more doors to open. The Mini-focused website reports that the automaker is developing a five-door hatchback to launch with the next-generation model in the U.S. and other markets. Motoringfile.com says the five-door hatch, codenamed F55, will only be around two inches longer than the three-door to give rear seat passengers a bit more legroom. The front doors will reportedly be shortened to accommodate the extra two behind them, and all four will feature standard door handles. While the five-door Mini will look just like its three-door counterpart up front, Motoringfile.com says to expect a more sharply raked rear end. Given Mini's rapid and recent lineup expansion, we're surprised they hadn't struck upon this rather obvious iteration of the basic Mini formula earlier. Aunque no hay muchas estaciones de servicio en las que repostar el gas, si tienes una cerca puede compensarte un vehículo con esta alimentación gracias a su coste más reducido. La oferta española de versiones adaptadas para llevar GLP es la siguiente: Panda 1.2i 69 CV Classic GLP 9.952 € 500 1.2i 69 CV Lounge GLP 14.063 € Punto 1.4i 77 CV Easy GLP 12.500 € Bravo 1.4i 16v 90 CV Active 13.370 € En los precios mostrados se ha incluido la promoción vigente convencional. Si te puedes acoger al Bonus Fiat (entrega de usado, financiación, etc.), el coste de estos modelos se reduce un poco más (el Punto por ejemplo costaría 11.700 €).
