When we drove the Continental GT V8 at launch we were told that official EPA mileage could be rated as high was 24 mpg on the highway, and that, even with the right-foot factor, would be a generous improvement over the W12 for sacrificing just 67 horsepower and almost nothing in performance. It turns out Bentley told the truth, the official EPA numbers are 15 city/24 highway. According to FuelEconomy.gov, the 12 combined mpg of the W12 is raised to 15 combined with the V8. Better yet, drivers will save $1,000 on premium unleaded every year, the V8 needing $3,400 worth of the explosive liquid, the W12 needing $4,300. On top of the fact that the V8 is roughly $18,000 less than the W12, with those annual savings you'll be able to add a couple more ties to your collection every year, or one bespoke shoe. The annual race at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca is normally scheduled as the season finale in October, often leading to nail-biting finishes. More often than not, though, the team and drivers' championships were wrapped up before the last event, meaning that the Laguna Seca was essentially inconsequential. The schedule change to an earlier spot in the year ensures that each and every team fights for points. With a highly competitive GT field - perhaps more than ever - spectators were almost ensured fantastic racing from the likes of Corvette, Porsche, Ferrari, BMW and Aston Martin. We can't wait until the new SRT Viper GTS-R is thrown into the mix as well. BMW and Corvette split the first two races of 2012, although it seems that any team and any car could pull out a win at any time. It's a different story in the prototype classes, where the Honda HPD ARX-03a run by Muscle Milk Racing looks to be the runaway favorite in the P1 class. The team lost out at Sebring due to fueling problems, but had a dominating performance in Long Beach. Likewise, the Honda HPD ARX-03b of Level 5 Motorsports has swept the first two races of the season and look like the team to beat. However, the big news in Monterey for the prototype classes was the debut of Dempsey Racing's new closed-cockpit Lola B12/87 running in the P2 class. Posted: 13 May 2012 12:52 PM PDT Zero Motorcycles prove resilient in crash-marred TTXGP weekend, take top three spots Filed under: EV/Plug-in, On Two Wheels, Racing Last weekend's TTXGP motorcycle races were proof that sometimes, slow and steady wins the race. Not that the four "eSuperstock" Zero S ZF9s were slow - ok, they are a bit sluggish compared to their superbike upperclassmen - but their reliability conquered all, allowing them to sweep the podium. How's that? TTXGP is holding two races at each event and aggregating the scores. Michael Barnes easily won the first race on his "flying banana" from Lightning Motors but suffered from a malfunction in the second and retired, resulting with him finishing the weekend with 25 points. Tim Hunt, riding the #89 Lightning bike, had a DNF in the first race and won the second, scoring 25 points as well. Martin Szwarc, Kenyon Kluge, and Kyle Schumacher finished each contest in 2nd, 4th, and 5th, respectively, giving them more points than the Lightning riders. And the trophies. It seems eSuperstock is not a separate class, as we supposed in our pre-race post, but rather, a "production specification category." Yeah, it's confusing. However bad the Lightning crew might have felt after being shut out, they still fared better than Brammo. After putting down a few laps quicker than last year's record pace, rider Steve Atlas high sided on turn seven. While able to walk away from the crash, Atlas had six fractured vertebrae and was in no condition to continue. Luckily for the team, the bike was soon race-ready and Steve Rapp stepped up to the plate. It was shaping up to be an exciting race with the former Mission Motors rider running close behind the Lightning machines, when disaster struck again in turn seven and the Brammo Empulse RR went down on the low side. Steve #2 suffered a broken wrist and the weekend was over for the team. Such is racing. Hopefully, the field will be a bit more crowded when the North American edition of the TTXGP gets to the Portland International Raceway on June 23. Besides a recovered Steve Atlas, Shelina Moreda will be joining the Brammo boys. And Wolfgang Dürheimer gets to run them both - but not for much longer, according to the latest reports coming in from trade publication Automotive News Europe. According to ANE, the former Porsche development chief is set to move to Audi in a broad management restructure aimed at reducing the average age of Ingolstadt's seven-member management board. In his new capacity, Dürheimer (53) is tipped to replace Audi's current development chief, Michael Dick (60), who is expected to retire later this year. Along with Dürheimer, Volkswagen marketing director Luca de Meo (44, formerly of Fiat) is expected to replace Audi sales chief Peter Schwartzenbauer (60), while Volkswagen purchasing manager Bernd Martens replaces his Audi counterpart Ulf Berkenhagen, who will take up the same role at the group's commercial vehicles division. Audi production chief Frank Dreves is also expected to leave his post, though no replacement was named in the report. Of course with any game of musical chairs - or "Reise nach Jerusalem" as they call it in German for some reason - replacements will need to be found for the positions being left vacant. Respuesta: es aquel cuya viscosidad varía dependiendo de la temperatura o la tensión cortante aplicadas (Wiki). Este tipo de fluidos se comportan a simple vista como cualquier líquido cuando se encuentran en reposo o son removidos lentamente, pero si reciben un golpe adquieren una consistencia casi sólida, más parecida a la de una gelatina especialmente dura. Tan peculiar comportamiento ha convertido a los fluidos no-newtonianos en una de las estrellas de las clases de física y química, pero también podría servir para crear parches con los que reparar en un abrir y cerrar de ojos los baches más profundos. Un equipo de estudiantes de la Universidad Case Western Reserve, en EEUU, ha desarrollado un interesantísimo remedio temporal a los temidos huecos (casi trincheras, en algunas ciudades) que amenazan con destrozar las suspensiones de nuestros coches a poco deprisa que vaya uno. Básicamente, se trata de un saco de Kevlar impermeabilizado con silicona y relleno (en medida de lo necesario) de fluido no-newtoniano, de forma que al depositarlo sobre un bache lo cubre totalmente sin necesidad de obra alguna. El saco es posteriormente tapado con una "manta" de color negro para evitar que los conductores se alarmen por la presencia de un objeto extraño en la carretera. A diferencia de la arena, estos sacos no absorben la humedad ni se compactan con el uso. Además, serían reutilizables, de forma que una vez reparado el bache de forma permanente podrían moverse para cubrir otro agujero. Por ahora desconocemos su resistancia al uso y al frío, pero el ayuntamiento de Cleveland ya ha mostrado su interés en probar esta solución temporal en sus calles, y varias compañías estarían dispuestas a ponerlo a prueba. The DBS Ultimate, as you may recall, is Gaydon's way of saying goodbye to what has been (notwithstanding the comings and goings of the One-77 and V12 Zagato) its mainstay flagship model for five years now. It's distinguished by such special touches as a painted rear decklid spoiler, carbon-fiber wing mirror caps, darkened grille, smoked taillamps, Zircotec-coated tail pipes, special badging, and a choice of yellow, black or red brake calipers. Its interior has likewise been upgraded with red or silver diamond-quilted stitching on the leather seats and Alcantara headliner, and can be ordered in manual or automatic, coupe or Volante convertible, and in one of three colors: Carbon Black II, Quantum Silver or Silver Fox. En este mismo blog, hace un puñado de meses bastante gordo, me quejé amargamente de la llegada de Pastor Maldonado, cheque en mano, a Williams F1, para quedarse con el puesto de un genial Nico Hulkenberg. Pero de la misma manera que en su momento declaré que Maldonado era peor que Hulkenberg en resultados (basta con mirar competiciones previas donde ambos se enfrentaron, y Nico ganó), ahora me toca reconocer que las manos de Maldonado son "buenas manos". Y es que el venezolano, como tantos otros, alcanzó su asiento a base de talonario, pero no es menos cierto que este fin de semana del Gran Premio de España ha demostrado un enorme nivel. Mis quejas de Maldonado iban por otros derroteros, sí. No me parece un piloto tan constante o rápido en toda condición, pero ha aprendido, y ha mejorado. That's what Renault is expecting will happen when it starts selling the Zoe later this year, according to Automotive News and, to make sure vehicles will be available, Renault will have an annual production capacity for the Zoe of as many as 150,000 vehicles. To compare, Nissan will be able to build just 25,000 Leafs at its Sunderland, UK plant when that comes online early next year. Globally, Nissan will be able to make over 200,000 Leafs a year once all its plants go into operation. The Zoe is about eight percent shorter than the Leaf and, more importantly, about half the price thanks to a battery lease program of around $110 a month. Renault debuted the production version of the Zoe at the Geneva Motor Show in March, and spelled out a price of less than $21,000 in France (in U.S. dollars, after government incentives) and about $21,400 in the UK. Those lower price tags should attract plenty of EV customers, even though the Zoe will have a single-charge driving range that's about 30 percent shorter than the Leaf's.
