No somos los primeros en traerte este impactante documento, pero al final no nos hemos podido resistir a este increíble documento gráfico que, en forma de vídeo, te espera a continuación. Sí, son perros conduciendo... Se trata de una acción promocional de la sociedad protectora de animales de Nueva Zelanda que, con la ayuda inestimable de MINI (y su dinero), han logrado amaestrar a una serie de perros, rescatados previamente por la protectora, a conducir un Countryman. Para ello hacen uso de acelerador y frenos adaptados a las circunstancias, para accionarlos con las patas delanteras. ¿Lo mejor de todo? ver la cara de Porter, el primer perro conductor del planeta (al menos del que tengamos constancia). Y no, no es una broma o un montaje... De hecho, Porter conduce mejor que algún que otro "conductor colérico" que hemos visto por ahí suelto "sin collar". And now that the dust has settled at GM's big reveal event, we've had a chance to snap dozens of photos of the new pickup pair from every angle.We already told you the important bits earlier today (click here in case you missed it), but let's recap. Under the hood are three new engines - a 4.3-liter V6, 5.3-liter V8 and 6.2-liter V8 (you know, a version of the small-block that'll also be found under the hood of the C7 Corvette), all mated to six-speed automatic transmissions. The 2014 model year marks the return of the Z71 off-road package with Rancho shocks, front tow hooks and beefier underbody protection. Inside, there's a host of new technology and a greater focus on better quality and refinement. Some of the nitty-gritty specifics (like engine output numbers and fuel economy) have yet to be revealed, and since we haven't driven the finished products yet, it's hard to say how these trucks will fare against rivals like the Ram 1500 and Ford F-150. The Italian capital will be the first in Europe to host an FIA Formula E series race, the UK's Telegraph reports. With Italy's long history in motorsports as a backdrop, Formula E Holdings is organizing the 10 races that are scheduled for the first year and will put on the race in Rome in 2014. On-the-street demonstrations will start next year. Formula E Holdings' has generated some momentum in this, the first-ever all-electric circuit. In August, Formula E signed up Rio de Janeiro as the first host of its 2014 races. And last month, Formula E said it will bring in McLaren Electronic Systems to design and produce the cars' powertrains. The cars will be an advanced version of the Formulec EF01 electric-racing prototype unveiled at the 2010 Paris Motor Show. That car used two Siemens motors to propel it from 0-60 mph in three seconds and reach a 155-mile-per-hour top speed. Even then, we couldn't promise we'd oblige the law. The team from Petrolicious seems to have found an owner who shares our frame of mind. The video below follows one SL owner as he departs for a quick run to the store to pick up some last-minute holiday items. Except, with a clear road ahead and a piece of vintage German engineering idling beneath him, the owner takes his cue to exercise the 300SL a bit. Of course, that walk around the block may put his marital bliss in jeopardy, but sacrifices will be made. So, the story is a little corny. We'll let that slide so long as we get to peep more gorgeous shots of the red Gullwing burbling through the hills. The cars in question are being recalled for potentially faulty rear-wheel hubs. These hubs cold be prone to failure under "certain driving conditions." The specific driving conditions in question are not noted. If the rear-wheel hub fails, one could lose control of the track-oriented Porsche, which would not be pretty at speed. 455 units of the 2010 Porsche 911 GT3, produced between May 15, 2009 and February 11, 2010, are involved in the recall. Porsche is notifying owners, and has stated that it will replace the rear wheel hubs, free of charge. Additionally, Porsche will change the service intervals, as the current intervals may be "insufficient to prevent wheel hub failure." The 200,000-square-foot factory will support about 50 jobs. Production of the European left-hand-drive versions of the Model S all-electric sedan will start next March. Tilburg is about halfway between Amsterdam to the north and Brussels to the south. Check out Tesla's press release below. California-based Tesla is looking to ramp up sales of the Model S, which started production earlier this year. The car won the Motor Trend Car of the Year Award last month. In November, Tesla also announced an increase in the price for the Model S for next year by $2,500 for US customers to a base of $59,900 and a top-end maximum of $94,400. A two-seat, closed-roof sports car, the machine should bow with a Ford 3.7-liter V6 with around 380 horsepower on hand and a curb weight of under 2,000 pounds. Designers borrowed from the company's experience at the 24 Hours of Le Mans to create a vehicle that looks more like an LMP1 entry than something road-legal. The body generates an impressive 1,984 pounds of down force and uses both composite and carbon fiber construction. Underneath the skin, the RXC boasts a tube steel chassis with an integrated roll cage. Radical says it will run the RXC through the same FIA crash test evaluations Le Mans racers must withstand. Should you require a bit more thrust, the RXC can be had with the same 3.0-liter V8 found in the SR8 RX racer. That lump churns out 480 horsepower and dumps it all on the rear wheels via a seven-speed automatic. Handling falls on a new bespoke Intrax inboard push rod race suspension with double wishbones on all four corners, and the RXC uses a hefty set of 13-inch discs pressed by six-piston brake calipers up front to slow the party. The rear brakes also use six-piston calipers, though they're paired with a 12.2-inch disc. Road & Track West Coast Editor Jason Cammisa figured out how to make the electric luxury sedan extra frisky and then set about nuking the rear tires with electric-motor torque. "Holy hell there's a lot of torque here," Cammisa wrote in his notes after pulling a fuse that took the ABS, stability control and traction control offline. That fuse also took out the speedometer and air suspension - no big deal - but power steering and brake assist went out, too, making hooning a parking-lot-only affair. The best part is that they shot a video to accompany the hijinks, so you can see for yourself how the Model S does. If you want to try it for yourself, just be careful. "There's no rev-limiter to contend with," notes Cammisa, and that means "you'll be spinning tire up to the car's 132-mph top speed." That makes the Model S capable of blowing tires very effectively. The upside to disabling the assistance systems is that the raw dynamics of the car show through, and Cammisa reports that the underlying car is very good, indeed. According to a joint press release, the two companies will collaborate on further development of the lightweight material, including production methods and carbon fiber recycling. The partnership is a fitting one, as Boeing and BMW have both been pushing carbon fiber development in their respective industries. BMW has invested in carbon fiber producer SGL Group, and created the i3 and i8 concepts with heavy use of the material. Meanwhile, Boeing has developed the 787 Dreamliner (seen above), which is 50 percent carbon fiber. The recycling of these materials, including recycling excess byproduct as well as the product at the end of its use, is essential. According to the press release below, the two companies will together look for ways to reclaim the material at the end of its product life. Seattle, WA is the corporate home for Boeing, and is a little over 2.5 hours from BMW's Moses Lake facility. Washington State Governor Christine Gregoire helped BMW secure the location for that facility, and and played a roll in putting together this joint venture. "This exciting partnership between two global players was an industry win for our state," said Gregoire, "this will help Washington further develop our capabilities and leadership position in the game-changing technology of carbon fiber." | Posted: 13 Dec 2012 02:03 PM PST  Official: German automakers renew push for clean-diesel sales in US Filed under: Diesel, Audi, BMW, Mercedes Benz, Porsche, Volkswagen, Germany, USA, Daimler Germany's largest automakers are renewing their pitch for their clean-diesel vehicles in the US as a way for consumers to combat high gas prices without having to resort to the (often) even pricier hybrid and plug-in hybrid options.Audi, BMW, Mercedes-Benz parent Daimler, Porsche and Volkswagen, along with auto-component supplier Bosch, have joined together in a campaign titled: "Clean Diesel. Clearly Better." The project, developed with the German Association of the Automobile Industry (VDA), includes the website Clearly Better Diesel, which outlines the advantages of diesel powertrains in light-duty vehicles, and will be fully unveiled at Detroit's North American International Auto Show next month. While clean-diesel sales have more than doubled in the US since 2009, they still account for less than three percent of new-car sales in the US. In Western Europe, more than half of the new cars sold are oil burners. In the US, through November of this year, Volkswagen's clean-diesel sales have jumped 32 percent from 2011 to 82,981 units, while Audi's diesel sales are actually down slightly to 6,555 vehicles. Last month, Audi said it will add a clean-diesel option to its A6, A7, A8 sedans as well as its Q5 crossover. Those models are getting a 3.0-liter V6 turbocharged diesel that will deliver 240 horsepower. The A8 diesel will start sales in the US next spring, while the others will debut by the end of 2013. Habiendo grandes 4x4 y impresionantes camiones en la lista de vehículos, el de JL será cuanto menos llamativo y peculiar. Será la primera vez que un piloto se atreve a realizar el Dakar a los mandos de un Smart ForTwo. Sí, has leído bien, un Smart aunque la cosa tiene truco. El pequeño modelo, que competirá en la categoría de buggys ligeros, ha sido convenientemente adaptado para poder superar los obstáculos que puedan encontrarse en el camino. El chasis y la amortiguación pertenecen a un buggy americano al que se le ha adaptado la carrocería del ForTwo de primera generación. Lógicamente este modelo tiene una parte ciclo que nada tiene que ver con el producto original. El motor elegido para este particular modelo es un 900cc de dos cilindros con 90 CV de potencia acoplado a un cambio por variador PVT. El sistema de tracción 4x4, desconectable, cuenta con marchas largas y cortas. Si quieres verlo en movimiento sólo tienes que dar el salto. Automakers that had eschewed the show in the past are returning, and this year's show will see manufacturers like Jaguar, Land Rover, Maserati as well as Ferrari show off their wares for our viewing pleasure. Chinese automakers have snapped up floor space in Cobo Hall, with Guangzhou Automobile Group Corporation planning to debut an all-new model. The hall itself will also show off a few changes, including a new three-story atrium that will play host to some of the event's larger debuts. The Detroit News also reports that manufacturers are making some substantial changes to their own booths. For example, Cadillac vehicles will be displayed separate from the rest of the General Motors brands this year. Visitors can now find the luxury manufacturer near Volvo, Ferrari and Porsche. Meanwhile, Ford plans to use period actors and classic vehicles to draw links to some of the more illustrious moments in the company's past, and Toyota will make make use of a portion of Cobo Hall's 30,000 square-feet of additional show space. This isn't my first rodeo. I have, in the past, pulled any number of transmissions, both automatic and manual, and no matter how many times I do the deed, I'm always astounded at the staggering preponderance of fluid a slusher can stash away in its unknown voids. I started the madness of converting this 1989 Ford Mustang from a four-speed automatic to a five-speed manual by dropping the pan on the old gearbox and letting the super-fried automatic transmission fluid bleed out into a drain pan. Pulling the old box out of the car was as simple as keeping everything supported while I removed the driveshaft, unbolted the bellhousing from the engine block and sent the one crossmember that supported the transmission packing. But wrestling the contraption from under the car unleashed a small lake of brackish ATF that threatened to flash flood the basement. Trust me when I say there is no more detestable a sensation than being slowly overrun by cold tranny fluid. | Posted: 13 Dec 2012 12:14 PM PST  Vídeo: 2012 visto desde un Porsche 911 Filed under: Porsche Con YouTube y las cámaras de vídeos enganchadas con ventosas al salpicadero internet está repleto de vídeos de accidentes, sobre todo rusos, de demostraciones diversas que acaban en la cuneta o encima de otro coche y de adelantamientos con más o menos éxito en track days. Por eso este vídeo se merece una mención especial. Bajo el título de "Well, that was 2012" (Bueno, así fue 2012) vemos lo bien que se lo pasan este grupo de ocho británicos al volante de sus Porsche 911. En 4 minutos 21, este vídeo nos resume los siete días que duró la vuelta a Europa que se pegaron. Más que un vídeo de lo bien que se lo han pasado es también una manera muy gráfica de explicar porque nos apasionan los coches. | Posted: 13 Dec 2012 11:29 AM PST  Official: Geek Squad's famous Beetle gets updated courtesy of West Coast Customs Filed under: Aftermarket, Hatchback, Volkswagen The LA-based crew at West Coast Customs and the tie-wearing computer techs at Best Buy's Geek Squad might not have much in common, but the two companies will now be forever linked thanks to a tricked-out version of the Geekmobile. In most cities across the US, the Geek Squad vehicle of choice is the Volkswagen New Beetle, but West Coast Customs went to town on a new-body Beetle showing what the cars could look like in a newer, hipper design. The car was unveiled by WCC project manager, Scott Voinovich, and Geek Squad City Mayor, Wes Snyder. Starting with a base 2.5-liter Beetle, this custom Beetle sports a similar black-and-white paint job like the standard Geekmobile, but it adds in a little WCC flair with plenty of graffiti-style graphics incorporated into the main colors. The car also has the expected "Geek Squad" logo on it, but it is the orange racing stripe and oversized wheels that easily distinguish it from the typical version of the car. West Coast Customs also replaced all exterior Volkswagen logos with its own logo. Inside, the graphics and orange paint carried over, and other finishing touches including cross-stitched seats, embroidered headrests and a massive subwoofer in the cargo area.
