El prototipo nos dejó sin habla con sus sinuosas formas y una estética sorprendente, pero que no ha terminado de cuajar. De hecho, las críticas han sido tan fuertes que Chrysler se ha visto obligada a regresar al tablero de diseño debido a la decepcionante recepción del público. Según ha reconocido Sergio Marchionne a la prensa estadounidense, el concept no resultó todo lo cautivador que esperaban. Su punto más discutido parece ser el aspecto del falso montante central exterior, que en lugar de seguir la línea vertical de la estructura se inclinaba hacia detrás imitando al pilar A. ¿Demasiado italiano para el gusto estadounidense? Es muy posible. Todos sabemos que la idea de Marchionne es hacer que Chrysler y Lancia sean una, pero esa es una de esas cosas que cuestan menos de decir que de hacer. Stompy the Rideable Hexapod, that's what. Stompy is a project envisioned by the Robotics Intensive class at Artisan's Asylum in Boston, and with your help, it could become a reality. Stompy's six hydraulic legs are powered by a 135-hp, propane-fueled forklift engine and can carry two passengers high above the terrain. What are the chances of this thing coming to life? Pretty good, actually. The president of Artisan's Asylum and leader of this project is Gui Cavalcanti, who has workd with DARPA on a four-legged pack robot to help soldiers with heavy loads. Also on the team are Adam Bercu, two-time collegiate Battle Bots champ, robotic engineers Dan Cody and James Whong, and several others with backgrounds in open-source software and robotics. The biggest obstacle looks to be funding, of course. | Posted: 05 May 2012 01:35 PM PDT  Toyota TS030 and Audi R18 e-tron Quattro pose for the camera Filed under: Hybrid, Audi, Toyota, Racing While the Toyota TS030 Hybrid won't be participating in this weekend's FIA World Endurance Championship race at Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium due to a crash in pre-season testing last month, that didn't stop the automaker from bringing the new endurance racer as a preview for what's to come for the 24 Hours of Le Mans in June. The TS030 even made time for a quick photoshoot at the infamous Masta Kink alongside the new Audi R18 e-tron Quattro, which happens to be making its race debut this weekend. While both the Audi and Toyota employ hybrid powertrains, a first for endurance prototypes, each go about it in very different ways. The TS030 makes use of a naturally aspirated 3.4-liter V8 while the R18 e-tron Quattro uses a turbocharged diesel V6. Audi's hybrid system powers the front wheels, hence the Quattro name, while Toyota has yet to announce whether it's system will drive the front or rear wheels. | Posted: 05 May 2012 12:45 PM PDT  Official: Hyundai announces standard brake-override for all models Filed under: Safety, Technology, HyundaiAlways looking for ways to one-up its Japanese competitors, Hyundai has announced that a brake override system will be standard equipment on its full line of vehicles, starting this month. Truth be told, every 2012 Hyundai model save for the Elantra Touring already had a brake override system fitted. So why the announcement, and why now? Well, other than just tweaking Toyota, whose unintended acceleration problems led to widespread recalls, a Congressional investigation, and prompted the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to propose requiring brake override systems on all new cars, the announcement likely has more to do with the end of Elantra Touring production than it does with anything else. The old Hyundai i30, on which the Elantra Touring was based, has been redesigned, and reviews of the new model have already started showing up on foreign automotive websites. We won't get our version of the i30, dubbed Elantra GT here in the U.S., until later in the summer. Despite losing both his legs (and almost his life) in what many assumed was a career-ending crash during a 2001 CART race at Lausitzring, Zanadari wasn't content to accept that fate. After being disappointed with the prosthetic limbs doctors offered at the time, he designed his own and it wasn't long before he was back behind the wheel of a vehicle. Two years later, he returned to competition using hand-operated throttle and brake controls on the same track that almost took his life. He's since competed in a wide range of automotive racing events. Now Zanardi has turned his focus to hand-bike racing, and BMW has produced a video previewing this new chapter in the determined competitor's ongoing story. Posiblemente estas tres palabras sean las que mejor definan al nuevo todocamino de Mazda que acaba de ponerse a la venta en el mercado español: el CX-5. Llega para robar una pequeña parte de ese apetitoso pastel que cada día cuenta con más adeptos. Oficialmente el CX-5 inicia su andadura comercial en estos días, pero no es menos cierto que desde finales de febrero han ido llegando con cuentagotas algunas unidades asociadas al motor de gasolina. Por esta razón es posible que lo hayas podido ver luciendo tipo en algunos concesionarios o incluso rondado por nuestras carreteras.
