Pensado como un reclamo "chic", el Adam buscará ser diferente, personalizable y lleno de carácter para tratar de conquistar un segmento cada vez más importante para los fabricantes europeos. De momento la marca del rayo nos ha dejado sólo un par de imágenes del prototipo del coche, lleno hasta arriba de camuflaje, sin dejarnos apreciar nada nuevo respecto a las fotos espía que ya te habíamos mostrado previamente. El nipón Hiroaki Ishiura, profesional del Super GT japonés, y piloto insignia de Toyota para la prueba francesa, no podrá estar en las 24 Horas debido a problemas médicos no aclarados. Ishiura comunicaba esta mañana vía Twitter el problema, y se mostraba apenado, mientras Toyota se enfrenta ahora a buscar un piloto nuevo rápidamente, para montarlo en los test de Motorland Aragon de esta semana, si es posible. Y es que no sería muy inteligente montar a alguien que no ha conducido nunca el coche directamente en Le Mans. Suenan nombres como Frank Montagny. Marc Gené, que sería otro genial candidato, está fichado como reserva en Audi (en un caso como este ya tendría asiento asegurado) así que parece muy complicado verle en el coche nipón. Lo más probable es que si no se apuesta por un piloto con experiencia en Le Mans, se apostará por un piloto japonés. James "Ski" Smith, on the other hand, has made a habit of standing a car on edge for extended periods of time. That's impressive enough by our standards, but Smith recently attempted to take his skills to the next level by piloting a fox body Ford Mustang all the way around Laguna Seca. Why an old Mustang? Probably because no one would shed a tear if the car wound up on its roof. Unfortunately, Smith ran into another piece of trouble before he could tackle the track's more daring corners. The extreme angle caused oiling issues with the V8 engine, flooding one bank with oil while depriving the other. As a result, Smith came to a stop just past Turn Six. Still, he hopes to try again soon. May we suggest he take something a little better suited to the task? A Chevrolet Volt, mayhaps? That's not something battery makers want to hear, but it's music to our ears. It's also the prediction of Munich-based Roland Berger Strategy Consultants Over the next few years, as battery makers like AESC, LG Chem and A123 Systems ramp up for what's expected to be a surge in electric-drive vehicle purchases, we could be awash in li-ion batteries. Global lithium-ion battery sales will total $9 billion by 2015 and will be marked by what the consultants say will be "massive overcapacity." While about four million hybrids, plug-in hybrids and battery-electric vehicles will be produced worldwide that year, battery supply will be about twice as high as demand, potentially driving battery costs down to less than 200 euros ($261 U.S. at current exchange rates) per kilowatt hour. Either way, AESC, LG Chem, Panasonic/Sanyo, A123 Systems and SB LiMotive will control about 70 percent of the global market by 2015, when light-duty vehicles will account for more than 85 percent of the world's lithium-ion battery demand, according to RBSC. Batteries are said to account for 25 percent or more of an electric-vehicle's total costs, making the subjects of lithium-ion battery capacity and costs particularly important to the overall EV market. Last month, Bloomberg New Energy Finance reported that lithium-ion battery-pack costs fell 14 percent during the past year and have declined 30 percent during the past three years because of technical advancements and higher production capacity. Esta cita dedicada a la promoción y el debate de los vehículos eléctricos ha servido a Toyota para presentar la versión a baterías de su SUV compacto, que aunque no estará disponible hasta dentro de unos meses, ya tiene precio: 49.800 dólares (38.150 euros al cambio) por el modelo "totalmente equipado". Sólo se ofrecerá en Estados Unidos. Lo cierto es que aunque Toyota dijo que el RAV4 EV sería un modelo "totalmente nuevo", estética y técnicamente es un calco del prototipo exhibido hace tiempo en el Salón de Los Ángeles. | Posted: 07 May 2012 05:16 PM PDT  Video: Homemade nine-cylinder radial engine is beautiful, short-lived Filed under: Videos Russell Sutton is a man after our own heart. The craftsman has spent the last four years building a nine-cylinder radial engine using a smattering of Honda XR600 singles for his airboat. After a little trial and error, Sutton discovered his creation is happier running off of liquid propane gas instead of gasoline. Years of hard work finally paid off when he recently started his monster creation for the first time. The elegant radial fires with a puff of smoke before before settling into a perfect hum. Unfortunately, the success is quickly marred by the sound of mechanical failure. As it turns out, the cast piston sleeves Sutton used in his creation can't withstand the abuse of the radial. In addition, some of the pistons required shaving in order to work with the different stroke. Unfortunately, the shaving caused the pistons to delaminate their crown, causing further trouble. Despite the issues, Sutton seems to take the failure in stride and plans to correct the issues before firing up the engine one more time. We could all learn a thing or two from his resilience. With fairly new iterations of vehicles like the Toyota Sienna, Honda Odyssey, Dodge Grand Caravan and Chrysler Town & Country, formerly acceptable entries like the Kia Sedona have fallen straight off the map. This isn't news to the Korean automaker, either. Kia spokesman James Hope has confirmed there will be no 2013 Sedona. But that doesn't mean the company will stay away from the segment for too long. Hope made it clear Kia will be back with a new family hauler, though declined to share any details on the vehicle. Odds are that means a new Sedona will come along in 2014 or so, though that's just speculation on our part. While Kia refreshed the minivan in 2011, the changes didn't cover much beyond a mildly reworked front fascia. Sabemos lo que estás pensando, así que vaya lo primero por delante: el vídeo de hoy no fue grabado en Rusia (prejuicioso, que eres un prejuicioso). Lo cierto es que todas partes cuecen habas, y aunque una gran parte de las noticias más rarunas de Autoblog proceden de Europa del Este u Oriente Medio, los animalicos de hoy son irlandeses de pura sangre. Por motivos que se nos escapan, dos tinkers (Wiki) decidieron echar una carrera a caballo en plena carretera y con coches circulando en ambos sentidos, poniendo no ya sus vidas en peligro (tampoco parece que les tengan especial estima), sino también las del resto de los conductores, que difícilmente podían dar crédito a sus ojos. Según la persona que subió el vídeo a LiveLeak, solo uno de los elementos logró ser detenido por la policía. No vamos a decir nada más. The Trans-Pacific Partnership aims to reduce regulatory hurdles among its participants, but Steve Beigun, Ford vice president for international government affairs, claims the Japanese auto market is "the most protected automotive market in the developed world," and that the industry is unnecessarily dependent on exports to survive. Beigun's solution? Force the Japanese auto industry to restructure before allowing Japan in on the TPP. In industry speak, that means closing down factories. That's an odd claim given that Japan can't possibly have a lower tariff on imported cars: zero percent. For comparison's sake, importers looking to bring vehicles into the U.S. face a 2.5 percent tariff. But Beigun says Japan uses non-tariff barriers and currency manipulation to discourage imports. Beigun declined to elaborate on what those "non-tariff barriers" are. William Duncan, the director of the Japanese Automobile Manufacturers Association, has been quoted as saying Beigun's assertions are "rather bizarre." If Japan is guilty of currency manipulation, it's doing a poor job. The yen is currently at a near all-time high against the U.S. dollar, and Japanese manufacturers have steadily worked to move production out of their home country over the past two decades. All told, 70 percent of the machines Japanese automakers sell in the U.S. are built on American soil. So, why is Ford up in arms over Japan?
